SVG might be the best road racer I've ever seen in NASCAR. If given a competitive car, the gap between him and the field is massive. In Xfinity, barring crash dmg or other issues, there's just no way he won't win. It's not just that he's fast, it's the way he navigates traffic and sets up passes, it's just different. He's passing guys in places nobody else makes passes. I think he'll need to be perfect tomorrow cuz the 16 is a Kaulig shitbox, but I imagine he'll be in a Trackhouse car next year. Absurd talent, that was so much fun to watch today.

One thing they mentioned about the hybrid system that I thought was odd was that they completely removed the reverse gear and now use the electric motor for reversing the car. Which is good I guess... they won't have to waste so much time trying to "get it into" that gear, which was always a crapshoot. But as we saw when Siegel went off course and stalled (in warmup I think): refiring the engine took up most of the charge that was left, and he didn't have enough energy to actually reverse more than a couple feet. It ended up being enough in that situation, but I wonder what the solution is. Could he maybe have left it in neutral and revved the engine to charge the battery, and then reversed?

Oval racing is a really subtle thing and it is really, really easy to over simplify, but once you do get it and you can kind of keep up with what is going on, it can be pretty fun. Another thing to keep in mind is that some tracks work better for some series than others and some races are just crap form one year to the next. But when you run so many races, they can't all be bangers. No matter what, the threads are usually pretty comfy, so there is always that. It might not be for you, but I'm sure glad I got into it because pretty much no matter what else is on the schedule I know I can usually count on NASCAR to be running.
