About a decade ago we got a rumour that the Primarchs would come back (before it actually started happening).
Part of that rumour was that one loyalist would turn traitor and one traitor would become a loyalist.
So who's it gonna be?
Picture potentially related, Angron for ants.

What GW will actually do in 2029 that wil lhave everyone seething is that they will canonize Malibron as the lost primarch of the 11th and bring him back with necron tech and it'll be part of the Great Crusade subgame for Horus Heresy (which will also include the launch of the Laer and Goro Orks who used gravity weapons instead of the normal orkish guns).

Have any of you ran your players through the Theater Kid Wood Chipper? How many of them tried to stick something in Acererak's mouth?
>>
this shitpost again?
>theater kid liberals cant handle REAL gaming
it was a tournament module intentionally written to be as bad an experience to play as possible, and notoriously went through multiple revisions to remove any possible way of finding success from it. if your DM gives you this dungeon the only way to "win" is to pour your drink out over their head and leave. if you want to know why just look at any of the dozen other times this faggot has made the exact same thread

I am intrigued on the story of why they would intentionally do that. Was it a stress test or something?

Too bad!
That girl in the platmail bikini and miniskirt with hip pauldrons? Yep, that's heavy armor. And the girl wearing a high cut leotard and oversized shoulder pauldrons is wearing medium.
No enchantments
No macguffin material it's made from.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Overall, I liked how WoD handled the old Orcs. Particularly Gul'dan. For all the "it was just cowwuption!" bullshit Blizzard pulls on so many of their villains it was refreshing to see Gul'dan be unashamedly evil and just a smug asshole enjoying himself being evil.

>Tolkien didn't invent the word "orc"
No. He did. That the syllable existed and had been used before in other languages doesn't create an etymological connection between the prior uses and the modern use. There isn't one. The modern word is a construction of Tolkien.
>and wasn't the first to use it for some kinda monstrous being
He was. It previously meant "hell". Tolkien misunderstood a couple Old English references as meaning "demon".
>>
>>97370240
>>97374061
More to the point, even if the word had existed, it wouldn't mean there was some sort of mythological or folkloric basis around its existence. There isn't one. The surviving references come from a poem written as fiction at the time (and even there only as part of a compound word likely meant as a euphemism for draugr) and a glossary.

Orcs as entities do not come from folklore. They come from Tolkien. Or rather from D&D ripping off Tolkien, since Tolkien just meant for it to be a word for his goblins.
>>
>>97370240
>>97374061
>>97374112
And to further cement this distinction between orcneas and orc. Tolkien himself personally said orcneas as draugrs were the basis for his barrow-wights, ie not his goblins/orcs.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: what's the best classic GURPS cover art?

if you already have a physical version of the basic set then no I don't think it would be worth it
>>
>>97370622
I think all the new rules are gonna be shit we're already familiar with. If I had to guess at any "new" rules would be something with rapid fire always using random hit locations. Otherwise I am 100% on it just being a sidebar at the slam rules explaining the DF slam rules, or a sidebar explaining the alternate weapon skills from Alt Gurps, ect.
>>
>>97371234
"Q: What rules are in the addenda you mentioned?

A: The preview PDF on the book's web page will include the table of contents, but in brief: favorite new advantages, modifiers, perks, and techniques; expanded treatments of alternative abilities, Talents, disadvantages, and skills (regular and wildcard); widely used rules for equipment, such as cost factor (CF) and batteries/power cells; additional options for success and Influence rolls, physical and mental feats, extra effort, and other actions; more maneuvers, hit locations, and optional modifiers for combat; and entire systems useful on adventures, such as Assistance Rolls (AR) and Basic Abstract Difficulty (BAD). Space limits excluded multi-page advantages (like Control and Create) and additional chapter-length systems (like Ritual Path magic)."

I don't think SJG deserves money but if you don't think their actions are cringe then I guess ask yourself if avoiding having to read the word gypsy is worth 40 bucks or whatever it is they're charging. Even disregarding my 'bias' against them and moves like this I don't think I would think it worth it, especially if I already owned a basic set.

I've read good things about the OG Chicago by Night/Ashes to Ashes, though I'm not sure if the V20 Dust to Dust kept that quality. Other recommendations I've seen are Giovanni Chronicles and Diablerie Mexico, personally I can attest throwing newbies into Blood Nativity while making sure to keep the pre-embrace scenes brief makes for a fun time of "you're a vampire, now what?" before the coterie gets in trouble and you throw the Sheriff at them.
>>

I remember an anon recommending an adventure where your coterie was converted at a lab of some kind and you were trying to find your sire and understand your clan, so the adventure let you play around with starting disciplines as sort of soft-caitiffs. It was pretty interesting but I don't remember the name or if the guy himself made it

Isn't the remake generally considered to be worse than the Saturn? I know it has a censored script (even in the Japanese version, it's not a localization thing).
>>
>>97367769
Better in some ways, worse in others.

The remake is easier on the player in a lot of ways (lots of QoL improvements, easier controls/perspective), but they also threw in some tougher challenges towards the end while also giving the player a lot more bullshit to do if they're mad enough to try and 100% the game.

The remake actually gets a bit cringey at times thanks to its voice acting and how dated its art style and GFX has become, but about 20% of the designs are an improvement over their originals.

It's all well and good to talk about QOL improvements and controls, but if I wanted to play a dungeon-exploration game based on the merit of its gameplay I wouldn't be playing Baroque in the first place.

The remake absolutely butchers the aesthetic and atmosphere of the Saturn game. While those may only constitute the 'some ways' you speak of in which the original is superior, they are factors of such significance as to make the gameplay improvements irrelevant by comparison.
>>
>>97371824
iirc the remake is also kinda based on the manga too instead of the original scenario that they drafted up for the original game so elements contradict each other. I know the anon here claims that it's the point but the original Saturn release is pretty consistent in it's story.
