Moloch's Fun Park Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97218224>Martial Path anons, what do you hope to see happen in the MP?Some early looming threats from the Ghost Domain, some bigger clashes against the cult, and some fun slice of life content. Honestly nothing too specific for the MP as a whole. If we can get one of those big incidents that pulls in all or most of the cast, that'd be pretty nice. For Shahua in particular, some tomb exploring, building up some friendships, some more focus on the Ghost Domain threats than the cult itself, and maybe if things drag on doing something about her illness beyond simply tanking it.>>97226244>Martial Pathers, how does your build fare in outdoors settings?Perfectly fine. Shahua is used to walking around the wilderness for tombs to repair, maintain, or purge, so she's got experience. Also helps that her professions give her lots of options. Pills can substitute food and water for lengthy periods of time, alchemy can also make stuff like bug and beast repellents, and even making a small one-floor house through talisman formations isn't out of the question if she needs to sleep outside. Even getting lost is fairly unlikely since formations are usually founded on feng shui, and if you can't tell which way is north you'd be pretty bad at that job...Her supernatural elements make her pretty well equipped to bypass all of the issues involved, basically.
Which MP are still around. I haven't seen any comments from a few characters in a while now and would rather focus on active characters.
>>97230779>Which MP are still aroundYou mean characters for Martial Path? It's a bit of a strange period of time to ask that since we are right before the holydays, people have stuff to do.
We've reached the point where GMs are now producing AI slop responses both in and out of character.
>>97223412We found a map of the dungeon and my GM just posted the ChatGPT "Give me a 5 room dungeon" response he was using
>>97230565How is that meaningfully worse than using a tool like donjon to generate one?
>>97230686Because at least Donjon can fill out rooms and treasure properly, ChatGPT just gave him vague ideas as it was trying to guess what a dungeon should be
>>97230565>5 room dungeonprojectile_vomit.mp4
>>97223329I don't mind people using AI on the hobby as long as it's just a tool and not something that vomits out your entire character for you. As an eternal GM I'm absolutely against using AI for entire characters ever since a player tried to pull a sneaky one on me two years back and gave me the most generic, stereotypical, soulless character I've seen, so much so I actually got angry he wasted my time. Nowadays with things getting more advanced, I allow them to take suggestions or even major plot snippets for their backgrounds from it, as long as they write it and brainstorm the whole themselves.AI is great as a tool and when used correctly can really improve your quality as a GM/player. Even better in the art department, if you take some time to avoid generating soulless and obvious AI images and do more nuanced stuff which you edit/draw to give you more of a human touch. Hell, things lile notebook from Jewgle even helped in summarizing extensive texts in quick infographs (that yes, I needed to correct in a few parts) for newbies in busy weeks when I could go on a call/meeting every night. >>97223412You'll have people playing characters they don't have any idea how to play as because they didn't think through their personality, traits, what each part of his life brought him and such. I have predicted about 100% of the AI-written characters people sent me, even when they tried to rewrite something. For some reason the lazy fucks never bothered to make the text itself any less generic and soulless.

>>97230750>by what fucking metric?By actual difficulty. Cunning is one of the most brutal cards in the game. If you don't have Dash innovated by the time you go to fight a L2 lion you instantly lose because of Cunning. Even with Dash, nearly every survivor is going to have to Dash nearly every round just to avoid Cunning snowballing the fight. It's basically a DPS race to try and wound the lion out before you run out of survival to spam Dash with.
I haven't bought a model since like 2023 maybe early 2024. When I bought Dante he was like $35. What the fuck happened? This is legit robbery.
>>97221959Given most of GW's actually decent games are skirmish ones, yes obviously they are cheaper. You're looking at 1-2 boxes of minis for a complete force, so around $60 on the low end to about $150 at most.
Its not just the prices, its the points values.Go and compare a 2k army from 15 years ago to one now. You need way more minis. Its why I always advocate for games with smaller point values. Playing 1500 or even 1250 means far less money spent. Or hell, go play a skirmish game. That way you only need like 10 models. You'll probably have more fun because 10th ed is fucking dogshit for fags.

>>97226845>You’re paying a premium because they ship them from Nottingham in England to you guys on the other side of the world. This is why Warhammer shit is generally cheaper in the UK and Europe than in the US and Australia. The whole reason why GW prevent people from ordering overseas is that a box sent by air freight is vastly cheaper than the domestic markup for the cost efficient containerised surface freight poor widdle GW are going to be transporting most of their models overseas with. >>97227682I disagree. excluding DW the insanity system has concrete mental illnesses you have to roll for like night terrors or compulsive disorders. A chaos worshiper could end up with these but that would be from having regular traumatic experiences not the metaphysical concept of etheric corruption. It's also clearly different than the twisted outlook brought on by corruption and it wouldn't really work as a single mechanic. The insanity mechanic isn't just "he's craaaaazy" kind of characterisation and more an actual mental disorder you can point to medically. i.e What parts of the DSM 4 apply to Kharn the Betrayer?

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.
Been kind of working on some custom 8th edition stuff lately since I've been playing it a lot. Custom cards and datasheets if anyone wants to see. Honestly I've had an idea in mind this week to create a sort of "alternate" 8th edition ruleset with some stuff from other editions and redone Primaris.
>>97226129>>97226123You sound like an utterly insufferable cunt. Stfu faggot.
I enjoy playing some Index era 8th casually from time to time, it feels a bit like core book 3rd and as long as you aren't dealing with WAAC tournament grinders (which nobody still playing 8th should be having to deal with) it is a very fun way to play the game as far as Modernhammer editions go. I still mostly play 2nd, a little 3rd and 5th but Index 8th is the newest form of the game to exist in my rotation and I don't see that changing for a long time.
>>97217254>Least delusional Eldar playerI remember 3rd was when the delusional BS started, online all Eldar players were discouraging everyone from playing them as they were for advanced players only when all they did was stick starcannons on everything.Saying 7th taudar was only dominant a short time or that it was only as bad as necrons is pure delusion. 1000pts of taudar can easily table 2000 pts of necrons.
