If you survive a nuclear strike in a mech does it protect you sufficiently to not die from radiation exposure? Are nukes dirty enough for that to be a concern to start with? Could a mech operate around a melted down fission reactor like at Chernobyl?
>>
>>97285825
They can survive in space with all the cosmic radiation, so I would think the pilot would be protected.

youre going to have to find some way to decontaminate the outside of your mech if you ever want to get out without growing a second head

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

Its hard to do it with campaign games as youll likely be upgrading or swapping equipment on units as the campaign progresses, so I just stick to something that can be approximated. Like ill make a model with a 1 handed sword, but in the profile I can just say its a 2 handed sword when I pay to swap the weapon out,, or a bolt action rifle is a semi auto rifle if I swap it out.

Its why its good to have a theme or intended upgrade path for units so you have something to model around. Remember, you really need about 20 models in reality for this, youll be adding and upgrading units over time.

Imagine if 40k focused solely on Imperium fighting against Chaos, at the exclusion of every other faction.

My brother's married and he comes over to learn games (usually at starter deck levels) to this day, but he's just so low commitment we never get to see real constructed battles of anything. I admire the fact he's a good sport about learning whatever game I'm playing though. Some things never change, eh?

Do I play that game anymore? No, but I thought about surprising my brother with a new star trek deck and trying to get him back into it. The game plays really well, I can't remember what the flaws were because it's been decades since that story time. Maybe one day I'll build two really good construction decks and we'll have a go, for old time's sake.

Presently he's the same bro that bought me Gothic starters for the holidays, so I'll be teaching him that next. He's in for a real treat with that one, I reckon. The Doom decks have some nice teeth to em, unlike the older ones.

As for DOA BVB, we use to legitimately play it for the mechanics. When my Bro first rented it from Block Buster me and my freind pulled an all nighter taking turns with him, playing the mini games and getting some sick volleys in. Great times. Miss the simpler days, as I'm sure others can relate.

That's cool that he still comes over and plays on occasion, even if it's just with starters. Life can really get in the way when we get older (I turned 40 yesterday, which just feels weird), and I'm thankful that my friends and I can still find time for our hobby on occasion.
We might try Sorcery at some point if any of our LGS decide to stock it. The real issue is finding time. We have so many fun games we have decks for already, and a handful that we haven't even learned to play yet.
I hope you and your brother have fun with Sorcery! Sounds like he found a great gift for the two of you to share.
>Miss the simpler days, as I'm sure others can relate.
Without a doubt.
>>
>>97285674
First off, happy birthday. Hell of a date. I'm years off from turning 40, but it's nearer than I want to admit.
>The real issue is finding time.
That's the biggest game killer of all, making schedules and locations line up perfectly so game jams can commence. I pine for the days of having a whole weekend just for gaming, but with how busy things can get, especially during the holidays, it's easy to have that game jam get pushed back months at a time. What's important is keeping at it, and not letting the dust settle so hard it just kills your drive to try new things.
>>
>>97285733
>First off, happy birthday. Hell of a date.
Thank you. And yeah, the date certainly made for some interesting birthday parties in my youth.
It's definitely a challenge sometimes to get together, but if we plan well enough in advance it usually works. We just have to put in a bit of effort and enjoy it when the opportunities arise. It's nice that we have the internet to connect us, but nothing beats getting together in person, even when it's not as often as we'd like.
>>
Serious Question: How do you justify spending on a game like Sorcery when your local scene is made of 4-5 people?I got myself interested in it, but I'm afraid of there having nobody to play with

In WEG' D6 Fantasy orcs, goblins, ogres and bugbears are created from other humanoid races. The most handy and large scale method is just burying humanoids to a cursed ground, which causes them to deform and rise again as mentioned evil races. They can also be created by corrupting humanoids through magical torture, and through evil races raping other humanoid women which results in offspring of evil race.
This is all mostly done by evil wizards who want obedient minions who do their bidding as long as they are given something to hurt or smash on regular basis.

I mean, it is a matter of taste really. I personally just find the sleeker look of the Eldar in 40k better than the look of the fantasy elves. They share ovious similarities so I can't say that I dislike the look of the fantasy elves on any serious level, it just has some elements that I find to be a bit too overdesigned.

Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.
Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.

You roll skill checks if there's a chance for failure you numbnuts. Just like every fuckin game. In DND for example.
OSR games: if you're a thief you get a chance to disable the trap, if you don't disable the trap you have to find a way to engage with the trap.
For 3.5 if you have a disabled device check of +20, you only roll for really difficult traps. Otherwise you have to deal with the trap with resources or saves
4e :skill challenges.
5e: everyone has a chance to disable the trap, but the guy with thieves tools has a better shot.
Legend of the mist: if there is a lock that does nothing if you fail the skill check, you just bypass it if you have the skill. If failing the skill check would activate a trap or summon guards, it becomes a whole ordeal that's not too different from a 4e skill challenge

Osr: if there's combat, you treat it like war and get unfair advantages.
3.5/5e it's a whole new game you have to play
LitM: combat has the same rules as challenges. Fighting some roadside bandits should put the same amount of stress as a cliff side rock slide. Combat is like a 4e skill challenge
>>
>>97285776
>4e skill challenge
oh
ew
>>
>>97282512
I've always looked at it as "these moves are the only actions relevant to gamify." You can do anything in a PbtA, it's just that the moves are supposed to only be triggered when something is worth rolling for.
>>
>>97283948
If they genuinely wanted to discuss the game, they should probably post something other than obvious hollow ad copy in the op.
>>
>>97284096
I think it says a lot more about you and your play group than it does the game that you see abstract tag mechanics and think "obviously this is going to result in an argument."

Oh, okay. I was caught up on the other guy's 3-to-1 comment and wires got crossed.

I don't see Arc Light getting banned over Habakiri, though. They know it's a problem in every format, and it's getting reprinted in a set which is a death sentence for powerful cards. Being in a structure deck did not save Artifact Scythe, being in the Rarity Collection did not save Baronne, and being in Legendary Modern Decks probably won't save Habakiri. Or at least not for long after it's released.
>>
>>97285971

Herald retrain with proper xenolocks to avoid compatibility with other unintended engines like Drytron would probably be okay. I still think Habakiri is the reason that Arclight is considered broken now, but I'm not losing sleep over a herald ban either way though. I'd honestly just prefer they errata Habakiri to solve the problem without killing pure Yummy, random rogue ritual decks, or pure Mitsurugi, but unfortunately Konami doesn't like doing that.

because people in the old times actually believed in the stories about monsters and demons so when they inevitably appear they weren't taken aback by the existence of such creatures.
meanwhile, us modern folk have been brought up with the notion that science and logic disallows the supernatural. As a result, when the supernatural happens our very worldview shatters to pieces along with our sanity.

People legitimately don't get Lovecraft. It isn't being afraid of a fish or that you don't matter, it's the fear of finding out you're on a ticking time bomb, you don't know how long's left on the timer, and you cannot get away, ever.

Anyone have the more recent Shadowrun novels? More particularly, the Blackbird trilogy by Zimmerman?

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

This is some genuine nu-White Wolf cope. The Get are strength fetishists sure but they aren't so ignorant as to think only physical strength and SMASH THE WYRM NOW is the only thing that matters. The books regularly talk about how they appreciate intellect and mental fortitude as well, and that strength is more than one's ability to throw a rock real well. All the Garou tribes have their ups and downs, CoG for example are much better natured and more likely to resolve things amicably and peacefully, but they lack a strong familial focus and their method of treating kinfolk in a laissez-faire manner without actually treating them like a proper family, because of "muh commune", is directly what led to shit like Samuel Haight.
