Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

At the moment, I screenshare DungeonScrawl and reveal rooms as the party can see them. I would much prefer to just call the dungeon and let players do their own mapping but because of who my particular players are and how they are situated I don't think it would work well over the internet at the moment. To play devil's advocate, I like Borg games for three things they do perfectly well:
- they teach people to not get attached to their PCs, because you are going to have like four different ones during a single game session
- they showcase perfectly fine you can have an entire session done by dice rolls, with zero prep, zero planning and just moving with the motions (and this is fucking invaluable, especially when you have people that are either completely new or from a years-long, but now defunct groups)
- it takes the piss off the whole ACTUAL tryhard OSR and the "ye olde goode days" bullshit, by showing just how fucking obtuse for no reason or gain those games tend to be (except as a joke, rather than for real)

Also, Pirate Borg, if you re-edit it into an actual ruleset (which is about 15 pages of text), is the closest thing to a functional pirate game on the market.

I've played plenty of SotDL and enjoyed it a lot. But this is a Mörk Borg thread, and I was trying to explain the appeal of the game, as I saw it. That aside, I don't find SotDL and Mörk Borg at all comparable. SotDL is the better game for sure, but it's not nearly as lethal, nor as simple.

Raid a dungeon.
Either die in the process (then you get a new PC), or afterwards (where you don't).
This isn't rocket science.

The actual point is to have fun with friends for 3-5 hours, while grasping the basic concept that you are playing a game. And said game was deliberately designed to laugh off the concept of playing games. Which I think is the part that most people struggle with considerably.

Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

You can roll up the types of missions they're playing beforehand (after quartermaster/exploration phase of course so they can't specifically pick stuff for the objective) and then try to craft a narrative around it.

My group kinda gave up on it after game 3though because it became kinda cartoony that our 4 warbands kept meeting each other.

It will never happen because the logistics & cost of casting plastic models that aren't guaranteed to sell prohibits it from happening, but it would be very nice for me personally if GW could spin up the 1997 plastic chaos warrior kit for a couple runs. What few boxes are available second-hand are obscenely expensive (you do not want to know how much I spent on picrel) and even buying the models pre-assembled (and often pre-primed with tar-like sludge) is getting to be rather difficult. I'd also like them to do some MTO runs of the metal bits that came with the 5th ed plastic kits. The last set of 5th ed metal bits I need for my personal collection are the chaos knight bits, specifically for the helmet as the box of knights I got from some guy off of ebay didn't come with the helmet for some reason.
If you mean which kit I'd like to see redesigned in GW's modern style, then I'd rather they not redesign anything at all because I don't like what they've been putting out for chaos since 2007 and the chaos aesthetic peaked in the '90s. It would be fun if they could design new metal upgrade kits for the older models, but that'd never happen.
