Every time I search for a cool "barbarian" in some RPG, no matter if it's dark fantasy or not, it's always the half-naked dude or chick that looks like he / she has just wake up after an university party. It gives the same vibes that you get from watching an historical film and for some reason, the filmmakers hate natural colors and must put a filter that ruins your immersion. Is it there a good RPG with proper "barbarians"?
>>96458618Barbarians are = anyone not Main™ nation. Which is almost universally is a version of the medieval Europe, or sometimes not!Roman Empire.Against that, every other primitive civilizations are barbarians, from celts to arabs to finns to gooks. They're all less refined, speak nonsense and act retarded. That's the gist.

I don't play 40k and I don't have any of the books, but I have ONCE AGAIN heard some people talking about how powerful the space marines are, compared to normal people, and I had a sudden thought I need rules knowledge to disambiguate. If a unit with 1 surviving standard guardsman charges a unit with 1 surviving standard marine what are the dice rolls that determine the results of that one charge? Assuming the luckiest rolls possible, is it possible for that guardsman to kill that marine? If it isn't possible to do the 1-turn kill, what are the rolls the marine will make in retaliation, and what are the odds that the guardsman survives those to get another try against the marine?(I'm not sure if "standard marine" and "standard guardsman" make sense - if you're playing a specific codex, will there be rules that make *every* marine non-standard, or is there a type of marine that every chapter gets? And same for the guardsman. If there's no "standard," then I guess I'm thinking of a Cadian charging an Ultramarine, just for being the two poster-boy codexes)
>>96462570Guardsman hits on 5+Space marine rolls armor save 3+ or diesSpace marine hits on 4+Guardsman rolls armor save 5+ or dies
>>96462570Guard rolls 2d6 to charge. Sane people like 7" charges so he makes it in half the timeHe needs a hit of like 4+ so he hits half the time, call it 25%He wounds probably also on a 4 or 5 so call it 12.5%The marine has a 3+ save and two wounds. So 4%, and then the whole thing has to happen again, so we'll call it a 1/1000 chance Actually its less because the marine hits back, but also more because the guard can try again if he survives the second turn, so... close enough

I give out double XP. When they get treasure home and when they spend it on something I love or is reasonable. Now, I have thought about what if they buy a healing service from the village cleric. Couple of wretches and one retainer is badly hurt from the last adventure. They were carried home and took to the cleric. I have yet to figure out what healing services would cost in B/X world. Days food and water costs 1 gold coin, not peasants yearly wage. With that in mind, it should be around 100 gp per spell level, no? 500 gp? Price of the spell scroll or the inconvenience price for the cleric to lose a spell slot? Then I can finally set up a multiplier (0.5-1.0) for the XP for Gold spent.Thanks.

>>96464956More than just perks but:Paragon from SupCom -> Endless goldAlchemy from Master of Magic -> Turn gold into manaMagic Flow from Shield Hero -> Spend mana to improve any action without upper limit
>>96465148If you have a source of endless mana, pick up the Mana Shield spell from Diablo 1, which converts damage into mana drain.
>>96465198Well, with that setup you do run into physical limitations. The alchemical process from MoM spits out mana in crystal form, and while I imagine you can simply absorb the crystals to fill your mana pool that pool's size doesn't change. Moreover it's one mana point per crystal so you'll quickly hit a limit on how much you can carry. You'd be better off just making or buying Diablo mana potions.

How come mtg foils are so dogshit? How come when I look up the issue online no one can seem to pinpoint a cause? Every post is just a brush off of “foils degrade faster than normal cards” but none of my old foils curl like the current ones, if at all. >>96464593I think the main problem with the whole Hecate thing is that I can't see Giovanni, a clan of merchants and necromancers that clawed it's way to the top among vampires, actually showing how weak they are these days by allying with their own enemies.Like, a few years ago they had 20+ million wraiths imprisoned and they were getting ready to cause a nuclear apocalypse. The only thing even worse in V5 is Lasombra and how nonsensical the whole "joining" Camarilla is. Nevermind the Camarilla's demans.>>96464665Most Merit and Flaws aren't worth it but are there to give flavor to your character.

They usurped a much larger and more important clan than the Tremere did, did so without any aggressive propaganda to muddy the waters, and have been getting away with neither sect seriously fucking with them for 500 years? Married with how mind-bogglingly stupid Augustus's final plan is, I don't believe he could've pulled something like that off. The other 3 independent clans get a lot of (deserved) flak, but I'd argue that the Giovanni are just as bad as the Assamites in terms of questionable writing and wildly fluctuating importance/power. They, like the others, work a lot better as a smaller faction on the sidelines. It even makes Augie's ghostpocalypse plan make more sense.

>>96441989Beast Boy gets mythical creatures and alien wildlife to hit harder, though that's a little too "random bullshit go" for me, the restriction of real animals breeds innovation
>>96441989Why wouldn't it be relevant?
>>96441989Animal Forms is quite strong for its cost, it's nearly as versatile as a narrow Omni Power while only costing two thirds as much, and doesn't have the unique drawbacks of Omni Power. What would prevent it from being relevant at any power level?
>>96465012In M&M2e, a Variable Power is 8 points per rank, with each rank giving you 5 points to spend more or less however you want. Beast Boy limits that by, 1, being only able to transform into animals, and 2, only ever being green. This turns an 8p/r power into a 6p/r, which is enormously more affordable and only barely less powerful.

I feel like making something, ideally something OSR-adjacent. This is kind of an open-ended question: what RPG supplement or other cool thing does /tg/ want to see? Think something you'd pay between $3 and $5 for.I've got some game design and writing experience. I can handle graphic design and illustration (and sound too, if relevant). I just want some input on what you think might be cool. Trying to decide what to put a little time into.
>>96463772You don't seem malicious, but honestly, you don't seem too bright either.>I want to make a thing>some kinda thing that's cool and sorta like another thing>and then I'll charge money for it1) Why don't you already have any ideas of your own?2) why didn't you to go the OSRG and, instead of posting, simply read the thread. See what people are talking about. Look at what already exists and find what doesn't3) What possessed you to believe that openly asking this board what is thinks is cool would get you serious answers?
>>96464475Recommending the /osrg/ is like telling someone with an open wound that they should seek medical attention in an open sewer.
>>96463772>guys, I have an idea how to make money>well...I don't really have an idea but you will help me get an idea
>>96464572I'm aware. He said he wants to make OSR material though. He chose the sewer already.
>>96464475I have lots of ideas. Mostly I wanted to see what /tg/ might think was cool. It's less about having ideas at all and more about trying to see what other people might be interested in. I figured about 3/4 of it would be insults and jokes, which seems about right, but sometimes people give interesting feedback.>>96464598Coming up with "an idea" is the easiest part of the process. I literally have hundreds of ideas, I'm not trying to source "ideas" as much as figure out what other people think might work. That other anon who recommended somehting from Sumerian or Aztec culture, for example.>>96464610Why is OSR the sewer? I guess I'm not tied to that idea specifically, my thought was that it would be good to make supplementary material because OSR stuff tends to be more system-agnostic, and I thought that might get a better response.
