Fine for Van Gils

The UCI has fined Van Gils. It ruled that he exhibited “improper conduct” by throwing a shoulder punch that endangered others. Van Gils is fined 1,500 Swiss Francs (1,530 euros). He must also drop sixty points in the UCI ranking.

Holy shit Jonas is going to absolutely destroy pogacar on this. He's going to gain like 5 minutes easily
>>

>>
Prove me wrong:

Vinge knows that pog will switch to the defensive. He will ATTACK on this next stage with a force previously unknown to man, create a 2-3 minute gap. And make POG attack on the remaining stages, where he can just wheelsuck. It’s the correct strategy

Alcohol is ineffective on glue. Acetone is very effective but also very corrosive. I recommend cleaners based on aliphatic compounds, like those for chains or rust removers.

Gonna do my blogpost cause no one responded to me :). Road to the highest point on the east coast today. I felt horrible at the end, the last little climb that was like 50m killed me. Probably too much beer and not enough water. The power is only an estimate from strava as j lost my power meter battery door and stages is bankrupt rip. Long descent still fuck my neck and back. Most of the climb isn't bad like 3 or 4% except for the 6 miles. Those 2 uphill segments after the summit also wreck you a bit. I live at sea level and could feel the elevation even though it really wasn't much

On French tv tonight : La Grande Boucle
>François Nouel, a bicycle salesman who has always been passionate about the Tour de France, loses everything he holds most dear in a short time. Tired of his all-consuming passion for cycling, his wife Sylvie leaves him.... He then decides to do the big loop alone, completing each stage one day before the official race. Arte is the weirdest fucking channel
Like yes they will broadcast the indiest fucking Tajik movies as well as documentaries on how women refugees are dealing with their periods while fighting racism and the news segments are always only about climate change and anti-semitism, so you'd think "ah ok I get it, I get what Arte is about"

And then they will also broadcast kino old western movies full of sexism and Indians played by white actors or truly good documentary series like the one about the Opium Wars or the one about Magellan voyages (you'd think Arte would hate anything colonialism related) with magnificent artworks https://educ.arte.tv/program/l-incroyable-periple-de-magellan-le-partage-du-monde

My stance with Arte is basically "95% chance it's gonna be shit but gonna check what's playing just in case because it could be gold"

I work an office job, but I used to play vidya 10 hours a day so its not the screen time. I even feel like I dont look like the same person, just like Pogi hardly looks like himself here.
Wonder what causes this. Hopelessness, maybe?

Full report of the bike fitting:

Show up, he watches me pedal for a few minutes from different angles, different positions on the bars, and different cadences/powers
>Did you set this bike up or did you have it fitted when you bought it?
>I set it up
>Well you did a good job because there's honestly not much to adjust but there's some low hanging fruit
Spent about 10 minutes doing range of motion/flexibility checks and discussing issues I felt like I had. My main problems were saddle sore on left and feeling like my right hip was always swinging wildly and not stable. I wasn't sure if I had a leg length discrepancy so we did some measurements and tests and he said it looked functional since at rest position my right leg was about 1cm shorter than left but once he loosened it up and stretched they were even.

So you are saying he loosened you and stretched you and your leg suddenly became 1 cm longer?

I had paid for some custom insoles so we spent a few minutes doing those which was pretty straightforward.

Rest of the fitting was motion cap of me pedaling with little adjustments being made. He ended up bringing my cleats back almost a cm, 25mm lower saddle, 25mm farther forward saddle, brought my saddle to about neutral (it was tilted down a couple degrees). He said my handlebar position looked good but to do a few weeks of riding and see how I felt and then come back for a "free" tuneup.

He showed video of me riding from the beginning versus the end and because difference is that my pelvis did not tilt or rock at all after the fitting. I also kept my ass firmly planted in roughly same place no matter which position (hoods/aero/drops/bars) versus constantly shifting.

Was it wildly overpriced? Yes. Do I think he made some worthwhile adjustments? TBD, but feels more stable already.

The past 5+ years have been a joy to watch cycling, compared to the past - because of guys like pogy, van aert, vdp, evenepoel. They not only make it fun they also pull other riders up to do the same.

How often do you eat at these places? Probably twice a year for me. Had a Subway a few weeks ago. €9.50 for a texmex footlong. Not bad.

If anything UAE is trying to control Tour thru a mountain train this year. They can shred Visma domestiques but it really doesn't matter, Jonas can follow every move Tadej makes.

At this point, UAE should shred Visma team to isolate Jonas and then force Jonas to attack solo. They'll never do it tho because Tadej is so belligerent and simply cannot be a reactive rider

There are three times where all but one rider are from the same nation. This seems statistically improbable, is there a reason for this? Example:
>>
>>142696525
>This seems statistically improbable
Only if you assume nationality distribution among teams and skill distribution among nationalities is uniform, neither of which are true. Uno-X has 30 riders of which 23 are Norwegian and the rest are Danish.
>>
>>142694790
Doubt. If UAE is smart they put the onus on jonas to actually do something besides follow tadejs wheel. If tadej goes alone on tourmelet there is no chance he will make it to the end without jonas catching up, and this time that will probably end with him getting dropped. Let the break go, make visma "pull" and then use yates as a sacrifice when jonas attacks. Can jonas really ride away from a big group? I guess these climbs are steep enough, but somehow I have my doubts

By the way the other day I was wondering has the tour even been around our mountains in the recent years ?
Seems to me they often go through the plain but we have plenty kino cols around the Espinouse and Haut-Languedoc

I know they do the Cévennes sometimes but looks like rarely the mountains in the west
>>

now I will go ride to the hills my berts

Taken in winter so not as green as it usually is, also it's Mediterranean climate here until you reach 1000+ altitudes so it's scruby
But pic rel you also have much more lush places, this area has a wide variety of geology and micro-climates

You start a road at sea level and it's dry af then you reach plateaux and you have cows, green pastures and mossy trees

>>142700823

I second that it has its charm. Bonus point for the higher rate of sunshine too, when it comes for riding and the outdoors in general

I love the Alps as well as Slovenia which I've visited but they have become the default standard beauty

When you look around the scrubs they hide animals, birds, plants and insects you won't fine anywhere else in France and I know this is cyc and not some biology thread but it's interesting to me

And as I said it's got a wide range of landscapes. Pic rel is not far there are lovely rides through canyons

In an exclusive and also rather worrying story, Escape Collective reveals that at least three teams, including the Visma | Lease a Bike, UAE Team Emirates and Israel - Premier Tech have access to an expensive device called a carbon monoxide rebreather, which allows for the precise dosing of carbon monoxide into the lungs. But it may have another use. To cheat doping.

An agressive approach called carbon monoxide inhalation steps into the scientifically new and much riskier realm of inhaling the lightly poisonous gas (carbon monoxide) for the express purpose of performance enhancement. A growing body of recent scientific research suggests CO inhalation can have a powerful impact on measures of aerobic capacity like VO2max, or maximal oxygen uptake.

The technique is not banned by WADA, although it appears to conflict with the agency’s rules around artificial manipulation of the blood. Currently, there is no hard evidence that any WorldTeams are using CO inhalation for performance gains. However it doesn't take long for conspiracies about the practice already being used for a long time now.

"I think that fine and punishment are quite exaggerated," says Van Gils. "It is the heaviest sanction that has been given so far in this Tour. It's also strange that I get a punishment and he doesn't. If I make a mistake, he definitely made one too."

Van Gils clarifies: "I think he made the mistake of falling asleep in the sprint. Maybe there was a beautiful lady on the sidelines or something? He's totally gone off track and ruining our day too. It's more his fault than mine.Of course it's a shame that he falls, you don't wish that on anyone. But you also have to be able to look in the mirror yourself and say: I was wrong too."

They are the official administrative regions so yeah they are absolutely used on a governmental level
When it comes to people they will identify with their departement or historical province

Wine is yet another thing entirely there's too much density and diversity to market wine as coming from one of these big regions

The more popular the sport the more impact looks will have for women (esp. for gaining sponsorships).

You even see this in men's sports, where the biggest earners aren't necessarily the best performers. Being marketable has very high impact.

In female cycling the best way to earn money is still to win big races.

all the really fast ppl around me are people that work as lawyers, engineers, some sort of healthcare professional, dentists, bureaucrats, etc with families that all went to Ivy league uni that work long hours and somehow put in 15-20 hours a week on top of that
people that are into like X-biking, 'adventure biking' are always smelly losers
