Bunch of moody faggots born in high echelon society, squandering their money and doing jackshit but pondering about a completely false, irrelevant and subjective view of the universe, and centuries later high school students have to endure a class where they get taught their meaningless mental gymnastics even though it's all reduced to hot air and banal statements the most cooked up hobo in the street could get on its own. As if it would mean anything, as if philosophy ever did anything but being an abstract ivory tower for prissy intellectuals to sit on, pretending to be better because unlike you they read about some old fart passed his time while his valet brought him breakfast in bed.

Literally just learn them. For the effort expended (a few years at most, and you'll still be able to maintain a social life and read in English), the rewards are immense. You'll get to enjoy a lifetime of reading in them. A hundred years ago every educated man could read them. Not to mention that learning to read other romance languages will be a joke after this.
With the advent of AI it's never been easier to learn languages on your own, at this point your're just lazy and a midwit.
>hurr durr i dont have time
Then stop cooming and watching tiktok and browsing 4chan
>but i will miss out on reading by studying them
No, most of the learning of these languages is reading in them to build up to fluency
>i can just read translations
ok, your loss, lazybones

I just picked French because it's a relatively easy language to learn with a huge corpus to immerse yourself in
It's not just about reading books that haven't been translated yet, they exist and I've read some but they aren't really that important
It's about having an initiation into the tradition which you cannot get if you're merely experiencing the texts through translation
Also as I hadn't read any French books in translation before I picked French besides L'Étranger I don't see the point in listing books
God I love France so much

I'm getting bored of The Expanse. On book 6 now. How do you kill 15 billion people and still make it boring? So many pointless inner monologues about dumb shit. Holden spending pages thinking to himself about how they can't fly everyone on Earth to the colonies all at once. No fucking shit, why do they feel the need to explain the most basic things. It's like the authors knew idiots were going to read it and couldn't trust them with basic science. I don't really know how to explain it but it feels like so much is happening, but at the same time nothing is happening at all. Also how is Avasarala still in power after overseeing the biggest catastrophe on Earth since the dinosaurs went extinct

My lust died the second I wrote the average feminine nature on paper and stratified it according to its moral nature. I am now convinced that the only thing you are supposed to do as a soul, as a man is to wrestle your own flesh into submission, find God and develop a prosperous and altruistic relationship with our creator in order to escape this prison. 99% of women are half humans with no souls, everything they strive for and enjoy is ultimately evil in its nature. The very core of femininity is absolute evil that seeks to devour good men with the same glee and joy youd get from stomping out some dorky kids sand castle.

Once I realized why women are the way they are, it's like I've finally been enlightened as to why hermit monks become hermits in the first place. It's all a lie, its all a joke. This planet is a prison, women are archons who genuinely don't give a fuck about anything but they have to pretend to have interests beyond themselves just so men dont become suspicious and notice the huge disparity in the nature of each gender. It's not a complimentary nature, it's completely one-sided and parasitic. The entire role of women is to entrap a mans life force and pull another soul onto this false reality incarnation trap. Thats all they were designed to do. Satan takes a hold of their hivemind vessels with comedic ease and no resistance. They are all beyond corrupt, they fall apart once a month and endure pain unless they fulfill their ill-natured task. There is nothing in this world worth striving for besides Gods love. There is absolutely NOTHING in this world that is worth your place in heaven.

Presidential candidates have made runs playing “Born in the USA” as a patriotic song. “Hallelujah” is covered like a love song. “Every Breath You Take” is thought to be a love song.

Music is for the retarded and they don’t give a shit about anything but the hook and refrain.

What is the best way to start with the greeks for someone that is not used to read? I might have convinced some friends to read The Iliad because of Nolan's next film, but I fear it will be too dense for them, and it also starts in media res which is a problem. I was thinking about recommending them Iphigenia at Aulis by Euripides since it is a good introduction to the plot and characters of The Iliad. I have thought of other alternatives like searching for a good introductory video on youtube (For example, a video explaining Paris' judgement or a video explaining all you need to know before The Iliad), or just explain it to them, but those options don't fully convince me.
This is a golden chance and I don't want to miss it.
What are your thoughts? Please consider that they are not usual readers.

>The world was simpler in those days, Jaime thought, and men as well as swords were made of finer steel. Or was it only that he had been fifteen? They were all in their graves now, the Sword of the Morning and the Smiling Knight, the White Bull and Prince Lewyn, Ser Oswell Whent with his black humor, earnest Jon Darry, Simon Toyne and his Kingswood Brotherhood, bluff old Sumner Crakehall. And me, that boy I was…when did he die, I wonder? When I donned the white cloak? When I opened Aerys’s throat? That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead.

you think Raynald de Chattallôn had God's fear in his heart when he dipped the Catholic patriarch of Antioch in honey and left him exposed in the sun for insects to nibble on him for refusing to fund his raid against Cyprus?
maybe some rulers actually believed in religion and had it as a priority but i don't believe it was common. after all, the vast majority enabled jews to practice usury in their domains.
say, king Louis VII of France. he was haunted for burning peasants to death. but he was also basically raised to be a monk by monks because he was a second son. although i think we can dig up other examples.
and returning to ASOIAF, some rulers are portrayed as devout and actually believing in their religion; further debunking big retardbro's original claim.

Is mysticism real or just your neurons misfiring and making you hallucinate God?

Your experience is real and your brain isn’t. The first step of mysticism is recognising what is prior to concepts in your experience. The recognition goes by various names depending on the tradition, stream entry, kensho, gnosis, awakening, unknowing and others
