Only this is not the original British Ilford, but the Swiss (IIRC) trademark troll Ilford that snatched the rights to market color materials under Ilford brand. That's why we have "Harman Phoenix" and not "Ilford Phoenix".
The not-Ilford sells Ilfocolor film, I even kind of like it after shooting two rolls desu, just not at the price. And obviously they didn't coat it themselves; some say it's repackaged NC500. Which I also kind of like (would, if it was cheaper), but I didn't compare the two directly.

UsedPhotoPro, on ebay. They're part of Robert's Photo. They're out of Indianapolis and they have a brick and mortar store that's fucking awesome.

They do so much ebay they have bins of stuff in their brick and mortar that don't go on ebay, they have batteries, straps, filters, all the little shit you need for the camera but not the camera or lens itself, although now they have a 20 dollar body section and a 15 dollar lens section. I scored three batteries for my D4 for like 20 bucks a piece.

Their ebay store is a regular used camera store, and they have good shit cheap. If you find yourself near Indy though, you owe it to yourself to visit. Their brick and mortar has a 14 day return policy, no questions asked.
>>
>>4464330

Almost forgot, you can buy on ebay and pick up in their brick and mortar store in Indy, I've bought stuff on ebay from within their store and had them bring it out lol. Bought my Beseler Topcon Super D that way.

Skin tones look ugly when using raw conversion on an Adobe profile instead of camera matching profiles. If someone says "skin tones are x color" etc you expect it to not be correctable by white balance as it'll push the rest of the image to opposite complementary colour.

Tl;dr Adobe profiles are weirdly bad

To add, ET-8500 (650 Euro right now) costs in the same ballpark as cheaper pigment ink printers (Epson P700 is 750 Euro), and I think pigment ink may actually have a point, because dye prints seem relatively delicate.
>>
>>4462642
Well, I have been following the instructions from the fat Englishman, and using Epson's print utility, and using supported Epson paper, etc, etc. I guess I should get to calibrating the screen, but I'm not holding my breath, because my issue is more about how shadows/blacks feel in paper vs the screen.
>>
>>4463349
You can convert an ecotank to pigment ink, never done it myself though. Just get it framed and/or laminated and keep it out of sunlight if you want it to last.
>>
>>4459667
Haha, with Epson Print Layout, this printer's default setting (aka "printer manages color") is "perceptual" (or at least it can decide to choose it) and sometimes it would just invent colors.
>>

Another fun fact: Epson 10x15 paper is 4x6 inches; Hahnemuhle 10x15 paper is 100x150mm.

Been digging around online trying to figure out how to get that K64 look (big, punchy, saturated, picrel), but found basically nothing. Everyone either goes for K25 or just completely misses the saturation.

Not trying to do a perfect emulation or anything, I just want those insane saturated skin tones and deep blues, but every time I try, the edit falls apart. Feels like Lr/Ps just can’t push it far enough, like the digital files don’t have the room. Which makes no sense, since I’ve got a gallery full of scanned film that pulls it off.

Anyone here actually manage to get close? Or is it just a lost cause with digital?

Anyway, dumping a few Shorpy rips.

Here is a crop from an 8x10 negative I took.
The crop is around 1/3rd the size of a 35mm negative. Theres roughly 180x more film area on the entire image. Scanned on a shitty epson flatbed. I think I took it at f22 or f32. Foma100 and pyrocat MC.

Big film is crazy.

Picrel is not mine, but a Pentax SMC-M 35mm F1.4 that nobody has ever been able to document in the wild, but one forum posts alludes to someone holding one at one point and packaging being sold on ebay 2 decades ago. My rarest lens is probably the Fuji EBC-W Fujinon-W 35mm f1.9, nothing spectacular in terms of value, but hard to find.

Summer of getting shit done edition

All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

Interesting.
Nikon hasn't done anything with Red other than add a zmount to the komodo line and restructure Reds pipeline, for example, Komodo used to be made in USA now it's made in Mexico and it doesn't ship with a battery or power connector for the DC adapter. I wonder if Canon just wants Arri in their profile and restructure like Nikon did.

Since nikon's purchase of red, their legitimacy in the video world has gone up by a lot. Them buying red is probably indicative of how serious they're taking video as opposed to the reason they're being taken seriously now, but their cheap camera footage looks kind of incredible these days (even if the bitrate still makes it impractical imo) and I assume that's got to have something to do with the luts red released for nlog.
I doubt they'd do it for no reason or with no plan. I assume they have something big coming and don't want to announce/release anything prematurely. If I was a betting man, I'd guess that they probably have about 4 cameras coming soon:
>big cinema camera - successor to the raptor
>smaller production camera in response to the canon c80 and sony fx3 (and maybe a bigger version of the same camera, like the c400 and fx6) - an 8k beast that uses a sensor similar to the one from the raptor or monstro (I guess this would technically a successor to the komodo)
>new flagship mlc - successor to the z6iii with a better sensor and new menus/ergonomics
>komodo in an mlc body for a cheaper price
I think the least likely of the above to happen is a successor to the raptor since the demand just isn't there. Red went under because sony effectively ate their marketshare as the alternative to arri. So launching another expensive camera in that region would probably lose money. But it might be worth it just to save face and keep their presence alive since big filmmakers still use them.

>m.zuiko 50-200 f/2.8 coming sep 10th
>it's huge and white
Well ok I guess. I'd rather have a lighter and smaller 50-200 f/4 like the Panny. I use the 40-150 2.8 with a 1.4x for this but the whole setup is way bigger and heavier than the Panny. (No sealing is a no go for me, I frequently shoot close to or on the ground and water.) I bet this stupid thing will be close to or over 2kg. At least it appears to have IS.
>>
Just how many X0-Y00 zooms an average birdfag needs?
>>
>>4464232
To be fair it's weird Oly makes so many 80-300 equivalents and not a single 100-400 equivalent, a standard zoom range for birds. It's also weird to me we don't have a nicer 150-600 equivalent, they're all plastic and soft and slow at the long end.

It depends on the purpose of the photo. If it's for documentary/journalistic reasons and not just for le artistic reasons, then it's fine, but most faggots that do it are posting it on Instagram or YouTube just for "liek if you cry every tim" reasons.

I've used my IG as an unofficial portfolio to send off for photography companies, but I've never been approached as a result of having one. I'm not sure the algorithm even really works well at promoting people anymore.

Hello /p/, I want to take photos like picrel but have no experience in photography and no camera, I'm willing to spend up to around €1,000 but would rather cheaper as I am not wealthy, anything in the 400-500 range is a nice amount for me. What camera/specs do I need? Any lenses? I know photography terminology as I've experience with 3dcg and they seem to use the same terms there, as well as a bit of experience in just using the pro mode of my phone camera.

Absolutely not.

Get a D3300 (or higher)
or a D5200 (or higher)
or a D7100 (or higher)
or go full frame with a D600

All can be had for about 200 bucks, if you just pay attention.
For the APS-C cameras start with a 18-200mm or 18-105mm.
For full frame, get a 24-85mm f3.5-4.5G, or just a 50mm f1.8. The zoom is versatile, but not the sharpest/fastest (brightest, in this context). The 50mm is very sharp and fast (bright), but locks you to a 50mm focal length. Both are cheap.
>>
>>4464068
>>4461844
18-55mm is also a good option (typical kit lens) for APS-C

Can confirm.
