I have a Virago 250. I'm seeing a lot of people add pod filters to their bike but mostly for cosmetic reasons, the bug-eye looking chrome pods turn people off. Is there any benefit to using these? Am I better using stock?

Fellow beginner cruiser friend, it is for two reasons. The maintenance is easier that way and rebel people have been doing the same on the pre 17' gens. Power gains are basically non existent but it is aesthetic.

No paper air filter, it's a sponge inside one of the chrome pods. I think the frame acts as an airbox for the whole system.

How so? Replacing the sponge and oiling it took me about 2 or 3 minutes. Or am I missing some other bike related maintenance that is made easier due to the pods?

Pod filters can let more air in, which is needed so you can put more fuel in, which hypothetically lets you get more power.

in practice they only let more air in if you also have a freer-flowing exhaust, you have to swap carb jets or I guess ECU map to put more fuel in to match more air, and there's only a tiny slight amount of add'l power you can get out of a stock engine by increasing fuel-air mixture amount (and even smaller on a 250)

the downsides are shittier idle/less smooth everything, so IMO not worth it. I also think they look like shit

Its not just a slipon, its that + mid pipe. Honestly its very close to straightpipe, its so loud.
You dont need a tune, but its better. The ECU is pretty smart and in few cycles will adjust the a/f ratio by itself

>turning indicator L/R

I could just leave some space for extra lights but is there any pros having for example multi-LED fuel gauge? Other indicators I think could be useful:

It's not that cheapo bolted shit like the MT09 or the RS660 anyways. I'm actually not surprised but it totally has openings for intake ducts they aren't using because they don't want to change the airbox on the street bike, so presumably the GYTR kit will come with that and cut a hole where the headlight is. Makes sense from a pure factory racing practicality standpoint because of the intake noise but is total bullshit for the average person, I mean people bitch about what it costs to make a CBR600 a competitive race bike because it's very slightly more street focused but it's nothing compared to what an R9 will.

yeah you 100% need some kind of venting or you'll burn up in the summer and have the visor fog up in the winter.

UJMs are expensive now because they hit peak trendy a few years ago. 550s are cheaper but less common than 750s. consider a 900F supersport or similar too

Ok in it's class it's considered low milage. so that's relative. Pic related in kilometers. The float seems to be stuck bc it looses fuel when it turn the cock. lol. gotta do the carb anyways. I'm really thinking about splitting the case but that's almost too much for a winter bike that I want to abuse a bit.

A lot of, but not all of them.

I usually don't get home until around ~5 during the week and hen figure about hour to get changed and put my gear on, so it's very nice to be able to stay at the house and still be able to get some actual dirt riding in before dark.

>havent encountered any jumps yet on my T7

You probably don't want to - the 7's OEM suspension really, really sucks.

Even revalved with +25mm links I had to over-spring mine so much to handle the riding I like to do that it has literally zero rider sag with all ~225lbs of me on it and it still bottoms hard.

Today I tried an aluminum monopod and 4 ram mount clamps to have 2 separate points of contact on the monopod and the bike which worked well enough at low speed to give me a flicker of confidence it might be able to hold up to a professional retard like me.. it made it about a lap and a half before it blew two of the clamps apart and broke the end off the aluminum monopod and yeet'd the gopro off the rear wheel into the weeds.

I've got 49mm A-kit Showa forks off a 2017 CRF450R waiting in the shop that I'm going to be swapping in over the winter season after I have them rebuilt for the application. I'll probably just drop the coin for an MXTech rally shock so the rear can be an easy bolt-in affair.

Does it have a fucked up clutch where it's pretty much either on or off with no friction zone between ?

My friend has a TW exactly like that and I cannot figure out what the fuck is wrong with it. I replaced everything, frictions, steels, springs and set all the adjustments, but it's either ON or OFF and if you drop the clutch it has a slight delay before it engages. It's infuriating.

It's fun AF though, especially for how underpowered it is.
>>
>>28032032
ok so ur better than that guy? how does that have any bearing on my question? it's definitely above par for the drz
>>
>>28032135
when my Tenere sat for a few days and instantly use the clutch, it makes a horrible sound because all the oil is squeezed out of the friction zone by the spring pressure so it's pretty dry in there. Then the friction zone is also just 0.5mm of lever pull. Most ppl want a sharp clutch I also like it so I don't see any issue. it's the perfect wheelie machine

The answer is lots and lots of practice and knowing where your limits are. Start mastering basics like using the clutch, body positioning, weight transfer, etc then start attempting things that are outside your comfort zone. Know how to wreck your bike safely and be ready to drop it when something goes wrong.

HJC Rpha 91 is a great budget touring helmet with modular functionality (not good) and is one of the quietest helmets you'll find without wearing a balaclava to keep it quieter. Simpson bandit is a very very loud helmet and hasn't passed ece.2206 so it's not the safest either. The Skorpion covert FX is a nice ece.2206 compliant version of the same helmet and also has better sound dampening. And the little gay S on the helmet can come off with the help of some dental floss so you can put your own sticker there

On longer trips it adds up. A backpack is fine for a few days especially if you're staying indoors (i.e. not camping), but every "mode" of gear/clothing takes liters. Camping gear, beach stuff, laptop, nicer clothes if you're riding someplace fancy, etc. If I was going to ride out on a two month long summer vacation I'd have panniers, topbox, tankbag, and maybe a duffel strapped to the pillion seat.

And yes that does hurt how well the bike handles. That's why all good boxes are quick-detach so when you get where you're going you can goon around unburdened.

It's not a gimmick dude, these guys with TV screen clusters are living the life. The bike displays so much info. Anything from suspension travel, oil temps, coolant temps, real time lean angle and logs maximums. Can't even lowside because the TV will tell you when you're about to lowside so you can stop leaning. Also it displays a map so you can't get lost ,very big deal. Later on when people hack the TV it'll gain even more functionality. Analogue gauges can't do anything!

So I've been getting more comfortable with backing it into corners by engine braking mostly, just now that I realised all the times my rear stepped out when I emergency braked were likely a newb's version of backing it in because I just had to emergency brake again today and it did the same thing, the feeling was similar.
But I used the rear brake instead of downshifting, it doesn't feel like the rear fully locked up no skidding noise.
>Mfw I've been kicking the rear out since day 1

>Btw I've never been on two wheels before except for a bicycle. But I like the idea of a klr650.
Buy some crash bars for it and get one. Here's the thing: You really can't go wrong wtih a KLR. they are tractors, they will live forever. The biggest thing to worry about breaking is yourself when you drop it, or the plastic farings on the bike (That you can replace). Buy a set of Tusk Crash Guards and the KLR and have yourself a good time.

t. wish he got a KLR when he could have got one real cheap.

Mostly a placebo i think. It stays in place until you take the cover off then it breaks because of how you have to untorque it (overtorqued from factory) and people think it was always broken when in reality messing with it broke it

MV Agusta is already at 800cc for their 675 derived triple. Now that there's zero motivation to maintain any kind of displacement classes the extent of "development" these days is to just keep adding stroke to cancel out the power you lose from putting the world's most gigantic exhaust tumor on the bike.
