I just got back two minutes ago, and only because I was bingo fuel. Kalm Yo'tits.

The bike is SO GOOD! On paper the R1250RS weighs about the same as a VFR800 but because the shaftdrive+boxer carries the weight so much lower than a V4 so it FEELS lighter and is a lot easier to flick. The stock pseudo clipons are great, just sporty enough without making me stiff after a hard ride. It also has all the torgs. All of them. It's like a Harley that actually revs high, and the shiftcam feels like VTEC when you get on it. The clutch pull is super light, and the stance is more relaxed than the VFR, or even a V-Strom 650 because it was made for tall white people.

I'm actually considering trading in my V-Strom for this R1250RS. It's just the best sport tourer I've ever ridden. Goddamn.

It seems to be intrinsic to all of their 4 cyls. Even on the big engines, comparatively between my zx14 and my buddy's busa, my zx14 exhaust note has this higher pitched buzz than the busa has. My hunch is that is has to do with combustion chamber design and cylinder head flow characteristics. All different combinations of headers and mufflers, I can still tell a Suzuki from a Kawasaki.

I can't really tell a Yamaha or a Honda apart though, they sound the same to me.

>>
>>28038644
You should be able to tell a Yamaha and Honda apart, Yamaha R1 and CBR1k have entirely different firing orders. R1 has a cross plane crankshaft that gives it the same order as a V4.

I'm gonna go to Spain (Fuengirola) with my coworkers again. it's the annual all-inclusive holiday we have. I've been given the green light to rent whatever motorcycle I want for 4 days and I can even get a hotel covered by work for some epic long journey

even though I ride a CBR600F4i at home, I really like harleys. I've got the option of a road kind vs heritage softtail. both are slow but which one is better for long touring? I like the look of the heritage softtail more but the road king is supposed to have less vibrations. anyone got experience with these? last year I was riding a 1200T superlow and that thing was slow and it vibrated like hell at highway speeds

I just want a V2 machine that's comfy and has that V2 sound

>>28038413
If you're talking about WR250 anon that's a different guy

Tried out the MT-09 today, really really love the engine and totally get the appeal, feels like the throttle is on a hair trigger and it can disappear out from under you. R9 makes way more sense to me now, seems like the linear power and torque people obsess over with Ptwins but delivered smoothly without ridiculous engine braking. Surprised more manufacturers aren't making models in this class.
Don't understand the seating situation however, who the fuck likes not having a windshield? When we got on the freeway I could feel myself pulling on the handlebars because my body was put into a sail position. I know that the MT series is for posers who don't get past fourth gear on the street but good god it felt like my actual steering was being effected by just how much wind I was catching at any given moment. Outside of parking lot that riding position fucking sucks.
Wanted to try out the T7 but the guy at the signup desk told me that the lowered T7 wasn't available so I probably should try riding the bolt instead. I still wanted to try it out but it killed my confidence pretty hard and I went home

We'll see, so far only sat on it. There's a lot to testride still, have the F900 GS open and hopefully the Big guy 1300er GS as well. Wanted to go for the S1KXR but since the weather is ass I guess this will have to wait until next year sadly. Got to sit on the M1000xr, and while it is kind of ridiculously gaudy, it felt like a great place to be on. Guess a normal S1KXR will suffice for now, since I don't have 30k to blow on a bike currently.

got any more redpills or further reading on this? I really enjoyed my ride so I'd be interested on why it's such a bad motor on paper and why a bigger balancing shaft is too big of a compromise for other manufacturers to want to take a shot at something that seems well beloved by its community

I would hope so too, I don't mean to grandstand but it was kind of upsetting seeing how many people did the Harley foot dangle at the stops where they would tiptoe either foot on the ground rather than planting left foot down and right foot rear brake. The only other person who stopped the bike proper were the instructors and a girl a few inches shorter than me.
I saw a 50+ year old man on the super T doing the bowlegged foot dangle at a stoplight

I don't think we know anything. Its probably got a completely different tune and gearing from the mt09. Its supposed to replace the race teams R6 so Yamaha better have waved some kind of magic wand on the R9. It looks like it has a bigger radiator so it probably makes more heat, so good sign there.

Maybe you are lost anon but we are in the daily ***bike*** thread. 3 hours would be fucking insanity, the 91/55 corridor is honestly the worst traffic in Southern California for a few miles but it goes by fast lane splitting. My reward for not getting merged into was riding a freshly repaved Ortega highway, which is a really, really nice road if pleb traffic isn't too heavy. Florida plate crossovers that don't use the turnouts are the bane of my existence and that road is too winding/blind for even my dumb ass to attempt illegal overtakes on most parts of it. Saw her once every other weekend, that was enough. Trip would be about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on time spent lanesplitting and number of retards on Ortega.

This is your reminder you have a clutch and a kill switch. It's wise to use the kill switch for all shutdowns so doing that becums instinked. If clutch cable breaks or hydraulics fail the kill switch will still do its job.

I rode my XSR700 with an overpriced Corbin seat that was a bit wider and had the pillion built way up into a pseudo-cowl to hold my ass on. Swapped to lower/narrower XSR900 bars to tuck myself slightly more forward and used 1" drop pegs because I'm too big for the bike. Every 5-10 minutes I'd switch between jamming my crotch into the gas tank and squeezing the tank grips to take weight off my cheeks, and then push back into the cowl and lean more forward to relieve gooch pressure. I'd sometimes stand up and rest my right knee on the pillion seat (do not fucking do this) when I knew the pavement was in good shape and it typically wasn't a windy area to stretch my legs and relieve my ass entirely.

2 strokes are terrifying to me, every little bit more that I learn about them makes me question how the fuck anyone ever got good at riding them. Unpredictable power and a whole lot of it at once sounds like something better reserved for dirt riding where loss of traction doesn't put you at risk of horrible death inducing highsides. That and the having to rev it the right amount to not weld the piston head into the engine is crazy to me

figured from the XSR with luggage mention lol, I know the classic race screens aren't actually good but it atleast gives you an option to tuck, the MT gives you nothing. I even tried going for a full race tuck but it doesn't do anything.
But I imagine being a big guy helped reduce how bad the wind is in that position since your weight is helping you stay in place

Was it because they were just fucking based for squids to handle them or what?
My buddy who grew up in the 80s and was into motorcycles then said gixxers were squid bikes back in that time too, guess it hasn't changed much. Except it used to be cut off jean shorts, tank top, backwards hat, and bleach blonde mullet in that time.
This particular friend also had the original two stroke Kawasaki H2 that he bought new. He sold it in a sudden moment of clarity when he realized he was lucky to survive it's ownership for so long, and cut his losses while he was ahead.

Was riding on my yamaha xv250, and suddenly noticed the shifter pedal sink way down. Was possible to shift up but not down unless I used my hands at a stop (manual transmission heh). Surprisingly the whole thing stayed together till I got home. When I loosened the footrest bolts, I saw this crap. Where the two holes are were the mounting bolts for the foot rest and one of the engine mounts (snapped thing directly on the right) were. I got a replacement engine mount off ebay, but how do I fix this?
Bolts are in okay shape and the nuts that were on the back of the bracket are too.

Pic 2/ a few others.
Here's the view of the nuts. The one with the bit of metal attached matches the hole on the bottom in the first pic.

Order runs like this - screw cap, washer, rubber gasket, cast footrest, rubber gasket, shifter bracket, motor mount bracket, broken metal in pic above, and spot welded (?) nut in the back.

There's a few mm's of a gap between the actual structural frame of the bike and that inverted U thing that was welded onto it.
i was thinking of buying a 1 inch wide steel sheet metal that could slip under the existing piece but no idea how to rig deez nuts there. Any gaps I'd fill with epoxy.
Ideally would try to /diy/ but on the other hand not sure if it would be fine as a load bearing member.
If I take it to the shop, how much would actually welding this properly run me?

I'm not sure man, VFR is pretty based honestly. 6th Gen would be cool, I really like those. I like kiwianon's solid white VFR.

>>28039635
This still happens sometimes with electronic systems, because the secondary throttle plate are electric. Sensors can be out of adjustment. Luckily though, Suzuki was based enough to give you the specs for the tps in the service manual (you did pirate a PDF of the esm, right anon?). Just back probe the tps connector with a multimeter and adjust the tps until the voltage is in spec. No need to pay dealership fees for scanning the bike if it had fly by wire.

>>28039622
Then tell me anon, why does my 750 have two power modes AND cable throttle?
>>
>>28039437
A talented welder might be able to weld it back together. Take that piece and picture of the bike to a welding shop and ask them if they can do it.
Is that the frame that it snapped off of?
>>
>>28039654
>why does my 750 have two power modes AND cable throttle?
dual throttle valves. any modern engine control strategy would not let the user control manifold pressure directly
>>
>>28039666
Yes, and it also retards ignition timing. My zx14 is the same way. Cable throttle and two power modes.
>>
>>28039671
>Cable throttle and two power modes.
You keep saying that like you have absolute control over map at all rpm. That's not how it works. The secondary electronically controlled throttles have the final say, you may only make a torque request.
>>
>>28039671
Also the only strategies that retard ignition timing are engine speed limiters and intake air temp compensation. You wouldn't retard ignition during normal operating conditions just because the user wants a more gentle throttle response it would waste fuel and could never get past euro 4 even.

>>
>>28039699
Honestly tempting. I ride in cold weather so fullfaces fog up RETARDEDLY fast. Separating eye-air from breath-air might be good for that.
>>
>>28039690
No, I keep saying it like it has two power modes and a cable throttle, don't move the goal post. Secondary electronic throttle plates have been a thing for a long time, I'm not denying that, but with cable throttle, you absolutely have more control than fly by wire.
>You wouldn't retard ignition during normal operating conditions just because the user wants a more gentle throttle response
No, but you would limit the ignition timing advance curve as the engine climbs through the rev range, which kills power very easily.
>>
>>28039705
>Secondary electronic throttle plates have been a thing for a long time, I'm not denying that, but with cable throttle, you absolutely have more control than fly by wire.
right...but your bikes "cable throttle" is actually not the final say in how much the secondary throttles open. the reason you dont get the final say in throttle application is because suzuki and kawasaki knows you would just go WOT and stall the air resulting in poor cylinder filling. Thats why they let you just make a torque request.
>which kills power very easily.
you dont grenade hundreds of engines and rig up millions of dollars worth of test equipment chasing MBT just to run a retarded timing map for when the user is feeling lazy
>>
>>28039720
I see what you mean, and yes you are correct. However, cable throttle still feels smoother and snappier than fly by wire, which is the point I was making.
As for the ignition timing, you know I'm not saying that it's running negative timing right? Just that it pulls back timing advance throughout the overall curve? As in, B mode is going to have a lower overall advance curve than A mode.
>>
>>28039703
Its nice for airflow on hot days or offroading.
If you want to eliminate the fogging get a pinlock.
My other helmet has one and I never even think about fog anymore.
The arai fogs up really fast.

>>
>>28039736
>B mode is going to have a lower overall advance curve than A mode.
Without electronic throttle control yes you would implement ignition retard strategies to reduce power but it wastes fuel and it's not what the oems implement. Its easier to just control the manifold pressure electronically. The whole issue is not stalling the air with an engine that can operate between 1000-15,000 rpm. You can't just go wide open throttle at lower rpms, no amount of ignition advance or fueling would keep it running. There has to be restrictions on how far the throttle can move especially at low rpm.

On my old shitbike, whenever I try to shift down from 1st or up from the top gear, the shift lever offers no resistance, it feels like I'm trying to shift into the void — and it makes total sense since there's literally nothing to shift into.
On more modern bikes that I rode, I hit a hard stop trying to do the same. It feels jarring when bike tells me "nuh-uh, you aren't allowed to do that". And it's simply unpleasant when your foot hits a hard stop.

it's a sliding scale in my opinion, based on a few things like
>type of bike
>purpose of bike (off-road, touring, track etc)
>previous owner
>parts availability
>complexity of systems on the bike (liquid cooling, older air aided suspension etc)
>what you're looking for (daily, first bike, etc)
for example a guy looking for a first bike who wants a used sport bike to daily may want something post 2004 with less than 20k miles

I'm a firm believer now that you can find the greatness in any bike if you look for it. You just have to be willing to look for that greatness.

When I got my bike, I lamented in this thread that I should have got the KLR 650 that I was offered previously for cheaper. Then I rode it some, got it to redline, took it on an adventure, after mile 150 of owning it, I started to love it when I found the things I could do with it that I couldn't do with a KLR. And I realized that if I got the KLR, I'd have a long, uphill battle with a lot of the things I was wanting to do with it like dual sporting.
>>
>>28039665
It's not the main engine cradle part of the frame, it's like a П shaped thing that's welded on top of it. Idk if it can be fixed or needs to be refabricated.

I'll try to get a quote, but idk if it's worth it, the bike has had a rough life. It's basically a rescue lol, used to be part of an MSF course down in Virginia for most of its life. Bought it during the coof for 1800 off a guy who was basically a reseller

Some old harley bros, like the 80 year old ones who have been riding since the 60's, once said that the key to parking a bike outside is to make it look like a real piece of shit.
so put a cover over it that is covered in dirt, has duct tape patches on it with some hand-sewing. put an old oil pan under it with a little bit of used oil in the bottom, deflate the tires a little, and keep a red shop rag on the cover that's stained and dirty.
