Just sit in and do the work, mate. I'm on a classical piece rabbithole and I'm taking weeks to finish a piece I'm convinced some experienced guitarist can play flawlessly in 3 days. It will take at least 2 years to have a full recital in this pace. I stopped caring, I just play for an hour before bed and that's that, I gave up expectations and I'm just playing. This month I already played more hours than the last 4 years combined, that I didn't play because I knew I didn't have time to practice the regiment of hours I wished I did, which is more about me being an asshole than something else, but at least now I'm finishing the fucking piece.

So, go sit on the PC and spend some no-expectation time fiddling with the drum kit and don't worry about making it work any soon.

>t. not in touch with his feelings
Living in the dream world will lead to a mental breakdown after a while. Reality won't match what you want to see. Blues is the acknowledgment of that.
>>
What chord are you playing tonight?
>>
>>122913555
no, blues is just the missing something feeling, having something and losing it, its the feeling blue, sad about something, that's the emotion, basically just your soul crying for something that's lacking that could be gained to improve it, usually sex, materials or morals, but usually the lyrics take a satirical turn and make fun of the feeling anyhow as a passing thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA52uNzx7Y4

It tells of a story of this little guy that lives in a blue world. And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue. Blue is also his house, with a blue little window and a blue corvette.

And everything is blue for him and himself and everybody around

Cause he ain't got nobody to listen to

Why do people have such shit taste in guitars? Primarily looking for Les Paul’s and PRS core. They’re all red, natural, some flamboyant color or slash editions. I just want a black white or gray PRS core or a burst, white or ebony Les Paul. Why can’t I find anything classy.

What is the horrendous static noise. Do you have your levels too high or is it just shitty modeling? Otherwise the tone isn’t terrible.
>>
>>122917100
Is it any particular PRS model? I feel like you see a shit ton of charcoal burst tremontis with both the stoptail and trem
>>
>>122917334
Yeah I don’t want a tremonti even though I like him. It has different pickups and the weird one covered one open thing. I’m looking at custom 24 cores in excellent condition. Preferably with the old hfs / vintage bass pickups or the newer 85/15 tci / 58/15 LT tci. There’s a lot of guitars on reverb, but they’re all price gouging because reverb and most are not in great condition. Ideally I’d like to pick one up locally for 2500 ish. I’d pay up to 3000 for very excellent condition. LP I don’t want to pay more than 1800 for a standard. This is what I hate about reverb it essentially price fixes the used market and thousands of guitars sit on there for a year or more.

if you can stand it, try to find custom 22s and lowball people. Speaking from experience, PRS cores don't move fast at all unless they're really particularly special
I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for an LP standard as well, even beyond the fact that I don't like them and the end user customer experience. They're too luck of the draw whether you get one that's good and the step up into a guaranteed good one is pushing $4k with an R9
I know the Heritage headstock is butt ugly but I'd seriously consider one of those too as it's some of the closest I've seen get in feel to the original bursts I've worked on
>>
>>122917522
Yeah and buying an an LP privately you don’t get enough time with the guitar to really put it through its paces. Honestly my shoulder is giving me issues which is the main reason I don’t have an LP yet. I wish they’d make the standard in 50s spec but with the weight relieved body. Custom 22 might be an option.
>>
>>122917522
Local guy wants 5k for an r9 that has checking on the headstock like lol
>>
>>122917605
I know the looks are really subjective on it but have you tried explorers? imo they sit in the crossroads of still being familiar to LP players while being a lot easier on the shoulder
>>122917645
the guys who own these are the same people who think their C5 zo6 is worth $30k
That generation will hit croaking point soon and you'll be able to scalp those R9s at estate sales for pennies on the dollar

>>
>>122917657
Reverb hasn’t helped any with people all pricing guitars way above market value and flooding the market with shit nobody wants to buy. I refuse to pay more than half of retail price for a used instrument unless it’s something extraordinarily valuable. I would pay 3000 for an r9. It used to be that you purchased second hand to get a good value while taking someone else’s unwanted shit from them. It’s not worth the gamble when you’re only saving 25%.

------
Instruments used on the recording (in order of recording): Cordoba ukulele, vocals, and tambourine (on the floor tapping with my foot while playing and singing). I than overdubbed my CC Clarke electric guitar. For the bass I engaged the pitch shift function on my Zoom G2 and set it an octave down. I than played the bass part on the CC Clarke, and eq'd the signal to sound more bass like. I than recorded a live drum performance with the drum pads of my Alesis Sr-16. I panned the vocals, ukulele, and tambourine track hard right, and panned the electric guitar the same. I put the drums and bass hard left. I added reverb and various effects before panning everything slightly more into the middle, just until I could hear the signal in the opposite earphone. The foot tapped tambourine panned opposite the drums provides an illusion of width on the drums that doesn't actually exist. Allowing it to not sound lopsided, but also providing separation through the physical speakers of instruments that could interfere with each others frequencies.
>>
>>122917744
The reason is simply nowadays see guitars as commodities instead of tools. Willingly investing money in something currently mass produced is both unwise and financially unsustainable. There will always be value in vintage gear or gear no longer being produced, but dudes wanting retail or higher for "used-mint" production guitars on Reverb is freaking retarded. The gear flippers and price gougers have destroyed the used market. You also have the shills like the JHS guy who, by simply stating that he likes a pedal, causes people to lose their shit and ask an exponentially higher price for said pedal.
>>
>>122917430

>>
>>122916234
SGs have neck dive, the bodies are so small and the necks are so obese that the neck wants to hang lower than the body of the guitar so you have to hold it up so it doesn't flop on the floor and explode because gibson make the necks like retards

Get a belt strap like Mr. Albini than, if you have the build of a light pole. It's interesting when people claim something has a flaw, when it's actually their skeletal structure that is causing the issue. You hate to see it.
>>
>>122918302
Do you knwo basic physics? The string gets bend whn you press down to hard, light touch is the way to play. You are a complete beginner it seems.
>>
>>122918196
the sad reality is that to like 95+% of the market they're luxury goods rather than a tool to be used and that opens up people to treat them like watches, vintage cars, etc
All those very dear vintage guitars were production line guitars once and the price jump between decades over time just keeps getting wider and wider, norlin era 80's les pauls known to be junk for decades are now pushing past retail value
I don't think this will be sustainable with consumer tastes in the long term but it's the way it is right now
>>
>>122918355
I've never noticed this in 20 years of off and on playing. I just assumed, if it's set up properly, there wouldn't be enough slack for additional bending of the string.
>>
>>122917820
your tonehand needs pressure adjustment, action doesn't affect this directly, but if it's too high you may subconsciously press harder to compensate

I notice the tone from my middle finger and ring finger is much better than from my index finger or pinky? Is there anything I can do to work on this? Or anything I can buy? Is there anything on the market to improve finger tone? The pros say 90% to the tone comes from the fingers, I will pay for better finger tone. I need richer mids from my index and more powerfal bass from my pinky.

You will not likely get anywhere if you don't learn basic theory.
Get a good music theory book (Open Music Theory is free)
Learn counterpoint, basic harmony and get familiarised with notation and compose using it.
Then learn how to write good melodies and you should be able to progress by yourself.
It will take you like 6 months to get good at the basics.
So no, it's not over for you, also Michael Gira was relatively old when he started with Swans.

To the bassists in the thread, how long did it take you from picking up the bass to becoming an ok player? I've been thinking of trading my saxophone for a bass guitar, i don't like playing it anymore. I'll probably not be able to practice more than an hour a day.
>>
>>122920530
I was in the same position as you but i refuse to sell my tenor, i still play it here and there. Anyway about 6months or so to get decent enough to play in a band and not get laughed at about a year until i felt confident in my ability im 2 years in and ive transcribe way more songs on bass than i ever dreamt of on sax
>>
>>122920718
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i completely lost interest in the sax, haven't taken it out he case in a week now, and before that a few times i would take it off the case, put the mouthpiece on, put the reed on, strap it to my neck and then just sit there for a a couple of minutes not playing and putting it back in the case again lol.
>>
>>122920530
2-4 months to play along with a band competently. 1+ year to write full basslines. 3+ years to improvise and it not sound like ass.
>>
>>122920851
if you get into bass you’ll probably start with rock and blues. If you already have basic music theory under your belt it’s only a month or two to get decent technique under your fingers. playing 16th notes in metal for full song duration may take you up to a year of practice. you’ll probably start off with blues or rock and eventually take an interest in jazz unless you already have favorite genres. jazz is considered the pinnacle of bass playing; I think maybe it was Ray Brown that said it is easier to solo than it is to write a good bassline. I think a lot of modern bassists are very derivative; I would recommend checking out Ray Brown, James Jamerson, Victor Wooten (also listen to his teachings), and Les Claypool just because they are all very unique and considered masters of their instrument. I personally think Jamerson is the best electric bass player that ever lived, but he died relatively young at his height of experimentation

adjust the tone/volume knob until you get rid off the hiss.

Unironically, modes helps with this. Also figure some patterns out to move from a place your comfortable to another (shredders don't improvise every note. they come up with general patterns that can be changed and used for different purposes)

I don't love the finish, and the head looks a little jank. Otherwise I don't mind it

Is it true that Floyd Rose types of tremolo are tone suckers?
I'd like to have one but I don't use high gain tones and most demos I find are high gain metal slop

I don't shred but a medium thick like the Tortex .88 is definitely more comfortable for fast picking.
Metal picks are not comfortable at all since they have zero flexibility and you use them only for the sound, but it's quite a gimmick like playing with a coin and such

nice gibson bridge usually they use epiphone bridges.

The reason I asked fast pickers, specifically, is because those who only do pretty fast picking sometimes probably haven't had reason to change their technique a whole lot to accommodate. The reason I have been using thinner picks is because they give a nice bright sound which is nice for fast parts, but I have to kinda dig my thumb into it (bend it) to make less floppy for very fast stuff.
I heard metal picks also sound bright, but I don't want some metallic ringing sound if that's a side-effect.

Did it suck evh’s tone?
>>122927366
Evh used .60 and picked fairly aggressively. I’ve started gravitating toward thinner picks recently and I enjoy the dynamics I can get with them.

Please recommend me a guitar that is along the lines of a Les Paul / PRS core that I’m not currently thinking about. In the market for a high end dual humbucker guitar either hard tail or tremolo.

In an A B comparison all you would notice is less sustain on the FR.

This is hard to say because not all of them are made equally. I've had Floyd Originals with the blocks changed and I can't get them to shut up and I've had some I just couldn't get to sustain. YMMV
