Last few years bathurst was so dull and this year was one of the best races I've seen. Maybe Bernie's sprinkler idea needs to be revisited. So guys I'm back from Belgium. Me and my gf went yesterday to Zolder for the Nascar euro finals. It was pretty cool.Ticket price was low and you could go everywhere. Not a lot of people. In different places you would see the same people. We moved to different places to watch both races. The gridwalk was also cool to do.The only woman driver was sporsored by onlyfans, no joke, and she spun twice in front of us.All in all would recommend if you're close to Belgium.

>>151337065Went through a course in Italy that specialises in Motorsport (sorta like the FFSA Academy you have in France, just shorter and it doesn't replace regular high school education), then got an internship in a team and went from there. I was a regular mechanic before that.It was seriously disappointing as far as what they taught us, but what we were really after was the paid internship that came with the price tag. My first ever race was Silverstone WEC from forever ago, which isn't really a place where you expect to find many interns, and that's where I got hooked up on the endurance drug. From what I heard, FFSA has a good curriculum and it's an actual school, plus they have their own racing team in F4 and they send interns every year to a lot of teams during the 24h of Le Mans, which is great. I know the UK has a bunch of Motorsport courses too. I'm sure every country with a decent Motorsport following have their own version of what I did.>>151337640Hell yeah I did. I always try to sneak in some tourism whenever an early retirement happens. If there's one thing I love about US Motorsport is the spectator experience, which is waaaaay better than what we get in Europe.

>>151341237/turnleft/
>>151340936You mean like how easy it is for people to go around the place? I wouldn't really know cause both here and in Europe we have ATVs and golf carts to move around, and being dressed in team gear and using very obvious work vehicles gives you access to places that the average spectator wouldn't have. I have definitely gone to places I wasn't supposed to go many, many times. The main difference I think is that in the US you are kinda expected to get in with your car/truck/RV and sorta be on your own, whereas in Europe you are expected to walk everywhere and use the facilities provided to you.US tracks, with a few exceptions, give a vibe of really just being a loop of tarmac in the middle of nowhere with the bare minimum facilities built around it, but you can kinda go anywhere in a "build your own fun" kinda way, like parking your truck on a hill somewhere, pop out the BBQ, a cooler and some lawn chairs and be the happiest racegoer alive while watching cars go vroom 100 feet from you. I'm sure it's not like this everywhere, my only experience with US Motorsport comes from WEC and IMSA. Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca felt a lot like this, for example. In most major European venues I've been to, you are a lot more restricted in what you can do as a spectator, but there are a lot more facilities to use (grandstands, toilets, bars, etc) and I think in none of those places you can be anywhere in line of sight of the racetrack with your car or an RV, either you use a grandstand or you are walking.I'm not really the best person to ask about how it is to watch a race though, cause I've been experiencing it almost exclusively as a worker.I definitely like the American way better because nowhere in a major event in Europe you get to be this close to the teams and the cars, and I'm sure the spectator experience is a blast. As a worker though, I wish racetracks had more facilities because goddamn I miss garages so much when I'm here.
>>151343716>I think in none of those places you can be anywhere in line of sight of the racetrack with your car or an RV, either you use a grandstand or you are walking.it's not a first hand experience but as far as I know it's track dependent, like the most obvious example being the ring ofc.The tracks where wec/elms are racing are the super nice tier. Those which are 1-2 tier below and frequently only serve national level competition have trackside camping for example and less anal about what you do. Pic rel is Oulton park for the 2026 BTCC round
>>151335424No worries. I presume you have a whole lot of work to do during a race. Sorry you car was kill but at least you got to enjoy the race. I would have given you some beers if I knew you were walking around. Kek Hopefully, you will have better luck next week and I hope you will be working at Ferrari and posting here next season. (And in the off season. )Tanti auguri!
>>151332969Based. I'm really glad you had fun with your GF at a race. I've never taken anyone to a race that didn't have fun. It's my opinion that you should go to as many races as you reasonably can. They are all really fun to go to pretty much regardless of series or even how good the racing is. Of course, the smaller series typically has way better access than things like IndyCar. The trick might be burning the GF out on it.It would be cool if you could post some pics. I always appreciate when anons post race pics.
>>151334671Very coo!>The soud irl is much better. You can feel it.Yeah, you just cant get it from a recording.
>>151335893This year, I made it to IMSA, IndyCar, NASCAR plus some local stuff. Next year, I want to hit all those plus NHRA and the VIR round of IMSA the year after that or whenever or IF it even happens I want to add WRC. It's really, really fun and it's pretty cool to be able to look back and say>I was there when that happened. I've spent way too much money on going to races over the course of my live and I have not once never regretted it.
>>151339243>that's where I got hooked up on the endurance drug. Based. It really is the best kind of racing. >If there's one thing I love about US Motorsport is the spectator experience, which is waaaaay better than what we get in Europe.Based and sorry Euro bros.

>>151343716>being dressed in team gear and using very obvious work vehicles gives you access to places that the average spectator wouldn't have.Having a matching shirt and hat with a head set is a universal passport. >I have definitely gone to places I wasn't supposed to go many, many times. My experience is that sports car races (outside of Sebring, or so I hear) are extremely high trust gatherings. You can basically do whatever you want as long as it isn't hurting anyone. >"build your own fun">parking your truck on a hill somewhere, pop out the BBQ, a cooler and some lawn chairs and be the happiest racegoer alive while watching cars go vroom 100 feet from you. THIS! 100% this. It's also a huge community. I know it isn't really a thing for Euros, but you can just walk up to basically anyone at a race and start talking. YOUZA DORKBRRT BRRT BRRT
>>151343716There's two sides to that. The first is really all sports facilities go through basically three tiers>you're lucky if you can even watch at all (for race tracks this basically everything but the paddock area is inaccessible but there might be a grandstand)>okay we fenced off shit so there's somewhere for people to occupy if they give us money>a structured spectator facility so you can make money on concessions, upcharge based on seating, etc.American road courses overwhelmingly never bothered to advance past the middle stage for the same reason they barely somehow sort of pass FIA grade 2 if you squint hard enough. The second is weekend format. WEC's travel means there is definitely not any dedicated support series and they don't tend to fill the weekends up so the events are really only geared for people showing up for 6 hours on Sunday, which doesn't necessitate weekend camping. That's the difference between WEC Fuji and the Fuji 24H. Well the reasons for that are also that in Europe you can drive 4 countries over, watch a race, and be back by dinner time or whatever meme while everything in North America is so fucking spread out you're going to have a limited audience you can attract for just a few hours of racing so you have to make it a multi-day event worth driving 8 hours for (this is what is killing IndyCar oval racing)

I need to take more pictures on the back straight. I spent about 15 minutes there trying to follow the cars but its hard. I walked away thinking I did not get anything but I got a few cool shots. You can really feel the speed.
I like this photo. It really gets across how blind the drivers are going into turn 7 with the sun in their eyes.

>>151355351I didn't really get any good pictures of the AWA, just this slightly blurry one at night. I'm a sucker for the bright yellow of the factory cars.
>>151355296>>151355307>>151355342Panning at those speeds is pretty damn hard, especially if you aren't in full manual mode or at least just MF and shutter priority. Still, the fence might require the apature to be set carefully, too. A couple of the best places to take pics I have found are Turn 1 as they come out of the pits, just before Turn 2 you can get some good shots of the cars bouncing off the curbing (pic related is from film in 2010, sorry it's trash). Turn 5 at the bottom of the esses is pretty good. There is a manhole along the fence on Spectator Hill that looks back along the esses that is fantastic, especially if you have a long lens. Turn 7 is probably the best place for getting detailed, close up shots. The bridge on the back stretch is pretty good and the middle of the hill on the entry to 10 is also great. >>151347231 The bride on the hill between 10b and 11 is also pretty sick because you can get some amazing shots of the cars coming, but also some tails away shots from the other side.Man, you are really making me want to buy thousands of dollars in camera gear...

>>151356757Yes I work in film and video production. Bought the a7s3 thinking I could justify it more if I could use it for work too. I've used it for 1 job over the last two years so it hasn't been worth it for me. I regret not getting another version with a higher megapixel sensor and more for stills since that is what I have enjoyed using it for. Want to buy mine? It takes decent photos for a non professional setting but when you start punching in you can see the limits.

>>151355556Wow, those are way better than anything I have ever taken. The pic of the JDC car avoiding the Dragon Speed is extremely kino. I really appreciate you sharing these. This is pretty much the highlight of my year and it great to have those images since I didn't get vey many good ones and none as good as those. You have some great, crystal clear images of individual cars, but I might suggest that you try to also get some shots involving multiple cars. The two best places to get those type of shots is looking back at the esses and looking back at the Turn 10a 10b comple.>>151355692> I did not think to try manual focus for the straight.IDK how fast your auto focus is or how good your screen is (to check if the shots are any good) but when using a real camera to shoot cars on track I typically only use manual focus because I have been fucked by auto focus too many times. That pic I posted of the Flying Lizard Porache is a classic example. I set the focus on the curb, but once the car was in frame it refocused on the crowd. I didn't even know until my film came back from processing. Reeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!>some used gear form ebayWhat system are you using? I've only ever shot Cannon eos, but I never came close to needing more. My buddy had a nice-ish Cannon consumer model, but it's auto focus sucked, it's manual focus was very hard to use and the screen was blurry, so I said fuck it and just took phone pics.

They proved that even on a shoe string budget, they can run up front and I would bet if we had another season with a two car team we might even see them win. All I want for Christmas is someone to pick up the Lamborghini SC63 project. On a somewhat relaxed note, it's nice to see the Valkyrie coming along so nicely. I full expect to see the BoP dialed back very soon. If it isn't, I would suggest they stand a good chance of winning Daytona outright. I would also not be surprised if we see a second IMSA team.

Seems like something has clicked for SVG on ovals. Not getting finishes yet due to shit luck or strategy, but he's been a top 10 car on ovals for about a month now. He's a legitimate title contender next year. We know he'll be in, and regardless of format, I think he's going to be good on ovals*.*I think short tracks take him the longest, and then the wonky fhuge high speed tracks like Michigan, Pocono, Indy, etc are just bad for Trackhouse.

Most of the guys I know personally that shoot pro sports have been using Sony for some time now. I have not tried film because that's a whole different game. The guy that puts together those Lollipop racing magazines, can't remember his name, shoots on film and with something like a 100 year old camera. He was at Sebring this year, really cool photos.>>151363815I have a thing for Porsche and Rexy just looks good. I think he just likes the camera because he always seemed to come in sharp and I don't feel like I was chasing him more than some of my other favorites.
Shoe calling for a 36 point race system got some thick ass nostalgia glasses on. That would be terrible for NASCAR. Keep some version of the playoffs, but make it on points. Then make it a 10 race points battle between everyone and lower the bonus points from wins and remove them for stages. Nobody should start +40, for example.Full season points race and a bunch of fans stop giving a shit in week 10 when their driver is already out of it. In the old days it kinda worked (but was still boring) cuz there were characters and star power. Today every driver is a corporate drone reciting sponsor lines. People don't realize the playoffs have saved NASCAR from a truly awful existence. And they deserve credit for realizing how vanilla the personalities had become.

>“I would encourage you all, and fans, to not over-promote it like it’s going to fix everything,” Larson said. “I would encourage everybody to temper their expectations. It’s not way different. I did a test recently at Kershaw, and nobody told me that I had higher horsepower, and I never really realized it, so I wouldn’t say it’s going to feel different or look crazy different.”jejThere's that talk of it increasing rear tire wear but what you need to remember about that is air restriction mostly kills the ability to rev rather than low end torque so it doesn't necessarily make that much difference in terms of wheelspin. Longer braking zones will help passing a little but it's not a big change there either.

At Petit and many other IMSA events, they are all in tents and RVs like the rest of us, so there is a separate paddock area that is open all weekend. There is a fence that separates that from an area where they set up the "box" and then the pit wall and pit area. The amount of room behind the pit wall is absolutely tiny with how much the box takes up.I think the gibs at Petit are so common because it's the end of the season and the second biggest race of the year.

>>151406325Why did Ferrari stop racing their bigger touring cars? An 812 GT3 car would have gone hard as fuck.
I have come to the conclusion that certain manufacturers like gay aero in MotoGP because instead of having to actually apply complex engineering from a prototype racing motorcycle to a street bike 1/10 or 1/20th the price and convince consumers it works you can just slap some questionably functional wings on a budget chassis and parts bin engine and sell because it looks like one.
>>151406660I don't know. I guess that, because the 575 GTC didn't have the success they wanted, they decided to make the next GT cars based on their mid-engined cars (430 Scuderia, 458, 488...). It's a shame because the next car in their actual Gran Touring line was pic related and it would also go hard as fuck.
>>151406660>>151407115My guess is because they made the switch while there were still active GT1 and GT2 classes. They didn't want to spray the money hose at GT1 any more (MANY such cases) and they didn't want to diminish the big daddy grand touring car by making it a GT2, so they just took the little brother sports car and made it a race car instead. It was probably a little better platform and easier to make a GT2 car out of anyway. It's a shame they made the 499p a race car instead of going the Valkyrie route and making a true Hypercar that had to be dumbed down for competition.
>>151406660Ferrari never raced the 550 and barely raced the 575 before shifting all their effort to the MC12, the 550 race cars were completely third party. GT3 was specifically designed to accommodate lightly modified F430 Challenge cars, GT2 did have a private 550 show up briefly at the same time as the 360GTs but was geared towards lowered powered cars all the way through becoming GTE, with all the later V12 cars being over the supposed displacement limit. Same reason Porsche mostly races the GT3 and not the GT2, there's not much point in using an 800hp street car for a 500hp race class.

>>151406660too big and heavy to take advantage of GT3 rules. the 550 and 575 raced in GT2, back when GT2 was an actual performance leap above GT3. compare the V8 Vantage racing in GT3 to the DB9 racing in GT2 back then. Ferrari did the same, Maranello in GT2 and the 360/430 in GT3. GT2 died, but GT3 stuck around. the 430 already was doing a fine job, no reason to replace it. If you want the clearest exemplary of how the GT structure worked back then, look at the 996 GT1, GT2, and GT3 road cars. they were all homologation specials for their respective GT classes, and show the difference in performance and approach each one required.
>>151404438middle east is asia>>151419663WRC is non stop all around the year. Final is in december, first rally is in january. There is a 5 week gap, but within the season 3 weeks is normal between rallies and there is 2 4week gap as well
>>151419706it's five weeks when nobody else is racing, which is my point. They could run two events in both December and January. Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico are all valid locations.
>>151419706and thinking about it, motocross is another motorsport that would benefit from a winter calendar.
>>151419672I'm not really sure I see that actually happening.I know it was announced months ago but I'm extremely doubtful.
>>151407474>>151419704Thanks for the explanations. Looking at the entry lists for Spa 24 back then makes the distinction clear
>>151420033>looks inside gt2 category>gt3 cars
>>151420068after the proper GT1 died in 2000, the GT2 class got renamed to GT1 and the GT3 class got renamed to GT2. So, stuff like the MC12 and DBR9 of the 2000s, despite being called "GT1", were more comparable to the Chrysler Vipers and C5Rs of the late 90s. of course, that GT1 also ended up dying in 2009 or whenever, leaving just GT2 and GT3. eventually GT2 got renamed to GTE (because by the 2010s, the only championships still using it was ACO's endurance championships, so GT Endurance was a fitting name), and then itself died because GT3 cars got fast enough that the only distinction between the two was that GT3s cost a fraction as much to build and run.
>>151419733in that 5 weeks between mid december and late january there is alms, various feeder formulas like frec asia, formula toyota, 24h dubai, ROC, copypaste gt3 racing here and there, some ice racingAnd the king of all racing: pajeet and paki ox racing streams on youtube (both the nhra and nascar variety)
>>151419623oh, and upon further review the team management also isn't as in-depth. You don't get to fine-tune your crew members (you only get to hire the 'boss' of each department), You don't get to meticulously upgrade and manage all the parts of your shop (you just buy Level 2, 3, 4+ engine and suspension rather than upgrade each individual component of each department), and the shop itself is automatically upgraded every time you move up to a new series rather than having to pick and choose whether to expand your engine or body shop.
>>151420126obviously, the discussion is about high level world class racing. I can go to my local club track every weekend if I want to watch shitters and gentleman drivers wreck every five minutes.
>>151420096>GT3 cars got fast enough that the only distinction between the two was that GT3s cost a fraction as much to build and run.lol, the gt3 is still way slower (and by drivers admission worse in all other areas as well, like weight, dynamics, etc) than GTEGT3 simply won in WEC because it's cheaper, and manufacturers lobbied for the switch on cost reasons.
>>151420136this has less rigging and fagpampering than nascar lolhttps://www.youtube.com/live/lEzI4RcPBcY?si=vgS1LZNvXtVDCbDP
>>151420146by the late 2010s they were putting down near equal lap times at many tracks because GT3 aero got good enough that they could overcome the weight penalty. remember, GT3 is BoP'd to hell whereas GTE was open development.

It's really hard to make sense of the shilling for the new owners here because in a given article there's like multiple definitions for "runoff", none of which seem to mean "room to not hit a wall". It's still particularly funny they make a big deal out of how they didn't change turn 9 to maintain the tradition and integrity of the track, by which they mean they're adding a new layout to completely change turn 9 that will be used by anything that matters rather than doing anything about the safety issues with the current layout. I hope that awful chicane between turn 1 and 2 isn't considered an integral part of the new pro course at least. There's also something seriously fucked up about how the copypasta of the worst version of the Barcelona infield rejoins the old track in this model. The track isn't really short enough they needed to add 0.7m of infield to it anyways (particularly with the other lap time extenders) and it's not like they really needed more simultaneous tracks.

NASCAR really expects people to watch races for 2-4 hours just for them to randomly be decided by some boomer metaphysically throwing the dice in his empty head on when to throw a yellow flag.
GREENWHITECHECKERED
>>151425321But but but muh safety so we can't race to the line. What irritates me is that they count yellow laps. You're not racing, so you're NOT RACING. I don't mind the stage system, especially on stupid speedways which were complete snoozes between the affliction of restrictor plates and the introduction of stages. But yellow laps aren't racing and doubly so when they're burning off six laps after a stage, picking each other's noses and waiting for the AI to calculate analytics of exactly how many milliliters of fuel to put into the tank.
>>151425452Racing back to the line would fix so many issues. Use a red flag to freeze the field if there's a particularly dangerous situation.
