Basically, it's good (maybe very good, or at least your prose is very good) but my first impression is that you let the story go on for too long, and it should end with her on the water, but you should also not let her vocalize those suicidal tendencies. That should be only implied. If you have a website or way to send you more detailed feedback, I'd be willing to do that.

Interested in seeing how posters on this board score in comparison to /x/, where the overwhelming majority seem to be schizoid sadists or complete autists living in internal fantasy lands:

>The CIA uses the PAS for the assessment of characters, its self-assessment online form has 64 outcomes and doesn't sugarcoat anything, if you have bad luck, the test will call you out for being schizophrenic, a recluse, or worse.
https://www.pasf.org/pasq/index.htm
>To get your type among the 64, take the 'primitive' test first and then type your results into the 'basic' test and take that.

The primitive personality type determines your core personality that you developed as a child, while the second test determines whether you outgrew that core personality to adapt well to society, or whether you indulged those core behaviours to become psychologically maladaptive or attain some kind of arrested development.

It really does not pull any punches; while an MBTI test will only tell you positive personality traits and leave you to infer the negative, this one is the opposite. Depending on how you score, it will tell you that you're an exceedingly mediocre well-behaved citizen (one of the best endings) or have the profile of a serial killer, autistic shut-in or concentration camp guard.

Not really, narcissists are more like soulless husks who only care about social status and feel genuinely insecure about their status and place and try to reify this by making everyone else think they're amazing, beautiful fashionable etc. They're as deep as a puddle and want to control any discourse around them and in doing so have to put on airs to be presentable in public, and feel superior to others. If they can't do that they just withdraw from public life and spend all their time seething about people they feel are superior to them but should be inferior

In Wolfe's Urth? Nowhere.
Continental drift happens. Wolfe's future is set billions of years from now, and the continents will be unrecognisable by then.
Some retards conclude TBotNS is set in South America, but fail to notice that the mountains are in the east and the big river runs west.
It's all because Wolfe uses words like "alcalde," "capybara," "llanero" etc. By his own admission in the appendices, these words are meant to be "suggestive rather than definitive."

SF is at its best when it examines humanity as its exposed to new, speculative technology. What changes? What stays the same?

Sometimes that veers into social commentary, but I doubt anyone would have a problem with it unless they're looking for something to get mad about.

There's a time and place for the cool laser swords but it's generally for people who are younger or not really into reading. When people turn their nose up at genre fiction that's what they're probably thinking of
>>
>>24863362
I appreciate Dune's take on water and resources for example because it is timeless, I care not for Stormlight having a character insist "ladies can do XYZ too!!" because it's fairly trite and of the times. So I like timeless forever ponder-able questions and conflicts

There are some ways in which a chinese style society is the ultimate failure state for western civilization. Like they've been living in the "You vill live in a pod, you vill eat ze bugs" meme for a few thousand years now.
>>
>>24862648
I think Kuang might argue that that’s because French/Russian/Japanese/Korean creators care about getting their work translated into English so that they can be consumed by Westerners, but Chinese just don’t care (I’m doubtful about this because everyone loves money). They care about this because muh-Colonialism leaving a chip on their shoulder, hence “English as a language of literary prestige”.

Also that the other necessary parts required for publishing a book in a different language, like adequate translators, publishers willing to bet on non-English works in those languages, already exist for those other languages, but not for Chinese.

There’s also a chicken and egg problem. Works won’t get translated and published without an audience, but an audience cant exist without translated works.

>Not a single mention of Qidian ITT
They mostly read webnovels these days, but they're all shit because they operate on a 'ticket' system where the writers get paid based on how fast they can output chapters rather than the actual quality of the work. Also, they don't actually get paid comfortably because every work over 100 views has 10 different places to read for free via piracy so the situation is pretty grim and draconian for writers. One of the best writers of actual literary merit just died recently at a ridiculously young age due to overwork, which isn't an uncommen occurrence.
The vibe and aesthetic is distinct from japanese or korean literature, there's a sort of passionate barbarism/sociopathy that's really flavorful and keeps me reading. Of course, a sense of 'moe' or asianic cultural behavioral aesthetic is preserved, but it's different in nuanced ways to the point where I wouldn't really call them the same.

>Not her but I'm... intrigued and envious...
Bien-sur we are all most attracted to our worst fears. Oui, there is but a thin line between anxiety and arousal. A thin, delicious smudge of a line. But Canadians, mes freres amerlocs, ils ont too polite to ever truly abuse that aspect of psychology for their sexual pleasure.

Would you like it if I let you watch? Yes, yes, bound and naked in the corner save for a ball and gag. I will let you prep me. Spit in your mouth and tell you to swallow with a hard e-r. And when I have worn her out, exausted her, stabbed and impaled her till she goes limp in my arms, still not satiated, I will bend you over and frig your ass as well. Oui monsieur, I do not discriminate. Perhaps you had your girlfriends in high school, although I have doubts, maybe even a couple boyfriends as well, but you have never been taken by a man before. Don't lie to me, I can sense these things. Could you handle that? If I slapped you, choked you, debased and degraded you? Let me tease our all your worst fears, all your deepest anxieties, and rub your slutty little face in them.

Oui, OUI, lick the dirt from my toes salope, I will show you depravities you can not imagine. I will bring out the whore in you, force you to wallow in it. Like a pig in shit. In 2013 I was a pervert and I am a pervert today. I will buck break you two children. Sad little immigrant spawn, so full of status anxiety and self doubt. Pathetic. Especially you little black boys, so much macho pressure to live up to, don't pretend you've never wondered what it would be like to be folded in half and manhandled like a little girl. Let me show you what it means to have the blood of Gilles de Rais pumping through your veins, engorging and pulsating in your cock, pushing into the tenderness of your loins... Je vais break you down, deconstruct you, bend you to my will and make you feel things that will never allow you to look your parents in the eyes again.

Without ever having met you, I can feel the fear in your soul. Ah, oui, delicious... let me taste it... Oui... you are not immigrants, you are the products of a struggle you never experienced, of expectations you could never live up to. Enough already, submit, your softness was made for a hard man, and I will rule you like a tyrant. Let me bring your worst fears to life, don't resist me, I will break you with my rod of iron. On your knees my little nubian whores, I will show you what it means to be worthy of an empire.

>who cares about the argument if the arguer looks a certain way?
I sense you’re trying to be sarcastic but that’s life bitch. All this bullshit we feed kids about equality and giving people a chance and judging their words and character it all falls short of a misaligned face and some ugly clothes. Look like a bum and nobody takes you seriously.
This isn’t just a cynical opinion, it’s quantifiable in experiment. Give pretty people the same lines and people rate them trustworthy and their statement true. Same thing from an ugly person, inverse result.
>but beauty is subjective
Wrong. Facial symmetry rules are very standardized, as is preferences for lower voices and height.

Even on forums having a little avatar makes people judge you based on it, you will have a social hierachy to fit into and people will look through stats and prior posts to find dirt on you - point being that the only way to come close to just having your ideas matter is a board like this and there being zero continuity in your online presence. No goodboy points. No established names. No updoots.

Greetings, /lit/.

For 2500 years, academics and spiritualists have layered their own feeble interpretations onto this text, obscuring its essence with jargon and dogma. We are going to perform an autopsy.

The Method: One page per thread. We will proceed with the patience of water wearing down stone.

The Goal: To collectively approximate an understanding of the Way, or to determine it is, in fact, brainlet-tier nonsense. Both are valid outcomes.

The Rules:

1. There is no "correct" interpretation. The first line itself declares this. The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
2. We're using the Gia-Fu Feng translation. Arguing over translations is against the Nameless.
3. We read one page per thread. Don't skip ahead.
4. We embrace the contradictions. We are here to feel the text, not just understand it.
