Once I realized that LLMs don't follow PEMDAS, and just read equations purely left to right, it's been doing pretty good on the math. I do occasionally have to remind it of rules, though, but once I cranked up my "# of active Lorebooks" and assigned more tokens to Lorebooks, I have to remind it less.

I think most published adventure modules (barring the ones that run for an entire 4-6 levels) have between 1 and 4 days of encounters laid out in them. This feels like a weird way to do this but just coming up with a big list of encounters and then writing the story around the encounters seems like a logical enough way to go about designing an adventure. Probably a bit autistic tho
>>
Hey Merry Christmas friends :^)
>>
>>97238035
>if we had someone come up with a twofold system, one as the LLM to handle the creative aspects while the other was a hard-coded, "logic brain" program that handled raw numbers and rule interactions, you'd really have something special.
The biggest issue with that is that you've created exponentially more work on the back end. You'd be hard-coding for every potential game mechanic and a metric function of RAW library just so the AI didn't have to spend extra artificial-IQ-points.
I could talk about how this limits freedoms and the potential thing players can use it for, but we both know 90% of the user-base uses it for 5e. So I will instead remind you that software engineers are incompetent, lazy bastards that would rather undo 30 years of x1,000,000 level hardware improvement instead of actually learning to code cleanly and efficiently.
>>
>>97238095
Main issue is that later 3e/3.5 adventures get spongy and sloggy. Most DMs actually recommend having more or larger encounters with much lower CR creatures, that way encounters are over faster and the players can see their characters growing stronger. Boss monster should still remain boss monsters obviously.
Basically the skyrim model, lots of very easy encounters with a sprinkling of difficulty-spike enemies to remind players to stay humble.

There's a couple stores near me, all have some issues.
>One hobby store just recently started doing war game nights. Barely any terrain and is mostly 40k competitive players. No fun allowed.
>One store is more of a comic shop that only does card shit. Some employees are cool, but one is a huge cunt that freaks out over any question. Tries to push Thirsty sword lesbians constantly.
>One shop used to sell board games and rpg books and a lot of stuff. Even let people use tables for whatever if they bought something. Now they just sell cards, funko pops, and DND 5e accessories.

Only kind of decent shop is the GW here and allegedly one that is out of the way but still driveable near me. The GW has been one of the only pleasent ones I went to but you still get meta chasers every time.

My LGS has some people like that. I don't know how many people my locale shop has that looking for casual narrative games. It seems to be in an area where they arrange everything in discord before going to the LGS. The Pisscord "server" for my area is a Reddit hugbox shithole. Despite that, everyone ignored me when I asked if anyone wanted to walk me through how to play Killteam. I haven't asked if anyone wanted to play something non-GW, but I feel like my area is almost exclusively GW and WotC.
Also, I hate "social" media and have been on 4chan for so long that I don't know how to use these normie sites/apps.
>>
Plenty of FLGS around but one of my favorites was the one on the 2nd floor of a 2 level strip mall, right above a takeout Chinese place, neither of which faced the street. It was a kinda run down place with concrete floors, boxes of unsorted MTG bulk, some random 3D printed minis for sale, and random old gaming books. Loved that place. Chopsticks19 killed it. The other games stores all went downhill, as well as Magic itself. I miss gaming in 2016 to 2019. Playing DnD in the store was fun, sorting through old Magic cards was fun. I still went to the FLGS all the time til got laid off. Now as a NEET I barely ever go
>>
there's zero pictures online of my FLGS from the 2000s, which is surprising.

it was a warehouse in a village in northern England with a little shopfront. shared a big warehouse space with a shopfitting company, so the wargame crowd had access to wood-cutting equipment and other tools. middle-aged men basically lived in there like it was a pub, just making models all day.

for events, they'd lay out long rows of tables and then the younger crowd would come in for e.g. Magic: The Gathering tournaments. the place was still a mess with random scrap and tools lying everywhere (plus the owners' dogs roaming around) but it was amazing.

nowadays, the UK has moved more towards little 'gaming cafés' that are totally pristine and you all get cramped onto a small table to play D&D, usually paying by the hour. i hate it so much, bros.

MECTech is my system for mech-based combat.

Link to the rules that I'm about 80-90% finished with.

Why make an entire thread?
>Have enough content and questions to warrant it
>Hope to get enough criticism/feedback to gain the inspiration to finish it within the next day or so
>Main goal is just to talk about design philosophy with people
>The board is slow

Feel free to participate with questions or additions to any element of my system, or answers to questions that I ask. If you have your own design questions for TTRPGs, I'd be happy to give my 2 cents as well.

First topic presented for review will be my take on general actions and action economy which I think is moderately unique

Gotcha. I ask cause combined armed is my favorite part of battletech.
>>
>>97235149
Don't have experience with combined arms but it's got me thinking about non-mech units in combat. I personally think that mechs should be the focus of the system, but a section for non-mech units might be a good addition, even if it's just to show how much stronger mechs are in comparison.

DAMAGE TYPES AND RESISTANCE
damage is split into 2 types - physical and energy

>physical damage reduction is based on armor quality(DR1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4)
>automatic weapons (usually)deal d4 and d6 damage and can deal 21d4 in a single attack
>single fire guns and melee weapons tend to deal 1 or 2 d8/10/12 damage
>armor subtracts 1/2/3/4 from EVERY dice thrown
>automatic weapons have much higher damage potential on completely unarmored targets(“standard” armor is 2), but gets fucked dramatically more against heavy armor

>energy shields can be any frequency(die size) you want, and have a battery life of X amount of dice
>energy shields affect ALL energy based attacks
>energy shields halve damage of all energy-based damage dice as long as the battery holds
>energy shields that have a matching frequency to the attack(d8 for example) instead negates the damage

>There's a universal table that lists all parts of your mech, and its corresponding number

FRAMES AND CORES

Cores specifically are the main part of your mech. In universe, the core is both the ‘skeleton’ and operating system. The core determines HP, damage avoidance, weight limit, energy limit. The frame is a lot less important statistically, but it is what covers your mech so by name it’s important

Mechs are named after their core+frame and each of the three planets have their own naming conventions

Earth cores are named after liquors and frames are named after times
>midnight grappa
>Friday whiskey
>new years gin

Venus cores are named after iPod designations and frames are deific beings
>Durga 2P
>Helios XR

What are the funniest wargame mechanics you've ever encountered?

In Necromunda, the Cawdor Gang have a set of ambiguously supernatural prayers they can invoke for special effects mid game. Most of these are rolled to see if they activate at the beginning of the turn. One of them, however, grants extra jumping distance, as the Ganger beseeches the Emperor for the power of flight. This one is rolled for after you start jumping, in midair, so there's a good chance that the model jumps, and then you roll, and he plummets to his death. Good for a laugh, every time.
>>
The table to roll on when trying to get Henry VIII's wife pregnant and birth a son.

Only made all the more hilarious by the player shouting at one point during the game:"How the fuck do I get my wife pregnant?"

(Here I Stand)
>>
i don't know shit about wargames, someone post that 40k guy who built a wall of units around the edge of the table.
>>
>>97236410
In 6th edition 40k, poor wording lead to the Tyranid Pyrovore nuking the entire table when it dies with an explosion that increases in severity the more models were standing nearby. The intended rules were obvious, but they were just not written that way.
>>
>>97236410
In the original Necromunda there were certain missions that used the nightfight rules. There was a specific callout that the nightfight rules did not apply to a target that is on fire.

>>
>>97237504
This looks cool. :-)

>>97219278
I like the concept, but it depends heavily on what exactly the pre-apocalyptic state of the setting was. Was it a high-magic medieval stasis (or antiquity stasis) paradise, like Netheril from FR? If so, that makes a good backstory for structures like ancient, evil ruins and old dungeons and such.

I really like the idea of a pretty "standard" fantasy world that exists in the ruins of a modern or sci-fi civilization, where among the more recent dungeons of the typical character you might expect there's also ancient shopping malls and skyscrapers and crashed space stations and shit around. Bonus points if magic and such existed in the pre-apocalypse too and remnants of advanced magitech one might expect from a 21st century (or beyond) and there's dangerous but powerful artifacts the players can salvage or interact with. The only issue here is you'd have to either ignore the elephant in the room of guns and other modern technology that would cause mechanical or gameplay problems or come up with some reason they can't be used (or go through the probably significant effort of shoving modern firearms or laser guns or mopeds or whatever-have-you into whatever system you're running).
>>
>>97219278
>mage storms
Not magic, mage. Literally caused by wizards that have entirely lost themselves and become fonts of magic. Wandering as if in a dream, they make the waking world their nightmares.

I prefer whichever one is a part of a game, and a game whose play has fewer interruptions, and whose interruptions are shorter duration; but ideally, a game whose play has no interruptions at all.
>>
>>97237845
Okay, keep to your video games since we all know you don't play tabletop ones.
>>
>>97237838
You generally build defenses for natural disasters like the japanese.
Im sure the same could be done for a dragon given enough effort, ie if a dragon decided one day to roost right next to a large economically important city like smaug, but i dont think you'd bargain with or anthropomorphise them.
>>
>>97237640
In my setting, there were twenty-eight progenitor wyrms, born from the dreams of mortals. In dreams, they had held dominion over different aspects and archetypes, but the waking world doesn't operate cleanly along such lines. So, when they were forced to migrate to the waking world, the progenitor wyrms had an eye to conquest of one another. One would rule and then determine how dragons would interact with their new existence. And so began the great game, a centuries-spanning contest between the dragons. Even the basic rules of the game are typically kept from mortals, but it is known that each of the progenitor wyrms also chose a personal set of rules that govern them and their offspring, servants, and conquests. These rules are typically kept secret, but they define the nature of the dragons--not only can a dragon be punished by the rules of the game for breaking a rule, they are sometimes literally incapable of doing so. The layers of complexity and opacity principally serve as an excuse to avoid having to define all the details of how the game works, since letting my players know all the rules of the game would quickly turn into them trying to figure out how to game or break the system.

Because a dragon's rules define them both physically and metaphysically, they're incredibly varied. Some have rules that encourage them to play complicated political games with mortal nations, pulling the strings from behind the scenes to advance their position in the game without mortals ever realizing that several prominent nobles are secretly minions of a dragon. Others have rules that encourage them to be aloof but approachable, a difficult-to-find oracle whose prophecies might be of use to heroes but who sees little reason to allow just any mortal to find them. And others have rules that encourage direct, violent conflict with mortals. So it all depends on which dragon you're dealing with.

Depends on the dragon:
>Some Dragons exist on a level above Kings and are paid tribute.
>Some Dragons establish their own empires with their own bureaucracies.
>Some Dragons are a dangerous animal: their only interactions with civilized societies are violent.
>Some Dragons use shape change or illusion to blend in with the local dominant society.
>Some dragons lead secluded and isolated lives.
Fuck off with all that freakshit half dragon, dragonborne shit though. I want dragons to be unique and powerful creatures of legend, not a neighbour running a coffeeshop in every street.

3rd - fighting style of your choice
3rd - weapon mastery with Longbow and shortbow
6th - enchant arrow +1
6th - extra attack, cast cantrip as 1 attack
10th - enchant arrow +2
10th - imbue arrow, magic action. Cast a spell with a slot and attack with a bow. The spells effect is centered on the arrow. 1 per intelligence modifier per long rest.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.

I'm expecting the leopoldoids to blow up this post but buddy, I don't think God is in the picture given what we have to deal with. That, or he ain't a loving God.

>>97236557
Yeah, and I knew a guy who swears he saw "the other side". Like you know how a lot of old fairy tales involve an otherworld? He caught a glimpse of it when trying to hunt one. It was all thorny and overgrown, and everything was green but at the same time not. Things still had their own colors but it was like a green filter over everything like the orange filter movies use for mexico.

Evil is simply too busy since it's work is truly endless. Make sure they get a life off AKA kill them.

Parasites with mind control? Demonic possession? Secret government project? Could be anything. That does not sound good, they better have someone they can call cause I got a feeling that this hunt is gonna be a hard one.

Well shit that doesn't sound good.

I just think I'll be hiding the book on my person. The scamp doesn't really fully talk often but it's not terrible conversation.

Breaking Bad's Mexico filter is quite a classic. I wonder if some other alternate dimensions have their own filter? Have been somewhat opening my eyes to the possibility of things outside of our reality.

My money's on some sort of government parasite that's gone out of control.

"God" being callous is oddly fitting with what plagues us. The yearly forest fires on America's west coast could serve as evidence. Rumors from survivors fleeing the disasters mention seeing figures in the infernos. The more delirious accounts involve beautiful wings.

My fantasy campaign just ended with a rally fun fight against 8 dragons. I get to take some time off as the game master, and that's hella cool.
Beyond being a game master, I'm also one of those worldbuilders that the What Game Fag hates so much, and my players have asked me for my next time running that I run in this sci-fi post cyberpunk setting I've been making for my own fun. I never planned on running it, just making it to feed my autism.
I'm happy to do so, but I'm at a loss for the kind of campaign to run.
I want to avoid cyberpunk gang warfare, but that's the only idea I actually have. I got about three months before I have to run, so I want to get ready early.
Please, on this Christmas Eve, tell me what kinds of other campaigns I could be running in what is effectively a Cyberpunk Megacity on a different planet.
If it matters, the ruleset is Savage Worlds.
If it matters, the game I get to play in until late March is Gurps Dungeon Fantasy set in Ultima post U5 but before U6.

Racing or tennis?
>sci-fi post cyberpunk
That's not a great deal to work with. Obvious cyberpunk missions are delivering data, stealing data, destroying data, or stealing and delivering data. Or anything you can do in most settings like kidnap some guy or destroy something. I'm not really sure what you're after.

You could go for being a corpo hit-squad, though that might tend too close to gang warfare. Though it could be fun having to hunt down the main antagonist because they keep brain uploading like a cyber-lich.

>Rally fun
>Racing

An F-Zero kind of campaign could be pretty dope. Focus on the racing, but then there plenty of other stuff to do outside of the main events like secure sponsors, "aquire" parts to soup up the vehicles.

Check out SLA industries and watch movie called Brazil.

Could play a bunch of AI trying to escape a megacorp server rack.

Could run a campaign where you're playing a bunch of investigators, trying to track down some information, criminal, or secret megacorp project that was stolen/broke out.

Could still have a more traditional violent campaign where you play as assassins, trying to false flag some group for your faction's gain. Less constant warfare; more plan of action, coverup, and escape.

I had no idea how much I wanted this. Hell, the actual races themselves wouldn't even necessarily need to be that much of a focus during sessions--the politics, the backroom deals, the cheating, the mechanical issues, you could run a whole campaign around it without ever having mechanics for racing.

nice anon, I'm just working on some bases today. I ordered a bunch of stormvermin off trolltrader and will finally get a block going. should tidy off my skaven nicely. Also FINALLY bit the bullet and ordered 2 rattling guns, went with 2 of pic for variety. I'll still sneak a warpfire thrower into larger games but I do miss its 6th ed rendition.
