>what if... the bad guy, um, like rapes and kills and such?
The Judge is a cartoony villain, something you'd find in an Alan Moore comic like The Killing Joke.
How does anyone take American letters seriously when you realise the entire McCarthy Universe (MCU) was just made to be a backend of Hollywood slop adaptations?

>you prove the original post correct, and you don't get him
The 'villains' have no discernable philosophy to root against or be defeated by the good guy creed represented by the actions of the opposing protagonist, the other characters must cope with an unstoppable force beyond their control or knowing, their mind state is to just survive like a battle between a cobra and mongoose.

>Why are you brining your own moralism to a work of art that doesn't express such sentiments itself?
Because you're meant to, as a basic reasoning human with a mature moral framework. You are supposed to be able to develop your own interpretation of a text, morally and otherwise, without the author spoonfeeding you. Were you feeling lost in 1984 until Winston says "Big Brother is evil, I hate him!"? Must have come as some relief.

If it walks like a duck, and flys like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Even if the author doesn't say it is one, it still fulfills the same narrative purpose. You're so busy trying to read 2 levels deep about how the judge is some otherworldly force that you can't see he's also a basic evil piece of shit. Nor does the one stop the other from being true, the perspective are meant to inform and add new insight to one another.

>>24948991
>Villains have to have defined philosophies
Why? It's a story, with philosophical asides, not a greek dialogue. Stuff just happens. Sometimes the bad guys just get shot. How does that support the "good guy creed" philosophically?

Essays aren’t art if your definition of art excludes the substantive. I’ve read essays more engaging, edifying, and sonically satisfying than much of the tripe that pretends to art.

In a world where 90% of the internet traffic is online video streaming, to detriment of the environment and our minds, why aren't you rejecting modernity and going to the library? The library is literally free and fun for all ages. It is the most environmentally and civic minded thing you can do. Instead of being in a haze of pleasure, living in a digital cocoon of reels and streams, why aren't you forging the future of humanity? The weight of the world is on your shoulders and only you can make a better world.

I'm not poor. Except for the National Library and the University one in my city, most of the small ones around me have
a) things I've already read/don't care about
b) poors
I buy my own books or go to the university/national library

The difficulties with Three Kingdoms and Water Margin for the English-reader are the number of characters and remembering their names and plot lines, as well as the really really fast pace of the plot. Otherwise, Water Margin is very fun and easy to read.

I like to read philosophy although I don't understand like 70% of what is written. Actually I like to read smart people, people with soulfulness, I like to learn the truth about reality even if I can't grasp it with most of the part.
I'm currently reading Spengler's main work and it's good for the part I do understand.

>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

So they adapted a Pynchon novel for film
I've never read Pynchon before but like
"One Battle After Another" - what the FUCK is this turbo jogger leftist power fanstasy bullshit?
I always realized Hollywood is a bunch left-leaning cucks but holy fuck they outdid themselves with this one.
The level of blatant propaganda is on par with fucking commie films of Stalin's era or something.
This guy made "There will be blood" and now this what the fuck. This movie doesn't even feel real, it's a caricature of a movie.

Tell me bros is Pynchon cringe plebbitor shit like that and not based? Le speaking truth to power

Paul Thomas Anderson has ousted himself as an intellectual lightweight.
Upon further reflection:
>The Master wasn't that good
>There will be Blood was anti-capitalist drivel
>Magnolia kind of holds up

He's a good VISUAL director, in that he makes films that look well made and gets actors to perform well, but the CONTENT of his films is just straight up garbage.

I doubt I'll watch any of his films ever again.

Back to Pynchon
>Vineland had very little to do with the plot of this film.
>Vineland is a relatively boring novel, so adopting it to screen would've been a fool's errand
