They're adding extra races to most weekends next year, right? I copied the 2025 schedule from the Wikipedia page, so I'm going by that... this look correct? I might have some of the days wrong, since I guessed for a lot.

Great news, but it got me thinking: Why is hybrid failing at so many categories?
>>
>>145647185
Because it was pushed by manufacturer lobby into categories/championships where price is a huge factor yet the hybrid doesnt have that much of an advantage (btcc, wec, shittycar)
If you look at where it is a success story, it's F1 (where price is a non issue) and endurance racing (where hybrid has a very big and clear advantage)

where the prices skyrocketed so much that a only toyota stuck around for years until imsa came up with a rule set that allowed manufactures to slap their stickers into an lmp2, plug a battery (which nobody notices it's there until it fails) and call it a day, the only thing where hybrid has succeeded in is turning racing into a science fair
>>
>>145647185
>Why is hybrid failing at so many categories?
Because it doesn't really help with going fast. It's primary use is to extend a vehicle's range and when you regulate it so that everyone is equal, it's meaningless. It also adds a stupendous amount of weight, complexity and most importantly, expense to where

The only advantage is really the front wheel deployment over 60% of the track. Otherwise it's just added weight, complexity and expense.

At first you are writing its advantage is extending range, then you proceed to say that its not really any use in endurance racing.
Since the introduction of the first audi e-ton lmp non hybrid wins basically immediately became nearly extinct
The only thing gaben martin will kill next season will be a few million dollars from gabens bank account, they will have maybe a sprint win in imsa by being bopped up so imsa can spin the story for publicity

They strictly regulate the stint energy. If they did something like say all the cars have X gallons of chemical fuel but hybrids get to use that system to do more laps between stops, that would make sense. It might even make up for the weight. But as it is, there is no range advantage.

So all I have to do to watch Macau this year is wake up on sat/sun, open the english youtube stream and skip to the races I want to see? Love how this gets more and more convenient with every passing year.
But is there a reason for why they're running so few races this year? I think we're missing at least another asian TCR race and one for random shitboxes this year

Thank you frens for explaining it to me. I knew it had to do with cost, but I didn't know it also had to do with power and weight of the cars. I think it's a bit sad to see it since I saw potential on this shift towards hybrid power. I thought it was way better than going full electric and it could increase the interest of some manufacturers that could spent on this technology.

Full electification is off the cards in most categories.
The new meta is sustainable fuel, so the BRAAAAAP remains and the manufacturers don't need to shell out the price of electrification or hybrid units

Hybrids could be used in a much better way if the rules focused on using them as range extenders like they are on street cars, but they didn't do that. They are a really good idea for street cars that want to get better milage and manufacturers could easily use motor/sp/orts for R&D but like so many cases, the people in charge don't understand the technology and the sporting aspect.

What makes you so concerned, Portuguese anon? Oil is the second most abundant liquid on Earth. Don't be fooled, people on both sides have very good reason to make you think we are running out.

>Whay car/truck do you want? Realistically speaking
I'm considering getting a Honda Accord, I've read some good things about it, and it's a car that I think I could realistically afford some day (and I also like all the design of it). I can find some old gen models for sale on internet but not the newest one. Also, it would be nice to hear the opinion of the motor/sp/ort on this one.

>>145656191
I'm driving an Accord right now. First car, had it for about six years. North of 100k miles on it, she still runs great. Pushes a little oil, there's a whine in the fans when you turn on the heat or AC, and the automatic transmission now gets a little balky in low gears, but I have never had a serious issue with it and no complaints about reliability. Gas mileage is good, and at least the 2014 that I drive has a solid stereo system stock, so unless you're particular or a hardcore audiophile you shouldn't have any need to replace it.

My only real complaint is that the transmission will try and hold you in a lower gear if you coast downhill, to try and keep you from getting too fast. Maybe retards who don't deserve having a license need that, but I think it just puts unnecessary wear on the thing and I can modulate my speed just fine without it.
>>
>>145656191
Get a V6. That's the biggest thing. IDK if the newer ones have the option, but the older V6 Accords are really supprisingly fast. Like nearly as fast as contemporary Mustang GTs.They are extremely reliable and well built. You can nip pick small things, but I won't because if I don't tell you, you probably won't notice.

Nope. Teams are profitable, even for backmarkers, every day new dtsretard flow in. To most of this thread's dismay F1 is doing well. Is it a good package? Pretty much changes on a week by week basis.

>why the engine supplier list has thinned out to 4
This is another bullshit.
The last season there was more than 4 engine manufacturers was: DRUMROLL... 2009 had 5
Then Toyota and BMW left bc muh financial crisis, but Cosworth came back to be the 4th manufacturer. But they were so shit even in the V8 era, that no one wanted to buy their hybrid engine even though they were actively developing one.

Renault leaves the sport after 21 years (they will come back anyways later as they always do). Honda and Ford meanwhile comes back with Audi is in a bit of a limbo, so we will have 4 potential 5 engine manufacturers after 17 years.

God you guys if you hate something at least try to not come up with fabricated bullshit

Prior to the 1990s, only three drivers won multiple WDC in a row: Fangio, Brabham, and Prost. Since the 90s, almost every WDC has been won as part of a streak. Only 92, 93, 96, 97, 07, 08, 09, and 16 don't fit that pattern.

If you forgot, hybrids were first introduced in 2010 or 2011.
Cosworth existed in the V10 era.
The point I was making is there were periods when F1 had upwards of a dozen engine suppliers. Even in the 70s when ¾ of the grid were running Cosworth, it was because everyone back then was a privateer running off-the-shelf McLaren and Lotus chassis.

Ford is not coming back. Neither is Toyota. Both have been 'teasing' a return since they left. same with Porsche.

because development really slowed down and championships less decided on reliability.
Better metric would be the manufacturer of the wdc achieving car and the sentiment what was considered the fastest car in the season.
Fango had utter luck on changing teams for example, it was basically an inverted alonso with always making the good career decision.
Prior the 90s we've had Ferrari being the fastest years (like 1975-76-77) or Lotus years, but those were a bit shorter as the other teams were quick to copy ideas and come up with something completely new.

No one was talking about toyota or porsche coming back as engine supplier in these comments
Ford will come back, but it's just that they will slap their badge on the rbpt engines, so they don't need to really be active on that front, the heavy lifting will be on red bull
The pre 2014 hybrids were only "hybrids", basically just some mild boost, frequently teams developing the KERS unit themselves (lStill doesnt change the fact that cosworth was shit even in this era and already in the bigger portion of the V10 era, even caterham and marussia looked for alternatives for the proper hybrids)

Prior to the 80s it would only happen 1-2 times a decade, and only one team managed to do it more than once. Since the mid/late 80s it has been the norm for one team to go on multi-season dominance.

I am. Because I'm using them as an example of how big-name OEM's will make empty threats on joining F1 purely to try and drum up publicity. Porsche have done it three times over the last 15 years. Ford did it around a decade ago, and they're going to do it again.

I was talking about the car of the wdc and if that's regarded as the fastest car of that season. Like in 2021 or 2007 the wdc did not sit in the fastest car.
But earlier you needed to be still sit in the right car. Even in the 80s when reliability and driver professionalism was absymal compared to current standards, shit like the '86 season was an outlier and only the second time in that decade that the wdc did not sit in the best car, where piquet and mansell fumbled the ball with their infight while the williams was considerably better than the mclaren of prost. 82 was the only one where the wdc was not in the best car. The 70s showed the same, basically o nly the 76 season was lost with the best car of the season by lauda.
The thing is that in the "old times" teams had more rooms (not just in the rulebook but actually in technological advancements) more room to innovate so it was way more frequent that someone was able to come up something revolutionary. These years even though there is less movement within the order, but performances differences are way less between the teams

>>145664086

You are mentally retarded. Even in the era of sending home several shitboxes in prequalifying or F2 cars racing in F1 GPs there wasn't even 10 engine suppliers and some of those were basically blocks of garbage that barely qualified as engines and never started a race anyways. The year that 39 cars attempted to race in F1 they were only spread across half a dozen engine suppliers.

>it was because everyone back then was a privateer running off-the-shelf McLaren and Lotus chassis.
If by "everyone" you mean 3 local cars from the South African F1 championship that were only entered at Kyalami. This is an utterly absurd attempt at rewriting history of an era that is fucking KNOWN for everyone building their own chassis because there was a widely available engine they could use.

Ford is contracted and heavily invested for 2026-2030. Audi owns a goddamn team. Shut the fuck up and use google to find out how to commit suicide you stupid bitch.

japanese usually kept their GT program domestically, while german and italian manufacturers do able to supply factory driver for support while japanese can't
like GTR R35 disappeared from the field nowadays, nissan/renault never provide enough driver and technical resource to their customers while ferrari and porsche do have their factory team to maintain these car's development (AF corse, Manthey)
but I believe things might be a bit change as toyota so started their international GT3 program with GR supra(touring and GT)

The blame is on manufacturers. Japs are tend to be really closed down with their international racing programmes with no or just very select customer programmes.
Euro manufacturers like Porsche, Audi, Skoda(!) and such all realised the power of healthy customer programs, with many of them even being profitable (like Porsche, Skoda, Ford-MSport, Merc...) .
Also other important factor is, that the japs were very selective where their performance cars are available, with lot of them only kept for domestic or overseas markets, so the local importers had even less incentive to run a car which they don't actually sell, like the shitline was never avialable in europe.
>>
>>145679530
sent before I finished.
So this closedness and the other factors really make running japanese machinery not that attractive where you can have any euro gt car with a lot of factory and third party support, knowledge, parts, etc available

Right now I drive what is basically a rebadged EUDM Accord Type S CL7 (Acura TSX CL9 here). I think the Euro version had a k24a3, while the model year I have comes with a k24a2 with a 6mt. They are pretty cheap and from my experience bulletproof, literally never had a single problem with this car except a coil pack failure around 2 years ago and a felony speeding ticket. Wish we got the CH1 Type R here but from what I've seen they are cheap in Europe.

Of course Porsche is going to be more devoted to supporting a customer GT racing program that represents both its motorsports focus and part of its core profitability than a giant megacorp like Honda that is focused on selling eleventy billion scooters to SEAmonkeys and poos and is already supplying equipment in several open wheel and touring car series and numerous motorcycle racing championships. I mean look at it this way, basically Porsche has to run support for

963
911 GT3 Cup
911 GT3 R
911 GT2 RS
Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Honda

RBPTH002 (F1)
HI12TT/R (IndyCar)

CBR250RR
NSF100
NSF250R
NSF250RW

Talon

Of course that's only Honda from the Japanese manufacturers, but Toyota is still supplying engines for SF Lights, Japanese F4, sprint cars, midgets, running several 86 one make championships, and so on. Just the difference of being the 911 company (yes I know all their sales come from Macans and Cayennes but those women only think they need a Porsche badge on their Volkswagen because of the 911) or muh brown man driving machine and being a much more versatile wider market company. Notice those Japanese brands are much more invested in grassroots and developmental series and not just lawyer man's weekend money laundering hobby too.

It's a zombie class that everybody in the paddock is only trying to cash in on before the bottom falls out when the HD and Indian boards ask about that massive expense line for a 10 bike support class for a championship that doesn't exist on network or basic cable.

I really want to know how much Feldmann is paying Casagrande to drive for his son, because a driver of his category should not be racing in the secondary class, he is rn going 2s a lap quicker than the driver in second

Whats the story with the Caddy, is there a hybrid system in there? Im guessing there cant be when its engine literally sounds like the fart of Zeus.
>>
Just woke up I was expecting the motorcycles to wake me up...
>>
>>145688679
It's hybrid but not turbo. Turbocharging is what muffles exhaust
>>
>live BOP using adjustments to how fast a hybrid system recharges, or limits time of use, depending on performance of a car vs the field during a race
Is this their end goal?

>>145688899
>implying they don't do this behind the scenes already
All sports are like the WWE, the only difference is WWE owns up to it
>>
>>145688964
Everyone knows it's scripted, but those guys put their bodies through hell. Falling 30 feet off a ladder and only having a table to break your fall can't really be 'faked' when it comes to physical abuse.
>>
>>145688964
Its why they dont allow racing in the rain anymore under the excuse of safety, Too many unknowns for them to handle and control.
>>
>>145689046
I'm not saying WWE doesn't require intense athleticism or skill to do, I'm not one of those smug dicks that goes around telling wrestling fans it's fake. The point I was making is the matches are scripted.

I mean the part where you can't do that because there isn't any unless it dries a ton. Those cars could handle a lot more rain than any of the other classes and it was still like that.
