I do think focusing on Feyd and his role as a mirror of Paul would be interesting. With a tv series i guess you could theoretically do this with a ton of other side characters and subplotlines(Hawat's service under the Harkonnens would be fun).
>The book is economical about these matters
I've always found the it to be economical on most of it's characters, which would make it hard to discern at what point fleshing them out further would dilute any interesting mystery and vagueness of the book. Count Fenring is a great character idea, a failed KH who spares Paul out of sympathy. There's tons of interesting stuff which could be drawn from that but it would essentially require inventing stuff

>Hawat and Feyd's puppet, who later sends a boody-trapped catamite to the Baron's quarters.
I might be remembering it wrong, but Hawat warns the Baron of this attempt right?
>>
>>24695598
He does
>The Baron shook his head, thinking: It would’ve worked, too, if Hawat hadn’t warned me. Well, let the lad believe I saw the plot on my own. In a way, I did. I was the one who saved Hawat from the wreckage of Arrakis. And this lad needs greater respect for my prowess.

What im trying to get at is in the book gom jabbar scene there is a continuity error where Mohiam is described as looking down on Paul despite him standing, that's one awfully tall chair. Check yourself if you don't believe me

My looks are volatile. Posture issues, mostly. When I'm looking good the world treats me well and I'm gentle as a prince. When I'm looking like shit the world treats me as a leper (women) and a target (other men) and my heart is quick to fill up with hate and I start acting like a petty resentful grouch.

Idk. For things like the Greeks, especially presocratics it's better to have some basis Ancient Greek and choose an annotated version of the fragments you want to study.

Chronological order don't mean shit, you are not an historian. Start with Plato right away because that's where occidental people more or less start with the greeks. And by books about Euclides and the Pythagoreans. Having a lot of fragment will not take you very far.

Maybe read about their mythology too.

Excellent set of volumes. Contains the testimonia and fragments in Greek and Latin (as applicable) with decent translations of them all. In some cases, you even get some access to fragments discovered subsequent to Diels and Kranz.

On the other hand, it's not really a replacement for Diels and Kranz, since many of the smaller figures lack any presence, as well as a few significant Pythagoreans.
>>
Start with the Torah. Learned Greeks like Origen admitted that all the wisdom of the Egyptians and Greeks, from Euclid to Plato, was a pale imitation of Moses and Solomon. After the Torah read the Wisdom and Proverbs of Solomon. Then the wisdom of Sirach is excellent, and Ecclesiastes.
>>
>>24695546
Ok, Im really liking the fragments and testimonies.
>On the other hand, it's not really a replacement for Diels and Kranz, since many of the smaller figures lack any presence, as well as a few significant Pythagoreans
Oh I dont wanna go too deep. These smaller figures can left out and I will read about the pythagoreans separately

He writes at a ridiculous pace, is incredibly autistic about worldbuilding, and is able to play nice enough to allow his stories to be adapted to tabletop while also being strict enough to not let them get hollyjewed into a television show he wouldn’t like. He gets major points from me for streaming his reactions to the wheel of time show and it’s just nonstop disgust and revulsion at what they butchered.
You may not like his writing, but the man fills his niche in the bibliosphere well and does so with joy

A little i guess
Shit's going down in the last books so there's not much time to it.

But he does randomly drop things like "btw this minor character is gay"

Also this may or may not be related to wokeness but his way of doing relationships is painfully vanilla and equal, unlike Jordan who often writes relationships like a crazy assymetrical power struggle.

>>
the only real response to someone using big words is to ask “why didn’t you just say…..”

any other response is just conceding that you got filtered
>>
>>24691596
Pretty much this. If you can't communicate a complex idea in simple words/sentences, you can't really communicate.
>>
>>24693369
The point isn't that "big words bad" - it's that big words should be used only when necessary, when there is no way of saying a thing with simpler/smaller words.

Think of the word "schadenfreude" - sure, you can say "taking joy in other's suffering", and it works, but "schadenfreude" is a shortcut to that idea; once you explain the idea in simple terms, you can use the big word again.

Small words are preferable most of the time. If a bigger word gets an idea across better, use the bigger word. But at least try to see if you can use smaller words first without it sounding clumsy or stupid.

>"Read Nietzsche’s Zarathustra, and his sister’s note about how he wrote it, and am absolutely convinced that he was completely mad when he wrote it, and mad not in a metaphorical sense, but in the straightforward and most exact sense: incoherence, jumping from one idea to another, comparisons with no indication of what is being compared, beginnings of ideas with no endings, leaping from one idea to another for contrast or consonance, and all against the background of the pointe of his madness, his idée fixe, that by denying all the higher principles of human life and thought, he is proving his own superhuman genius. What will society be like if such a madman, and an evil madman, is acknowledged as a teacher?”

He's right you know...

I don't recall anything but it has been years since I read it. It is certainly possible but highly improbable there is some hidden Christian meaning if that is what that person was suggesting. Pynchon is very consistent with how he uses belief systems, does not matter if it is religion, science, conspiracy or what ever, they are all the same in that they will offer some truths but can not provide all the answers and will likely get you in trouble if you blindly follow them accepting any answer they provide even for situations they are completely incapable of dealing with.
>>
forgettable
>>
Skimmed it. Intend to read it. Appreciate the video game and anime references. Pynchon is like Harmony Korine. He knows where it's at. The sweet spot of the unfolding zeitgeist. Knows not to sneer at the lowbrow, at the large vistas of plastic consumer fare. Updike could not have written it, perhaps not even DeLillo.
>>
It's excellent. You read it as the second half of a duo with Inherent Vice, and it stands with any of his other books.
