Ajtes remained locked with the flagellants, but the dragon ran down the fleeing swordsmen and fled off the board, safe from any vengeful cannon fire. The fall of the swordsmen panicked the crossbowmen who fled through the greatswords behind them.

>turn 3
The empire army tried to counter the assault, the greatswords charged against the lone warhound but it simply fled and they were stranded in front of my chosen knights. In the shooting phase some cannon fire brought down one of the chosen, but there wasnt much else that was accomplished.
In combat Ajtres killed a good few flagellants but remained engaged with their remainder.

On my turn marauder horsemen charged the flagellants, hoping to help free up my general so that he doesent get ganked by a war altar. The chaos sorcerer cast his first spells of the game, getting off both daemonology buff spells. The chosen knights knew they had to either face the steam tank or the greatswords, and face a charge by whoever they left, and decided that the greatswords offered a juicier target (the scenario also rewarded killing enemy characters).
The warpfire dragon tried to launch its bile at the steam tank, but missed and got partials on my chosen knights, which then failed to validate.

In combat Ajtes and the marauders finished off the flagellants, while the warhounds finished off the remaining archer and were finally into the cannon.

The chaos sorcerer got off his daemonic familiars, the vengeful demons performed far beyond expectation and dragged down SIX greatswords on their own, before the sorcerers poisoned axe killed a further two. The chosen knights did no worse, soundly wiping the entire unit, leaving only a lone captain to impotently swing against them. The BSB was then cut down as he tried to flee from combat. And the knights reformed to face the lone steam tank, which alongside the war altar was all the empire had really left.

It was at this point that we called the game.

There was definitely a possible mismatch of list power there. I brought my usual list (which I do not consider particularly finely tuned, but which has some very powerful punch in the right circumstances) while my opponent brought a rather unfocused infantry force.

The dice, however, also played a big factor. The empire's shooting accomplished very little, and some lucky charges and combats saw me get where I needed and win when I needed.

Play was also, however, a factor; the war altar did nothing all game (it didn't even get any powers off), and the empire was forced into permanent reactive play, which did not help them any, 300pts of empire soldiery vs 1000pts of chaos warrior steel tends to go only one possible way.

My opponent, however, is also building up some Grand Cathay, and we discussed playing again in the new year. Maybe with me bringing more infantry (I have some forsaken I have meant to finish up, but which will wait for my 30k stuff to be done).

Magic remains unconvincing to me, although the daemonology buff definitely helped. Maybe I should stop taking the puppet and take a lore familiar.

What rules are you guys playing? I played during the 5th and 6th edition eras before coming back around. My small, local group plays Warhammer Renaissance which combines the nostalgia with some more balanced improvements. I haven’t really paid attention to GW for 20 years and I see they are still selling a lot of the same Bretonnian minis from the 90s.

They wanted to simplify everything so they could balance stuff better, which is obviously very easy when every effect is a variant of d3 mws. While it basically cost the game every ounce of soul it had picked up over 2e/3e, it does look like you can roll up to tournaments with random bullshit and do well.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Has anyone ever run or thought about running a one-shot D&D and/or Pathfinder game where you used ALL of the optional and niche D20 mechanics?
I'm talking Sanity, Taint, Flaws, etc. It'd be a complete cluster fuck, but those can be some of the best games.
>>
>>97172773
>they are known for being sluts that secretly love being gangraped by orcs and goblins
You are confusing elves for yourself.
>>
>>97230113
>Sanity
I've never seen a table use the sanity system, which is funny because I had a DM once who run a short "horror" story using a homebrew system of his (he had no idea the sanity system existed).
>Taint
I've used it in a campaign, but I wouldn't combine it with the sanity system (since they both kinda fit the same niche, with a different flavor).
>Flaws
I use them every time and my group considers them a "default" choice when making characters.
>Spell Points
I have two people in the group that never want to use spell slots ever again after they learnt about spell points, and honestly I don't even mind (when I DM).

Anyways, I've used several subsystems (both as a player and a DM), but using ALL of them... yeah no, never thought about it and not really interested to be honest.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,

Most retards put their tactical squads with only one toe in objective range in preparation of running away when something gets close leaving more than enough room to deep strike a unit on top of the objective.

Anything by Jules Verne.
Of course, the issue there is that he lived when Steam tech was the newest thing, so at the time his works were just speculative fiction. It's only after steam faded that his works became the basis for a new psudogenre
>>
>>97198980
>A good method is to replace coal with some other sort of unobtainium mechanism that can more efficiently power steam engines.

Most modern power plants (Nuclear, Coal, Natural Gas, etc.) are in actuality giant steam engines turning electric motors in order to generate electricity. The steam age has not really ended it was just hidden from sight. If you want steam punk to actually work you need to come up with a reason that pumping a high pressure aerosol of liquid vapor through pipes is a better energy transfer method than transmitting electricity through metal wires.
>>
>>97198341
You know what, I don't how steampunk fashion/subculture started either. It seems to me it must have started in the US but that's as far as I can go; there must be a reason beyond some music bands adopting the steam era adventurer aesthetics back in the 2000s, but I just don't know what it was
>>97230255
In Dragonmech it all boils down into "steam powered shit was invented by dwarves and they're so good at it everything just works out", the book just tells you not to overthink it and just enjoy the ride
it also implies that the same dwarves that invented steam powered mechs also know about electricity generation and nuclear powered engines, but won't tell anybody about it because it's just too dangerous to let people like humans or goblins get their hands on that kind of knowledge it's also implied that there was an ancient dwarven empire that nuked themselves into the stone age and that's the main reason they keep that kind of tech under wraps
i'm personally fine with that; i just want to run a high fantasy adventure with mechs and sheit
