Unironically a kino position for MY birds. Silvers was tabbed from the getgo as the guy to run this offense, and at his worst he'd be a solid above average QB. Maybe he won't win you games on his own, but he can run the offense and let your top tier playmakers(which >we have) take over. Frost coming in and already looking good enough to be a starter means he's the "QB of the future" and more likely gets starts when Silvers gets banged up. Maximum hopium in the Lou.

>What makes them popular?
NFL relocating the Rams
>>
>>153924553
1: In 2020 there was a VERY strong "Fuck the NFL and fuck Stan Kroenke" sentiment that lead to a lot of the initial attendance. After that game was really fun and the team was pretty good, momentum was building to the game against LA where they opened up more seating. Then coof happened.
2: While that was happening there was a very organic growth of the fandom. Originally it started as self degredation but soon grew to be authentic. The league in 2020 pushed really hard for these shitty team slogans and they were completely ignored, and that's part of how "KaKaw!" was born. I still remember after the 2nd home game in 2020 just hearing people KAKAWing on the street as I walked to my car.
2: With Coof happening there was a sort of mythos for the team. We all knew the XFL was never coming back so it was just this *thing* that people talked about. And they talked about it a lot.
3: When the XFL did come back we showed up in droves mostly just to recapture that feeling. Then the team turned out to be pretty damn good, so it helped everything stick.
4: in 2024 specifically there was a feeling of "Oh shit, we're hosting the championship, we could win it all at home" and everyone was really excited for that. It didn't happen and 2025 felt like running things back so the attendance suffered. Now there's a group of diehards and the casual fan is indifferent. As for how other teams can reach these levels? They literally can't because they're in soccer stadiums. But if they want to reach good levels and be around the 20k mark regularly? Just play good football and have the UFL show up at HS games to promote the team. That will win a lot of people.

i think this was also why the Defenders were popular, just replace Stan Kroenke with Dan Snyder
>>
>>153924827
100% that was part of it. The team didn't quite take on mythical popularity status like the Hawks did, but that initial hatred of the NFL fueled at least a little bit of the interest.
>>
>>153924762
Please don’t say that. The next 10 weeks of games will be great and keep the league alive!

I haven’t dug into their websites too deep but looking at the Michigan Arrows, they commented five days ago mentioning an update when a home venue is found. I think the CFL portion will be the motion man but haven’t found the “Continental” rules breakdown yet. The Arrows have sweet branding haha

>Who will be the new laughing stock of the UFL?

The players.

From a career standpoint, it's safer to rest during the spring and then try out for the NFL over the summer, than to risk injury that results in no NFL shot while playing for peanuts in a spring league.

The only truly successful spring league player is Kurt Benkert, who succeeded because he QUIT the spring league and started a small business selling waterproof footballs and streaming Madden.

Hi everyone. I'm getting into American sports. I'm learning about American football, but since the NFL won't start until September, I've been told about the UFL and that it will start this Friday.

What is the UFL? It is like minor league football? Can you learn about American football while watching it?

Esentially yes, there are minor rule changes and additions in this alt football leagues but nothing that Will fuck up your understanding of the Game

Not sure if theres UFL spanish broadcast for UFL , i'm certain you understand English but might be more difficult with all the football terminology, Mexican league starts April 9 so you can also watch thats, entrrtaining football, broadcast Quality is lower tho, LFA uses NFL rules excepto for overtime in which it uses the NCAA extra drives format

>>
I have a question. Why all of the UFL teams located in the South and Midwest? How about the Northeast or the West? Do the UFL organizers plan to add more teams in the coming years?
>>
>>153994009
>Why all of the UFL teams located in the South and Midwest? How about the Northeast or the West?
there used to be teams in California (Wildcats) and Washington (Dragons). i think the reason most of the remaining teams are in the south is for the league to save money. during the week, all the teams practice in Dallas, Texas, where the Renegades are located.
>>
>>153994009
There are definitive plans to add more teams, I think Repole said he wants 12 teams by 2030. Currently they're located in the south and midwest through a combo of being grandfathered in, legitimate support, and cost of business. It's expensive to run in California, New York, and Washington, and the south/midwest is where there's a lot more grassroots football interest. I feel like we'll start seeing teams further northeast before we start seeing teams in the west though, if only because of how they want to run in soccer stadiums and not pay out the ass in taxes.
>>
>>153994162
Makes sense, especially since it's a new league. I hope it helps to make it grow. I thought it was due to the South loving football too.

>>153994193
>if only because of how they want to run in soccer stadiums and not pay out the ass in taxes.
What do you mean? Using football only stadiums costs extra?

Though it can be a good thing. Both sports get exposure and both sports grow too. Everyone wins.
>>
>>153994256
So the handegg stadiums in the US typically seat 40-70k people. They're absolutely massive. As a result even a legitimately good crowd of 20k people looks fucking empty on TV and you get rightfully clowned on. Whereas the soccer stadiums every team but St. Louis and Birmingham are running out of typically host 10-20k, and then even when you only sell half the stadium it looks, sounds, and feels a lot better. On top of that you need way less staff to run the place, and generally the stadiums themselves charge less for use. IIRC Ford Field in Detroit was asking for $500,000 per game. Just insane amounts of money to rent a building that averaged 10,000 fans and can fit 70,000.

Football stadium expenditures is why the Michigan Panthers are no longer a team. It is $500,000+ to use the stadium for a single event. It's different in STL since the state owns the venue and there aren't a ton of people lining up to use it.

Currently the UFL is doing a "challenge" to each fanbase to see which team can sell the most tickets to their home opener. They're doing 33% off tickets, and every ticket bought between March 12th through March 26th counts towards this leaderboard. A guy on reddit and I figured out how they're getting these numbers for their leaderboard and we both separately post what the updates are to ticket sales. So right now St. Louis is at 4,349 tickets sold in that timeframe(doesn't include season tickets or any individual games sold beforehand) and Houston is at 262. For the most part the numbers have been increasing at an expected rate, but twice now we have seen Birmingham's sales jump for absolutely no discernable reason. The first time it turned out to be some yahoo messed with the spreadsheet they get their data from and they corrected it, this time they didn't. It calls into question the numbers across the board but eh, I don't really care that much. Just an excuse to shitpost.
>>
>>153999820
I see. What do the team who sells more tickets win? I think a better way to gauge fanbases would be just get more likes on this post or something. It works nearly as well.
>>
>>153999852
Copy pasted from the website
>From March 12–26, every fanbase in the league is going head-to-head in the UFL Kickoff Challenge — a race to see which city rallies the most fans to fill their team’s Home Opener. The team with the most Home Opener tickets sold during this two week window wins! The winning city earns the title of "Rally Capital of the UFL" and 50% Off UFLShop.com sale on their team gear - so everyone can rep their team for Kickoff!

Yeah theres always been free YouTube and facebook broadcast both by the league and sometimes by small online media dedicated to national american football like maximo avance, tercer cuarto and receptor.mx

TV has varied over the years, for a while It was in canal once a national public access channel that already carries a lot of ONEFA (mexican college football) games so It was a good match but some people in the government decided It was wrong for public TV to show games from a private sports league.

Othee than that games had been on fox sports, claro, tvc, tidn and imagen televisión, also a bunch of small local TV stations in Monterrey, Saltillo, Chihuahua, Puebla and Querétaro, its never been behind a paywall which i think It techbically Is now because you Will need cable TV or a disney+ account

>I do think it helps with the professionalization of the sport. How popular is American football in Mexico?

Very, the NFL Is the most watched foreign sport league in México its only second to LigaMX, plus we have a long and deep rooted football playing tradition, organized college football has been around for close to a 100 years, Its the most popular in central México (Ciudad de México, estado de México, Puebla, Morelos, Hidalgo) and the north east (Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Coahuila) but you can find teams and dedicated facilities all over the country

>>154000176

DC vs STL is the only actual rivalry in spring football. Typically close games, the teams have gotten into brawls with each other, DC has the original Battlehawks QB, typically both teams are good, they shared a conference when that was a thing, and DC is(or at least was) easily the 2nd most popular and talked about team in the league. Again, fuck DC. But they should host the championship game this year.
>>
>>154000939
If anyone can post the behind the scenes game day XFL youtube videos and KMOX news bits. They both really fucking hate each other. Not just the fans but the players that have been there for two or three years.

I'm glad a big sports network is making American football more widespread across the globe, but I just wish it wasn't behind a paywall. If you want a sport to become widespread it should be available in as many ways as possible.

Not really, baseball is the biggest in the northwest and south east, maybe slightly in Nuevo Leon and Chihuahua

>Are sports in Mexico besides soccer a regional thing? Like Northern Mexico likes a sport, Central Mexico likes another and so on.

Very much so yeah, even soccer is somewhat regional, its the most popular overall but theres levels to it, the West is the most soccer crazy and almost soccer exclusive part of the country, and soccer is the second sport after baseball in Sinaloa, Sonora and Baja California, those are the 3 main team sport and youll find them everywhere but to a wide varying degree of popularity, and Sonorenses also like basketball because their shitty year round weather dosent allow them to play anything outside except for slow ass baseball

Is Mexico really that decentralized? I didn't know sports there were that regional, even soccer having different levels depending on the area is kinda surprising.

Would you say those preferences come more from climate and infrastructure, or from cultural history in each region? Like the North being more influenced by the US, for example.

You also said that in Mexico, college football is pretty popular. Is there a football duality there like in the US? A professional football league vs a college football league that is also very popular.

its a big ass populous country, also i think all countries are more decentralized/diverse than we think

>Would you say those preferences come more from climate and infrastructure, or from cultural history in each region? Like the North being more influenced by the US, for example.

a mix of elements, US influence is one for sure but then you have places like Tabasco and Veracruz that are deep in the south where baseball is big.

American football introduction to mexico happened as a result of the revolution, there was a push for socialized education after the revolution, new unis etc, lots of the people pushing for that had gone to school in the states during porfiriato/the war at the time football was being created so their concept of what a college should be included football, for a while in the 40s-50s football was arguably bigger than soccer thanks to games like El Clasico Universitario UNAM v Poli thta represented the old rich people scholl vs the school for the sons of the campesinos, keep in mind the NFL only started broadcasting in Mexico in the early 70s, we liked football before we liked the NFL

>You also said that in Mexico, college football is pretty popular. Is there a football duality there like in the US? A professional football league vs a college football league that is also very popular
The pro league LFA is somewhat new started in 2016, there where attempts to get a pro football league before but they all folded, this one is on the right path, hardcore college fans are probablly more excited about their college team than LFA
>>
>>154008676
>keep in mind the NFL only started broadcasting in Mexico in the early 70s

Football being popular before the NFL? Now that's something. I would've been interesting if Mexico stayed an American football country instead of a soccer one. Do you think it could've happened or soccer was destined to dominate anyway?

>games like El Clasico Universitario UNAM v Poli that represented the old rich people school vs the school for the sons of the campesinos
So a social/class rivalry instead of just a sports one? Sounds closer to Europe than the US, though I'm not sure if the US also had that kind of rivalry or still does today.

Soccer did had an organic upswing went from being a Guadalajara and a couple of sports club in México City thing to gain national notoriety, see baseball got to be the number 1 sport in México, even before college football, but It started going down and soccer gained traction, but its true It also got a TV interest push to make It what It Is now specially in the 70s and forward.

Also the government suppresed football in the same time period, i dont know if youve heard about the 68 student masacre, see college football was big specially amongst the young, where theres a lot of young folk theres roudy behavior, schools had porros, football fans with a tendency to get violent, so during a highschool Game some of this porros started a fight, the authority response was exagerated to Say the least beating up and illegally detainning everyone regardless if they were actual porros or not, lots of the brutalized stdents where minors, so a student movement started first against general governmebt represión, evolving to full zurdo Activity, after this the goverment decided college football much like rock was dangerous because when You have to many young people togheter, communism happens, and so they pulled fundign from public schools to kill football programs, blocked media coverage of games, límited the stadiums they could use, also they infiltrated porro groups and turn then into government allligned strike breaker groups/kill squads thats participated in the 71 corpus Christi masacre.

Now this is where it gets tin foily, as the goverment supressed national football, the NFL came into scene in Mexico, maybe it was all a coincidence/ tv realiizng it was a good bussiens oportunity?, or it was a way to appease people giving them a sanitizied apolitical football show?

>>
>>154037799
In terms of what? If you just want to touch the ball the most and "do" the most, it's QB. If you want an excuse to be violent it's hard to beat Linebacker. If you want to humiliate people it's WR. Everyone gets something cool to do though.

Watch for a while and you'll get an idea of the stereotypes.
QB is the most pivotal but without good receivers he can't do shit.
The linesmen are sumo wrestling on every snap.
Little athletic guys can make a dangerous run game.
Kickers have one job, so they've got to do it well. Good kickers can collect a paycheck for twenty years without a single concussion.

Serious question but do we have any UFL players that lurk here?
Do you read comments about the games on like Instagram or YouTube highlights?

It must be demoralizing playing in front of mostly empty stadiums and getting paid kinda shitty but at the same time feeling some brief moment of solace that like 100 autists on /sp/ genuinely follow the league for no real apparent reason beyond boredom and memes and seem to be enjoying themselves

I imagine someone screenshots shitposts on here and shares it around the locker room after practice and everybody giggles. Maybe "new niggas" has turned into like a locker room meme and league-wide slang for new people.

>I worked on a video game that was universally panned and I sometimes doomscroll the company's forum and reddit.
>It warms my heart when someone in a sea of shit steam reviews says he actually loves the game and things I personally designed or decided.
