Well since we're gonna talk about Metallica a bunch in this thread. Just finished relistening to Ride the Lighting after a long time, still amazing first of all. But I'm now thinking that so many genre defining classic albums are actually quite monotone. What happened to having a bunch of songs that are a bit of a change up? Why not have a midtempo atmospheric song or two on more thrash albums? Honestly this may be one of the factors that separates truly outstanding bands from the rest.
