=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For the unclear, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

==MELEE GROUPBUILD==

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, rocket launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale, any brand, and any type of kit is fair game here. That means anything from Gundams to girlpla to miniatures are all free to use.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

the more i look at the kampfer the more sad i feel that it only appeared in that one episode and in some random F90 manga later on as an upgraded version

it's literally perfect
i usually don't like the bell bottom legs on things like doms but the kampfer has this perfect beetle-like body shape that makes the flared legs blend into everything else, and all the big ol thrusters

On this railing not really, it's a wide surface and I take photos on action bases anyway.
When I was living in Japan I had a really terrible balcony railing but I still did it mostly without incident. The one time I did drop something was with pic related

>gust of wind
>oh shit oh fuck

With an airbrush and paint. I painted on the balcony because I was worried about fumes right next to my bed.
>Also, you did handpaint the glowing part, right?
Airbrushed. Masking between the ridges of the XC (I did gold>fluo orange) was a massive slog and I probably should have painted the orange, then masked the lines and repainted the gold.

they do the job well enough. All the hate they get from anon fags here claiming they'll explode your shit up or just not vent fumes are straight up liars. It's not the best, as they're decently loud, aren't made with quality, etc.. etc.. but they're affordable enough. I'll one day upgrade to a big fucking spray booth made with metal that takes up an entire corner of my room like the one I saw in some korean youtube video but for now, this shit will do.
>>
>>23037146
I doubt these things vent all the fumes. You can do the math but just eyeballing the cfm and static pressure of the shitty pc fans, the cross sectional area of the booth, and the hose, it’s not pulling enough air.
>>
>>23037141
I've got the white/blue one because it comes with most of the runners twice, just because it's a bunch of spare parts I can use for kitbashing.

I have one and it barely does anything, but I don't have many alternatives because nobody sells quality pre built spray booths in Europe and it's harder to get the parts for a DIY one - home HVAC is uncommon so there are significantly fewer places selling fans or filters, and the fiberglass filters we use are much harder to mount into a booth than the US style furnace filters and would require building a custom frame to hold them in place

So any ideas on how to make a decent visor?
I've started work on my first custom project, a Feddie-conversion Gelgoog inspired by the ones from Thunderbolt. My thinking is that this would be a proposal to recondition captured stocks and be able to convert captured production lines, rather than just a paintjob on a finished unit akin to the ones you see in 0083. AE trying to GM-ise them, basically.
For the arms my current plan is GM Custom shoulders bulked up a bit and maybe Ground Gundam parts for the arms themselves, fucked if I know what I'm doing below the waist right now, that's going to need a more intensive rejig.
Point is I still don't have a good idea of how to give it a transparent visor piece. I'm using a Char Gelgoog as my base suit and I've already cut away most of the 'squint' that the OYW HG mold has, but that still leaves me needing to fill it.
My first thought is a little strip of plastic from a soft drink bottle, hit it with a transparent green or blue from the inside. Then I'd just need to put some kind of greeble behind it and hit it with a metallic.

Be very conservative with it. The rubber will basically just soak it up, and I don't think there's a great way to clean it out once it happens.

just get a real airbrush and compressor, you'll outgrow the chinkshit battery powered thing very quickly assuming the brush doesn't break first. even if the brush doesn't break you'll have nothing but problems with it
>>
>>23038598
>waterbased acrylics
yeah, vallejo
i think this might be my fault for not checking what each color is
more specifically, i foolishly assumed that their air or mecha color lines were specifically the airbrush lines, but like half the regular mini color line is also airbrush shit
>>
>>23038606
in my experience vallejo is terrible for gunpla. they're comparable to dollar store acrylics for airbrushing. I had given up on them entirely and now use exclusively mr.color. If you'd rather avoid lacquers, try tamiya or mr.hobby aqueous acrylics, heard AK are pretty good too.
>>
>>23038613
the ones that i've used that have what feels like a "normal" acrylic consistency have been very nice, actually, at least for brushing, and i want to mainly focus on that with airbrushing only for base coats and the like
>>
>>23038613
>>23038625
i haven't tried them but mr hobby also do a pure waterbased line called acrysion, i've heard they're very good for waterbased paints
>>
>>23038613
I have very good experience with vallejo but I brush paint.
>>
>>23038653
>>23038613
if someone had a bad experience airbrushing vallejo he used the model paint line and didn't thin them enough

which is double retarded because vallejo has an entire line of paints specifically for airbrushing, and another line that is even more specifically for airbrushing mecha models (vallejo air and vallejo mecha color respectively)
>>
>>23038654
I've used their air and mecha colors, had a good consistency and didn't have much trouble spraying them on. but the main reason i stopped using them is that they're very weak after drying (which also takes unecessarily long) and have poor quality finish
>>
Hey, I could use some advice: I'm not a big Gunpla guy (I like them but I live in a small apartment without a lot of space to display them) but I want to have like 2-3 models of my favorite mechs from the franchise. Since I'm sticking to such a small number I want only their best versions and I'm lost with how many there are. I'd like to start with the Wing Zero Custom/EW, then get a Kampfer, a GM (preferably some later armed up variant, but not Sniper) and finally an Unicorn (but in it's base form, not the destroy mode, if one exists).

Any tips appreciated, thanks.
>>
>>23038665
not sure about wing, but kampfer has only two older HG and MG kits. both of them aren't bad.
GM has many kits including several modern ones. just pick the one you like the most, more often than not you'll end up with a good kit.
To my knowledge RG unicorn is the latest unicorn kit and also the best. it can be tranformed between modes.

JMS G-Line bootleg is SEX
More hands, extra shield and parts separated crotch marking. Unironically better than the Bandai kit, let alone the shitty other bootleg.
>>
>>23038862
Let me ask you a question. Why do people sharpen Steel Haze's head? If it looks good, no one would have done that.

There are alot of GM Spartan bootlegs. The JMS ver is probably the best one. Its only weakness is probably the forehead sensor being abit loose, but the rest feels like Bandai's level of fitment. JMS is legit and you should try some of their bootlegs.

The point of modelkits is that they look good even as runners, unlike figure and toys which their appearance is subjected to change depends on the target audience. I know the mecha stuff is just so muddled in artistic intepretation, but modelkits in general are not allowed to have extremely altered appearance. You cannot never bother to look what's happening outside of their echo chamber yet they act like their own baby toy brand is the ultimate standard.

There are some oc "Titanomachia" kits from moderoid but I dunno if that counts. The designs were made just for the models but afaik NAOKI isn't a goodsmile employee.

For chinese brands with multiple OC mecha kits:
Motor Nuclear, SNAA, Hemoxian, Orange Cat Industries, Cang-toys, Canned Squad Unit (they're SD sized)
>that one with Knights in the name
Knights and Magic isn't an OC line, it's a jap light novel isekai series that got a (bad 3DCG) anime. There's already a few moderoid kits and Hemoxian is doing another one of Ikaruga (pic related).

Wing Zero Custom: The most recent one is the MG Ver. Ka from 2020. If you're strapped for space, a RG from 2014 exists. The PG is very dated, afraid I don't know much about it.

Kampfer: Your options are terrible unfortunately, either the MG from 2001 (it has screws in the shoulders I think) or the HGUC from 2008. The HGUC is probably the better bet for you.

GM: There's a very good MG from 2009 that's you can build to look like the original anime or MS Igloo. The original HGUC is from 2001 and very old and dated (and thus has terrible limb motion), but it is stupidly cheap at ten bucks apiece so it's easy to build an army. As for variants, you have a shitload of options from Thunderbolt versions to Origin versions. You'll have to do your own research unfortunately.

Unicorn: The best MG is the 2010 OVA version (it's molded more accurately to the anime and never had to have the shitty knees replaced), while the RG from 2017 is well spoken of. The PG is kind of a brick in that you won't be able to pose the arms well due to how heavy they are. If you only care about Unicorn Mode and want to save some money, the HGUC from 2009 doesn't transform.

Honestly I have no idea why Bandai's dragged its feet on that shit, I know it's not the old days when you were drowning in 1/100 NGs before the show even ended but HG Aerial and Calibarn are still quick sellers whenever they come back in, at least around here.
I maintain that they weren't really equipped for WfM, Seed Freedom, that Netflix show and now the new AU thing all back to back and it hurt their output for all of them.

>>
>>23039422
crazy how that's not even a shitpost
>>
>>23039408
>but HG Aerial and Calibarn are still quick sellers whenever they come back in, at least around here
HG kits are low risk sells if the product lacks staying power. In the case of WfM, a good chunk of the LGBTQ/DEI community that got in on Gundam with this one entry aren't going to continue watching, even with a female protagonist in GQuuuuuux. But they'll buy Aerial and Calibarn kits, where HG makes it a relatively low-cost purchase. $25 bucks apiece is a significantly lower ask than $50 for a Full Mechanics Aerial. None of them are going to buy a Darrilbalde or Dilanza or Zowort or Michalis, even a HG, so there's no point in making a Full Mechanics of them.
>>
>>23039424
you either get accurate hand sculpts that can't hold anything and are only usable with the kit they come with or general square hands that look passably good while holding on tight to most weapons even from other kits

yeah but it's a phonetic spelling and what they're spelling is the american mispronunciation
>>

If I may ask, what is the spanish pronounciation?
>>
>>23039835
ll is a "y" sound, as in tortilla. Most people say vallejo with the english L instead.

>>23039839
People from there pronounce is va-lay-o. It's spelled funny. If you pronounce it that way everyone is gonna think you're weird.

Now I have the urge to build some gunpla.
And to plough Aila's pussy.

You'll never get the 1.0 anyways, only the 1.5. The 1.0 is unobtainium at this point.

>>23039850
It's just a funny quirk of latin american spanish. It's like how the armarillo in texas is pronounced funny.
>>
>>23039853
Well you're in luck anon, our general in its earliest form was created because of Build Fighters specifically. Before that there were scattered gunpla threads, but nothing centralized and regular. Build Fighters is what started this all.

Bandai hand is exceptionally trash at holding weapons in general, especially melee weapons. 2 pieces of plastic pushes together vertically through fitment, yet they must hold heavy shits that will absolutely put a toll on them horizonally and push the hand pieces apart. And the worse issue is, you can't even glue the hand parts together because alot of instances, the weapons require dissasembly to put in or the kit having 3 or more accessories. These hands are both dogshit visually and dogshit functionally.

Finally built my Aerial after having it sit for a few months half put together. It's my second gunpla I've built. I've got a Messer Type-F01 for xmas that I'm gonna do next.

I was curious on HG Zaku recommendations for a more modern kit. I just have a feeling that an older kit would probably have problems that newer ones don't have.
>>
>>23040033
The current hguc zaku ii is a great kit. It's probably the only one you'll find unless you seek out a different one.

Not going to lie. I was expecting a cheap stand, but this thing is actually solid. It's one of the stands with locking joints.

we could have had FSSkino in ZZ but bandai wanted marketable toys.

I'm hyped for the RG Shining Gundam.

Gundam always have been children friendly with minimal ecchi and alot of non edgy mech designs. Even the story content feels very half baked and pretentious.

>>

Pretty sure it will have retail version because Chirico's mechs are retail so far, meanwhile other characters are locked behind pbandai conversion kit. Unless Bandai consider space scopedog as exclusively Fyanna's mech.

Is it possible to hand paint gundam without looking horrible?
I have painted 40k, infinity and pathfinder minis before, the fact that they're so tiny makes it so thinned coats leave no visible texture...but when I paint vehicles it's a mess, you can obviously see the strokes no matter how much I thin the coats. I don't own an airbrush nor I will in the foreseable future not due budget but space, I don't have a place to use one in my flat

Is it possible to use Koto hands for MGs?
>>
>>23040312
Most MGs use ball joint for hands don't they ? You'd need to do something about that. I'd make a ball of ca glue on the koto hand joint
>>
>>23040289
I paid 43€ for moondam long rifle, I don't think you can beat my stupidity so go for it
>>
>>23040312
you'd have to do some modifications because Bandai uses ball joints for the wrists

>>23040339
Some MGs use peg but i know what you mean. MG can benefit alot from these aggressive looking hands.

SPN-120's greatest advantage is that it never leaves a stress mark on the cut area, making it very easy to clean afterwards. it's a huge time saver, especially for builders with limited time or builds many kits at a time.
