Who is your favourite English Romantic poet? You can learn a lot about someone's personality and intelligence depending on their choice.

The Original 18th century romantics (Gray, Beattie, Thomson, Warton, Chatterton) were far better than the romantics who came after but unforunately because most "fans" of the romantic poets aren't into their poetry at all but prefer gossip and drama about their personal lives they don't get nearly as much attention. You can tell people don't actually read the poets when they spend more time discussing about who byron or shelley fucked or was interested in rather than their actual poetry.

>>24988129I need to know what we're calling it for?
>>24988129All jokes aside I'm surprised how often this happens.I'm really old, so I remember the computer Acorn built for the BBC back in the 1980s. (I'm English if that wasn’t obvious.)One of the key software engineers was this hot chick called Sophie Wilson. She designed her first computer as an undergraduate at Cambridge I believe. (And this was "really designed a computer", not just "bought a motherboard and some memory chips from two different providers and put the memory chips into the slots", like that genius black kid they fawed over a few years ago.)Except that Sophie Wilson used to be Roger Wilson lol.OK, that's just one example. But it keeps happening. Most recently, a character called Justine Tunney is pretty cool. She HATES the obscene bloat of modern software (everyone just bolts things together and imports 10 Mb libraries to use one 2KB routine) so she dedicates herself to writing things as efficiently as possible. The sort of coding where you wake up in the night because you had a revelation how you can shave a subroutine down from 23 bytes to 22.Anyway "she" used to be a guy as well. Normally I go out of my way to call trannies "he" but I did have a little bit to do with JT about ten years ago and I think she is a good person so I call her "she" as a personal courtesy. (FWIW, she's not an annoying militant tranny. She just wants to sit in her bedroom and write super-fast web servers with a 4KB memory footprint.)
>>24988176>Sophie Wilson >hotNigga you need your eyes checked
>>24988176Also why are so many IT software types trannies?
>>24988183I don't think my irony there was really over-subtle. He's not just not hot, he's "uncanny valley" levels of unpleasant.>>24988184Good Q. One obvious thesis: if you're a MtF tranny, you can't have children, but you have the female-brain desire to have children plus the male-brain STEM chops to write computer programs, so you write computer programs as your "children".
ruins edition FAQ:>What is worldbuilding?Worldbuilding is the process of creating entire fictional worlds from scratch, all while considering the logistics of these worlds to make them as believable as possible. Worldbuilding asks questions about the setting of a world, and then answers them, often in great detail. Most people use it as a means of creating a setting or the scenery for a story.>"Isn't there a Worldbuilding general in >>>/tg/ already?"Yes, there is. However, that general is focused on the creation of fictional worlds for the intended purpose of playing TTRPG campaigns. Here you can discuss worldbuilding projects that are not meant to be used for a roleplaying setting, but for novels, videogames, or any other kind of creative project.>"Can I discuss the setting of my campaign here, though?"If you want to, but it would probably be better to discuss it on >>>/tg/ . We don't allow the discussion of TTRPG mechanics, however. If you want to discuss stats or which D&D edition is best, this is not the place.>"Can I talk about an existing fictional setting that is not mine?"Yes, of course you can!>"Does worldbuilding need to be about fantasy and elves?"Worldbuilding, as already stated above, and contrary to what many believe, does not inherently imply blatantly copying Tolkien. In fact, there are many science-fiction setting out there, and even entire alternative history settings which do not possess supernatural elements at all. Any kind of science fiction book has an implied setting at least, which involves a certain degree of worldbuilding put into it.Old thread: >>24868365
>>24987977 "Demon genes give me superpowers" has been a trope since the 1980s. Even Goku had it.
Honestly speaking, have ruins really ever mattered? Have we ever, in the course of human history, gained anything tangible by studying wrecked infrastructure?Writings from older eras are far more valuable. We probably never would have accomplished anything if we couldn't access the wisdom of the ancients.
>>24988013In dragonball the only way that came up was him turning into a giant ape when he saw the moon...so they blew up the moon lol.DBZ kinda had the sayan thing be a thing, but plenty of characters were on the same or greater level and the only reason goku pulled through is because he never stays dead for long, trains harder than anyone else, and never gives up regardless of the odds. That said I have no clue whatever the hell is going on with super or what they redconned since GT. As far as it being a trope since the 80s, maybe but it wasn't common and didn't happen as often as you are saying.
>>24987832The phoenix (bird) is an obvious one. There are lots of birds with colorful, 'fiery' looking plumage and there are birds in some parts of the world like Australia that have learned to start fires to aid in hunting. There are also several Native American myths where ravens were responsible for stealing fire and giving it to humans. Relatedly, mythic Coyote is also credited with stealing fire.
Is anyone else having problems with making your world so different from ours that you can't really get a perspective on it anymore?
Who are your influences? I'll start with mine:- Plato- Nieztsche- Peterson- Jung- Deleuze- Yarvin- Butler- Schopenhauer- Paul Ricouer-Hegel
Schopenhauer influenced me the most.
>>24978571>Peterson>YarvinWow great choice of grifters to have got life directed by.My only influences are Pavlov, Herbert Spencer and Machiavelli. If you need anything else you are either dumb or unemployed or both.
>>24987211yarvin may be a grifting namefag but moldbug is a pretty smart pseudoanon, for the 21st century at least. if only he wasn't as cowardly, he'd probably still say wise things like land. although land left xitter whereas yarvin has recently joined it so perhaps i'm just spewing from my cakehole there.
>>24978571Are there people who seriously attribute Peterson a level of influence equal to that of undeniably important thinkers like Plato, Hegel or Nietzsche? I can’t think of even one novel idea of his that would put him on par with any of those thinkers.
>>24987648>although land left xitterHe didn’t leave, he just got locked out of his Outsideness account. He still posts as @xenocosmography but it’s the same old geriatric boomer takes and Talmudic numbo-jumbo, so not even worth your time.
