IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE: Guitar review / demo video where they play something other than country music & bluegrass.
You'd think nobody buys guitars outside of the American South...
>>
I wish they made this in hardtail. I'm still tempted to get it regardless cause the specs are good and the colour is gorgeous. Hardtail superstrats are way too damn rare.

It's actually quite easy, even for a layperson, to find perfect unison, give or take a few cents, look how fast the dissonance spikes

There's a minutephysics video on this

You mean just for acoustics right? Cause I can find 100 reviews for electrics where they don't touch bluegrass
>>
>>129789619
Yeah, for any acoustic guitar promo, 99/100 videos only show off country music and/or bluegrass

A lot of this is simply trial and error. Matching notes. Fiddling around until you get something similar. I use a looping software called Amazing Slow Downer on a computer (but there is a phone version also) a lot to help me loop sections of songs and slow them down (or change the pitches completely) to figure out songs by ear. The slow down and loop features are how I do it. You can save out the waveforms too in MP3 format if you wanted to refer to them in future (even at the slowed rate).

I can only speak for me but the more that I learned songs by ear versus a tutorial, the better I got as well as the more mileage I got long term...meaning the easier I could pick up songs just by hearing them.

This is Roni Music website for amazing slow downer. Check it out on YouTube. It's available out there on the web if you know how to RUtracker.

Dreadnaught or Concert?
>>
>>129789683
Yeah that's an option, I just find it sorta wasteful, especially since I'd be doing it a second time. And the colour for me is great, I usually find black guitars utterly boring but this black sunburst with the flame and the white streaks is gorgeous to me. One of my favourite colour schemes.
>>
i keep telling myself i should learn how to read musical notation but that day never comes because it's insane there are 12 different keys which means 12 different ways to read the tablature

Oh and there is another piece of software by seventhstring called Transcribe. It can do stuff like Amazing Slow Downer but it's more on steroids. You can actually see the waveforms of the music themselves. It's pretty cool stuff. But I don't use it that much as my preference is Amazing Slow Downer.

don't forget the minor maj7, a lot guitarists use it as passing notes like Cm-CmMaj7-Cm7-also oh yeah don't forget add 6 chord like C6, D6
>Are the upper chord extensions like 9ths or 11ths, majmin7ths, etc really necessary
when composing i think my limit is 5-notes chord like maj9, dom9, 7#9, 7b9. any more than that it's just pianist's job
>>
>>129789946
Not really. But by not using them they limit your color pallet so to speak. Instead of having a wide variety of colors to choose from, everything gets painted using the same colors as far as your limited pallet is concerned.

All these chord variants do is extend chord voicings giving you more choice of sound expression.

TL;DR, learn how to construct chords yourself which means knowing your fretboard and some basic chord construction theory. Then you can decide if you should learn the upper registers of chord construction. As a beginner, probably not. As an intermediate, yes you should.

It’s the fretboard. The fret isn’t scalloped. You don’t need it anyways.

Tube amps are just bullshit, right? There's no sound they can make that you can't recreate using a solid state amp just with software. Is this shit like tone wood?
>>
>>129790131
Yes, all the professionals are wrong and all the people playing the Master of Puppets riff at guitar center were secretly right.
>>
>>129790131
You can't stick a whole solid state amp up your butt but you can stick a tube up your butt from your tube amp. Think creatively.
>>
>>129790131
You can lose your ass on a tube amp. Imagine taking an amp to get serviced with 4 6L6GTs and 4 12AX7s. You’re looking at almost $500 in tubes. Now they need to be biased so that’s going to cost you. Rough up your head getting it to the gig? Time to get it serviced again. Suddenly your amp is putting out a ton of heat? Service time. Suddenly your sound is thin without any mids or bass? Service it again. With the right tube amp and cab you’re going to sound like a million bucks but you better be ready to put up with the hassle.
>>
>>129790131
tubes are great if you play at home or record and want to get a great tone in less than 2 mins
>>
>>129790210
You should be trying to get single 12__s tubes at $10 and any octal tube around $15.

Musicians will only bias the power tubes. To bias you literally need to meter one fucking number then solve P= I*V. Or you could buy a fixed bias amp that does not require adjustment, aka cathode bias.

A $200 amp is a $2000 amp with a different logo. It's all nonsense.
>>
>>129790190
I'm not necessarily saying they're wrong. There may be reasons to use them, like simply knowing how to work with them, but there's no reason I can think of why I, as an amateur should even think about owning one.

>You missed minor 7th, maj & min 6th chords, and maybe some others.

Here’s what you need to know
>it’s all a mindset shift, not more knowledge
>you can supplement this approach with rote learning too
The extensions are just that: extending the flavor (pistacho ice cream is the chord, almonds/mint/ratpoison are the extensions), but what I think of them as is CHORDS WITHIN A CHORD.

Learning by rote is okay but takes too much RAM. Instead, learning extensions has multiple aspects that you probably know already:

For example, it’s easier to think of C9 as some of the following:

> a C major arpeggio and a G minor arpeggio.
> a C major arpeggio with an Emin7b5
> a Cmajor with a Bb - D diad
> a C D E G Bb scale played simultaneously in a particular voicing

When it comes to extensions, I just think what flavors I want. Some autists put together shaded by color grades of all musical feelings by chord structure (ie. darker, brighter, warmer), but it’s easier to form your own tastes.

For the slime it’s a major 7th(#11)(no 5th). But I don’t “think” about it like that. I think of it as the sound of heart break

>Conclusion:
If you’re asking the question, you’re already ahead of the game. Grab a piano, start intermeshing triads and you’ll see it instantly. Then transfer that idea to guitar, especially OPEN TUNINGS and Modal Playing.

>Result:
You can improvise at will and compose without getting intellectual about it all. Music becomes more about shifting shades and moods, like ragas.

You don't have to learn to read notation unless you play classical music. It just makes no sense when a single note can be played in multiple places on the guitar, unlike the piano for example where every note has its own key. All you need to learn is the note time.

then make it x7678x, with E at the bottom, it makes E7#9 chord
then make it x8678x, with F at the bottom, it makes Fm6/9 chord

now let's focus on the sixth string
make it 6x678x, with Bb at the bottom, it becomes Bb13
make it 7x678x, with B at the bottom, it becomes Bm6((#5)
make it 8x678x, with C at the bottom, it becomes Csus2(add b13)

What’s the deal with pedal builders just putting their name and the name of the pedal that’s totally unrelated to what it does or having it full of artwork without labeling what it does? Here is a pedal built by Wet Fart Pedal Co that is solid brown with four knobs labeled the “Stinker” but nobody knows its a flanger without having prior knowledge of what it is or pulling out their phone and googling “wet fart stinker” to know what it is. Or here’s a pedal built with three by who knows who because the box is just bright flashy colors showing the scene of a Mexican guy in an orchard with no words and nobody knows it’s actually a preamp of Clapton’s Beano tone and it’s called the “Beaner” and built by a boutique builder called Disgruntled Art Student without having prior knowledge of the pedal or googling “guitar pedal with a guy picking fruits”. I hate this trend. Name it whatever you want and have whatever artwork you want on it, but put “chorus” on the face of it somewhere if it’s a chorus pedal. Earthquaker is guilty of this, a local shop is an Earthquaker dealer but won’t let you demo the pedals and half the staff don’t know what they actually do and when looking at the pedals behind the glass I have no fuckin idea what the majority of them even do without having to look them up myself. At least with stuff like Boss you know it’s a reverb pedal because it says “Reverb” right on it.

It's because people should be fucking embarrassed to spend $300 on something simple like chorus pedal. Make the case vague and colorful enough, chumps will think you've got this magic do-everything box.

God wants you to play in DADF#AD, not heretical standard tuning.

>>129793448
>make it 8x678x, with C at the bottom, it becomes Csus2(add b13)

That’s Abmajor7#(11)/C, isn’t it? The ab c and G are the shell voicing and the D is the color note.

If it isn’t, tell me which tune uses Csus2(b13)?

The reason i am being pedantic is that I took the slime to play EVERY chord in the real book. All motherfucking 300+ of em (it took 30 hours), and all these weird voicings only popped in unlistenable garbage. Like seeing Emaj/F -> Fmaj/F# etc

I do that three-chord grip, especially in the Minutemen tune “toadies”:

https://youtu.be/Ehqr0pG7er8?si=-4QoEY2_LcJ6Q2Mh

Anyways, you got the right idea -> find an easy grip and move bass notes around. I tend to just see the arpeggio, grab some no-no notes (and some yes-yes notes), and it makes it easier to dress up progressions in real time.

well that's the beauty of jazz, it doesn't need to make sense but someone more proficient than me would know how to use it, i mean the whole notes belong to Eb major keys so it's not that weird in the grand scheme of more schizoid jazzy chords like if piano, you play C-Bb on your left but your right hand play E major chords.

>guitar more accessible
Clearly you need braille strings.

Assuming you mean accessible in terms of sensory or physical body limitations...

People have tried over the years to improve the guitar and it really is already damn near perfect and has withstood the test of time.

If you can come up with a digital way to interact with a guitar using your Playstation controller or something similar, then have at 'er. Thing is, it won't be a guitar anymore. It will be another derivative that may or may not catch on (emphasis on the latter) just like all the rest that came before it.

There are a lot of blind guitar players for example. Some play with their feet instead of hands. Some are deaf but can feel the vibrations through their bones. So in a way it already is very accessible as it is. It's up to you to adapt to it.

There comes a point in time where you just accept it for what it is and use it as a machine of sound expression, or you move on to an instrument that you can handle given one's physical abilities and limitations.

I'm trying to narrow my board which is mostly boss down to 3 drive pedals, a compressor, a reverb and a delay. The drives I have to choose from are: BPw, SD1w, MT2w, FZ2, BD2, OS2, DS1, ST2, DN2, GE-7.

What ones should I use?

Guitar Center sat a few miles down the road, a big-box building squatting there like it had always been and always would be. Mountain pushed through the doors and the air changed. It smelled like wood and dust and old sound
He picked up a ukulele from the wall. It was lighter than it should’ve been. When he strummed it, the sound didn’t echo so much as linger, like it didn’t want to leave. A few people glanced over, uneasy, as though they’d heard their own names whispered from another room.
