>They'd be the guys who spend centuries obsessed with the cultural development of civilizations since they would be the ones to live long enough to watch them rise and fall in real time, and obsess over shit like having perfectly recorded family trees of families that they consider interesting or "original pieces" from craftsmen whose techniques were passed down between generations
Yeah nah, that's pretty based.
Each elf should memorize the names and deeds of their own family, with the goal to create great history for themselves.
In a settan, I have one elf race that actively shuns writing, as they think memory is better for recording information and history. And they record their own history in songs, hymns and poems, and it's the greatest honor to have a song just about your own deeds, passed down for generations.
>>
>>97403062
I mean, elves are basically superior in every way. They need severe nerfing so that humans can compete.
Look, all our stories are human-centric because WE ARE HUMANS. That's why we struggle to deal with the idea of a genuinely superior race.
This extends to sexual jealousy as well: How many fantasy stories do you know that have female human-male Elf couples? Versus male human-female elf couples?
You ever seen the girl choose the elf dude over the human hero? Of course not, even if that makes a lot more sense.
>>
>>97412147
That's because there's more male authors and modern women are too degen to want the perfect man-hunk, but instead hunger for monster cock.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

I've got a Sentinels of the Multiverse game we just started up going. (The guys that made that Super Hero LCG made an RPG for their setting. Funnily enough, the last cannon event in tge lcg was a !NotGalactus/Darkseid kicking off !NotCrisis and destroying the multiverse. The RPG opens on the aftermath. The !NotJL sets up a training school for the next gen of heros coming up to replace everyone who died/fucked off/retried from PTSD)

I seem drawn to Bruisers and Flying Bricks. My character right now is flying brick named Blackfyre who has no idea that he's powered by the stolen Grace of a Fallen Angel.

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here

My mother's home was full of butterflies. In her senile years, one of the gilded adults that called on her had spared no expense, and turned the woman's home and the jungle beyond it into a proper garden. My mother was not the woman she used to be. She sang in the parlor, she knitted well into the night and fell asleep under stars and the doom of glass that was now her house, and home to a thousand powdery wings.

There were bubbling stones and pathways brightly lit, small sweeping brambles grown delicately into pleasing shapes. Roses bloomed thickly on the garden gate. I could see the outline of dozens, hundreds, of imperfect places. I could tell where the inclines were ground down, and where trophies piled to be forgotten nestled in the earth untouched. I saw all the uninteresting things those humans, that plodded around the garden full of secrets, would never see. I found the tie.

In the evening before my mother's last day on earth, I dug out the beautiful garden and flung it all over with mud. I pulled my prizes from their plots. A robot. A precious thing too big for the child that loved it. A steel train whistle. I thought of the boy who owned it. He sniffled and cried a lot, too much. For weeks he cried, but I forgave him. A teddy bear, eaten down until only the plastic eyes remained. I kept my pinky promise to her and didn't let her fall off the fence once. A tiny pickle ornament. I didn't abandon him when the lights went off and he was scared of the dark. The red wooden block. The walk was long, but we stayed together the whole time.

But I couldn't find the last one. I could remember the cut above his eye, how it still looked like an angry bug bite when the adults, satisfied with all the work he didn't do himself, sent him off on his first errand alone. I tore down the roses, exposing the barbed wire on the garden gate. It hung where it had always, garden or nothing. I traced again and again the line he made while trailing blood. Straight from the back door down to where the pit used to be. I couldn't find his tin soldiers. I couldn't locate their little cookie box. I cried. He didn't come back and I hadn't cried then. I thought for a long time that it would have been better if he had fallen after all, but I didn't cry. I was sadder then ever because I couldn't find his damn cookie tin. I thought it was very human of me.

When they came for her, she did not fight them. None of the gilded adults helped, nor the dull ones either. She was a ghost of a bygone past and none of them needed her anymore. I was a ghost in their windows, I peeked in at their lips and heard their every fearful sound. I alone knew the shapes they huddled around, traced the outlines of their worries. In the passage of time, knew them all very very well. I was the one that heard the timber of words they spoke to themselves in the dark, when they believed they were alone. When a phone rang in a place it shouldn't, I was there to intercept and listened to the tones of numbers and knew which ones they pressed. If adults didn't know everything was unravelling around them, they were full of smiles. I let them be. Those with smiles and children, after all, let those children sleep in their beds without secrets to fear. They didn't need to fear the animal howling outside. I did not howl for them.

When they came for me, I did not fight them. I smiled at them warmly over tea, and I passed into their hands a tie- a letter. Crumpled and aged. There was a folder full of all the secrets I knew, and that was finally gone. I breathed a sigh of relief and didn't fear if I would finally be excluded, I was an animal after all, a dog with a wagging tail.

That winter, when the towers of Babel fell I pulled down the barbed wire from the garden gate. I finally found out what was on the other side and laughed. When I strung across it all the crochet my mother made over those many years she grew old, It looked like barbed wire. They were such terribly made flowers.

Any thoughts on the story structure where it's events, and then those same events from the opposite perspective? I watched 86 recently and it does this and I've got to thinking of a story where somebody meets an infamously lucky person and has dealings with them, and then the latter half is from the lucky person as they set everything up to swindle, outwit, or just get one over on the former.
And I guess a secondary question is how do you write somebody with incredible luck?

That's because
>Government subsidies for all feeder industries to the car components

>Government capital ensuring that losses are absorbed
>Government strategy that knows that undermining the industrial heartland of competing powers means they won't have the ability to manufacture or design weapons for the next war

It wasn't even fumbled, it was straight up murdered for the sake of the KS scams CMON has been living off of until now.
>>
>>97406668
40k was already killing itself and adopting its failed business model was not a recipe for success. 40k is alive because of brute forcing the setting into a variety of media while the tabletop game remains forever on life support.

40k has become like the god emperor. Just a corpse in a chair with a bunch of tubes kept artificially alive through the life energy of others born into its service.
>>
>>97412066
this is just, simply, untrue. GW is making money then ever right now. 40k sucks but it is absolutely the most popular miniature game on the market and the fact that your so full of hate you can't see that makes me so sad.

Think that's slightly less important, unless it's a big part of the game.
>>
>>97397967
You can design a system around them, it's all about what serves the experience you want to design.

For example, let's say you base the rules on something simple like on rock paper scissors: rock could be stab/block, paper could be slash/feint, scissors could be riposte/parry.

If you need to invent a mechanic for the name, then probably less necessary. Mechanics first, then fluff.

I've always been a little confused about the difference between Blocking and Parrying. The definitions seem to vary depending on whether the subject is hand-to-hand, swordmanship, if you've got a shield, etc etc etc.

I do think, though, that having more options is usually good. Tactically interesting, y'know?

blocking means stopping the attack in its tracks while parrying means deflecting or redirecting your enemy attack. Blocking is easier but Parrying might make your opponent off guard

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

I know a full shell dyson sphere isn't the most realistic depiction but I like them. My main question though is, is there any way of making it that planets surrounding the star are livable and not frozen rocks? Assuming a scenario where the planets weren't ground up to make the sphere. Or if it's a half of a full shell, again is there a way surrounding planets and space colonies could survive for half their orbit?

Dyson spheres are for energy capture in the first place, so couldn't you just beam a portion of the energy received at planets such that they are kept livable? Either directly as artificial starlight or as concentrated beams that would then be used to power artificial temperature control for sealed habitats?

Like imagine a Death Star set for reheat.

that set up is pretty similar to the anime/manga Hell's paradise.
There the main setting is an Island near japan which was settled by someone sent out ages ago by the chinese emperor to find the elixir of life. The island was basically turned into a labratory to create it, primarily by researching Tao(the local chi equivalent), for that purpose they also create a bunch of other kinds of beings by combining humans with other life forms. WIth the strongest being a handful of near immortals who are part flowers, they can perfectly regenerate and dont age as long as they have enough energy, which they only replenshis with a special elixir created by refining human corpses.
There were also a bunch of more normal people who only had their lifetime extended by being part tree, but the longer they lived the more tree like they became until they eventually just full on became trees and lost all sense of self.

how about making it the opposite of a Ring world, where you essentially leave in Ring like gaps that could still let enough sunlight escape for nearby planets.

Thanks. I read that manga when it came out but dropped it at some point so I didn't know all that. The setup is based on an actual legend about Qin Shi Huang (first Emperor of China) who allegedly sent his court magician (Xu Fu) looking for the elixir. He also drank shitloads of mercury and is the guy buried behind the Terracotta army.

The one thing I want to avoid is using human corpses, souls, spirits, or anything like that. It overlaps with other forms of life extension/immortality that I have.
