The Paladin has been POISONED! He will instantly die with no antidote. A Thief holds out the antidote and pours it all on the floor. 'Drink if you wanna live.'

The Paladin gets on his knees and licks the floor. He's feeling better already. But when he tries to kill the Thief, he finds out he has fallen. He just lost all powers!

Why did this happen? Simple. Honor is the soul of all Paladins with no exception. Without honor, there can be no Lawful Goodness.

There's nothing more dishonorable than getting on your knees and licking the floor like every dog.

That's the parable of the Paladin and the Thief. Remember it well.

In Japan, there was once a poisoned Samurai in a similar situation. A Ninja poured the antidote on the floor. Do you know what the Samurai did? He stripped out of all armor, took his Daikatana, and did Harakiri right there. His last words? 'I will never lick the floor like a dog.'

He died with great Honor and became legendary for it. Now THAT'S a Paladin!

>But it's not honorable to die!

The "legendary" samurai in question is, of course, from L5R:

https://web.archive.org/web/20120306083203/http://www.l5r.com/story/scenes-from-the-empire-18/
>“The tea… not poisoned. Antidote.”

>“What?” Noritoshi demanded.

>“Agents poisoned you… at the tea house last night,” Jimen said. “I thought that… if you sat with me… if we could realize how badly… we had failed… then perhaps we both deserved to live. But no… it is better this way…” Impossibly, Jimen laughed. “I suppose you could say… I win.”

>And the Emerald Champion was gone.

>Kakita Noritoshi looked at the dead form of his most hated enemy, then at the tea drying on the floor. In his heart he knew that the man had spoken the truth. There was tea still there, perhaps enough if he would lick it from the floor…

>“No,” he said. Jimen was right. He had doomed too many with his foolish pride and hatred already. If death was to come, then he would accept it with some semblance of honor intact. He would not be found curled on the floor, licking up spilled tea like some lapdog.

>Are orcs just misunderstood and oppressed?
Setting dependent. In my setting they're basically religious fundamentalists, but are willing to join other civilizations if they see a benefit for themselves. In some settings they're unnatural or demonic, in some settings they're just native populations, and there are other answers.

Yes! In fact, depending on the version of 5e its quite good.

In 2014 5e, Ranged Weapons in general are the best weapons in the game due to the power of the Archery Fighting Style, the Sharpshooter Feat, and Extra Attack. Great damage, high range, ignoring cover (Which 99.9% of creatures cannot do), the range allows you to usually maneuver around the battlefield to take advantage of cover and hazards to trick up your opponents. Battle Masters in particular are really good for this style of play due to them having combat maneuvers like Precision Attack (Which you can use after rolling to boost your to hit roll), Menacing Attack (Long Range Frighten for movement shut down and disadvantage on their attacks), Trip Attack (To trip foes), Pushing Attack (Push foes into hazards or away from allies or off cliffs), and other nice options to go with it!

2024 5e is a little different due to Sharpshooter not giving the big damage bonus it had in 2014, but it's still solid due to Longbows having the Heavy Property allowing you to get the Great Weapon Master feat- it just requires a wider stat spread than it used to. Hypothetically, you could get Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and still max out your Dexterity all by level 8 as a Fighter, which means you'll still be doing solid enough damage without the loss to accuracy that 2014 Longbow users were dealing with. Battle Masters are more or less the same, though at higher levels they get a great buff with Relentless and can be even more mobile than they were before.

Any ideas for how to incorporate Thieves Cant into games? I'm running Mines and I had the idea of the proprietor of The Sleeping Giant be a former member of the Neverwinter Thieves Guild who got her bag and retired. The signage would indicate to those in the know (such as members of the Redbrands or my Rogue) that the place is safe for unsavoury types. I'd also have symbols akin to Depression-era hobo slang near Tressendar Manor that indicate that business is to be conducted in the cellar and that the upstairs is unsafe to navigate.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Some authors just text dump worldbuilding details that end up having no narrative or atmospheric significance in large dry chunks. That's what people don't like when they say that shit.

It's like finding a grocery list in a horror game.

In fairness, that's cause human wizards created an ethnostate that deliberately suppressed other races and species including forbidding them from having wands or participating in government. There is a reason non-humans sided with Voldemort.

If I'm understanding your question and setting correctly:
>Aliens are real
>So are wizards
>Magic is as powerful as technology if not more
Seems perfectly fine
>Magic can only recreate real phenomenon by drawing energy from other dimensions and channelling it according to the wizard's will.
Wizard magic, no problem these are your rules
>Wizards create a spell that will create an ionised plasma shield
This were I raise an eyebrow, but only because you asked about it "working". I'll also preface I'm no expert in any of this

>Ionization is (very bare bones) the removal or addition of electrons from a molecule or atom.
Perfectly fine so far, no reason for a wizard to not be able to do this.
>Plasma, again VERY broad strokes, is fucking with the electrons to make something conductive and super fucking hot.
Again, wizards nbd.

>first stage of eugenics should be weeding out all eugenicists
While I appreciate the sentiment, there are practical applications of eugenics, such as Iceland's app to avoid cousin fucking or cascade testing and genetic counseling (both things recommended by the CDC and not just under this administration) to avoid children being born with heritable diseases.

That said, that sort of shit is generally not what anyone calling themselves a "eugenicist" means.

>We play games to escape the reality of the modern world
I play games because they are fun to play. If you need to "escape reality", you should be putting some effort into making your reality better for yourself rather than running away from it. Go ahead and shoot people if you like, but you won't because you are a pussy and, in fact, knows that you can't do much by yourself to change your reality. A loser by the very definition of the world that can't even enjoy their own hobbies without having to contextualize it by having to exclude other people or even the idea of other people. Downright pathetic.
>>
>>97405805
The DUNC expansions aren't that complicated. Just small sub-systems and power-ups.
>>
>>97407494
>>97407704
I also played recently with 2 other people and I didn't feel it was THAT swingy. You have to remember that the deck all players use are the same, so if you get an early lead, more likely than not, you had to use your stronger cards early and now has to contend with the other players that didn't do it. If anything, the biggest complaint the players had was that the combat was too random. The game kind of sells itself as having bluffing aspects, but it feels way too random with effects that add whole new cards to the combat way too easily.

It's also one of those games that if you know how to play even slightly better than the other players, you'll demolish them early on and completely discourage them from even trying to fight back, despite the game having a mostly decent power balance despite the assymetrical factions.

This is kind of /tg/ adjacent, but does anyone know if someone ever made an STL to make "shelves" for Really Useful Boxes? I know everyone recommends the Duncan video, but for the first time in 3 years, my list doesn't fit 2 bins. I have a bunch of wasted space that could easily be fixed with a print and I figured the youtube video was popular enough that it may very well exist.

Anon, that's something you could model in 3 minutes in something like tinkerCAD.
If you want something like stacking gridfinity on a larger scale, you may need to create it yourself. If you want to nest large models like in your image, you're going to have to create something custom.
The only stuff you're likely to find ready made is going to be fairly generic and not really all that efficient.

I don't wish to start bullshit, but this is the place to ask:
Is it easier to make a Captain America expy (hand to hand, uses shield offensively and defensively) of at level effectiveness (ie not hyper optimized ubercharger but serviceable in a group) in 3.5, or easier in PF1e?
I am not against initiator classes, but I would rather not run to them at first, viewing them as a crutch at times.
>>
>>97408218
I made a character in that vein in 3.5 a decade ago. Paladin/Fighter, worked decently well. Improved shield bash, shield charge, shield slam, dire charge. Weapon was a spiked shield, didn't last long enough to make it Returning so I could start throwing it.

Main issue you run into is getting feat starved, same as any character gimmick.
>>
>>97408218
>easier
PF1, probably.
>>
>>97408218
Not an abosutely perfect answer, but if you're willing to cross the streams a bit:

The brawler with this archetype is close:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/brawler/
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/brawler/archetypes/paizo-brawler-archetypes/shield-champion/

For some flavor add this to a shield from the MIC:
RANGED
Price: +1 bonus
Property: Shield (except a tower shields)
Caster Level: 5th
Aura: Faint; (DC 17) transmutation Activation: —
This streamlined, gray metallic shield is keenly balanced and features a razor-sharp edge.
While using a ranged shield, you can throw it in combat. The thrown shield has a range increment of 30 feet. While in the air, the shield is treated in all ways as a ranged weapon, and it cannot be blocked or grabbed except by those with appropriate feats. Regardless of your size, a ranged buckler or ranged light shield deals 1d6 points of slashing damage, and a ranged heavy shield deals 1d8 points. You add your Strength modifier and the shield’s enhancement bonus (but not its effective bonus from this or other special properties) to this base damage.

To be fair that doesn't feel creative at all, it reeks of corpo mandated nonsense since we knew they planned this at least 2 years in advance, maybe even 3.

Creativity is in an odd way what the guys in HH mechanicus used to have, the whole line felt like a passion project.

>>97408856
Yeah it's rough, you can kinda work around it since each of the gargants kinda faces a different direction but otherwise it's pretty samey. I'm glad each of the gargants I got (if not due to assembly foibles thanks to resin materials on 1.5 of them) is relatively different facing bare minimum.

I blame every single picture inside a D&D book needing to be a full color painting these days. So they get the bare minimum work needed for them to be passable before an artist needs to move on to the next one.

There's no more sketches or black and white drawings for anything anymore.

Have they used any AusNZ or Indian themed stuff in the PanOceania roster? I've just noticed the nordic themed one. So Europe collapsed but not as badly as the USA so there are some remnants?

Yes. IIRC the EU crashed during a severe economic crisis after the first wormhole expedition failed, while the US desperately tried to save itself from said crisis (and possibly a civil war or Chinese invasion? Not sure here) and deployed a nanotech WMD, which proceeded to turn half its territory into an uninhabitable wasteland.

I've read that the NA2 armies were designed in part as "bridges" between different armies, ways to play with models of multiple factions as you're buying in over time before you have two full armies. Do they really succeed at this objective? On a model level, in some it seems like you'd want to get their special character models more, on a painting level you'd need to have compatible schemes and basing between the armies so they don't clash visually. Are they halfway points in any meaningful sense on a gameplay level, or are they more their own little things?

Europe didn't as much as collapse as did become less relevant. Yu Jing started to gobble up most of Asia, PanO was Oceania+Philippines+Latam, even Africa started to flex its muscle in places like Nigeria.

Anon, don't look up what the actual wargame is played with.

It can be really, really fucking hard to revive lostech. Depending on the tech involved, it could be any number of reasons. The resources necessary to produce exact replicas might be extremely rare/exhausted. Perhaps the expertise necessary to manufacture the tech was never preserved/passed on. The blueprints/chemical formulae may be lost or forever incomplete. The supply chain may be forever irreparable because a factory that produced critical components for the tech (or critical components for another factory) got nuked. Building it right/wrong might result in daemons, leaving it to be permanently shelved. Or a particularly selfish techpriest might be sitting on everything necessary to reproduce the lostech because fuck everyone else, he found it and only he gets to use it.

Give a man from 1980 a processor from today and ask him to build more.
"How?," he asks. "This is beyond cutting-edge manufacturing technology. We don't even have the tools to build the tools to build this. It's physically impossible."
"I dunno, you're the science man. Figure it out," you reply.
So he futzes around with it, accidentally zaps it with a slightly-too-high voltage, and now it's irreparably destroyed.
And that's why they don't try to replicate DAOT shit.

>Terminator armour sucks, by the way.
For some bullshit reasons, at that.
At best, it makes you immune to SOME small arms fire, and melee weapons in the hands of regular humans.

It's Da PDF Share Thread!

Get ready to stuff your hard drive like it's 2025!

STEP 0:
<----- That image is not a PDF, it's an image, at least for now. Check the 4plebs link below to find the PDF.
PLEASE READ DA FAQ BEFORE REQUESTING OR SHARING.
It will answer 99% of your questions about this thread. If you haven't read it, we will know.

STEP 1:
Please exhibit good manners. Threads start sliding off the board after a certain number of posts. More posts wasted on being rude means fewer posts available for sharing.

STEP 2:
Request, share, stay awesome!

I hate always being That Guy but when you ask for the same product for seven threads straight and nobody gives it to you, that's when you either give up or buy the product.

This

Also, I have always believed that a LOT of the people who use these threads think that a) anyone who has purchased a given PDF owes them a copy, and/or b) that these are all just free somehow, and that no-one actually ever buys them really.

I use old requests I'm pretty sure no one has to wait the gatcha out and bump the thread the rare time it goes a couple days without posts.

If no one has them no biggie, if someone has it maybe a third party will enjoy it too. Where is the harm? Are you cringing imagining someone screaming and throwing a tantrum when you read a post that is just 2 words and a title? I'd rather see some repeated request than meta posts discussing the thread.
