What chord are you playing tonight?
>>122913555no, blues is just the missing something feeling, having something and losing it, its the feeling blue, sad about something, that's the emotion, basically just your soul crying for something that's lacking that could be gained to improve it, usually sex, materials or morals, but usually the lyrics take a satirical turn and make fun of the feeling anyhow as a passing thing.

I've been playing for like 8 years on and off and have picked up on so many bad habits that I'd rather start from 0. All in my picking hand. 8 years later and strumming 4 chord pop songs proves a challenge sometimes
>>122916373buy more expensive gear, that is sure to fix it.
>have money to buy whatever used guitar I want >can’t find any I like Why do people have such shit taste in guitars? Primarily looking for Les Paul’s and PRS core. They’re all red, natural, some flamboyant color or slash editions. I just want a black white or gray PRS core or a burst, white or ebony Les Paul. Why can’t I find anything classy.
>>122916234Yes, it's the best guitar ever made. I have a Gibson and Epiphone SG. Might put a single coil pickup on the neck spot of the Epiphone one of these days.
bros, i have an art project for uni (it's a subject that all undergrads have to take), and I'm planning on making a song with a Smashing Pumpkins inspired guitar tone.so far, this is what I got in Bandlab (I'm not planning on making anything too ambitious)what do I do to make it not shit?https://voca.ro/1iIjf3P8LgjW
>>122917194SG’s suck>ugly as fuck>played by devil worshippers>neck dive>doesn’t resonate like a Les Paul>ugly colors >les Paul rejected it >all the cons and tuning instability of a Les Paul without the pros There’s a reason very few people play them
>>122917211What is the horrendous static noise. Do you have your levels too high or is it just shitty modeling? Otherwise the tone isn’t terrible.
>>122917100Is it any particular PRS model? I feel like you see a shit ton of charcoal burst tremontis with both the stoptail and trem
>>122917334Yeah I don’t want a tremonti even though I like him. It has different pickups and the weird one covered one open thing. I’m looking at custom 24 cores in excellent condition. Preferably with the old hfs / vintage bass pickups or the newer 85/15 tci / 58/15 LT tci. There’s a lot of guitars on reverb, but they’re all price gouging because reverb and most are not in great condition. Ideally I’d like to pick one up locally for 2500 ish. I’d pay up to 3000 for very excellent condition. LP I don’t want to pay more than 1800 for a standard. This is what I hate about reverb it essentially price fixes the used market and thousands of guitars sit on there for a year or more.
My poly finished guitar is full of super fine cracking along the guitar. What's up with that? I thought only nitro cracked.
>>122917406Maybe it was refinished with nitro
Stop making silly faces!
>>122917320im guessing the guitar pickups since the hiss is also there when I use an actual ampesp since my current guitar is an asian knock-off of a strat
>>122917479Yeah that’ll do it. At least get a Mexican Strat. I see them all the time for like 300 bones. But your levels might also be high, it shouldn’t sound clippy like that
>>122917479Oh nvm you’re in europestan fenders are outrageous there. I just picked up a custom shop telecaster for 700
>>122917404if you can stand it, try to find custom 22s and lowball people. Speaking from experience, PRS cores don't move fast at all unless they're really particularly specialI wouldn't pay more than $1500 for an LP standard as well, even beyond the fact that I don't like them and the end user customer experience. They're too luck of the draw whether you get one that's good and the step up into a guaranteed good one is pushing $4k with an R9I know the Heritage headstock is butt ugly but I'd seriously consider one of those too as it's some of the closest I've seen get in feel to the original bursts I've worked on
>>122917522Yeah and buying an an LP privately you don’t get enough time with the guitar to really put it through its paces. Honestly my shoulder is giving me issues which is the main reason I don’t have an LP yet. I wish they’d make the standard in 50s spec but with the weight relieved body. Custom 22 might be an option.
>>122917522Local guy wants 5k for an r9 that has checking on the headstock like lol
>>122917605I know the looks are really subjective on it but have you tried explorers? imo they sit in the crossroads of still being familiar to LP players while being a lot easier on the shoulder>>122917645the guys who own these are the same people who think their C5 zo6 is worth $30kThat generation will hit croaking point soon and you'll be able to scalp those R9s at estate sales for pennies on the dollar
>>122913900Yeah basically don't think about Gibson too much and you're good.
>>122917508hmm i'll see what i can do about the levels, bc from the speakers of the laptop itself, it sounded kinda nice to me. but listening now on my headphones, it's hard to ignore that static
>>122917657Reverb hasn’t helped any with people all pricing guitars way above market value and flooding the market with shit nobody wants to buy. I refuse to pay more than half of retail price for a used instrument unless it’s something extraordinarily valuable. I would pay 3000 for an r9. It used to be that you purchased second hand to get a good value while taking someone else’s unwanted shit from them. It’s not worth the gamble when you’re only saving 25%.
>>122917515I'm planning to save up for a humbucker model actually. I won't get it in time for the deadline, so it's more of a personal thing
>>122917744the only way to right this wrong is to simply outjew them
>>122917422It's a 2022 SquierI'm the original ownerIt wasn't refinished
>>122912807Thank you for the kind words. ------Instruments used on the recording (in order of recording): Cordoba ukulele, vocals, and tambourine (on the floor tapping with my foot while playing and singing). I than overdubbed my CC Clarke electric guitar. For the bass I engaged the pitch shift function on my Zoom G2 and set it an octave down. I than played the bass part on the CC Clarke, and eq'd the signal to sound more bass like. I than recorded a live drum performance with the drum pads of my Alesis Sr-16. I panned the vocals, ukulele, and tambourine track hard right, and panned the electric guitar the same. I put the drums and bass hard left. I added reverb and various effects before panning everything slightly more into the middle, just until I could hear the signal in the opposite earphone. The foot tapped tambourine panned opposite the drums provides an illusion of width on the drums that doesn't actually exist. Allowing it to not sound lopsided, but also providing separation through the physical speakers of instruments that could interfere with each others frequencies.
>>122917744The reason is simply nowadays see guitars as commodities instead of tools. Willingly investing money in something currently mass produced is both unwise and financially unsustainable. There will always be value in vintage gear or gear no longer being produced, but dudes wanting retail or higher for "used-mint" production guitars on Reverb is freaking retarded. The gear flippers and price gougers have destroyed the used market. You also have the shills like the JHS guy who, by simply stating that he likes a pedal, causes people to lose their shit and ask an exponentially higher price for said pedal.
>>122917430this is what I assume everyone in Hong Kong looks like
>>122916234SGs have neck dive, the bodies are so small and the necks are so obese that the neck wants to hang lower than the body of the guitar so you have to hold it up so it doesn't flop on the floor and explode because gibson make the necks like retards
>>122917430bless this guy, i hate seeing people who have no control over looking fucked up its not fair. he actually looks like that guitar he is holding
>>122918222Literally have no idea what you mean. Neck dive is not a problem. You must have really narrow shoulders.
>>122913900As someone who sold three Les Pauls, they are garbo. Too heavy, too muddy, too prices. I keep my Flying V because its time futurism, but Les Pauls are the most boring hype thign ever. Im back to Teles.
>>122918250>You must have really narrow shoulders.normal size shoulders, not kfc-fuelled bingo wings sticking out 2 feet either side like you
If I press down harder on the fret the note gets higher. Is my action too high, or do I need to adjust the truss rod?
>>122914923He had a gold top for ages, no?
>>122918297Get a belt strap like Mr. Albini than, if you have the build of a light pole. It's interesting when people claim something has a flaw, when it's actually their skeletal structure that is causing the issue. You hate to see it.
>>122918302Do you knwo basic physics? The string gets bend whn you press down to hard, light touch is the way to play. You are a complete beginner it seems.
>>122918196the sad reality is that to like 95+% of the market they're luxury goods rather than a tool to be used and that opens up people to treat them like watches, vintage cars, etc All those very dear vintage guitars were production line guitars once and the price jump between decades over time just keeps getting wider and wider, norlin era 80's les pauls known to be junk for decades are now pushing past retail valueI don't think this will be sustainable with consumer tastes in the long term but it's the way it is right now
>>122918355I've never noticed this in 20 years of off and on playing. I just assumed, if it's set up properly, there wouldn't be enough slack for additional bending of the string.
>>122917820your tonehand needs pressure adjustment, action doesn't affect this directly, but if it's too high you may subconsciously press harder to compensate
>>122910056Suhr are extremely overrated.
>>122918342>a belt strap like Mr. Albini thanAlbini didn't get bullied enough for this
I notice the tone from my middle finger and ring finger is much better than from my index finger or pinky? Is there anything I can do to work on this? Or anything I can buy? Is there anything on the market to improve finger tone? The pros say 90% to the tone comes from the fingers, I will pay for better finger tone. I need richer mids from my index and more powerfal bass from my pinky.

>>122918801I've worked on a few gems from this era (a few explorers, The Pauls, SG Firebrands and maybe like one good LP Custom) but most of them are fucking garbage, overweight and over valued, much like the people who tend to own them.
>>122918342do they make belt straps in your size, tubby?
>>122919101thanks for the reply. i went with the cordoba over the tim henson ibanez, but if i like the crossover appeal enough i might upgrade to the godin.what kinds of songs did you play?
>16th year of playing guitar>still don't know theory>still don't read sheet music>still can't improvise anything other than major/minor pentatonic boomer bending>still don't know where all the notes of the fretboard are unless I figure each one out for like 20 seconds>own 8 cheap guitars all covered in dust, cum, and dirt>play 5 mins a day but watch youtube guitar videos for 5 hours+Is Es Over Für Mich?
>>122919770just play morei've seen 86 year old women learn to play pretty fucking good in 6 months from just actually being passionate about it and having the spare time
>>122918579he’s really enjoying that roast beef and cheese I see
Hi guys, can anyone please play this little impro? Like, the part that lasts to 1:06? plshttps://voca.ro/18irBH7zVsNM
I got my blood test back and it says I'm 100 percent that bitch
>>122919911what?
>>122919923I doubt it, cowboy. At least now the Chinese have your genetic info, bub.
>>122919770You will not likely get anywhere if you don't learn basic theory.Get a good music theory book (Open Music Theory is free)Learn counterpoint, basic harmony and get familiarised with notation and compose using it.Then learn how to write good melodies and you should be able to progress by yourself. It will take you like 6 months to get good at the basics. So no, it's not over for you, also Michael Gira was relatively old when he started with Swans.
getting pretty used to playing 11s on my tele. think i might need to move up to 12s.
I win (a/gg/ain)
playing a guitar through a bass amp is fine right?and it's also fine if i have an fx chain in the middle so i can get distortion and stuff?t. bassist buying a cheap guitar
everything's fine
>>122920116Yes it's fine. It can be cool.
>>122920116it’s going to be quite muddy unless you have a tiny speaker. still, the speaker and cabinet will be designed around optimizing the bass frequency ranges. bass amps sound great with a piano but kind of meh on guitar chords. Individual notes aren’t too bad>t. played all 3 through my rumble 100
>>122920217makes sensewould i be able to EQ my way around the muddiness for quiet practice at home?
who the fuck practices?
>>122918939imagine eating the back sweat pizza
To the bassists in the thread, how long did it take you from picking up the bass to becoming an ok player? I've been thinking of trading my saxophone for a bass guitar, i don't like playing it anymore. I'll probably not be able to practice more than an hour a day.
>>122920530I was in the same position as you but i refuse to sell my tenor, i still play it here and there. Anyway about 6months or so to get decent enough to play in a band and not get laughed at about a year until i felt confident in my ability im 2 years in and ive transcribe way more songs on bass than i ever dreamt of on sax
>>122920718Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i completely lost interest in the sax, haven't taken it out he case in a week now, and before that a few times i would take it off the case, put the mouthpiece on, put the reed on, strap it to my neck and then just sit there for a a couple of minutes not playing and putting it back in the case again lol.
>>1229205302-4 months to play along with a band competently. 1+ year to write full basslines. 3+ years to improvise and it not sound like ass.
>>122920851if you get into bass you’ll probably start with rock and blues. If you already have basic music theory under your belt it’s only a month or two to get decent technique under your fingers. playing 16th notes in metal for full song duration may take you up to a year of practice. you’ll probably start off with blues or rock and eventually take an interest in jazz unless you already have favorite genres. jazz is considered the pinnacle of bass playing; I think maybe it was Ray Brown that said it is easier to solo than it is to write a good bassline. I think a lot of modern bassists are very derivative; I would recommend checking out Ray Brown, James Jamerson, Victor Wooten (also listen to his teachings), and Les Claypool just because they are all very unique and considered masters of their instrument. I personally think Jamerson is the best electric bass player that ever lived, but he died relatively young at his height of experimentation
Who is the most buoyant player in the thread and why is it the mountain?
>>122911960>>122911998Prime Yngwie preferred 50w
>>122920978cuz hes fat bro
what's /gg/s great white buffalo?
>>122920981how can less be more?
>>122913960Those picks are very durable. I don't use them often because I like to experiment with gimmick picks like the Big Stubby et al. but the Ultex is definitely a very good "normal" pick
>>122920978Because his music theory knowledge allows him to create worlds and floating images. >>122920983He didn't mean it like that.
>>122921275>He didn't mean it like thatdont put words in my mouth, buddy. i mean exactly that.
>>122921275>>122921319you heard the man. big boy floats
Im looking at a poplar body tele thinline with a maple neck and humbuckers. The guitar sounds great unplugged and live but I keep hearing people say alder is a better tonewood or someshit. Should I pass?
>>122921459>Should I pass?No
>>122921542Okay Gandalf, thanks
>>122921459poplar is cheap wood that usually gets turned into pallets. If it sounds good who cares; as long as the neck is stable and isn’t going to warp in a few years
Found old pics of the Dean guitar i traded and instantly regretted trading
>>122921783>Deansmall penis guitar
>>122919390plz dont go anon
>>122921831it was pretty good for the price i got it, i just made the mistake of conflating the 2nd hand price i got for a decent guitar with the new price of the guitar i was offered to trade and basically were a retard
>>122920756I used to love my tenor even got really into mouthpieces, I have an old not vintage link a couple vandoren pieces and boxes of reeds. But yee i just couldnt get my head around transcribing but im still holding out hope ill get back in. Man i even got 3 and a half octave range was on the brink of double altissimo. Its been 2yrs since ive played daily i touched it the other day after months of not playing. One day anon one day ill fall back in love with my tenor. Have fun with bass if you decide to get one i suggest a used squire P or J but honestly any used beginner bass from the big brands is more than enough to get started with
>>122922108
>>122921459I say go for it.If you can try both or hear them before buying wouldn't hurt but if it sounds good then you're golden.
what gauge strings are you using? some pussy shit like 10s or 9s?
>>122922273I’m using 45-105s
>>122922314on a bass guitar? doesn't count.
>>122922335I bend and play chords too, so it does
>>122922273whatever is on saleive tried 8-12s no difference really except I have to resetup if I jump more than 1 gauge.9's are most common and its what i'm using now. I put 13s on my acoustic.
>>122922463>no differenceamplet confirmed. get a real amp and a real guitar and you will hear the difference i suppose?

I like shorter scale guitars, they're so much easier for me to play. Taylor GS Mini is my favorite. I'm looking for an electric though and don't know much about them.Any recommendations for electrics of similar scale?

I come in here dunk on whoevers minging and then the whole board comes to a halt for hours till the next mark comes. Its so easy at this point its like breathing. Never change and see ya tomorrow.
>>122919892not anymore he ain't >:^)
>>122922641for the price of a record collection you could buy your own recording studio and create your own record collection which will be healthier and you will enjoy much more.
Genuinely thinking of selling all my strats and going all in on teles>love the strat bridge sound>love the strat middle position sound>hate strat bridge and position 2 and 4 sounds>love every tele pickup sound I can’t quite get the strat bridge sound though my tele but I can get pretty dang close and then I can get just about every other sound I want from the tele. Is there anything it can’t do??
>>122922911>love the strat bridge soundI mean love the strat neck sound, I hate the bridge sound
>>122922911>is there anything it can't doimpress people on the internet but neither can a stratgo for it
>>122911842That bundle of wires where you strum seems like a bad idea
>>122922936I don’t care about that I’m not some homo like troglyUnrelated but I’m a carpenter and work in peoples homes and today was my first day working on remodeling at this lady’s kitchen and this chick had a thin waist and some of the biggest boobs I’ve ever seen irl and she was wearing a tight fitting sweater with no bra so her giant boobs were perfectly formed in the sweater and she was nipping hard and it was hard to not have my eyeballs pop out of my head and steam shoot out of my ears as I shout “aooooga”

>>122918342Nigga SGs have been known for neck dive since the fucking 60s.
>>122922985hell yeah
>>122922993what disgusting gay gear you have
thanks
>>122923000he's kind of right though. i am a very skinny and practically every guitar wants to neck dive on me. neck dive deniers are all fatties.
>>122923000Never heard about it until reading posts here. I bet all the people who complained about it over the years were poindexters with narrow shoulders. Not big strong men like me.
>>122923028I agree theres merit but arguing about it over SGs is silly. Ive never played a guitar that wanted to kill its self more than a 62 SG special. Modern SGs are far and away better but its still there.
>>122923028Or they're all wearing the guitar up to their neck like a goof
>>122923048Nah he’s right, they’re really front heavy and dip forward (but I don’t think it’s a big deal because just I don’t know hold it up?? how hard is that retard)
>>122923048lmao naw man the SGs from the 60s bodies are only a little thicker than the neck. Alot of that reputation is from up to the 80s. Modern SGs arent nearly as bad but the 60s/70s models bodies are so thin theyre just poorly balanced.
>>122923054See I was just posting about liking every tele pickup position and wanting to go all in on them then I see queers like this
It seems if you're not a beef-cake hunk, the SG will try to get away from you... Never had that problem bros.
>>122923028Fingies go on fretboard. Hope that helps champ
>>122923108Modern SGs from my experience just kinda want to go parallel with your waist, and if you hold it up high it wants to go there fast. The bad reputation of them going to the floor is from what i was talking about a minute ago with the really fuckin old ones. its just boomer stories past down.
>>122922273Started with 9s, moved on to 10s.Really into bending, but I actually find it easy on 10s cause 9s are so thin they cuts up my fingers.
>Caught the lovebug (not AIDS)>Haven't played guitar in weeksGains are gone bros.
>>122923177Dont let your strings get that rusty have your action low.>t. 9 user on most of my electrics
>>122923237
Round core vs Hex core?
>>122923250>9s with low actionyeah this guy's tone is ass
>>122923280agreed. i will not listen to him.
>>122923261I don't like real life :(
wtf is the love bug? you fell in love with some faggot girl? pathetic. women are a drain on creativity.
>>122923306>>122923280they fell for the string jew
>>122923054I only play in a classical position similar to this even when laying down. i think the neck is more vertical when i do it too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATub40Npxik
>>122923415>faggot girlunironically closer than you intended to be
yeah so i am thinking that 11s are a bit uncomfy and the wound strings get a bit boomy and overdriven compared to the plain strings. might just go back to 10s.

>>122923787how many times have you changed strings today

>>122924306Maybe try a Needle of Wegovy, lmao
Dammit are we still on this anorexic hippy thread?
>>122923237>Women are deceiving,>Women are deceptive.>Caught the lovebug (not AIDS)>Haven't played guitar in weeks>Oh!
>>122916243>>122916266pick up the bass or banjo instead, you'll be a lot better faster.
He had to sell all his gibsmedatsonsTrust fund ran dry
>>122917479adjust the tone/volume knob until you get rid off the hiss.
>>122919770Unironically, modes helps with this. Also figure some patterns out to move from a place your comfortable to another (shredders don't improvise every note. they come up with general patterns that can be changed and used for different purposes)
>>122921008I don't love the finish, and the head looks a little jank. Otherwise I don't mind it
Fast pickers; What pick do you use? Is metal any good?
>>122921008dominos shows up on time
>>122921043more or less
Is it true that Floyd Rose types of tremolo are tone suckers?I'd like to have one but I don't use high gain tones and most demos I find are high gain metal slop
>>122926196I don't shred but a medium thick like the Tortex .88 is definitely more comfortable for fast picking.Metal picks are not comfortable at all since they have zero flexibility and you use them only for the sound, but it's quite a gimmick like playing with a coin and such
What do you think? Will I be mocked because it doesn’t say Gibsun?
>>122921008Vail Johnson approved
>>122927390nice gibson bridge usually they use epiphone bridges.
>>122927366The reason I asked fast pickers, specifically, is because those who only do pretty fast picking sometimes probably haven't had reason to change their technique a whole lot to accommodate. The reason I have been using thinner picks is because they give a nice bright sound which is nice for fast parts, but I have to kinda dig my thumb into it (bend it) to make less floppy for very fast stuff. I heard metal picks also sound bright, but I don't want some metallic ringing sound if that's a side-effect.
>>122927339Did it suck evh’s tone? >>122927366Evh used .60 and picked fairly aggressively. I’ve started gravitating toward thinner picks recently and I enjoy the dynamics I can get with them. Please recommend me a guitar that is along the lines of a Les Paul / PRS core that I’m not currently thinking about. In the market for a high end dual humbucker guitar either hard tail or tremolo.
I’ve had 7 Mary 3 cumbersome stuck in my head for days now :/
>>122927339In an A B comparison all you would notice is less sustain on the FR.
>>122927390is that a b bender in there
new thread>>122928922>>122928922>>122928922
>>122927339This is hard to say because not all of them are made equally. I've had Floyd Originals with the blocks changed and I can't get them to shut up and I've had some I just couldn't get to sustain. YMMV
