Why did you choose sharps instead of flats
>>
>>124105338
Well that entire first bar you're altering the quality instead of moving anywhere.
-M, +#11, susb9 7#11.
It's a color alteration instead of a change.

You're doing a lot with dim chords basically moving between dims and non dim, or mixing whole tone scales. Your G# A##s are just Ab and B natural,
C A C F Ab
Is a ouble dim which functionally goes anywhere so you go

Ab B Bb Db Gb A
To triple dim goes anywhere aka whole tone scales

C F Bb A C F Ab
Bb9 with maj7 omit3rd, you've chosen a euphonious option after going dark we have some brightness

F Ab Db E / C

So this plus the previous with the chromatic descending fifths is your functional passage from Bb7 to C11b9#5
Eb #9

B13#11

Bb Db Gb A / G
Another double dim pedal the G resolve to
G7#11b9

Then you, obviously, go to C

So there's your functional passage to hold your quality altering chromaticism together and the run is nifty F E Ab Eb F Bb F E (B natural) Emaj7#11 the Fs are passing tones. E to Cmaj is functional E and G are the same family

Cmaj7, +, 6
Looks like you trill that over F# and then go to D-Maj, totally normal stuff

id like to hear it
>>
>>124107480
Oof, thinking about it in flats after learning it as written makes my head hurt.
The image name is the title of the piece; it's the third and final piece in Szymanowski's Metopy (Op.29). All the pieces are tied together and themes appear here and there tying them all together.
The snapshot in question starts around 0:48 in this recording:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLWRpld0E9Y
I really like Martin Roscoe's recordings.
Martin Jones is nice too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsH1Fkokqto
This dude is also really good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0ccMib1sFM

I see the whole tone scales that you mention and outlines of the chords you describe.
I don't see the descending fifths as chromatic
>E, D, C, B, G
I like how the B and G make a nice major 7th sound to, in my mind, resolve/end that left hand phrase while the other voice lines continue to float over the top.

>total normal stuff
lol
>>
nobody here knows what they're talking about
>>
>>124107795
A lot of the wandering stuff like this accomplishes is due to the nature of 3rds. If you keep floating around whole tones and -3 progressions you have the distinctive sound of not being in a key, because the symmetrical scales belong equally to all keys

The most readable version for me would've a mix a sharps and flats but maybe sharps alone are best I did misspell a few things. And after analyzing it im enjoying it a lot more than before :<

Sounds a lot like ravel. Jazz is largely based on impressionist harmony, Herbie tunes have some interesting quality moves and monk is very angular like that but jazz usually gives some primacy to a key because it's for improv for an audience. but like listen to this guy he's all over the place
https://www.chrisandersonjazz.com/new-album-1
>>
>>124106261
sounds like it's missing something. I can't pinpoint it. just feels empty.
>>
>>124107978
>Sounds a lot like ravel.
For sure. There are parts in there that I swear were inspired by Ravel's Miroirs.
I need to listen to more Herbie.. and jazz in general, but I still have so many pieces to learn.

Mm The Chris Anderson examples I've listened to so far are pretty, uh, angular as you say, perhaps. It's like he forces the harmony with these almost harsh, distinct full bodied chords instead of letting phrases intertwine and imply different harmonies in a softer way -- which would be more my style.
I need to remember what Daedelus did to Bill Evans..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLYYCOfWq94
I love the resonance. I think senpai gave me some tips.. I'll need to dig back into my txt files.

Incoming dumb fuck ramble here, but I need some advice. What's more important for a beginner to work on?
>actually being able to finish a piece with just dry sounds, but having good ear for what sounds work well together, what works compositionally etc.
or;
>being able to mix and design sounds that sound good and fit together (or using good quality sounds/vsts) so you can then compose a piece?
This is a dumb question that might not make much sense cause I'm having trouble articulating the issue, but I keep having unfocussed sessions where I get inspired and just try to lay something down, but get really discouraged and turned off by how shit the vsts I use sound. I tried to force myself into a mindset of just trying to take everything from a soundfont pack to try and speed things up and force me to finishing a compostion fully instead of getting bogged down by mixing, but find that it sounds too shit, so I just abandon the idea. I also feel like it just might be my inexperience with creating music and knowing what flows well or not - maybe someone experienced could compose with these dry ass soundfonts and have it still sound good, but I'm clearly not there yet. How do other anons balance this out and what did do that felt best for improving as a beginner? I'm at the stage where I've re-listened to all my projects and want to put them on a HDD so I can set fire to them cause I didn't realise how bad the ideas all were.

I've been working on a remake of Kill the Noise - Dying as a learning project. I still have quite a few details to add and a lot of mixing to be done, but I'd love some feedback on what I have so far. Second drop is of my own making, the rest is 1 to 1 trying to replicate.

https://voca.ro/13vNVYz0T43Y

- I don't know where to begin to get my shit sounding as full as the original, I'm planning on mixing it while using some reference tracks. I've never done this before, I guess this is how I find out?
- I've been fucking around with delays and shit to get the (synth-v) vocals sounding a bit closer to the original but in the vocaroo clip I just slapped on some Crystallizer preset and another extra Fruity Delay 3. Any tips?
- The original arp in the beginning; does anyone have some pointers on how to recreate this? I found a Sakura preset which comes very close, but there's some fuckery with layers and delays going on here which I don't understand.
- The saw chords sound way too harsh, but I don't understand how to make them "softer" without removing the saw timbre like the OG has.

>having good ear for what sounds work well together
informs
> mix and design sounds that sound good and fit together

Being good at sound selection and balancing that with composition is just practice like everything else.
At the start if you're having trouble I would recommend:
>dedicated time to finding and organizing sounds you like (sample, presets, whatever) and compiling or taking note of what you want to use later
>dedicated time to learning sound design/effects/tools
>dedicated composition time based on the previous two; already knowing what you're going for before you start rather than doing it all at once

reference tracks may help with all three of these and i highly recommend having just one or two per song where you have either a palette of sounds you know you want to rip or some specific thing like a chord progression or beat that you want to mimic

its not a saw chord, its one of these

you'll struggle to recreate the vocals as KTN has got multiple vocal recordings harmonised, whereas it sounds like the vocal you've ripped hasn't captured the multiple layers

original arp in the beginning sounds like its FM, if you can get the FM right then the processing of it shouldn't be too hard

When I get to the end of mixing sometimes I go to play a song out of my headphones or in my car and it's drastically quieter than other songs I have, and quieter than stuff playing on streaming apps from professional bands. Is their a plugin that I can add as a final step that will set the overall volume to what the standard volume of stuff on YT, Spotify etc is? Like, I'll have something playing that seems to be blasting and then it is just nowhere near as loud when I render the file and I cannot figure out why. I don't do anything really big different between songs, my amp volume and mic volumes never get adjusted, I don't move the volume sliders down or up substantially, it's so weird.

That Volt 1 interface has a single balanced mono input, so by default it will send a mono signal to your DAW.
How it receives the signal you're outputting from your MPC is a different matter, ie which type of Y-cable is that? Does it have a TRS plug on the end that gets plugged into the interface?

Those TRS plugs when used with stereo Y-cables are intended to be inserted to stereo input sockets, not one that uses the TRS connection for a balanced mono input like your interface. Internal wiring and the balancing circuitry in the interface will determine how it reacts to a stereo signal being presented to it via the TRS, it may ignore the left channel, it may ignore the right channel or it may sum the two, but the way balanced connections work involves flipping the polarity of one of the received signals so summing might have unintended results

TL;DR your interface only has a single mono input, so everything you record from the MPC will be in mono and possibly also missing a channel sent by the MPC, or mangled by the balanced circuitry

Not everybody is making tutorials assuming that their viewers are NEW new though.
DAW basics and genre basics don’t need to be in the same video.

>So reversing the polarity will work? (Possibly)

Work in what way? It won't allow you to record stereo signals if that's what you mean, your interface doesn't have a stereo input. And if you mean reversing polarity after it's been recorded into your DAW, then all you'll end up with at that point is still a mono recording, but with its polarity flipped.

If the issue you want to fix is mono sounding recordings, record in stereo, and for that you'll need an interface that has a stereo input.

Am I missing something, or did he break away from the lesson to teach us how to make ghost notes instead? I still can't see the notes of the key on the roll.
>>
>>124132906
The lesson was done by 1:25, what else do you need to know?
What do you mean ghost notes? He didn't do anything outside of the scope of "scale highlighting."
>>
>>124132687
Fml why would they not give you the option to do both? God damn it sucks being new. Thanks for the help anon

>>124132906
i find it far more confusing when i change the scale helpers, because the standard (cmaj) highlighting shows the keys as they are on a keyboard
this feature was really designed for people who don't know what keys are in each scale
>>
>>124133213
not her, but it should just automatically fold the notes. i don't find scale modes useful in piano rolls nor do i think they'd help if i didn't know theory. the chord stamp tools are similarly useless

is there something exactly like the OP-Z that doesn't sound like shit? like a really, really tiny portable sequencer/sampler/synth gadget that is also very powerful? the sequencer on the OP-Z is fantastic but the synth engines are dogshit, the effects are dogshit, the sampling storage is only 30MB(!) and the whole modules system is just a mess.

Modern CPUs/SoCs are some of the most complex things ever made. The machine that builds them alone is absolutely insane as well, and a fabrication plant from TSMC or whatever takes 5 or more years to build.
The only option these gear manufacturers have to get decent performance like you're saying is to buy general purpose off-the shelf parts, which is also very expensive and pretty much requires a scale that music gear companies rarely if ever come close to.
Maybe they can find a way to basically build an android phone with a custom form factor and a custom ROM like those Chinese handheld emulators, but I wouldn't bet on them reaching those scales either.

just bought a ddt 770.
ffs I thought these had detachable headphone cables, but turns out that was only the Thomann 70th anniversary edition.
the fuck do I do now? return it? headphone cables always fucking break after like 3 years so when that inevitably happens I at least wanna be able to replace it without having to solder shit myself...
>>
>>124138977
dunno but i had 990 and the headband securers broke which basically resulted in each of my 2 headphones dangling from the
headband
also the earpads started looking godawful like they have grime in them, with a weird color
but thats all okay, since redditors said that those headphones could survive until the heat death of the universe
>>
>>124139176
>also the earpads started looking godawful like they have grime in them, with a weird color
that's a humans problem. same way artificial leather starts dissolving from our natural body oils. but at least with the ddt 770 you'll likely always be able to find replacement parts, unlike with my Sennheiser HD 380 pro which aren't being made anymore so you can't buy replacement parts anymore except from dubious 3rs parties
