When those guys were healthy (usually, twice a year), they were guaranteed to compete for the Basho.

Other than Onosato who can go to the top and have this kind of result?

Mongol sumo are retarded drunks but I like hoshoryu.

apparently he gained some weight, which he needed to do and probably needs to gain more if he wants to match uncle's proportions. and if he doesn't want to match uncle's proportions he is retarded. uncle was a douche, but he was an absolutely dominant wrestler.

>Takakeisho
Just lost his ozeki status and needs 10 wins at sekiwake to get it back
>Wakatakakage
Wrecked his knee and fell down to makushita. Recovered and made it back to makuuchi last basho.
>Asanoyama
Made it back to komosubi before he tore his ACL. Estimated recovery around a year. Plans for one more run.
>Hoshoryu
Made ozeki and won a yusho. Doesn't look poised to make yokozuna any time soon, but not in any danger of losing rank.
>Kotonowaka
Made ozeki and took his grandfather's shikona, Kotozakura. Like Hoshoryu, doesn't look in rope contention but stable.
>Kiribiyama
Won 2 yusho and became ozeki, taking his oyakata's old shikona of Kirishima. Got injured and demoted back to sekiwake. Failed to make 10 wins and needs to make ozeki the old-fashioned way again.
>Terunofuji
Still pulls out most of the time, but when he's healthy enough to make 15 days, he wins the yusho.
>Onosato
Mega amateur prodigy that joined in May of last year at Ms10. Won a yusho this May (fastest ever to win makuuchi yusho from debut) and is on an ozeki run. Needs 12 +- wins this basho.
>Tobizaru
Tobizaru

in juryo:
>Hakuoho
Another amateur prodigy. Started as Ms15, stormed up the ranks and JY'd in his debut at makuuchi, but got injured and floundered in juryo. Looks to be healthy again.
>Takerufuji
Prodigy, but unlike Hakuoho and Onosato, started at JK. Made it to the top division in 9 tournaments, and became the first wrestler in over a century to win the makuuchi yusho in their first appearance. Set the record for fastest makuuchi yusho until Onosato broke it*. Injured his ankle during his record-breaking yusho in March. Sat out of almost 2 bashos to recover, only popping in for 2 matches to maintain his juryo rank. Should be healthy enough to compete again.

Good to be back for another basho. Predicting Onosato to clinch it again this time.

In other news: the audacity of this retard mbovo knows no bounds. It is one thing to simply rebroadcast the NHK's/ Abema's channel, but it is quite pathetic to profiteer off of someone else's IP and then paint yourself as the victim and shame your dumbass channel members into donating to you.

Onosato, Atamifuji, and Roga are the youngsters tipped to go high in the coming years. Also possibly Shirokuma, especially since he's in the same stable as Onosato. Roga suffers from being in a weak stable. Dude just lifts weights all day and fucks off to other stables for bouts.

Glad to see Onosato and Ura pick up day one wins. Hoshoryu got fucking cheated, no way was that a clear cut Takanosho win, on the slow-mo it looked like they touched down at the same time.

Takerufuji Yokozuna run begins NOW
>>
I don't understand Takakeisho. Why didn't he retire last tournament?
If anything, if there is any surgery that could heal him, he should have done it after getting his 8th win in March.

What has he won from competing injured? Aggravating his injury with records of 0-2-13, 5-10? Losing to people he would beat easily if healthy?

What does he gain by jobbing while injured while fighting as a Sekiwake?

He has had a good career. 2nd best rikishi to never make Yokozuna.
>>
>>144302550
His pride won't let him go out like a bitch. He probably wants to prove the doubters wrong by regaining Ozeki before retiring.
>>
>>144300200
Oh shut up, he was manhandled and pushed out easily. Hit the gym, nephew.

Anon please, the days of Akebono, Takanohana, Asashoryu, and Hakuho are gone. You will watch 12-3 Yushos and you will be happy.
>>
>>144304570
If someone is getting 15-0 all the time, doesn't that basically means everyone else is weak?
If anything a Yokozuna getting 12-3 or 23-2 means there are people who can compete with him.
>>
>>144306114
There's no entertainment in an even playing field though. It's best if a couple of guys can rise to the top and become the ones to beat.

One rikishi going 15-0 all the time doesn't mean everyone else is weak; it just means they're a true fuckin Yokozuna. Them crushing is hype. Them losing is also hype. Nobody wants a basho of Takakeishos who go 8-7 every time. YAWN.

He's right, a lot of people call things henkas that aren't, but calling a legpick a henka is incredibly stupid. Opening up that low in the beginning is actually really risky. Nobody is talking about Endo yet, but whatever was ailing him that sent him down to juryo is all better. 10-5 last 'sho, 2-0 currently and well within reach of regaining his slot in the joi.
>>
>>144324550
He ruled it out because he knows he can't beat Onosato in a technical bout either. 'sato is just too large and powerful for most rikishi to beat no matter what they try, so he went for cheap tricks. I bet Terunofuji can't wait for 'sato's 'zuna promotion so he can retire and finally give up a foot to diabetes.

>I could forgive his day one Henka because of how well it was executed and converted into the throw down, but mindgame false starts into YET ANOTHER Henka
Sorry, are you people chastising small rikishi for using tricks now? You expect them to win sumo bouts fair-and-square against men 100 kg heavier than them?
>>
Aonishiki will be in juryo in November. Every time he jumps up in the rankings I wonder if he has finally reached the level where he'll find some competition of equal ability and then he goes 6-1 again.
>>
>>144325035
or he just didn't want to give a guy who weighed 100 pounds more than him the entire ring for free.
>>
>>144324910
Sure, he does seem healthy, but he also hasn't beaten anyone in a long while. His most impressive win this whole year came against an ailing M5 Ryuuden.

If he starts hot, gets a little push and starts fighting well against guys in the top half of the banzuke, maybe we can get back to talking about him being that just-outside-the-joi mainstay that he's been for the past few years.
As for being in the sanyaku conversation, though, that ship has sailed.
>>
>>144325134
He's only an inch shorter than Takakeisho.

>You expect them to win sumo bouts fair-and-square against men 100 kg heavier than them?
Hiradoumi does.
>>
I was looking at some makuuchi rikishi stats and lmao Endo's ring surname is Shota. No wonder middle age women love him.
>>
>>144325233
Not just his ring name. That's his actual name. He's one of the small group of top division wrestlers that fights under their own names.

The others, if I remember correctly, are Shodai, Ura, and Takayasu; while Meisei fights under his given name, not his family name.

"Shota"/"Shotaro" are not only common Japanese names, but literally the origin of the term you're thinking of. Much like "lolita" references the name of a fictional character, so does "shota," in this case the character Shotaro Kaneda from Tetsujin 28.
>>
>>144325413
Who is lolita a reference to? Nabokov's lolita was called Dolores.
>>
>>144325744
"Lolita" is a diminutive for Dolores, like "Jezza" for Jeremy or "Genie" for Eugene, etc.
>>
>>144325805
Humbert spends the book calling her Dolly, only using "lolita" when fantasising. The term seems established prior to the book DESU.
>>
>>144325835
You might be misremembering the book. The word "Lolita" appears in the text well over 200 times, "Dolly" is just under 100. "Lolita" is the very first word of the book, even.
>>
For any Tobizaru defenders, can you please explain why even after the obviously intentional false start he then intentionally gave Onosato a hard shove to the chest? The guy was actually a disgrace today.
>>
>>144326626
My guess would be he was trying to throw Onosato off his game. He can't beat a focused Onosato, but his unpredictable style might have a chance against an angry and unfocused Onosato.
>>

https://youtu.be/St8iEpkcDJc?t=5
>>
>>144326626
I don’t get this “intentional false start” business. Always seemed to me like false starts only benefit the one who wasn’t ready. The fast shooter has to stand up like and apologise to everyone like a mug, while everyone smirks and thinks “he’s a bit keen, isn’t he?”
>>
>>144326795
He thinks he did it to make Onosato think he was definitely going to charge forward at full speed, to make his leg pick more unexpected.
>>
>>144326705
We all know that Tobizaru is no match for an in-form Onosato, but in my eyes that conduct is disgraceful and not what sumo is about. You win inside the bout, not outside of it. What next, is Tobizaru gonna start trash talking people to the media? Would that be okay to throw them off? Hell no, this ain't the UFC, this is honorabru sumo unironically.

Also, that a Maegashira 1 would be scared enough to resort to that really does speak volumes about just how good Onosato is.

>>144326795
Tobizaru's false start was so obvious that an apology meant nothing. Go watch it back, he straight up shoves Onosato in the chest as he does it to try and wind him up because he knows he's about to get bulldozed.

https://youtu.be/koNxp1sY_Xc?si=J8kzDsrOoj07YDkB&t=1641
>>
>>144326795
>The fast shooter has to stand up like and apologise to everyone like a mug, while everyone smirks and thinks “he’s a bit keen, isn’t he?”

Actually both wrestlers have to apologize. The other guy for being too slow.

It's a lot of gamesmanship and shithousery on both ends. They're all trying to mess with the other guy's timing. A lot of false starts are because one guy got really wound up and ready to spring, his opponent notices and simply doesn't put his hands down, the first guy has to charge forward simply to avoid pitching forward onto his face.
>>
>>144326835
>but in my eyes that conduct is disgraceful and not what sumo is about. You win inside the bout, not outside of it

Tobizaru wasn't punished, he was the victim of an unfair match. If you wanted fair matches, you'd find what happened to him bad as well. He was accepted big time by rich celebrities. His retirement event was insane for how many big Japanese names there were. He wasn't accepted by the JSA, and while that lack of acceptance was for very good reasons (when you're a stablemaster, actually looking after your wrestlers is more important than rubbing elbows with rich supporters so you can get a stable built in fucking Ginza), it's also revealing the stark divide between the JSA and Japanese society at large.

He was never going to want that with how important his dad was to him. If he wanted to be as Japanese as you think then he would've given up his Mongolian citizenship to become Japanese far earlier than he actually did, and would've likely been remembered far better after retirement. Instead he only did so after his father passed, which delayed his Japanese citizenship until after he had started getting reprimanded for his behaviour and his injuries, and his desire to stay on as yokozuna until the Olympics was motivated entirely by his father's wrestling history and Olympic medal.

>>
>>144348993
Wasn't he accepted?
The thing about Kisenosato was that he was the underdog trying to bring up a fight against the GOAT. This is always popular.

Think of the Giants beating the Patriots twice.

You know how technically the rikishi don't need to wait for the gyoji to give them the OK to start fighting? What if everyone had an agreement to just go after the first salt throw? And all the bouts in total take less than an hour? Wouldn't that be cool? Also, would it count as match fixing? Do you think they would get into trouble?

Acanthosis nigricans is a medical sign characterised by brown-to-black, poorly defined, velvety hyperpigmentation of the skin.[1] It is usually found in body folds,[2] such as the posterior and lateral folds of the neck, the armpits, groin, navel, forehead and other areas.[1]

It is associated with endocrine dysfunction, especially insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia, as seen in diabetes mellitus

I've heard wind that Onosato's Ozeki discussion starts at 11-4 because he's rising so fast that they'd like to fast track him to Ozeki. At 12 a promotion is likely. At 13 it's all but guaranteed, especially if it comes with a Yusho. Not just new blood at the high ranks, but HONORABRU NIHONJIN BURADDO.

Also what the fuck Atamifuji was completely outclassed. I know Zak is powerful but surely Atamifuji can't be THAT far behind him.
>>
>>144361023
Sumo has probably the most transparent and meritocratic promotion system in any sport in the world and yet you losers constantly allege racist conspiracies against foreigners.
>>
>>144361023
>I've heard wind that Onosato's Ozeki discussion starts at 11-4
No way. Even if he gets a 15-0 next, having an Ozeki run with a 9-6 in it is pretty bad, right? What's the lowest KK that's ever been part of a successful Ozeki run?
>>
>>144361122
There's valid arguments that his 9-6 was because of the sudden flood of media attention his Yusho brought that interfered with his psyche and training, though whether an Ozeki should be suffering from that is another question. I could certainly understand the JSA being desperate for new talent considering the dry spell since Hakuho left and wanting to put their faith into him.
>>
>>144361023
>he's rising so fast that they'd like to fast track him to Ozeki
Sumo has always been the opposite of this. If he's borderline then they will delay him a basho, especially because of how many recent flameouts there have been.

>>
>>144361232
He is the disciple of Kisenosato after all, it's not strange the JSA would show him some favor
>>
>>144361113
> yet you losers constantly allege racist conspiracies against foreigners.
Yep, losers are prone to seeing conspiracies around every corner because they're inferior people who are incapable of admitting that they play any part in their own conditions. They're always losing and always blaming everyone but themselves, which is what keeps them as losers and prevents them from engaging in the self improvement they sorely need to dig themselves out of the holes they've driven themselves into. Chris is a fine example of this, he was born into the British upper crust and failed to establish himself, fled the country in shame and now is in Japan screeching constantly about his perceived, but completely fictitious and imaginary bias crimes.

Onosato's run so far has been stellar, of the 25 wins he has put up, 2 are against yokozuna, 4 against ozeki and large amount of the remainder are against other sanyaku. And before anyone starts in with
>b-b-but he lost to an m4
they don't care about the losses, its only the wins that factored.
Its doesn't looks like he is going to the favor of getting promoted with 32 wins anyway, he is 4-0 so he only needs 8-3 in his remaining bouts to get to 33.
>>
>4 wins
Kotozakura
Kirishima
Onosato
Shodai

>3 wins
Hiradoumi
Wakatakakage
Churanoumi
Endo
Nishikigi
Takarafuji

Personally I think Onosato will probably take the Yusho, although I would much prefer it if Kotozakura won.

>having an Ozeki run with a 9-6 in it is pretty bad, right?

>>
>>144363031

I dunno, Hakuho turned out pretty okay.
Out of the 32 successful ozeki runs in the Heisei and Reiwa eras (both of Teru's counted separately of coruse), 12 of them had a 9-6 or 8-7 somewhere in them, including 3 of the 10 yokozuna (4 if you count Teru's first run).

>>144363166
