week 2 when matchups by record start is when nabatame will finally get to face off against others as weak as he is, he might rack up a few wins there, maybe even enough to not fall so far down the makushita rankings that a return in one basho is impossible for him.

second week is when he finishes off his carousel of the higher rankers
>>
>>142871482
He changed his tactics to a more forward moving attack. In January and since he had been just standing up at the tachiai and trying to use his overall size and strength advantage to stop his opponents and then throw them or force them out, but in March and May he figured out that it requires knees to do that, so now his tachiai includes more forward movement and he has been using that momentum to carry his opponents out in a lot of his matches so far. Doing that prevents the possibility of someone like Onosato forcing him back and shoving him out, but it leaves him open to henkas and other sidestep maneuvers, someone is going to catch on that eventually, Hoshitryu will for sure, Abi might too.

Could very well be imo. But the strikes / shutdowns tonight have what looks like the Sumo Association's kanji as the ones who pulled them.
>>
>>142877029
After HoSHITryu beats him tonight, kiriSHITma will be in the position of needing to win 7 of his last 8 bouts and those bouts will include all his most difficult opponents. If he was 5-1 or 6-0 going into tonight then he'd be something like a 50-50 shot. As it currently stands its pretty much over for him, his best possible result is probably making it to KK and holding on to his current sekiwake rank then working out like a demon for the next 8 weeks and hoping to start a new ozeki promotion campaign. he doesn't seem like he has much injuries bothering him anymore, be he needs to add about 20kg of muscle to himself if he wants to be ozeki material.

If he were 5-1 or 6-0 I wouldn't consider it even a chance, I would say he had guaranteed he is in 10 win form. In what world does Kirishima start 5-1 in this basho and put up less than 10 wins? The one example of him starting 5-1 or better and getting less than 10 wins in a basho in his career was September 2021.

>most of those schedules had him facing a weak schedule ... weak competition is how he got his ozeki rank to begin with
Bullshit. Not counting fusen, Kirishima was 14-5 against sanyaku in the 3 basho prior to promotion. That's 19 of his 43 matches in that time which were against sanyaku.

Regardless, the content of the schedules has nothing to do with him being "50-50" to get 10 wins after a 5-1 start, that's ludicrous. 5-1 pace is 12.5 wins in 15 bouts and 4-2 pace is 10 wins in 15 bouts. Even if we assume he's unlikely to keep pace through later matches, that theoretical loss rate is not so extreme as to equate to automatically knocking off more than one full win.

You could try recording it if you're tech-savvy. Open up the inspect element screen on your browser (in Firefox it's F12). Go over to Network and select Media on the right. Open the stream up. The first thing you get will be the stream link (picrel). Right click and copy the link. Then open a terminal/command prompt and give the link to yt-dlp. yt-dlp will download the stream live.

Tobizaru should've kicked the leg to make the yusho more interesting.
>>
>>142890235
Also it makes more sense as a test of recovery. An opponent like Onokatsu is going to require Takerufujis full power, if he can't pull it out then for sure he needs more recovery time and the loss is irrelevant at that point.
>>
>>142889850
Terunofuji hasn't faced anyone tough yet, Gonoyama has been his best competition so far. Week 2 will be a disaster for Teru and he will end up with a JY, the top 3 of the contenders will all beat him, so will Onosato and maybe HoSHITryu too. His only hope is the banzuke committee allowing him to dodge all the best contenders.

>>142889869
Chiyoshoma hasn't lost yet, he will end up doing well enough to stay in makuuchi. Atamifuji is nearly done with the roughest part of his schedule, KK or close is where he will end up, same goes for Gonoyama. Atamifuji was 2-5 going into day 8 in May too, ended up at 7-8 and he is stronger looking now than he was then. Terunofuji is lucky they're in the same stable, Atamifuji would own Teru if they faced off in basho match.

If he drops to ozekiwake for September and then fails to get it back, I could see him retiring. He can secure a share and focus on getting healthy. He's popular enough in Japan that he should have no problem with recruiting and securing funds for stable development.

They wouldn't schedule bouts for already absent wrestlers in advance, so it's more likely he said he was ready and the matchmaking committee made that match specifically to say fuck you.

NHK in Japan has two feeds for their broadcast, the "G" and the "E" or "H"... you an start your show on the "E" but midway through when the plot starts to get good you get a message floating on your screen saying that NHK is switching the feed of your show to the "E" or "H" feed, so you have to switch over there to finish to show... They do give you about a 5-minute warning though.

I want to take this time to point out how much I really like this shot. It really makes it feel like Teru is the final boss of sumo. Even though he's been absent for a lot of the time this intro has been running, it really drives home the point this basho.
Also, I fucking hate how Onosato doesn't have his arms crossed in the intro, like they couldn't get a good picture for him. He's just standing there like a retard with that serial killer look on his face. It really sticks out like a sore thumb in the intro, and prevents me from enjoying this scene in all its glory.

>In sumo wrestling, morning practice is usually held early in the morning, but Nakamura, who is keen to tackle things outside of the box, has come up with a policy that does not focus on time. On the 18th, he plans to have two sessions, one in the morning to train agility and core strength, and one in sumo wrestling, in the afternoon.
>It is customary for wrestlers to eat twice a day, once at lunch and once at night after morning practice, but Oyakata Nakamura has breakfast at 7am, so he has three meals a day. Regarding practice after lunch, stablemaster Tomokaze says, "I don't feel the need to be tied down to practice hours. How do you think about the time you can use with leeway? Some people use it for treatment, and others for training. That's where the difference between those who become stronger comes in."
>For starters, practice began at 3:30 in the afternoon, when most rikishi in sumo are awakening from their gluttonous lunch coma.
>Called to order by the stable's heyagashira, M-16 Tomokaze, the rikishi wrestled from the four-hand position (man-to-man--yotsu zumo) without taking the belt.
>Said the oyakata, "This is to help us learn how to use our bodies. I want to teach them how to attack and defend, be it in striking, re-wrapping, and learning how to employ and swing the head," he explained.
>"They need to develop their ability and learn techniques-- not just practice monotonous wrestling."
>"I am a first-year master and will continue to introduce various things and repeat trial and error," he concluded.

It's a very radical departure from SOP.
For example, really only the Mongolians have ever trained by starting from the clinch (because that's how bökh works) and were noted in the papers for being different for using that as a training strategy.
And breaking the rigidity of training menus and schedules to allow individuals to focus on what they need to improve is something I've never heard of before in sumo.
>>
>>142920384
Sumo seems so backwards and retarded, they could benefit so much from modern training techniques and nutrition. Imagine a bunch of trained body builders heeming people out of the dohyo instead of 500lb Kenhos who can barely walk.
>>
>>142922110
Sumo is redolent with tradition. The life of a rikishi is as much a part of sumo tradition as the bouts themselves.
>>
>>142922110
Think you're clever? Every sumo casual with an easy life has said the same thing, but it is a comment born from ignorance. You do not understand weight and force because you have never done manual labor in your life. You're a bitch. Bodybuilders would get destroyed in sumo. Too small. It's simple physics. Idiot.
>>
>>142922110
Strangely, it's always been this way. People thought sumo had antiquated views 100 years ago. Multiple yokozuna have died from appendicitis while active because they considered it un-masculine to seek medical attention for pain while being a "strongman"/rikishi.
>>
>>142922110

>The musclebound body of Tochigiyama on the right ought to be taken as a model by today's modern rikishi, whereas Wakahitachi seen on the left has a body like that of Umegatani - one that is too heavy for him and which produces many weaknesses. Indeed his is a body of a bygone age but, with a great deal of effort, it is all too easy to imagine he might redeem himself yet.

Martins Licis, a strongman with sumo 0 training, went to a stable and killed a bunch of lower rank sumo because he's strong and not a useless fat fuck. I would guess more than 80% of sumo have too much fat and not enough muscle. Eating twice a day? That's so fucking retarded.

Unironically if he trained for a couple years with a competent stable he could be a salaried sumo.

Trained technique, not their fucking backwards diet and conditioning you boglim. Also of course someone with no training is going to get fucked up in a sport where colliding heads is normal. He still won.

He's a 320 pound monster on an extreme amount of steroids and he only beat up some young kids. He's an outlier.

Today's final Makushita match was a good long belt battle, Kiryuko ended up prevailing and as a reward he'll be making his juryo debut in September.

Tochninoshin took like 10 years to make Ozeki and he immediately lost it again.

Just being big and strong (in a western way) isn't enough.

Yes, a strongman type with 1-2 years of training can make it to Juryo. But afterwards the guys you're fighting will also be massive. And they also do strength training.

Anons, I can feel an embarrassing lose by Cacakeishō.

Let's see.

How fast do you think Takakeisho's heart beats at rest? How clogged are his arteries? What do you think his blood pressure is?
It's a miracle that he hung on this long with his health problems. It's time to hang up the mawashi.

hes probably fine. he is a professional athlete at the top of his sport. he has a bunch if injuries, thats the only thing wrong with him. all that soiyence about cholesterol clogging arteries is fake, your brain it made out of cholesterol, sissy low cholesterol diets make you low iq because your brain atrophies. arterial cholesterol doesn't originate with dietary cholesterol, arterial cholesterol is vascular scar tissue.

You're forgetting the mongol brotherhood though. I don't see there being any friction behind the scenes.
