AND THE HEARTS GO MARCHING ON
Scottishbros, do you guys know Ian Cathro? He is the coach of Portuguese team Estoril. He is very liked and respected in Portugal for being the best British speaker of the Portuguese language. Seriously, he speaks always flawlessly, the way he pronnounces and builds sentences is spot on. Usually, the only foreigners who speak Portuguese as well as he does are Eastern Europeans, but he almost passes as a native. And Brits usually speak Portuguese in a very funny way, can't shake their accent.Hope he has a good career. The only other fellow who speaks Portuguese as well as he does, or at least seemed to, was that guy from Violet Femmes, but he is American.
>>152977903Flopped at hearts
>>152977903He was laughed at while at hearts for the way he went about things. Kris Boyd criticised him for using a laptop in his coaching methods and thus when hearts were beating kilmarnock during a game that season the chant "you're getting fucked by a laptop" was born
>>152977903He didn't do too well at Hearts, he probably got the job too early in his career. Happy to hear he's doing well enough in Portugal

>>152971849Ray Lewis: "They were measuring our height [at the NFL combine] and I was like 6-feet. [Steelers coach] Bill Cowher kinda smiled and was like, 'Hmm, little on the short side.' I smiled back and said, 'Great things come in small packages.' It was classic."Ozzie Newsome, Ravens vice president of player personnel: "[The Browns] were a height-weight-speed team [under Belichick]. We had a height, a weight and a speed that would make you clean. And Ray did not make that height quota."Phil Savage, Ravens director of college scouting: "When we moved and Ozzie was elevated, that was one of the first conversations we had when we were revamping our scouting and player personnel situation. Ultimately, that cap was lifted off of Ray and a number of players who were either short or considered slow for their position. It’s safe to say there is no way to know if Ray Lewis would have become part of the Browns or the Ravens had the move not occurred and the change in leadership taken place."Marvin Lewis, Ravens defensive coordinator: “Scouts are always going to differ because they don’t have a vision of what you’re going to do on game day. There’s a feeling that if a middle linebacker isn’t 6-2 and 250 pounds, they can’t do it. Ray was very short and about 235 pounds."Ozzie Newsome: "I remember Mike [Lombardi, Browns director of player personnel] and I ended up doing the interview with Ray at the combine. We put in the Baylor tape. It was a highlight tape. I think he made every tackle. To sit there and listen to him explain why he was doing what he was doing, his instincts were really amazing. He would say, 'I’ve seen this before so that’s why I was playing that.'"Phil Savage: "Why was he not seen as a top-10 pick? Probably because he didn’t have the ideal measurables. You got to think, this is 20-something years ago, he’s from Miami. He has the earrings. He’s got his demeanor. He was short. It probably scared some teams away."

>>152978473>>152978528https://archive.is/20260113151356/https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2026/01/13/dia-xabi-estallo-salto-aires-sabia-venia-entrenar-guarderia.html“Xabi Alonso was dismissed in January, but the coach had already begun to drift away from Madrid in early November. By then, the rift between the squad and Xabi Alonso was already evident behind closed doors. A growing estrangement that daily life at Valdebebas kept pushing to the limit. Until it finally blew up. ‘I didn’t know I was coming to coach a nursery!’ the coach exclaimed during a training session. It was not the typical warning meant to grab the players’ attention, nor a momentary outburst at work; it was a cry of desperation, of exhaustion, and almost of boredom. Xabi had been irritated for some time because his players were not matching the level of demand he wanted to impose in each and every training session—especially in tactical terms. Long faces, lack of attitude, whispering… until he could take no more and uttered a sentence that marked the beginning of the end. He said out loud what he had been thinking for some time and opened a wound with the squad that would never heal.>Tactical overload and too much informationThe players felt that the training sessions were excessively heavy from a tactical standpoint and also complained about receiving an overwhelming amount of information. Xabi’s overzealousness in tactical work, attention to detail, and constant corrections extended to his assistants, who were also singled out by the players—most notably Sebas Parrilla, his deputy. Having so many people giving instructions and monitoring every detail made the footballers uncomfortable. The day-to-day working environment was poor, and the wear and tear gradually took its toll.
>>152978678Xabi, however, thought exactly the opposite of his players. First the Club World Cup and then a rushed return to competition, with hardly any preseason, left the coach with no margin to work on the footballing ideas he wanted to implement at Real Madrid. In his view, there were many things to change and correct, and he needed every last minute of each training session to impose them on the team. Xabi knew the team was far from what he wanted and that the process had to be accelerated. But that work rate and the assimilation of new concepts clashed head-on with the squad. They were not moving in step, and daily life became increasingly difficult. Xabi was unhappy with his players, and the players were unhappy with Xabi.>Arbeloa’s name in the dressing roomAs if that were not enough, rumors involving Arbeloa began to circulate in the dressing room. The name of the man who months later would become Real Madrid’s new head coach started to be viewed by the players as a possible solution. Arbeloa became increasingly present around the first team, either because the club was already floating his name to test the waters or because the players themselves had taken note of the coach, who, as Castilla manager, was a regular presence at first-team training sessions.Amid all this tension came the results crisis. Madrid lost what little stability it still had, and the crisis kept growing. It is true that when things turned sour, the squad pulled together to try to get through the situation and avoid Xabi’s dismissal, but something had already broken. Doubts and unrest within the squad spread to the club’s upper echelons, and there was no turning back. The Super Cup was the final straw—but a shout was the beginning of the end.”So that basically confirms what we all suspected then
