Plenty of FLGS around but one of my favorites was the one on the 2nd floor of a 2 level strip mall, right above a takeout Chinese place, neither of which faced the street. It was a kinda run down place with concrete floors, boxes of unsorted MTG bulk, some random 3D printed minis for sale, and random old gaming books. Loved that place. Chopsticks19 killed it. The other games stores all went downhill, as well as Magic itself. I miss gaming in 2016 to 2019. Playing DnD in the store was fun, sorting through old Magic cards was fun. I still went to the FLGS all the time til got laid off. Now as a NEET I barely ever go
there's zero pictures online of my FLGS from the 2000s, which is surprising.it was a warehouse in a village in northern England with a little shopfront. shared a big warehouse space with a shopfitting company, so the wargame crowd had access to wood-cutting equipment and other tools. middle-aged men basically lived in there like it was a pub, just making models all day.for events, they'd lay out long rows of tables and then the younger crowd would come in for e.g. Magic: The Gathering tournaments. the place was still a mess with random scrap and tools lying everywhere (plus the owners' dogs roaming around) but it was amazing.nowadays, the UK has moved more towards little 'gaming cafés' that are totally pristine and you all get cramped onto a small table to play D&D, usually paying by the hour. i hate it so much, bros.
My local LGS has weird opening times, open only a couple of each day at different times. I have tried to turn up when it says it will be open, but it is always locked then as well, usually with a 'gone for lunch' sign in the window. Who goes for lunch at 3.10pm? I think it might not want enyone to enter and may be the front for a cult or money laundering.
Mine had a minor controversy that got some smalltime youtubefags whining about it for a bit related to a prerelease special thing sending the store an extra box and the rules of the production company saying they could do whatever with it including selling online, which resulted in accusations of them selling people's preorders leading to the loss of a distributor and not being able to host events for things made by that company. It was for a card game I actually wanted to play too, I still got my preorder for the prerelease stuff without any issue and got it early because I wasn't one of the discordfags stirring shit. Now I have to buy my cards for the game online for worse prices instead of getting them there.
>>97238208>nowadays, the UK has moved more towards little 'gaming cafés' that are totally pristine and you all get cramped onto a small table to play D&D, usually paying by the hour. i hate it so much, bros.Damn are you me? A "gaming cafe" has opened up near me just in the summer, it's alright but it only has cuck sized tables, soulless 3d printed 40k terrain and charges by the hour, with a full game costing about £7.50 a person, which is frankly ridiculous. Still, when the other LGS in my town is an old pet store with exposed brick and wiring all over the walls and smells and has old pet store stuff everywhere, maybe the "gaming cafe" is the better choice. Anyway I drive into the city to play at a club in a card store where the tables work out at about £4 a game and there's great terrain.

>>97218678What have you done for Calibration in your campaigns? And have you ever used Five Days Darkness?
>>97241846I've never really heacily featured Calibration in my games. I've had Calibration-adjacent things, and plothooks sort of cause by Calibration, though. One game featured a city-state close to a Shadowland where Calibration was time when dead relatives walked out of the shadowland to walk among their living kin. Player characters, who were Dragon-Blooded and in various degrees into Immaculate Faith, put an end to it. The same game had a bit with a village that had been taken over by a teodozjia who'd slipped out of Malfeas during last Calibration. Players put an end to that, too. I've had no real big in-game happenings during Calibration itself, however.
With all the infernals talk I saw one or two threads ago that Devil Body Incarnation wasn't well received in Essence, how would you fix it if you didn't like it ?
Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?
>>97235095>…tactical…Lancer…gnostic…tyranny…grid-based tactical combat…the GM is also building up resources…Sounds awful
It looks so soulless and derivative. Even AI could do a better job. Fucking hate chthonian paracausal biblically accurate LBGTGRIWEOHRDSOFH+ trash.
For as much yip-yap that /tg/ players have about hating trannies and basedboys the games that actually get play is mostly just OSR games and that is just a mildly more edgy version of 5e.Not that your game looks very good either, not much of a Lancer fan.
>>97241960>Promethean-grade Hylic Rejection FieldMm. I think I have determined why the game gets such a poor reception on this site...So the tactical combat phase reminds me a lot of ICON and Gubat Banwa, less so Lancer and 4e, but I think I get how this is meant to work. And then the strategic phase seems to include the players (collectively?) spending strategic resources, unlocking the tech tree, and maybe doing stuff like you'd find in Armour Astir's "Conflict Turn" to advance the course of the war, is that right?Would that make the recon phase analogous to Lancer's "Downtime Actions," a mix of RP scenes and building up some benefits to use in the next fight?
>>97242444It is certainly a wordy game. I will be the first to admit that it frontloads a lot with a lot of in-universe jargon and buries the lede in terms of what the actual structure of play on the campaign level looks like.ICON and Gubat Banwa are better points of comparison, yes. Yeah, STRATCOM is spent with the players and the GM taking a couple of turns (as many as is necessary between tactical combat sorties based on strategic map movement and other factors) moving about the map, encountering shit on the overworld, spending resources, constructing buildings, performing rituals and other actions that affect the pace and the standing of the ongoing conflict. And RECON is, in fact, the unstructured, "narrative layer" play, mostly for exploring Dis, pursuing personal objectives, and finding cool shit in the Chambers, Vaults and Caverns under the city. It's kept deliberately loose, and most of the points of interaction relate to the tags you assign to characters and gear during chargen. Like, with Lancer's pilot-scale gameplay, it's probably going to be the most controversial part of gameplay for players who don't jive with something like Blades in the Dark. Also, notable is that you never roll to attack during TACCOM. The forces of Hell are overwhelming. Everything around you wants to kill you. The air you breathe? The microbes in it want to perforate your lungs. The ground beneath your feet? Would love to open up and swallow you whole. You can't swing a stick without hitting something that wants you dead, so why bother? Damage is still randomized, and enemies don't roll to attack either, so careful positioning and risk management matter even more than in Lancer and ICON.
What's a character you always wanted to play and what's stopping you?

>>97238091Undead Pirate. Never a good sea campaign, also I prefer to round out the party.
>>97239363Has anybody bothered to stat out Selkies as a race choice? Or would you just play him as a human because without his cloak he basically is one?
>>97238091I'm waiting on the perfect DDA game to play a diigimon that goes Sistermon Blanc > Sistermon Ciel > Some sort of vergil-themed sistermon digifake > same for the mega who is super chuuni and tries way too hard to be edgy despite the rookie looking like picrel with a shank, with a tamer who's basically her tard wrangler and is just tired of her shit.
On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
People put humans with forehead bumps into their settings because they want to fuck them.People put weird freaky space aliens that look nothing like humans into their settings because they want to fuck them.
>>97240164for me mass effect-level strikes the kind of balance i want in a game. there's enough variety with the secondary races that it doesn't feel totally limited, but they're still relatable and "pulpy", for lack of a better word, to make things smooth for actual gameplay.
>>97242244That seems really reductive.
>>97242177Well, sure, via sufficiently advanced genetic engineering modifying humans into all kinds of exotic "aliens" would be pretty trivial but would they really be aliens at that point? You could of course do the whole ancient precursors or even past human empire that has collapsed etc type of justification being the reason why galaxy is filled with what are essentially modified humans, but that begs the question of "are these even aliens?" again.
>>97242473Think of it this way: if you need a GSB, almost surely you could justify it via genetic engeneering (even with advanced furfaggotry and such) plus ancient aliens doing their usual bullshit as needed. Maybe some wetware implants.I mean, it's cheap, but so are GSBs. If you want something more or less interesting, I suppose you could go full autistic and ask yourself why there is a whole ethnicity (if that's the right word) of humans with funny noses or whatever.

>>97239625Another thing I’d suggest is this:Substack com/pub/castlegrief/p/7-hex-codex-pt-1This is a series about designing your own little 7-hex mini settings. It’s fantastic. But being able to draw goes hand in hand with this.Overall, yes, having some sort of artistic ability is a huge boon for RPG/solo RPGing
This is possibly a silly question, but for those soloing games with target numbers for dice rolls (skill checks, etc.) do you have any particular tricks or rules of thumb for generating them or do you just go for your best judgment as though you were normally GMing? I'm on my second session of my first real attempt at a solo game (Worlds without Number using MUNE) and I can't help but feel like I'm just kind of fumbling on unopposed rolls where if I was making these same calls for actual players I'd be way more confident. Everything else feels pretty great so far.
>>97241929Use a standard scale, like d20 roll over mork borg’s scale for example, and then tweak it as things make sense in your situation or worldJust outline like 4 numbers, so a child’s play, an easy, a normal, and a hard. From there, you can start from one of the four generally based on vibes and slide it up or down if you think it’s appropriate. More often than not I don’t slide it.
>>97241272I do things like that, or if the room description piques my interest I'll work out something with that. like sometimes it says something about "torches flickering" or wahtever, I'll do an oracle roll to see if they're torches I can swipe or whatever. tapestries, I can try to pull them down on the enemy to encumber them. just going outside the core gameplay loop

Yo,I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the Blades of Khorne 4th Battletome. I can't seem to find a digital copy anywhere
>>97242329A thick layer of moss is a centimeter thick, and a mini is roughly 1/48 to 1/64th scale. That means that a THICK carpet of moss would, on a miniature, be less than half a milimeter thick. I just don't think trying to sculpt volume on moss in a 32mm miniature makes any sense whatsoever. None of these look like moss to me. If someone really wanted moss, they would probably be best served by mixing baking soda with dark green paint, using that like a very thin texture paint, and then highlighting with richer greens and yellows.

Hey, all. Merry Christmas.I'm looking for a recommendation for a simple fantasy skirmish game. I'm trying to get my wife to play a few games with me over drinks and, as much as I'd like her to play Mordheim, it's just not gonna happen. I need something a bit more simple. She's played a bit of D&D before (like twice) and some Heroquest, but not much more complicated than that. I was considering maybe Frostrgrave, but I think the amount of spells and stuff could throw her off at first.
>>97242400Brutality Skirmish is very, very simple as long as one of you is comfortable cooking up stat-lines. It's a lot of fun too. Encourages a weird mish-mash of stuff and dumb metal behavior
>>97234285I'm working on mine. 36 figures is kind of a lot, especially considering they're all different and I don't want to do up my medieval peasants and watchmen as some kind of football uniformed team. I'm a beginner painter as well. You need a ton of terrain for this game. It's supposed to be pretty fun though, I'll get to actively posting in this thread when I have played some actual games. Rn just under half the box is painted. I'm using the old Catan cardgame art for inspiration which is fun and nostalgic.

When we getting a white Unstoppable card?
It's been about 5 and a half years since "Hound" was errata'd to "Dog". Do you think this change was good or bad?
>>97242204Literally never. Kikes hate White.
>>97242358Why?
>>97242340I'm mostly indifferent. It gets complicated because Hound ultimately competes with Wolf as fantasy creature type and Wolf is wildly more popular. They're both canines, but we linguistically subset them. And werewolf falls victim to this, too.Meanwhile, cat as a creature type has always been a mix of both housecats, lions, and leonin. So it's always been easier to create tribal support for. The dog update feels like it was an effort to give the subtype more attention, but never properly addressed what the real problem with its design is. So it ended up being an easy but pointless errata. The only way to realistically give Hound proper support while maintaining flavor is to errata all wolves and hounds to canines (and werewolves to human canines), and all cats to felines. But that's more complicated than I'm willing to ask for.
