“I’m very optimistic at what we have in front of us. We’re starting to put the right pieces in place and I’m absolutely convinced we’re going to be successful.”

He refused to state how long it may take to make United consistent challengers again. “It’s almost impossible to put a timescale to answer that question,” Berrarda said.

"We don’t want to just win one Premier League and then be satisfied. We want to create a team that is capable of competing for the Champions League, for the Premier League and for the domestic cups on a consistent basis."

So far i've been seeing Ole revisionism (missing times when Ole's United could win with silly score like 6-2, 9-0, etc with killer front three's counter attack), Ronaldo revisionism (Ronaldo was right of leaving ten Hag's United), De Gea revisionism (Onana is that bad they even wished the dude who was jobless for 1 year and only now became Fiorentina's 2nd GK to stay) but I'm glad I haven't found Sancho revisionism, he's universally hated.

Like that match was physically embarrassing to sit through. You have a forward who is blatantly a ten hag signing and doesn't look like much of a step up from Hojlund. I don't get it?

>Striker Brad Young has joined the Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah from The New Saints for a record Cymru Premier League fee of about £190,000. Young was Welsh football’s leading scorer last season with 22 goals and has helped TNS to secure a place in the Europa Conference League group stage.

>A club statement read: “The New Saints FC can confirm the permanent transfer of striker Brad Young to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Orobah in a record breaking transfer deal. Last year’s Cymru Premier player of the season and golden boot winner departs Park Hall for a fee of $250,000 (£190,000) with potential future add-ons. The deal is a record for the largest transfer fee received by a club in Welsh domestic football.”

>The TNS head coach, Craig Harrison, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Brad. I think his signing has been beneficial for both parties. He’s done fantastically well for us, and he’s now got another opportunity to try and better himself. Not only that, but the club has also received a really good transfer fee for him so I think it’s a win-win for everybody.”

>Young joins the former Premier League trio Kurt Zouma, Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson and Jean Michaël Seri at Al-Orobah, who have lost their opening two Saudi Pro League games.

BBC article on PFA FC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/clynp5j0pnyo

>The camp is an example of the PFA's attempts to make itself more relevant to current players. In addition to the training aspect, players are given access to the PFA's business school, education and mental health initiatives.

>More than 100 players took part in total, some of whom have already found clubs.

>"The target audience for this camp was not people dropping out of academies," said PFA chief executive Maheta Molango. "This was for more established professionals."

I'm surprised the PFA didn't establish this earlier than it has done. And yes, this is THE Carl Jenkinson.

MAN U SPORTING DIRECTOR INTERVIEW 1/2

Manchester United navigated their first transfer window under the INEOS-powered football operations team this summer. In a Q&A session that Sky Sports News was active in, Ashworth and Berrada explained the new mechanisms.

Led by sporting director Dan Ashworth, who spent his first two months in the job purely focused on recruitment, the club embarked on a total of 32 transactions.

Supported by CEO Omar Berrada, technical director Jason Wilcox, interim director of recruitment Christopher Vivell and manager Erik ten Hag, the club have worked hard to finally sell well, address key positions and operate in a sustainable manner. INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford oversees the process.

What were the main talking points?

Dispelling the notion that Man Utd only buys players Erik ten Hag knows
Removing players that were not considered useful to the club: Sancho, Antony, Amrabat etc
Contracts structured in a way that can deliver value in the short-term and future
Financial rules (PSR) are appreciated and respected

Q: Are you excited over the future?

Berrada: "I can sense it, and I can also speak for myself, which is I'm very excited and very optimistic at what we have in front of us. I think we're starting to put the right pieces in place and I'm absolutely convinced that we're going to be successful."

Q: The club seemed more aggressive with clauses and more willing to soften on valuations, so outgoings could get done?

"It is true that we have been more open to structuring the contracts in a way that can deliver value for us in the short-term, we have done that with practically all of the players who have gone out, from the young ones to the more senior players.

Ashworth: "Sometimes you have to be quite brave and make decisions that maybe you don't want to make, but you can't have a bloated squad.

Q: How long will it take Man Utd to get to Manchester City's comfort position of just slightly tweaking the squad?

Berrada: "I think anybody who has worked in football for a long time could tell you that it's almost impossible to put a timescale to answer that question.

"What I can say is, it has been demonstrated when you look at the teams who have been successful consistently for many years, it's because they have the right coach, they have signed the right players and you need to take good decisions consistently for many years, to get into a position where you are a financially sustainable club that is competing to win every single competition.

"As Dan referenced earlier, we don't want to just win one Premier League and then be satisfied. We want to create a team that is capable of competing for the Champions League, for the Premier League and for domestic cups on a consistent basis. So to build that, we need to be doing more of what we have done in this window.

"I think Dan and the team did a fantastic job in the negotiation process. And the reason I mention that is if you make a mistake and if you overspend or get a player who can cost you too much, it can set you back. There will be some mistakes, it's normal there are certain factors we can't control.

Q: Ten Hag had a lot of power in the old recruitment structure, and it seems that has continued with the incomings this summer?

Ashworth: "I don't know how they've made the decisions on players coming in, and as I've already alluded to, it's a joined-up process: we looked at objective, subjective opinions and come up with the best possible solution we can to fill the positions we have identified.

"It is natural in human nature to work with somebody you've worked with previously in all contexts, in all business contexts. That is a natural sway because you know that person, because you know that player, he'd never worked with Zirkzee - you can't say just because he's Dutch he knows him.
>>

Surely on way more cash than he'd be likely to get from anyone below the C'ship, at least, and gets to see the world a bit, which he probably never figured would happen when he left Villa's academy. >Ivan Toney’s deadline day move to Saudi Arabia could see him land the UK equivalent of £1 million a week after bonuses are included.

>Toney’s four-year deal will land him basic pay of around £400,000 per week after tax. It is understood add-ons and bonuses related to performance would take his salary to towards £500,000 across his contract. To earn the same take-home pay in the UK after tax would need wages close to £1 million per week. [Telegraph]

Elanga is quick, strong and can make a final ball (shot or pass). Never going to be world class but certainly good enough for Man Utd squad and first team/bench role. Another poor decision. Funny enough I think that one is on the fans, he was under a lot of pressure many people excessively criticised and hated him.

Barring an upset Liverpool are expected to beat the next 4 which if they do then Slot would have the most successful Premier League debut beating Pep's 6. Obviously they could bottle it, but on paper they've got the easiest run.
After that its Chelsea which is historically a slurper and then Arsenal. So as far as the League is concerned Slot has an easy run.

Gotta say, there are way too many shitters in the Premier League. We need to go down to 16 team to weed out the chaff. The way to still have 38 games is to take a leaf out of UEFA's book and play additional games but not against every team. Rank the teams into 4 pots of 4 based on the previous season's league position and make a draw for every team to play 2 teams from each pot, one at home and one away, much like the new Champions League format. This is 8 additional games to add to the 30 you normally have in a 16 team competition.

This would make a truly elite Premier League.

>You mean, including in the games where they weren't playing Ipswich?
I wouldn't have thought so. I would imagine it's only for opponents who played Ipswich. Just the three games. I looked at fbref for a quick reference and according to it Liverpool, City, and Fulham generated an xG of 6.8 against Ipswich and Ipswich generated an xG of 1.2. So that's a difference of 5.6 but I've heard people say that different databases or stat checkers or whatever it is, calculates xG differently to one another so that might explain the difference from that original post.
I didn't think Ipswich have played that badly either, other than against City, but like I said, this is just my best guess.

>it's whenever people decide it is.
Reminded me of the whole saga over Russell Martin last year.

>Martin signed a three-year deal when he was appointed Swansea head coach in 2021 but left after two seasons in charge.

>The former Scotland defender took over at St Mary’s Stadium despite the fact that compensation had not been agreed between the Saints and Swansea.

>Martin was understood to have agreed to take the Southampton job in May 2023, but his move was not confirmed until late the following month because of the compensation issues.

>At the centre of the disagreement was whether Southampton, who were relegated in 2022-23, were still a Premier League club when they came in for Martin.

>The timing was key because Martin's Swansea contract featured differing compensation clauses depending on whether a club looking to appoint him were in the top flight or not.

3.delusion to the point where you cant tell if he actually believes what he says

Dave. Liversissy. DSL. Arsewog. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Faggotar kept balance between the Manure Tribes, Bindipper Kingdom, Oil Nation, and African Nomads. But that all changed when the Oil Nation attacked. Only the Faggotar mastered all four plastic styles. Only he could stop the ruthless oilbenders. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Oil Nation is nearing victory in the War. Two years ago, my father and the men of my tribe journeyed to the Bindipper Kingdom to help fight against the Oil Nation, leaving me and my brother to look after our tribe. Some people believe that the Faggotar was never reborn into the African Nomads, and that the cycle is broken. But I haven't lost hope. I still believe that somehow, the Faggotar will return to save /epl/.

Fuck that's a blast from the past. I remember why the height became a meme. So Dave starts absolutely sperging that scousers can't be 6'0 without PEDs because malnourishment and completely refused to acknowledge the extra 4 inches. So everyone just called him a fucking manlet sperg. He stopped trying to force Stephen as reverse Dave after that but everyone kept bringing it up to fuck with him.

I don't remember why we started saying "Stephen and his NOTORIOUSLY thick cock" exactly. But I do remember all the NOTORIOUSLY posting. Fuck that was only like two years ago

So I have not bought a Utd jersey since the Glazers took over, pretty much out of principle (I bought my sons a CR7 strip when he came back, but that's been about it). I love the 3rd strip this year, and happened to be in a large sports store here in Norway buying some back to school stuff for my kids, when I saw the jersey section. Liverpool, City, Arsenal - 1st, 2nd and third strips. They had the United 3rd strip for 50% off... and a *stack* of United jerseys just sitting there while everything else was selling fast. The assisitant said that it had been the same the last few years and next years they wouldn't stock Utd as we are mid table and not top 4 any more - there is no demand.

I figured why not buy the jersey, high on the hope of beating Liverpool in a few days time... and the assisitnt asked what player name/number I'd like. I genuinely couldn't think of any player I like enough to have on my back. I have zero connection to any of the bunch, which made me hugely sad. I opted to have no number on the back for the first time ever for me on a jersey.

My 9 year old son picked a Mbappe/Real jersey as he is more of a player fc fan for Mbappe, and my daughter picked a Bellingham/Real jersey. I was more than a bit gutted. None of my 'but we used to beat them in the CL...' didn't cut it - my kids were born a long time after our golden era. We are a relic to them. Each of them could name a bunch of good players from Liverpool, City and Arsenal, but just struggled to find anything exciting about United and couldn't name any player apart from Bruno, who they recon is now past it! They asked who our top striker was... I was met with blank expressions when I said Hojland and Zirksee.

I realised that then and there, the Glazers job was complete. We have become an irrelevence to the young people today who have not been brought up to follow the club. I real fear for us unless we take hard and drastic action.

NO REFUNDS
>>
>There has been a lot of talk over months now about calendar-related issues.

>The EFL Cup seems to be at a pinch point.

>The third round of this season's competition is having to be played over two weeks due to the first round of matches in the Europa League being played in an "exclusive" European week, beginning on 23 September.

>Yesterday, the EFL confirmed third-round fixture dates but Manchester City's home game with Watford was listed as "TBC".

>This is why: City play Arsenal in a Sky televised game on Sunday, 22 September. The following Saturday they go to Newcastle for a TNT televised game.

>That means the City-Watford game needs to be played on Wednesday, 25 September. Except that is the same day as Manchester United start their Europa League campaign against Dutch side FC Twente.

>I can imagine Greater Manchester Police are not too keen on the idea of dealing with thousands of visiting Dutch fans going to Old Trafford at the same time as City are playing.

>United and City have played home matches on the same day, but it is exceptionally rare, has not happened for a long time and involved low-profile games.

Europa League on a Wednesday. Well that's new.

so literally only foden from your list of players has withdrawn on a regular basis and one of them never has

great point
>>

Watkins has only played 60 minutes a game this season. He’s obviously not fit. Foden has missed the last 2 games. Palmer has played 5 games including a full 90 against Palace the other day.

>Football journalist Mark Ogden discusses England interim manager Lee Carsley on the Football Daily podcast: "The job is his to lose really. If he does well in these games, then it will be his job. I'm not quite sure it's the standard you need to measure, whether he's qualified for the job.

>"Let's be honest, it's Finland, Greece and the Republic of Ireland. But he knows the system and the FA do want someone who is part of the FA system, who has come through the ranks.

>"I just wish the FA got on with it, just give him the job because, not to be brutal here, the England job is no longer the pinnacle of management, it's not.

>"Maybe 20 to 30 years ago, it was all English managers aspired to. It was the one where they would have a good club career, win some trophies and become England manager. That's different now, the pinnacle of the game is the Champions League and the Premier League.

>"But England aren't attracting those coaches. They're not going to get a Pep Guardiola or a Jurgen Klopp."

When did the England job lose its status as the pinnacle of management? I want to say McLaren.

lol have to love how english arrogance is eternal. finland, greece and RoI are all matches england could very conceivably lose.
>>
>>144197858
You think so?

Only Foden has gotten enough call-ups. But now we have your permission to slag Foden off for faking injuries, not sure why you got so upset about it before.

>Do not use the term “cult” in reference to fellow supporters. Warnings and threadbans will occur for any who persist.

They need to cultivate a change in culture with cultrating moderation.

the last bout of friendlies, they lost to iceland, lost to brazil, and drew to belgium. the imperiousness of the FA thinking we just turn up and the opposition'll roll over is a big part of what holds england back

>the imperiousness of the FA thinking we just turn up and the opposition'll roll over is a big part of what holds england back
That is literally integral to the FA and has been since 1872.

>More from journalist Mark Ogden on the "attractiveness" of the England manager role: "It's still attractive, but it's a high or a low every two years. With the Premier League, it's every week. With the Champions League, it's every couple of weeks and you're going to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan. You're facing the best players, on the biggest stage. The Champions League is all the time.

>"With England or internationals, it is every couple of years and I think it's such a long gap. Most of the top managers in the game now are quite young - late 40s, early 50s. They don't want to give it up. They don't want to give up the day-to-day involvement, even Carlo Ancelotti, who is in his 60s now.

>"It's a job that you have to want to be a development guy really, be prepared to spend a long time not coaching and that's the difficulty, it doesn't challenge managers enough.

>"If you could rattle off the names of the top five or six coaches in the football world right now, they're all club coaches and they're not managing international teams."

Who even is the current best international manager? De La Fuente?

No-one's talking about how all the Spurs players pulled out of the England side as well

I've got no hope for England after the last euros. They looked shit even though they got to the final.
Can't be fucked with it any more, just want my league games uninterrupted desu.

I hate international breaks

You only watch English leagues?
I knew your country was cucked but that's a bit much.
>>
>>144197839
It's funny watching this because international football itself is so bad now and the world has collectively lost interest. Everyone hates the international break, and the last euros was some of the worst, most dispiriting football in a generation. But what happens next? Will they just divert resources from it surreptitiously? Maybe make it like the olympics and have it be youth-focused?

>"Mark Bosnich was a terrible professional,'' Ferguson wrote in the book.

>"We played down at Wimbledon and Bosnich was tucking into everything: sandwiches, soups, steaks. He was going through the menu.

>"I told him, `For Christ's sake, Mark, we've got the weight off you. Why are you tucking into all that stuff?'

>"We arrived back in Manchester, and Mark was on mobile phone to a Chinese restaurant to order a takeaway.

>"Is there no end to you?

>"I just couldn't make an impact on him.''

uhhh, based?

any fellow Group A CHADS looking forward to these nations league fixtures?

>I thought he was a good goalkeeper at Villa, Mark Bosnich, but he came to us, he was so unprofessional. Honestly, it was ridiculous.

>In shooting practice you normally take 15-20, after three shots he’s knackered...and I never realised, he couldn’t kick a football. I’d never seen anything like it.

>“We actually played Everton away the first game of the season and none of us picked up on it, he couldn’t reach the halfway line. There was no wind, it was a perfect day.

>“You look at his feet, size 14s, he was just kicking the floor all the time. Honestly, disappointing.”

Didn't he have a massive coke habit on top of all this

Also you'd think that famously cluey SAF would have known he was a fat lazy drug addict that couldn't kick a ball BEFORE signing him

They've been doing it for ages now, there was that time when Harry Redknapp admitted some of his Spurs players would look for excuses to avoid their England duty.

>Onana is good.
>>
>>144197413
Honestly I'm surprised he hasn't. Ten Hag said that his squad wasn't fit enough explicitly due to the Euros/Copa America. Let's not forget that the "individual mistake" Mainoo made on the third goal was excused as him being tired.

Onana’s is good(er than Bosnich)

Williams, Depay, Martial, why can’t one time Man Utd players get a club?
JLingz took half a year and De Gea took an entire year
