I paid $15 for 100 40mm square bases including shipping.Gw makes most of their money from whales and aunts/moms buying stuff for their teenage son or nephew. one of their former product designers explained some thing called a "hobby trumpet" where the flared portion of the trumpet are naive and uninformed gift buyers. the narrow part of the trumpet you blow on are the experienced hobbyists and modelers who know where to buy everything cheaper.

>>97400338I agree with you, yet given the fact that it's a pretty big company, they most likely done the best choice business wise and much more well informed than we are.I'm no economics major, but there was a stock market speculation around the release, there's also the factor not all people that buy it on console will eventually return it for 100% cash. My guess is that even making a PC exclusive release would push back console players into unifinished AAA mindset, hence I'm positive they just did what every AAA company does, which is making serious motherfucking money

Any advice? They're all new to playing D&D as well as well so I'm hoping to fake it til I make it.
>>97403276This is the true answer. Most people are happy enough to play that if you put in some effort to figure out what you're doing they'll probably be happy.
>>97398534>I've lied to my friend groupSee, you might not have DM experience, but you've already figured out the fundamentals.
>>97398534You really can fake it til you make it. >>97398560 is great advice. Most DMs suck because they didn't have their material ready in advance, and premade modules fix that real quick. LMoP is nice and simple, which is good because players complicate shit really fast. Just have the maps ready, the tokens in place, and all the monster sheets on hand, and you'll be better than a solid 90% of people who have ever DMed so long as you don't modify anything. Don't worry about it being too easy, as players love thinking they were good enough to make it easy and don't know anything about encounter design. Trust me, no one is going to question your experience when they're all too busy thinking about what the fuck their PC even is or what they can do. If anyone does actually question why something is the way it is, just say "that's what's in the book" and they will believe you 100% of the time.In short: Phandelver it up and just play everything straight. You got this OP.
So how long should a boss fight take exactly? The last test took 80 minutes but that could be shaved down by not needing to reference rules as muchIn this case every turn a d4 determines how many more skeletons get summoned unless they realize the orb in his hand is the source of that annoyance and get it away from him
>>97406276Fight time lengths are hard to predict, although more enemies, PC's having long lists of powers and players at the table all definitely compound time. How much time a player will take to talk/think/strategize on each new turn is a wildly variable thing own its own, especially for beginners. I would say a big fight like a boss fight takes the better part of an hour at minimum, and if you actually ONLY spent 40 minutes (from introducing, fighting and concluding that boss fight) that would be uncommon. Make sure you describe the Boss orb as glowing/sparking during the summoning as a hint! and if they don't catch on and start struggling, let them roll intelligence or something to put the pieces together.
Is there a reason we have so few games with a Gothic or Victorian inspired setting but a trillion rehashes of medieval fantasy, science-fiction or some eastern setting with katanas?
>>97406199Are cowboys Victorian?
>>97394046why would gothic be used as an insult? what, specifically, did they dislike?
>>97402587Would that I had his luck.
>>97406201No, but the victorian aesthetics existed in the United States at the same time as cowboys. It's hard for people to conceptualize, but the Victorian era spanned from 1837-1901. For instance, the beginning of the Oregon Trails times started in the 1840s and was heavily spurred on by the gold rush. The cowboy era was post civil war (1865) to 1880s/90s. A lot of victorian styles homes were built out West, but in the cities. People have a hard time conceptualizing that rural areas in the past were a lot different than they are now. It was harder to get to them and people still traveled slower. Much slower than today. Information as well. The settings and aesthetics are so different that it's hard to imagine them happening at the same time. Looking up inventions and first usages is interesting. The first car (motorized carriage) was 1885/1886.

>>97372108I got you covered: https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/2010/13062465/
I do think that STR and CON should be combined if DEX exists. Alternatively, DEX should be seperated in an offensive and defensive component (ie AGI). DEX does way to much while STR does almost nothing and is a dump for 99%of classes.
>>97399769I accept your concession.
>>97405915STR is a lot more important if the GM properly enforces encumbrance rules. Unfortunately 95% of groups totally ignore them since it requires a modicum of bookkeeping which the average theater kid is incapable of doing.
>>97405915Nah. Might is for close attacks and lifting. Agility is for ranged attacks and active defense. Toughness is for passive defense and recovery rolls. Might and Toughness affect max health, Agility affects Edge. All three are used in combat stunts, each may be used as baseline for at least one power, and each improves usage of different gear. They're all useful for any hero, and none is strictly better.

Perhaps he becomes Knight-Captain, and is given a parcel of land along with his new title. Or at least he is raised to Commander of the castle guard.Definitely give him a name. It doesn't have to be fancy, it shouldn't be actually. Perhaps he gives the party a very simple name, but if they meet again or overhear something about him a longer form of the name is used. >>97406203As the big good monsters *helping* the heroes kill the bad monsters. More like pagan gods than animals, really.
>>97406213There are multiple ways. One is to be an attention whore, if you foment a culture that encourages nobility to constantly praise you, they won't have time to plot against you. You can also consistently side with another social class that supports you and use them as a hammer against the nobility. You can have a secret police or spy force that it is loyal to you, and you alone. You can use parallel hierarchies, for example the church to reinforce your authority and by pass noble authority etc. In the end, it is a game of divide and conquer.
>>97406213A monarch who is broke is always beholden to someone. The most successful monarchs were those who secured independent revenue (like crown lands, colonial trade, or direct taxation) so they didn't have to ask the nobles for money every time they wanted to go to war.
>>97406238Can a monarchy do ALL of the above? To keep an Imperial Cult to legitimize their rule, maintain a secret police to hunt anyone who commits lese-majeste, and maintain a group of otherwise disenfranchised loyalists that owe their position to the King and can balance the noble houses? >>97406248In other words, a monopoly on the means of wealth. Is your experience with TTRPGs more broad, or deep? Have you played a variety of systems, or mostly focused on a single one? I'm interested in what modern /tg/ looks like in this regard. What year did you first play a TTRPG? For the purposes of this thread, we're not counting solo RPGs or one/two page games. In no particular order, list which TTRPGs you have played at least one campaign in, indicating editions if you think it matters.
