Do you think straight drives are best of all?

My golfing friends seem to think that it's better to have a slight draw, although I cant really understand why

I've naturally got a slight draw on my drive, so it might just be because they're trying to make me feel better about my game (which is otherwise largely diabolical)

slight draw, straight, slight fade, even a more significant draw or fade... none of it really matter as long as it's consistent
the "best" shot of all, is the one that you can hit and know exactly where it's going to end up

There's something inherently attractive about the idea of being 37 and finishing office toil at 2.45pm (having started early and only taken a short lunch) and then going to the local course for a quick 18 holes by yourself while listening to an audiobook and then returning to the homestead at 6.50pm-ish where the missus has prepared a fennel lemon risotto

You can't deny that this is an inherently attractive proposal, so please don't even try

a fade gets more backspin so you get less distance, so people generally like draws more. a solid analogy for draw vs fade is topspin vs backspin in tennis.
but yeah - as that other anon said, the optimal drive is one thats consistent

Was walking to bouldering yesterday and the most overwhelming need for a shit came over me suddenly. Hadn't felt anything like it before really. Whole insides just tightened up and felt like were going to explode.
I had had a duck Penang street food a few hours earlier, really should known better and had the insight to let that one out before walking to bouldering, let alone attempting bouldering carrying that load.
Made the decision to go home (brisk walk, light jog while taking deep breaths like something off a YouTube ant-anxiety help vid ), rather than risk the rest of the journey to my destination and get there soil free.
I felt I was slightly under halfway I guess , and anyone hearing that apocalyptic evacuation at Bouldering would have been a bit embarrassing for me
>>
>>145677855
Crisp, glad to hear it was a good trip, I read 'Hell in a Very Small Place' which was a comprehensively depressing account of what happened at Dien Bien Phu and how ineffective being completely reliant on aerial resupply was, dropping shit into the Viet Minh lines constantly even up to the updated maps with all of the French positions and codenames and known enroaching trenches. I did airdrop in the army and it's funny how nothing changes.

Nice, I think that's the part of Embers of War that I'm just getting up to actually. Can't remember exactly what year I'm up to, but the French and the Vietnamese are in conflict, with the French controlling the major cities/towns and roads by day, and the Vietnamese resistance hiding out in the jungles and launching guerrilla attacks by night

Are you planning to visit Saigon? Personally felt that the Cu Chi Tunnels were a little disappointing (bit of a tourist trap, don't actually learn a massive amount) but the Remnants of War Museum was very interesting (albeit focusing mostly on the conflict with the Americans, rather than the French)

sounds like you are a bit obsessed with her desu
I thought I was bad still thinking about my ''''ex''' from earlier this year
Update: haven't bumped into her at bouldering once(convinced she's retired), but have happened to pedal past her twice on my way back from tennis matches (won both of course), as she was making her way to what (I imagine) was Catholic society. First time we kind of smiled/laughed at each other. 2nd time she pretended to ignore me, and I myself felt that was appropriate

The love of a good woman and peaceful communion with our Heavenly Father are cures for most ailments

Honestly? Unironically? My humble and forthright view on the matter?

It's just plain rude behaviour

The ones who unfollow me are almost always women who followed me first in the not too distant past, I can only assume it's a deliberate strategy because they care a lot about their follower:followee ratio

Thus I will NOT allow myself to participate in this charade and continue following people who have no interest in my humble updates - the app helps with that

how is running good?
just isn't fun
With climbing you get to pull through your fingers and go higher and higher. Genuinely satisfying
Running you just get out of breath. What's the point. Don't get to build incredibly sexy arms like mine

Running and swimming are like climbings two too younger retarded, less primal bothers

Climbing really isn't a young man's game relative to other pursuits
You are so wrong there
There are many cases of people who were already experienced climbers moving through v grades from like 40 to 45
This kinda thing doesn't happen in any other sporting pursuit
Climbers don't fall off

Ultimately pure climbing isn't that athletic, it's just pull strength through your fingers

In the meantime he and I are on a Musk-style drive to slash bureaucracy and inefficient processes in our little corner of the civil service (ultimately doomed to failure because we'll run into some "sorry, don't care, we don't do things that way" bureaucrat at a higher grade than us)

>>
Bard is the archetype narcissist
Hasn't done a single thing of note except thumb a laptop but inherently thinks he is better than others
Whereas me, Zany z, I like to think I give everyone more of a chance
>>
>>145679105
>bard literally doesn't exist
Regrettably, I do
>a phd that didn't go to his graduation
I was embarrassed by the uni (worthless ex-poly), it was during covid when social gatherings were still partly restricted, I'd have had to shell out £100+ for the day trip to attend, my parents didn't even care about attending, and I've already been to my BSc and MSc graduations. All sorts of reasons why I didn't go desu
>a phd that doesn't go to conferences, a phd that doesn't do research
Well yeah, if I'm no longer in a job that'll pay me to do that, then obviously I stop doing that. What, am I meant to just jet off to conferences for a topic that I used to research but don't anymore, because I'm now just a lowly civil servant doing something completely different?
(Postdoc prospects looking VERY promising though, so could all change)
>goes on holidays multiple times a year
Twice per year for the last two years, desu. Don't think going on holiday multiple times per year is particularly remarkable either, when you get 5 weeks of paid leave.
>a self described miser who spends like a drunken sailor on multiple international jaunts per year
Don't spend too much on these holidays desu, and I have to spend my money on SOMETHING. Estimate that my SEA trip cost about £1.7k, for absolutely everything (flights, accommodation, food, activities, etc). South America maybe a little pricier, but not by much.
>called bard and can barely play his instrument of sing in key
Everyone's a critic!
>a phd that LITERALLY didn't know what a bonnet was
A scotch bonnet is a type of chilli m8
>how do you spend 10 years on a few letters
3 years
>and how many, many times you hear 'so when you getting your bonnet'
Did my research away from the university so didn't spend any time with other PhD students, but would wager that nobody has conversations like this with each other. They might say "When are you graduating?" but not "When are you getting your bonnet?" (might be a weird Australian thing)

Yeah I did, and it unironically went really well
Lots of laughs, and had people I didn't know coming up to me afterwards telling me they loved it and asking me if I'd done lots of public speaking before, stuff like that
Probably sounds like I'm making that up, but I'm not
Helps that the audience are very sympathetic and half drunk and will laugh at anything desu
Also memorised the whole speech rather than delivering it using notes, which I think counted quite a bit in my favour (the only one of the speeches which managed this desu)

Yeah appreciate it sounds a little far-fetched, but that's what happened
Bride's aunt told me it looked like I'd done public speaking for years, bride's scary coke-dealing uncle came up to me saying he wanted to shake my hand because he thought the speech was hilarious, and a guy named Jack I hadn't seen since uni said I should look into joining a Toastmasters group
Lots of commendations from others too, it was quite successful

I made a bit of a mistake in terms of believing that ETH and/or XRP would overtake BTC in the long run, but owning all three has proven to be a smart investment

Pretty characterful
Poor garden space but the inside is much bigger than peers, over 150 sq m which makes up for it. Garden is sufficient
Likely to be a middle class area or at the worst aspirational lower-middle/working class couples

Unfortunately I've already decided something will go wrong at possibly every stage

Went straight for asking and they cancelled like 12 viewings lined up. They had an offer already at the time I think. The whole area was pretty hot so I think I was lucky to get in there quick and nip it in the bud. If they waited it out reckon I'd have had competition
>>
Personally can't decide whether to buy a <£230k property in cash and enjoy a mortgage-free existence or stretch up towards £400k to take full advantage of stamp duty relief for first time buyers
>>
Whichever makes you less of a cringe neek
You should go with
>>
>>145682888
Fair enough, has to be done sometimes I suppose
Dread getting to that stage personally because I will inevitably and continually offer 70% of the asking price out of principle, and then get annoyed and frustrated when I keep missing out on houses that I'd taken a fancy to
>>
>>145682917
Was targeting that area and yeah things were being taken off within 2 weeks. If you liked the place you just did asking I reckon. Offers were risky

I think the lowest offer I made was 90% or so, they never went down though. There's a lot of overpriced crap that needs work on the market at the moment that people refuse to lower their prices on (still think it's COVID), but done up stuff is still going to go

>>145682900
The 425k is going down to 300k for first time buyers in April. Sadly suspect you have missed the bus on that one

>>
blogbrothers are back
>>
>>145683024
>I think the lowest offer I made was 90% or so, they never went down though
Grim, but yeah, guess it depends on the local market. Guessing you weren't going after houses that had sat unsold for a little while already?

>The 425k is going down to 300k for first time buyers in April
Oh shit, really? So if your purchase is over £300k you have to pay stamp duty, even as a first time buyer? That's bloody ridiculous, given that it's increasingly more difficult to find decent properties for <£300k (none of these shitty new Barratt New Builds are <£300k, after all).

Might force my hand to move before April though, I guess, or otherwise convince me to just live close to mortgage free instead
>>
>>145683067
On places that had been up for a while too, sadly a lot of sellers are delusional/greedy. Also if they've done work to their house they expect to profit massively from it which is usually not the case. A lot get attached to the money they've spent on it and refuse to budge

The 425 was always a temporary thing when they introduced it. Labour haven't extended obviously so it's returning to 300k for FTB and from 250 to 125 for non FTB. Makes getting a better house first up more worth I guess

You only have to pay for the amount over 300k though (so only 5k on a 400k purchase for example)
