>>97222955I would just want to build mono black discard.
>>97222970Sincerely playing against high tide was some of the least fun I’ve ever had playing magic. At least when affinity is raping me I’m feeling some sort of emotion, even if it is indescribable rage. Going against high tide in MTGO meant either a game where nothing happens at all or a game where I pass turn for 25 minutes and wait to see if I lose.
>>97222985you also have counterplay against affinity. against high tide you either snipe a couple of them with duress or you hope the opponent bricks
>>97222236There's a new Lorwyn? The only thing I saw was strixhaven on vacation in all-inclusive fairyland
>>97223223Lorwyn is getting the Aetherdrift treatment like Muraganda did. A backdrop to another set to be quickly ignored so they can push the focus on their DEI checkbox set of Not!HarryPotter and UB kikery. It’s so obvious at this point JOTC doesn’t even want to acknowledge their own IP anymore, except begrudgingly like it’s such a fucking chore for them to go “Oh yeah, we have to make a “MAGIC” set this time…UGH, FINE…but here’s this pig slop now!”
Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely. Is WOTC just stupid?
>>97222257What you're overlooking is that success for Paizo and success for WotC are two different things. Paizo did not have the same overhead as WotC, so what WotC considered failing is not what Paizo would.
>>97204605>business is selling rulebooks and sourcebooks>royally fuck it up and kill your game for a quick buckseems stupid to me anon
>>97223246And what you're overlooking is that by no metric anyone has been able to produce, was 3.5 a failure.
>>97223312Long term sales. Design turns too many people off. 3.5 was not capable of holding itself up without MtG money backing it up. That's why we got 4E. The fact that it repeated itself word for word in Pathfinder, with late release experimental material prior to PF2 resembling that game far more than it did PF1 and then a total break from PF1, is proof enough.
>>97223270Nta but it's not stupidity but misdirection and maliciousness. 5e was making bank in his own merits... if it wasn't a product of a subsidiary company of a bigass corpo. In that context your product doesn't have to make enough money to sustain itself and make also a cut of it as profit, it has to GROW INDEFINITELY. The inane buzzwords vomited by corpodrones (like "supercharging the brand" and similar shit) translated in human readable language roughly mean "we're going to try and jump over the sharks with this bullshit, if we fail we can still make a fuckload of money by selling the sharks leftovers as chum for fishing", so basically the product success is a bonus that allows for more daring bullshits, it's not expected to necessarily work but to allow for extracting as much profit as possible even from failure.

Have you tried Space Gits? It's an unusual skirmish game by Mike Hutchinson (made Gaslands). It seems to be the ultimate casual skirmish that you play while chugging beer.A lot of mechanics are dexterity based, for example instead of losing health or wounds, your fighters add D6's to their dice tower, which has to be moved alongside them (and when it drops over, they drop down). Shooting is also quirky - you roll dice equal to the number of shots and then trace lines between a shooter and each die to see if you hit the target. Landed shots use die's result, so a single roll is made to-hit and to-wound, which I think is neat.I'm going to try it this thursday. My only two complaints so far is that close combat seems bland (its basically rock-paper-scissors) and it's really easy to deny it by spamming shove. My other complaint is that the rulebook's art is atrocious vomit.Everything else checks out though, it even seem to have a basic campaign system.

Any problems you have with Warhammer 40k/Games Workshop over the past few years, anon? Do you see it getting better or worse?
The focus on competitive tournament faggotry has made 40k one of the most bland wargames I have ever played>Do you see it getting betterNo, luckily enough older players felt the same and there's a couple classic 40k rulesets hanging around. Not to mention being able to go back and play whatever edition I want, it's just a shame I miss out on the huge player pool of mainstream 40k.

I got thinking recently, and I feel like a big problem with games where the main appeal is the vibe/feel of the setting rather than unique mechanics/crunch isn't the idea of an artistically driven game in and of itself. The problem, IMO at least, is more that A: a lot these games aren't just narrative-before-mechanics, the mechanics are a complete afterthought, and B: they're all aping the exact same vibe. If we only had 1 or 2 games attempting to capture the "grimdark" vibe it wouldn't be so bad but it feels like everything is going for variations of the exact same aesthetic/narrative flavour. At least Turnip28 had some degree of whimsy in the actual fluff, but with Trench Crusade, Mork Borg and a billion other "the artstyle is Streaking Grime" settings I personally am feeling grimdark fatigue.I dunno- I feel like an art/vibe driven game with an actually unique or at least underutilized vibe (purely as an example, aping the bright and colourful look of 2nd edition 40K and its contemporaries) and decent mechanics would be good.
>>97219773I agree, art direction is everything, no one wants to play with a world that is visualized to look dull and ugly
Everyone's trying to do grimdark because it's popular. The market exists and wants it, so everyone's jostling for first place. You can make a game with any other look but it's untested grounds.
>>97219773>they're all aping the exact same vibeThat's because you're looking at things that are all descended from the same source because it's far and away the most popular game in that niche.
>>97220097>I intend toYou can literally start right now!
>>97219773Grimslop is fine when there's an actual setting behind the art like with Mutant Chronicles but all the nu grimdark settings just reference Warhammer and call it a day. Grimdark isn't even a real genre it's a marketing buzzword.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97222508As a side to the aforementioned disneywood problems, the original Wormskin Zines are well worth looking at and using various parts to add to your campaign. They have a lot of useable material that has a more earnest approach and tone than the newer stuff and more direct use with b/x.

>>97220239>>97220243To be honest, in the DW campaign I'm in, I would have totally thought that was cool. I get people saying "bah! 10 corruption points is so punishing!" but the limit is 100 and even in a long deathwatch campaign, it will take forever for it to matter. I slightly agree with WP success punishing you for having high WP but I think it would give away the hallucination to easily for what it is.
>>97223001>but the limit is 100 and even in a long deathwatch campaign, it will take forever for it to matterThat's a good point actually, Maybe I just don't give them out often enough, but even in the longest 40k campaigns I've ever run or played not a single character ever acculumated enough insanity or corruption points for them to actually become an issue

can I get some tips on making this homebrew item?Passive Shield - WornHP: 40 BT: 5 AC TARGET: +6 Hardness: 6A shield that is fitted directly on clothing/armor, requiring the user to strategically turn their body to take blows with the shield. Instead of requiring a raise shield action and a shield block reaction, this shield will automatically block incoming damage depending on the incoming attack roll. As long as the attack roll of the incoming damage is equal or under the sum of AC + AC TARGET, but above or equal your AC, the shield will block the damage, as if you had performed the shield block reaction. You can not use Raise a Shield with this item, and it does not give AC bonuses. It's for a PF2E total conversion into a mecha action homebrew system where the player has to fill one of their weapon slots with it, so don't worry about how it fits on a medieval setting.
