>Though no quintessence or gnosis cost, as well as no paradox generated too. It’s a wonder why it isn’t more widespread.
it was made so american sleepers could fight fera in the soviet union during the cold war. I guess because during said cold war baba yaga who in wod is a nosferatu methusulah ghouled a bunch of mages and created a magical shadow curtain that made supernaturals unable to leave or communicate with people on the outside using magic and since baba yaga is currently dead and the cold war has been over for a while now they just been collecting dust presumably because first teams, hitmarks and such are just cheaper to deploy

>I’m looking at the Dex part, does that affect firearms rolls? Or any attack roll?
should be a yes to all attack rolls

>but I know medieval full plate armors impose penalties to Dex. Like -2 or -3. I don’t know how it’s played out though
let's not pretend armor rules are well designed or balanced in wod

> I suppose that mecha suits/iron man armors might have dex penalties too?
sorry i don't know enough about mage to answer that part. I been a player in mage chronicles before but i never had power armor in these

1999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbat. But then in early 2001 the interim prince stepped down with no successor so the game is gonna be set in the big scramble of who can become prince
>>

>1999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbat
Really? Guess my mental timeline's fucked. Thinking further on it: Wormwood/Anthelios would have been visible in the sky to anyone with auspex for a couple years at that point. With such a recent takeover that would amplify the paranoia about outside attacks to 11 even among nod-denialist factions. I bet the nascent Chantry would try to shift blame onto Assamites just out of spite. Any Sabbat packs still lurking in the city might pick that as an opportunity to extend what little territory they kept hold on. Hell even Anarchs might make a play.

>Huh, someone once told me/read somewhere that horizon realms were the exception?
Horizon Realms are Otherworlds. Maybe once they were more hospitable but after the Avatar Storm, the Horizon Realms are supposed to be borderline inaccessible and not longer a home away from Earth for mages, sort of like the Umbra in W5.
>The second you reach arete 6 the world is giving paradox like crazy for each second you exist there.
Not really. However, more powerful mages are more likely to incur more permanent Paradox as they permanently augment themselves with vulgar enhancements and create vulgar Wonders. Such mages can't afford to linger in standard consensual reality, so it's much safer to hide in a reality zone that's more tolerant of their reality deviance.
The best places for such mages to hide out were Horizon Realms but with those gone, powerful mages have to choose between living exclusively in places that pander to their paradigm, avoiding any sort of permanent vulgar magic, or constantly being at risk of massive Paradox backlash.
>I understand that the main attraction is the politicking and survival on Earth, but it’s like if D&D never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster.
I don't think it's quite that bad. The positive side is that the lack of a personal demi-plane for archmages to run off to means that they need to be much more careful with how they conduct themselves, that Paradox will always be an issue that can't be easily circumvented.

But for people who don't like that and enjoy the interdimensional gonzo side of Mage the Ascension, you can just ignore the Avatar Storm stuff in your game. M20 makes it clear that everything connected to the Avatar Storm is totally optional.
>>
>>97826133
>>97826309
To sort of talk about Mage essentially being like if DnD never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster, this isn't entirely accurate but it's not also inaccurate. Sorcery is more like your traditional DnD spellcasting, Mage is like trying to be a Mage capable of 10th level magic in DnD while the Gods constantly hound you and point at you and go
>No, you shall not
It's not quite to say that you cannot indeed, but rather that the level of craftsmanship, roundabouts, and sneakiness you need to really pull off the crazy Magic requires a lot more legwork from the Mage and the ST than just flat out if you are not allowed to be a spellcaster. You can't just be a gigachad fleshcrafter on Earth in broad daylight as a human lifemage but if you were to run some Resident Evil-esque biological lab deep underground who's to say that normies' poor understanding of what scientists actually do would lead to Paradox? Sure "zombies" aren't real, but if a bioweapon or something got out that did fucked up shit then oh well, it's just science or something.
On the other hand if you and the ST have like no imagination, yeah it can look like DnD if no one is allowed to cast spells because the nanosecond you make a literal fireball your eyeballs burn off your head because Paradox or something. Mage at the enjoyable level probably has a bit more autistic arguments about theology, lore, media, and normies than most tables are willing or capable of imo

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?

I remember a HFY about an engineer that got captured and the insectoid/lobster interrogator defected to the humans side. Something about how their society had a 0 tolerance for failure and their media only reported successes
>>
On thought, I think the only instance of HFY I can think of that still holds up to me would be Gargantia on the Verderous Planet.

The trick with that one is it's about space humans fighting aliens, but the aliens are also just humans who bioengineered themselves to live in space and in doing so abandoned humanity and eventually sapience. It makes the conflict more philosophical in a good way.

also there are robots and they fight.
>>
>>97826390
(deleted post there because I thought that my older post didn't go through, then it somehow did)

And you're right, I suppose it wouldn't at that point be a HFY story but rather a more typical scifi story where the humans just happen to come out on top
There "is" something intriguing though about having humans in this circumstance win not because they're most adaptable or have some kind of human spirit or anything generic like that which is what human-positive scifi tends to do

but rather because of a quirk of our biology that just happens to favor us in a particular circumstance
doubly so because it also opens up plenty of "what if's" in the form of scenarios where the aliens have a biological advantage, and figuring out which would win out in the end or maybe what sort of technologies we would focus on more than them and vice-versa

again, we're probably not even remotely HFY here, and this definitely would not appeal to the sort of person who thinks breathing oxygen is a superpower (for fucks sake if an alien doesn't breathe oxygen THAT would be the weird thing) but a scifi story where humans have to rely rather than on technology, on biology, has potential
especially because it would be unexpected, biological advantages are usually given to the designated "brute" race or the insectoids or so
>>

I pretty much never lose Ticket to Ride, even when players actively target me. Although one time I did get a perfect score of 22 in Splendor. (Bought a 5 point card when I had 14 points, and aid card also gave me a 3-point noble tile).
Dice Combat is weird. I love it in Hoplomachus, Summoner Wars, and Eclipse. I hate it in WOTR and War for Arrakis. It's a game by game thing.

Nah, kung fu is a more subtle gateway to the madness of the cosmic truth of Lovecraftian horror. Sure it starts like any normal martial art, but the deeper you go the more it strips you of your normal human impulses and warps your perceptions. Extreme training that dulls your reactions to bodily urges, food and sleep deprivation that detaches your mind from your senses, meditations designed to attune yourself to cosmic energies. Soon the only thing you're consuming is medicine and potions, carefully controlling your breathing and posture, and puncturing your skin and burning herbs on your body to align these energies. You detach yourself from earthly concerns, what actual meaning is there in law? In morality? In sanity? If you have the willpower and have survived long enough you start extending your control over the energies that flow through you into the wider world, even sapping it from other beings around you. Soon it's not enough and you start hunting down anything that might grant you more control, to swell your form with those energies. You kill all in your path, you know you are nothing against the infinite of the cosmos so they are less than nothing. Their blows are turned with the palm of your hand, their blades and bullets tear hopelessly at your fleshy tether to this universe, the pitiful wounds knitting with nothing more than meditative nod and breath from your lungs. Soon the trinkets are not enough. You take from the source. The mewling feminine sex are nothing more than cauldrons of energy to plunder until they're cold, empty meat while those who would call themselves men are a garden to be harvested for your alchemy. This universe is but one layer of many that rise to grander and grander heights. To be mortal, to be human, is to be blind; your eyes are open and you have seen Mount Tai.

As the other anon explained, what you describe was a byproduct of the communist takeover of China, which however had nothing to do with Wing Chun. Traditional Kung Fu styles were pragmatic, even vicious personal defense system who were largely based on advanced biomechanics, designed to survive brutal street fights and sect wars. Kung Fu masters of old were larger-than-life individuals who could, in theory, led rebellions against the CCP, and cultural icons who were bastions of individuality and tradition. It was an ideological imperative for Mao to have people such as Ip Man, which he regarded as "reactionary neo-feudalists", hunted down and neutralized before they could become a problem, intentionally or accidentally, and that explains why most old masters fled to Hong Kong, Taiwan, or even Europe or America and set up shop there. CCP went on to make two "politically correct" versions of Kung Fu: one was Wushu, (which is essentially gymnastics) the other Sanda (an heavily sanitized version of kickboxing). Paradoxically, if you're searching for actual Kung Fu that is made for fighting, not for entertainment, you have a better chance of finding it OUTSIDE China, nowdays. Wing Chun is one such system: Ip Man's lineage came into existence pre-Mao, was refined in the then British-controlled Hong Kong, and spawned a plethora of successors all around the world. So, yeah, Ip Man was the real deal, and neither he nor his students are to be confused with whatever Wushu puppet get promoted by the CCP nowdays.

>>97826030
It totally did. It's a well-documented fact that Ip Man used to be a cop before and during WWII, and trained other cops in Wing Chun. Some of them even went on to fund other Wing Chun lineages themselves.

EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

Lemurian chart could be fun. Something like Fatebound-Fateless and Spiritual-Profane.
>>
>>97821722
I think we could stand to swap some spots around. My own personal interpretation of the axes:
>Progress/Tradition
Progress represents the attempt to make use of the madness. To innovate and iterate upon it.
Tradition represents immersion in the madness. To embrace it and become one with it.
>Absolutism/Wingdings
Absolutism represents both a baseline level of intelligibility to mundane humans and a desire to control the madness. To wield it, rather than be consumed.
Wingdings represents both a deviance from baseline humanity and anything it would understand as well as submission before the madness.
>>97822835
I propose Fatebound/Defiant.
>>
>>97825786
I figured that the Hyperborean chart was factional rather than philisophical.
>>
>>97822835
Pious-Profane and Prophecy-Cultivation? They're all Fated. Prophesy and Cultivation are intertwined, at least to my mind, but most units obviously focus on one or the other. Above-Below would make sense as an axis for them, instead of Pious-Profane, as some units obviously have more to do with higher layers than others.
>>
>>97821722
Just out of curiosity, what do the wingdings say?

hey thx im gonna use this stuff in my ASE game
>>
>>97825475
Not that I know of. Honestly you might wanna look at newer editions for inspiration. Someone in one of the 2e threads made a cool looking 2e sorcerer
>>
>>97825475
try spells and powers book for 2e, it has alternate ways of spellcasting rhat you might snipe.

otherwise, maybe look at 3e/pf cleric domain powers and stitch them in??

Looking into Castles and Crusades (with various rules tweaks) and considering other options for spending XP.

Are there any decent rules for skill training or similar in an OSR that you like?

Thats a wrong retarded definition with no grounds in reality. This entire thread is a bad fakth cintainment thread designed to try and shift trolling into while /osrg/ remains hijacked.

I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?

I am pretty sure it's still somewhere around

Maybe some version of it got saved to some discord or something but the official WOTC tool I had all my characters on is gone

>What is lacking in PHB1, DMG1, the Rules Compendium, or any setting specific other book that would be necessary for a DM to provide for interesting roleplay or exciting encounter building, if not both?
Information on wilderness travel and encounters. 4th edition recommends treating it as an extended skill challenge, which is a boring railroad design. The traditional setting of the Forgotten Realms has a lot of rich history and lore, and 4e doesn't do jack and shit with it. It actually is credited for ruining various settings during its era.
>>
>>97826242
So you actually do not intend to address the real meat of my question, which is how does any of that improve 4e in its function and to its strengths? Is there a specific reason to detail the exact percentage of trees and of what type to forests in the game? Or the number and depth of hills within the area between flatland and mountain ranges? If you want setting specific details, those are covered within the setting books, and DMs can use such description to carry the idea for what PCs will need to prepare for navigating the wild item and/or skill wise. If you're looking for general terrain issues and hazards that might make the navigation itself dangerous, those too are covered within much of the DM's content side of things. If all you seek is the pedantry of charts and boilerplate information as though any of that actually makes roleplay, exploration or combat more interesting on its own merits, then yes, 4e failed you. Though I'd argue that was to great success, as all that information is ultimately useless for a game that treats itself as a game.

As for the settings, beginner level DMs for the game probably don't care about established lore so long as they can make use of the setting to run a fun adventure for their tables. Experienced DMs don't need established settings or lore to make compelling adventurers, so it's not likely they would care either. This is just a problem for fans of the novels/games at best, and lore pedantry at worst.

the design is made by a fan of 40k instead of a fan of sci fi and history
>>
>>97825698
This honestly seems like a problem to me because most of the good 40k stuff was designed by people who were fans of sci-fi and history and wanted to make a 40k equivalent of said things.

I'll grant you this looks more like the fattened greebled M3 up there than say anything else in the ranges but that's just an argument that it /could/ fit in an Elysian force.
genuinely like to see you post more so i can learn how retarded you are

Old Guard stuff is great because the real-world inspiration is immediately obvious but at the same time it's also radically different from the thing it's based on and there's an extra layer of original design language on top that blends all of these elements from radically different time periods and design philosophies into one cohesive whole. The people who designed the Leman Russ and Chimera and later the veritable cornucopia of heavy metal that was golden age Forge World had an incredible depth of knowledge and passion about that kind of material that the modern 40k design team just doesn't have any more.

it'll fit right in beside the leman russ i suppose

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.

And I finally bought lutherans cus the plan is to build my own cavalry force with two disciples, one patriarch, one Corsair, and one fusilier as the riders using rough rider or knockoff horses with gas masks. The missing cavalry is the only reason I always thought lutherans sucked.

Shin Megami Tensei. I think it's fairly doable already, any "near future" ruleset you could homebrew a monster summoning mechanic into would do it. But it would be cool to have models for stuff like demonica suits (slightly redesigned, because the original ones do look pretty stupid) and the classic SMT demons.

Where do I even put this on the alignmen chart?
There's collectivist angle allowing "all people" to pursue their dreams, which is pretty Lawful.
But also dependence on slave labor (drugged out of their mind to stay content and compliant), which seems pretty Evil.
Or is ensuring the working class doesn't suffer kind enough to shift towards Neutral?
Assuming high fantasy, not mudcore where the peasants make over 90% of the population.

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. Talsorian Games.

Most of what's in single player mode should've been in the core rulebook. We should have an augmented reality style city builder for block generation built in.
>>
>>97743613
oh my god they did it again. there are about a dozen tables like this in the solo play rules
Do they actually not know distribution? for fucks sake just roll a D12
>>
>>97826307
innovations in not understanding distribution... so maxtac are more common than NCPD?
also for the previous if they'd just included one less option in each table it could have been a D10. why the fuck are they like this
