Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help: >n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0 >Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128 >Need a starter dungeon? >>97399434At the moment, I screenshare DungeonScrawl and reveal rooms as the party can see them. I would much prefer to just call the dungeon and let players do their own mapping but because of who my particular players are and how they are situated I don't think it would work well over the internet at the moment. Having your players map the dungeon is definitely the proper way to do things, and it allows you to incorporate weird stuff like >>97400635 said.
>>97402677I'll let you know. I need to go through the module again and make a few notes to myself anyways.

FUCKING PEAK AND YOU CAN’T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE
>>97398260To play devil's advocate, I like Borg games for three things they do perfectly well:- they teach people to not get attached to their PCs, because you are going to have like four different ones during a single game session- they showcase perfectly fine you can have an entire session done by dice rolls, with zero prep, zero planning and just moving with the motions (and this is fucking invaluable, especially when you have people that are either completely new or from a years-long, but now defunct groups)- it takes the piss off the whole ACTUAL tryhard OSR and the "ye olde goode days" bullshit, by showing just how fucking obtuse for no reason or gain those games tend to be (except as a joke, rather than for real)Also, Pirate Borg, if you re-edit it into an actual ruleset (which is about 15 pages of text), is the closest thing to a functional pirate game on the market.
>>97410539Mate, SotDL does that concept way better
>>97411678SotDL is a barely hidden fetish fodder. And those aren't even fetishes anyone is likely to have
>>97411678I've played plenty of SotDL and enjoyed it a lot. But this is a Mörk Borg thread, and I was trying to explain the appeal of the game, as I saw it. That aside, I don't find SotDL and Mörk Borg at all comparable. SotDL is the better game for sure, but it's not nearly as lethal, nor as simple.
>>97410511>but I don't really get what we're supposed to do in Mork BorgRaid a dungeon.Either die in the process (then you get a new PC), or afterwards (where you don't).This isn't rocket science. The actual point is to have fun with friends for 3-5 hours, while grasping the basic concept that you are playing a game. And said game was deliberately designed to laugh off the concept of playing games. Which I think is the part that most people struggle with considerably.
>the next BBEG in your campaign is a coomer that goes around kidnapping and mind controlling women for his harem, and literally that’s it.Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing. If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

Necromancy Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. >>97410233The park sector at Disneylands. The original plan was for OT & PT stuff, but Kennedy convinced Iger it should be 100% Sequelshit because "that's looking forward to the endless content to come, not back to stuff only a dwindling number of older fans will care about". Now they're remaking half the park, getting rid of the Sequel-centric "storyline" of the place, and bringing in a bunch of OT material and characters.
>>97410636>The character does need a complete retcon or to be reconned away, yes.The smart move would be to just timeskip away and hope people forget teh sequel era ever happened.>I don’t even hate the idea of a naive force prodigy or Daisy as an actor, but the writing decisions made for her character are absurdly bad.I don't hate any of the actors, not even those who went and insulted the fans when the Mouse ordered them to.I despise them, and refuse to pay for any work they are in, of course, but that's it.And I really feel bad for those like the Rose actress who got shat on by Lucasfilm-Disney and the directors and writers. That being said, the concept of 'young naive force prodigy' might have been good. doubly so if they had stuck to the whole clone of palps impregnating women around the galaxy.Too bad, like almost all things in the sequels it's a wasted opportunity.>>97410789I think some of the Disney higher-ups have realized that burning piles of cash to reach the mythical 'new audiences' or whatever they call it while at the same time shitting on teh existing fans does, in fact, cost them lots and lots in lost profits. It's of course too late now, after almost a decade nobody of the wider public gives a fuck, and teh actual fans have been insulted, called racist, etc. and will absolutely not give the new thing the benefit of the doubt.

>>97411665Does multi basing make it not rank and flank? Do skirmishers not get based individually in WHFB?
Here he goes again, responding to himself to have an off topic conversation about historicals. The same script as usual. Remember not to respond. Report for off topic, it’s all we can do.
there's something magical about round bases on movement trays, when it is old or old-looking models, not good or bad per se, just slightly otherworldly
>TQIt will never happen because the logistics & cost of casting plastic models that aren't guaranteed to sell prohibits it from happening, but it would be very nice for me personally if GW could spin up the 1997 plastic chaos warrior kit for a couple runs. What few boxes are available second-hand are obscenely expensive (you do not want to know how much I spent on picrel) and even buying the models pre-assembled (and often pre-primed with tar-like sludge) is getting to be rather difficult. I'd also like them to do some MTO runs of the metal bits that came with the 5th ed plastic kits. The last set of 5th ed metal bits I need for my personal collection are the chaos knight bits, specifically for the helmet as the box of knights I got from some guy off of ebay didn't come with the helmet for some reason. If you mean which kit I'd like to see redesigned in GW's modern style, then I'd rather they not redesign anything at all because I don't like what they've been putting out for chaos since 2007 and the chaos aesthetic peaked in the '90s. It would be fun if they could design new metal upgrade kits for the older models, but that'd never happen.
>>97409617>>TQ:>Which kit/kits do you most desperately want to see remade?minotaurs, centigors, chariotsspearmen, archers, silver helmswarriors, thunderers, slayersstate troops, gunners, knightly orderspilgrims, pegasi, grail knightsskeletons, archers, chariotsbig uns, goblins, wyvern
>Black Legion no longer hard into Chaos worship, Abaddon sees himself as not a slave and is disdainful of the religious>Iron Warriors see relying on the Dark Gods as a weakness>Night Lords are edgy atheists>Emperor's Children don't care about Slaanesh specifically really, are just concerned with pleasuring themselves and being freaky. Fabius actively hates Chaos>Thousand Sons hate Tzeentch for fucking them and try to fuck him over when they can>Alpha Legion retconned to basically never having been religious at all >World Eaters are crazy and barely verbal anymore>Red Corsairs see relying on Dark Gods as weak and now have a whole cadre of troops that are "free" of Chaos influence>Only Word Bearers and Death Guard seem to actually venerate the Chaos GodsWhy are so few CSM actually religious anymore? >>97410361The logic here was actually sound.>the eye of terror would have been that big originally>necrons during the WiH put a network of anti-warp pylons around the eldar homeworlds for obvious reasons>this contained the eye of terror >destroying a major part of this network caused the eye to expand
>>97411736I agree with all your points except>the eye of terror would have been that big originallyIt's like the Old Ones put some bees in the wall and the Necrons nailed wooden boards over it. The Warp had been getting worse and worse over 65 million years, to the point that when Abaddon removes the board, a far worse storm/bee infestation is unleashed.
