Necromancy Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

>I would rather see a map that's basically a scoreboard. And MAYBE interact with exploration somehow?
Like basically it's just a numbered list of various locations of some kind of interest or value (and maybe some unnumbered spaces if you want to fight but don't want to pick something of value for some reason?).

Each location has some kind of strategic value, and determines the number of campaign victory points for Win/Draw/Loss when you battle there. And maybe the types of missions that can occur there?

Then some can have a one-off effect (so a benefit you get for winning a battle there the first time; any subsequent battles have no extra reward). These could be artifacts, events, rituals, recruits - things that make sense as one-off results.

Some others have an ongoing strategic value (a benefit you get as long as you control that location), like an ammunition factory or... I dunno. Creative things. Then players can fight over control of it over time, and it can trade hands - but maybe its benefits degrade each time it changes hands (as it's "damaged" in the exchanges), and/or the person who takes it can choose to just "raze" it and make it so no one can get its benefits?

Then you could have one-off special event locations that trigger specific missions, if you wanted. Maybe things tied to the environment / campaign? Maybe they have to be done in a certain order? Maybe they have to be chosen by the 3rd / 6th / 9th / 12th round of missions if they haven't been chosen already?

Maybe some locations are only available if you've already done certain other ones (which could be those fixed story missions unlocking new options, or could be optional side locations unlocking more optional side locations).

On top of all that, include the base building aspect with your regional base of operations, and have that have all the expected effects. PLUS have the option to perform "raids" on enemy encampments for... some effect.

Because rules are almost non existent to the point you can easily play anything else and get more from it. Art even if well made is not for everyone and many might find it cringe or distasteful and look for something else. The author also tried a shitty cashgrab by making a mediocre 5e supplement so there's also that
>>
>>97362106
Labyrinthus and Lewd Attack also include actual lewd situations you might encounter while playing, other than having sex mechanics implemented. If you struggle to came up with lewd scenarios then using systems with such events built in will probably help, don't you think? What you usually like to play? Because knowing that could help you pick one or try both
>>
>>97362333
I use Fate for all settings I run. I tried to play Labyrinthus and Lewd Attack exactly for the reason you're pointing out, I wanted to see how it made things work, but I prefer simpler systems.
>>
>>97362380
Then you either start reading erotic novellas or try to use the tables from the systems. Otherwise you can't expect much from just using a generic setting with no attempts to implement lewd mechanics or lewd scenarios

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Anon, like you've been warned, the resident schizo troll is trying to ruin a good and constructive conversation because he wants to kill this general. If you stay, which we hope you do, you'll learn to recognise him soon enough.

The most sane way to deal with him is to either ignore him altogether or to insult him. Do report ANY rule-breaking comment per the 4chan rules.

Trying to engage with what he says thinking "this is so idiotic I'll easily prove him wrong" is counterproductive because he never engages in good faith, so you'll only increase the noise and help him shit up the thread.

Do let us know how it goes with your OSE learning and experiments, we'll be happy to help.
>>
Pbuh's dumb tantrums?

>>
>>97365423
I've seen him spend eight hours talking to himself while flooding a thread. Not even subtly, but deliberately so everyone would understand that if you tried to talk about OSR, he would shitpost in your thread for hours.
https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/96881801/#96888286
The kind of energy he puts into this sort of shit isn't reserved just for flooding threads with shitposts. He loves putting on samefagging puppet shows because he imagines everyone on this board is an idiot.
The /osrg/ goes from the deadest thread on this board, to a set of "why yes indeed" and "oh thank you" posts", and back to death, and he thinks his characteristic style isn't as plain as day even as he repeats his same little mantras.

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

I like tom and respect his opinion but I've grown tired of their slowly presented top 100 years ago. It'd be fine if they were either better at describing the essence of a game or had more visuals, as I remember it it was largely the picture of the games box with a 7 minute monologue struggling to convey why some nebulous concept in the game is really fun.

I've found from the grapevine that Jes Goodwin is soon to retire from Games Workshop

He really is the king. His concept sketches and absolutely timeless work on mk7 Space Marines and the Eldar particularly are worthy of the highest praise.

His influence will be sorely missed, though with how miniatures are often 3+ years in the pipeline before being seen on shelves, his legacy will continue.

Yugioh only requires skill at the deckbuilding level, which is fully obviated by netdecking. Zero to one decisions will be made during actual gameplay, all you have to do is memorize your deck’s flowchart. Two star complexity game at most.
>>
>>97362166
Uno is 2 stars because you can't win it just by having money.
Every other game there, except Magic, is 1 star because you win by just buying the most expensive cards.
Magic is 0 stars because it's not a game, it's an investment asset.

>Yugioh only requires skill at the deckbuilding level, which is fully obviated by netdecking.
Ahhhh if only that were actually true. You need to know your opponents comboes choke points and how to recover from your opponents interactions and hand traps hitting your choke points with less than ideal resources, likewise how to play through your opponents reduced board states. Maybe 10 our so years ago you would have had a point but not anymore.

>Orwells definition of Nationalism
I don't mean to be too blunt, and I am a moderate Orwell-enjoyer, but his definition is retarded. Nationalism has a root and an actual definition, neither of which relate to his definition, which is clearly just the definition of 'chauvinism'. Nationalism is a form of chauvinism, but not all chauvinism is nationalism. Nationalism relates to the family, since the root word is 'birth'. Patriotism is simply the male-focused version of the same concept, since the root is 'father'.

The idea that is Rome is not nationalism. It is imperialism, since it gobbles up nations under its imperial idea (even long before Augustus, obviously). We can call them imperial chauvinists, if you like.

>Faggy race communism ultranationalists
I'd call them faggy race communism ultrachauvinists. The nick fuentes of the world would be christian chauvinists (which we could just call christians, if it weren't for the supermajority of christians who don't even pretend to try to adhere to their religion). The Austrian painters of the world would be national and/or race chauvinists (ie. nationalism).
>>
>>97365145
>>97365195
That's not to say that there weren't Roman nationalists, but they didn't win out against the Roman imperialists. The Romans complaining about Germanic senators were being nationalistic.
After all, reactionary opinions to drastic change are normal, and nationalism is the default setting to fall back upon.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

Generally these are a poor idea.
They look like a fun tool to show you care about the table's feelings, but in reality either; they never see use (because most people have the same opinions on what's too gross to rp), or they're used in a very disruptive way that ruins the flow of the game and makes it difficult for the GM, and ruins the pacing and suspense for the players.

It's a Critical Role thing, designed for audience viewing over game quality, and with the expectation your DM or GM is going to be someone like Matt Mercer.

The better way to play is; talk with your GM beforehand to tell them anything you don't want to see in the game (because people do have personal triggers, it's a thing), but then if something comes up in game that you don't like, and the rest of the table is fine with it, grin and bear it until the end of session, and then have a private word with the GM.
If something gives you 'nam flashbacks and you can't manage this, it's okay. But it's more polite to everyone if you try develop 'bump tolerance' instead of insisting the table changes.

>you quiescence
Acquiesce. Quiescence is a noun. The verb quiesce means to be silent or to become quiet. or to temporarily inactivate which is not what you mean. You mean "when you comply without protest" which is "when you acquiesce".

Fuck no. I'm with >>97363378 and >>97363397, it's always seemed like performative bullshit by shitty people I wouldn't want to spend any time with. I can see why it might have gained popularity in the con circuit but even then it's just enabling people to be pussies.

Sounds like a massive red flag to me. Someone who's invited to join a game should not be trying to force changes to the group dynamic. I can only imagine the amount of drama she will create.

On average people shouldn't have triggers. There are people who have serious issues in their past but chances are good you're probably not going to play with one and when they do show up their the exceptions you should know about in advance. Otherwise anyone with a trigger is just a spoiled tit who was coddled to long and never learned how to deal with shit.
