This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

I tend to do simple flowcharts for natural caves rather than maps, with long, long narrow passages that you sometimes really need to squeeze through in order to get from one chamber to the next. It helps provide a slight change of pace and format so that natural caves feel distinct from dungeons, and it's also how a good number of actual caves tend to be.

It's an interesting philosophical departure from OSRIC, and it's good to see that Matt Finch was able to evolve when a lot of the OSRIC contributors never did.

Realistically, what would happen first if the Emperor woke up?

I wonder if the main reason he didn't want to be worshiped as a god is because the prayers would change him. Humans worship him and have created him to be some merciless being demanding reverence and since belief is power in this setting I wonder if he would be changed into that by now.

>gameplay
For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.
>fantasy settings
They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.
>loadouts for fantasy
If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

>modern settings
Post-industrial settings can be somewhat challenging. You start to see very compact spaces like sidewalks, offices, and very "human-centric" spaces. In battlefields, trenches, and "no man's land" tend to crop up, so charging into battle is a less appealing option. How would you deploy a tactical centaur? What would be their loadout?
>modern loadout
Given their profile, there are a lot of spots to hit with a bullet. I'd go with a lightweight Kevlar with plates on the human section, and a helmet too. Maybe a frontal lower plate for the region below the human/horse junction. The legs don't need as much protection, and mobility is key, I think, so they're better off with less weight overall when it comes to armor. On the battlefield, I think they may be best served as logistical support and scout vanguard-style troops. I would avoid putting them in direct combat since they're such a big target.

Honestly, most of them. The high elves and dwarves have probably the least modability, but even then you could do tons. I even saw a guy way back with a Nordic tomb king army.
But for a more direct answer, beastmen, WoC, and Empire I'd put at the top right now for fun, color schemes, and modability combined.

8 Insane Synthetic Monster (+ 1 winner)

>The Combine and the Suns feel like prime territory for some Marches or Dukes to start getting real ambitious in
For the 3rd Star League to be able to have realistic victory both the FedSuns and Combine have to be so fucked up that they can't resist Clan Wolf plot magic. The Lyrans and Jade Falcons are accounted for, the FWL is accounted for, the Capellans got accounted for by the Ravens, Ghost Bears took themselves out, and the Dracs took out the Fed Suns. We know the Ghost Bears are trying to unfuck themselves politically by going after the Dracs, and that the FedSuns willingly allied with the 3SL probably just for help to unfuck the Dragons Tongue.
So the Dracs are probably getting DPed by the GBs and FSs.
Do you think the Arkab region will go rogue, just so we can have an independent Space Muslim faction?

Clan culture itself is hostile to any natural human way of life and actively seeks to force those that live within it to endure the most miserable, spartan, alien existence conceivable.
When east germany and west germany existed, it was overwhelmingly east germans fleeing the culture and regime of the warsaw pact, not the other way around. Deteriorating but not catastrophic economic conditions and an awareness of a vastly more comfortable system just existing was enough to cause a leading superpower and most of their puppet governments to collapse.

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different.

I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times.

Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.

>Now, am I gonna want to play your own personal little homebrew "system" that you just pulled out of your ass after six months of autism? No. There are tens of thousands of game systems and most of them all have far more professional design work and playtesting than your never-been-played-before bullshit. Be realistic and exercise some humility, some self-awareness. The odds are, your personal little toy is actually just D&D or GURPS or whatever with a few house rules, so be honest about that if it's true and you'll have more interest.

It's a full book that came together over the past three years. We've already done four rounds of playtesting so far and integrated player suggestions each time.

It's not a modded D&D. It's not even a D20 system.

Puzzles with specific solutions are stupid. Just put big-ass obstacles in the way of your players and roll with whatever zaney bullshit they invent to "solve" it. Don't even worry about having a solution planned. There's a giant impenetrable wall. See what they do. They'll go kidnap a griffon and fly, hire sappers to dig underneath, or raid an enemy army's camp to get a siege tower. Wind them up and let them go. You don't have to worry about "puzzles."

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

>A young woman lets out a cheer as she beats a man of the same age in an arm wrestle. He wears a suit of gleaming gothic half-plate, while she wears a hauberk and gambeson. After the contest has ended, the pair enjoy a hearty meal of turkey and maize together.
>An old man wearing a ragged cloak over equally ragged clothes nurses a cooling cup of coffee while watching their antics, stirring in a spoonful of sugar after an exploratory taste.
>A woman sat on a stool by the bar takes in one last drag of her cigarette before she stubs it out in an ashtray. With that out of the way, she tucks into a pumpkin pie that is waiting for her.
>A man with dark skin pays for his meal with several unfamiliar coins, before brushing past you on his way out the door. He wears a vest made of soft leather over a loose cotton shirt, and has a long sword in a sheath strapped to his back, ready to be drawn at any moment.
>A young girl greets you animatedly and offers you menus. She asks if any of you were interested in buying some of the potato and rabbit stew that is currently cooking, or if you'd like rooms for the night.

>>It's seven in the morning, and everyone is having their breakfast.
everyone in the tavern is having breakfast, which isnt suprising given that travel is expensive and as travellers we arent about to be out working a field at 5am
>>You see in the corner a young man in studded leather chatting animatedly with an older woman in heavy armor.
neither of those are anachronisms
>>A young woman lets out a cheer as she beats a man
based, 10th century mogs 16th century every time. plus he's rich enough to keep his cutting edge imported armour polished so he's probably a larping prince or something. not suprising he'd be beaten by an actual soldier
as for the food a turkey is any exotic guinnie-fowl imported through the near east. there are half a dozen native north african maizes that where cultured through europe at various points
>>An old man wearing a ragged cloak over equally ragged clothes nurses a cooling cup of coffee while watching their antics, stirring in a spoonful of sugar after an exploratory taste.
sugar imported from the far east? he must be a rich wizard. same place as the guinnie-fowl actually
>>A woman tucks into a pumpkin pie
she cant afford a pipe for her hemp? a pompion is any kind of edible gourd, so it's most likely made of a melon
>>A man with dark skin

we where trading between the ivory coast and balkans in 1300BC, a black guy and unfamiliar coins isnt exactly surprising. beyond that there are indiginous asian, african and indian cottons, and carrying your sword on your back when you are in a tavern is much smarter than stumbling around hitting it on things

I go and kill the man with dark skin because I'm racist but keep it on the downlow at the table and gave my character a flimsy in-character rationale for this kind of thing.

>An old man wearing a ragged cloak over equally ragged clothes nurses a cooling cup of coffee while watching their antics, stirring in a spoonful of sugar after an exploratory taste.

This is maybe the most 'actually' egregious one since both sugar AND coffee have only recently stopped being an insane luxury due to more capitalist/mercantilist(?) kinds of attitudes about making money. The other ones could/can change due to different geography, ecology, customs, culture, but the availability of sugar and coffee is an actual fundamental economics/supply issue.
Coffee & chocolate, in the past were grown on "temple plantations"; where they would supply a very small group of priests and noble people as an insane luxury. 'Modern' coffee & chocolate likewise still has to be grown in low-labor conditions that are typically exploitative.
Sugar is in a similar, but different, boat in that in the past there's been exceptions: sugar cane was grown by Southern Chinese & Taiwanese peasants as a kind of personal-spending-cash-crop in small allotments, in almost a similar way to how Greek, Italian, and French, peasants all kept vineyards. Though, after 1888 the Germans/Russians domesticated the sugar beet which cuckolded a lot of the sugar industry. Sugar beet is very hardy, can grow in cold climates, poor soil, and doesn't tax the land like sugar cane cultivation can (Brazil, Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba, both experienced insane levels of soil nutritional depletion caused by excessive heavy sugar cane cultivation. Haiti and Cuba for a small period were literally made sterile by sugar cane.)

There's your effort post.
