>>97235615I think this would have the opposite effect. Where you no longer draw into the handtraps you want because they cannot be searched for while engines have consistency tools and the ability to play more engines. Sure you can play more handtraps but there's only one card that's Ash/Nib/etc. Whereas there's a bunch of engines that bridge to others and consistency tools to get to those engines. They would have to print consistency tools to find interaction cards which is shit like the charmies and maxx c, which I would consider a bad idea.
>>97236000>The problem with modern yugioh is that there is no collector marketThere is but they're even more autistic than the players and only consider a very specific subset of cards collectable like 1st Ed GX-era ultis.>the gane itself is impenetrable for new playersThe chief cause of this is that Konami doesn't make any effort to bridge the gap between teaching players what a Link Summon is and performing a simple 8 step combo with one of the simpler modern archetypes. Players are hit with an information complexity wall that isn't really a cardpool issue since 3/4s of the cards printed aren't something you'll realistically ever see. More robust tutorials on identifying choke points against unfamiliar strategies (using your Ash on something they discarded a card for cost to try and draw or search 2 wit or using your Ash on something that SS' from deck after they've used their normal summon are pretty safe plays against an unfamiliar deck for instance) would go a long way.
>>97236000>no collector marketThat's a good thing
>>97235731I'm sure you're already aware of Duel Masters Play's, though I have no good answer for you on why they haven't bothered with an official EN version of it

>Thirst Provoking ImageMy fantasy campaign just ended with a rally fun fight against 8 dragons. I get to take some time off as the game master, and that's hella cool.Beyond being a game master, I'm also one of those worldbuilders that the What Game Fag hates so much, and my players have asked me for my next time running that I run in this sci-fi post cyberpunk setting I've been making for my own fun. I never planned on running it, just making it to feed my autism.I'm happy to do so, but I'm at a loss for the kind of campaign to run.I want to avoid cyberpunk gang warfare, but that's the only idea I actually have. I got about three months before I have to run, so I want to get ready early. Please, on this Christmas Eve, tell me what kinds of other campaigns I could be running in what is effectively a Cyberpunk Megacity on a different planet. If it matters, the ruleset is Savage Worlds. If it matters, the game I get to play in until late March is Gurps Dungeon Fantasy set in Ultima post U5 but before U6.
>>97236045>rally funRacing or tennis?>sci-fi post cyberpunkThat's not a great deal to work with. Obvious cyberpunk missions are delivering data, stealing data, destroying data, or stealing and delivering data. Or anything you can do in most settings like kidnap some guy or destroy something. I'm not really sure what you're after.
Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different. I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times. Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.
>>97228205>>97228209You really need to stop trying to force this completely imagined dichotomy.
>>97228209I don't see what any of that has to do with the Hickman manifesto.
>>97232124There's no dichotomy but continuity, one path leads to the other, that's why you need to master both>>97233834Here's the actual one:1. A player objective more worthwhile than simply pillaging and killing.2. An intriguing story that is intricately woven into play itself.3. Dungeons with an architectural sense.4. An attainable and honorable end within one to two sessions playing time....as you can see i simply expanded the meaning of each point for clarity.
>>97232001It sounds like you spent a long time running a game where there were no real consequences for anything, swerved into a game where there were serious but complex and unpredictable consequences for everything, and swerved again to make the consequences more straightforward and obvious. And now you're wondering why your players are struggling to keep up.Did you discuss these changes with them, or just expect them to pick up "clues"?
>>97232001Have you tried putting in place systems to give players tips/answer their questions in a very explicit way?I play Mini Six a lot, and one way you can spend a Hero Point (akin to inspiration in 5e) is to get info from the GM. Sometimes that's a "I'm stuck" but sometimes that's more like "Hey, GM, we're trying to X but worried about Y. What's your take?" and the GM makes a best faith attempt to put the players on the track they want either by saying "I wouldn't worry about Y" or reminding them of the Y expert they met two sessions back. Generally characters are more plugged-in to the world than your players can ever be, so it's not a cheat to give players a limited resource that mimics that connection.Plus, if the way to replenish that resource is "go do hero shit" then you get a virtuous cycle of players knowing what to do and then getting it done.
>>97230476Is it any good? I liked his previous OOTS stories
>>97233474>He's back, but he's not JUST Elan's brother anymore.ftfyNale is making it extremely clear, and the context is supporting, that this is not the same as the past encounters. He is a character who has personal motivations unrelated to his brother and his father this time, and his brother just happens to be involved.
>>97235651maybe the next few strips will prove me wrong, but so far it feels less like Nale really changed and more like he's convincing himself he changedinstead of constantly talking about how he's defined by his brother and father, now he's constantly talking about how he's NOT defined by his brother and fatherhe's still not free of their influence
>>97232693Well, he IS in Hell... or HIFL.
>>97235675It could be the case, but I think that establishing that "no, actually, this is not like that" isn't unreasonable for him to do. We'll have to see how he acts in the coming pages.

Any problems you have with Warhammer 40k/Games Workshop over the past few years, anon? Do you see it getting better or worse?
>>97228681Thanks, anon.
>>97223139The lore of 40k has been circling the drain for years, the gameplay is even worse and I think you need a reset on the magnitude of 8th to unfuck 40k currently. But they won't, because they are making more money than ever from newcomers to the hobby. So 40k will continue down the road of enshitification it's been on for a while.
>>97229880As someone who played warhammer fantasy before I am baffeled how important named named characters are for the 40k armies, in fantasy they were fluff pieces that were banned in tournaments.I really do not like that I have to play angron instead of a no name greater demon or korn, I used to enjoy playing with my "own" army with namless lords and heroes.

>>97233803That sounds like a lot of LA. I know sneople were hard to play in 3.5 because of it.
>>97234578LA was inflated partly from a really awful process around it (just look at Savage Species overriding its own results for being stupidly high, or that one time it was explained and looked too weak so the writer added a racial hit die as an improvement...) and partly because a LOT of the designers didn't actually want people playing Weird Shit.Given what Totemist can pull in the field full-time, such a package COULD have been quite cheap.

Soon gonna GM the BFRPG "Monkey Isle" module, anyone that got any heads up or tips when it comes to GM OSR hexcrawls?
>>97235777Yeah, play a much better game.. The only reason bfrpg ever existed was because BX was hard to source in the early 2000s.Bfrpg is a half baked dumpster fire that is only still an extant novelty because it is "open source".Mechanically, the game is just bad, and the content for it is some of the most unpleasant dry material I've ever digested.
>>97235777Didn't run BFRPG specifically, but here are my 2 centshexcrawls are driven by two things, random encounters and rumors. Monkey Isle seems to have a boring random encounter table, too much rolling for encounters (roughly 3 times the amount compared to the original Isle of Dread), and lacks a rumor table. The latter is a game killer on such a giant map. Players need to have rumors to direct them towards points of interest. My advice is to think how are you going to handle it. You can make a random rumor table yourself or have specific rumors about several close by POIs prepared which are going to get presented to players in village X or Y.PSDon't listen to the BFRP hater
>>97235857Actually do listen to the hater, because this isn't an echo chamber and if you're going to be posting on 4chan of all places you should be expecting to hear all sides.

>>97235422True, but also debatable. Having a character or other model capable of monster slaying at minimum provides a disincentive to the enemy. The threat of monster slayer is frequently more important than the ability itself. Also against a T7 monster you're already only wounding on 6s, so you're not fishing any deeper than normal.

>>97235935>Players do not like being messed with and "interrupted" , it creates negative play experiences that affect retention.Didn't stop millions of mtg players back in the day, sounds like a bunch of pussies to me.
>>97236038I think it is stupid and purposely limits the design space but it just is what it is trendwise. Star wars unlimited, all the bandais.Easy example is them fixing issues with digimon by creating an entire keyword around being able to digivolve on an opponents turn but it has a lot of restriction and deterrence from overusing itIt helps to remember that only a few games go full sweat anymore, most are just trying to make a buck selling art. So if you make a game system that doesn't make the players pissy if they ever do play that is always the goal. And I can say that oppressive playstyles like milling your opponent or heavy removal, or heavy counterspells to take from mtg turn a lot of people off and we are constantly told that, and those cards are limited
>>97235903>so many ACG focus on hero main charactersthere's two reasons to do that, and the reasons are pretty different depending on the implementation:>#1 Avatars as class/faction selectionthis is where you pick your character or avatar first, and then that decision heavily limits which cards you can use. the reason to do this is it expands your design space, so you can print more cards before you have to reboot/rotate or just start blatantly reprinting or powercreeping. it basically isolates the game into little sub-cardpools. so if your design could normally accomodate 300 unique cards before it felt bloated or started breaking under its own weight? well, make it 10 different classes and now you can go to 3000 unique cards instead.>#2 Avatars as modifiersThis is where the character choice doesn't restrict your card picks or archetypes to a significant degree, and instead just gives you an extra ability or bonus card or something. It can look superficially similar to the above, but it's done for the exact opposite reason: to make a small cardpool seem artificially large. so if say you're only going to have 300 cards in 5 years because you're an indy company, slow release schedule, whatever, you release 20 characters that can all run the same general set of decks and you basically just made your deckbuilding options 20x bigger.>so many ACG focus on creature combatthat one's simpler. it's easy to understand and all 3 of the biggest 3 games use creature combat. it's more selection pressure than anything. there's some notable exceptions though. netrunner and its spawn like hubworld focus on running nets. the fighting games like DBZ and FAB use few or no true creatures. political games like L5R, VTES and AGOT have combat, but it's either between armies and leaders or some kind of combat-that's-not-really-combat. few of the newer ones like keyforge, lorcana and altered have combat but it's not the focus or the way to win. all kinds of shit out there anon
>>97233888To learn the game? There is a training app on phone and desktop you can access for free. There is a Learning Deck Set with 3 beginner (shitty) decks to play the game. There are individual starter decks (also for the most part shitty). You can go down to your local game store that runs it (search bandai tcg+ for events near you) and find bulk to build decks before playing.>Get into One Piece as a whole?Read the manga

How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?
>>97213989Same as rats irl, they're pests, they reproduce too fast and live in shitty places or in sewers that make the effort of getting rid of them not worth it for how much of annoyance they areSo you kill them when they're in front of you causing problems but above that you just ignore them if they aren't annoying you
