>get +5 dice that work against everyone in all cases

>put 5 dots into appearance
>get an unusable dogshit stat because nonverbal communication gets severe penalties
>when you're not using it, MAYBE get a few extra dice against people you would have easily beaten regardless with a 5 in the other stats
>get no dice at all against people that matter
>get the privilege of maybe slightly boosting it with extra charm investment
>>
I am curious how an appearance build would work. From what I can tell if you had the Black Claw martial arts you could get it up to 8, at least for a single action. You'd probably want to go Dreaming Pearl instead though...

Totally useless but...

Outrage-Kindling Cry - 1 appearance for the rest of the fight, 10m 1wp
Awakened Carnal Demiurge - 1 appearance, -1 enemy resolve committed, 5m 1wp.
Thousand Courtesan Ways, 1 appearance, 5m scene long.

How sexy can we get I wonder.
>>
Picking Resistance as Supernal is tasty because it's advantageous in a combat situation, but it strikes me as pretty boring and niche otherwise. Am I wrong in this? Can Supernal Resistance be cool and flavorful?

The other two here are ill informed. What actually happened was that one of the updates a couple months ago caused a bug that made Tomb King and Lizardmen AI completely passive on the campaign map, which meant both lizards and TK’s were getting wiped out in every run every time. The community review bombed the game to hold CA hostage until they fix the issue, which they did a few days ago.

It's like HeroQuest in terms of genre and having a weird parallel history, but it plays very differently and is more like a game than an RPG. It's like the difference between Left for Dead and CoD Zombies.

Thanks, this is helpful. Follow up question: is there an obvious perceivable difference between arcane and divine magic, or is that more of a hyper-specific backend information kind of thing? Basically, what I'm asking is if the average uneducated peasant, or the average middle-class show-owning merchant or skilled craftsman would see someone cast a spell, would their response be...

>That person is dressed like a mage, so they must be doing mage stuff.
>That person is dressed like a priest, so they must be doing priest stuff.
>That person is wearing normal clothes, so I have no idea what they're doing but its some kind of magic.

Or would they be able to kind of instinctively distinguish between a person in plain clothes casting arcane or divine spells, kind of instinctively based on how the spells look or feel? Even if they are not necessarily able to identify the spell itself.
>>
Do we have any updates on when the Swashbuckler Subclass for the Rogue will be reprinted? It was in the Playtest UA before 5e.24 came out and I thought it was pretty neat, but I don't recall us getting any information on how it scored before they decided to put the Psionic Subclasses in.
>>
>>96768221
That's up to the DM, but it's standard fantasy fare that the distinction be apparent. But ultimately even beyond arcane/divine, each individual spellcaster could look and feel different, or at least subclasses. The illusionist whose spells all look like purple translucent cards vs the sorcerer doing draconic stuff full of runes and sigils or his skin tatoos glowing etc
>>
>>96767322
>the Eldrtich Blast spell could only be obtained from a Pact.
And that isn't even true, because lore bards, Magic Initiate and Spell Sniper exists, and the later doesn't necessarily involve a pact of any kind.

>>96768221
It's very individual. The same spell may look different even with the casters of same class, but I would assume divine magic would involve actual prayers instead of nonsense words, and most likely holy symbols (because who even uses actual material components anymore?). Similarly, bard spellcasting may involve music, and sorcerers may use less elaborate components than wizards.
Warlocks and clerics may be amusingly similar in their casting, though.
>>
>>96768354
>And that isn't even true, because lore bards, Magic Initiate and Spell Sniper exists, and the later doesn't necessarily involve a pact of any kind.
Right! I forgot that those were options in 2014 D&D, so yeah that muddies the water even more in that game. 2024 ***so far*** its not possible to get Eldrtich Blast without being a Warlock.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: Is Reach important or is it all about how you use it?

A maul blow to the skull will almost certainly cause stun anyway. At minimum ST to wield it effectively, you're doing 2d+4 damage, minimum 6. Subtracting 2 for skull DR, you still do (4*4) = 16 HP injury, which is more than enough for a major wound. That means a roll against HT-10 to avoid being stunned and knocked down, which is only possible on a critical success for a normal person with HT 14 or less. Even if they are wearing a helmet, an average damage roll will still be a major wound unless it's a greathelm over a normal helm with extra padding or something.

>any advice on "eating clean"
NTA, but /fit/bro checking in. The single most important thing is to avoid drinking your calories. Eliminate soda, Starbucks, Mango Sabrina Refreshers from Dunkin Donuts and all of that shit. Even if it claims to have fruit in it, it's fucking poison and making you fat. After that, find out your calorie max for the day with an online TDEE calculator. It's not letting me post a link to one because spam (lol ironic) but go to your search engine of choice and type "TDEE calculator" and go to literally any of them. Count your calories and don't eat more than this. Next, eat your bodyweight in grams of protein per day. So if you're 180lb, eat 180g of protein per day. You'll notice that by trying to do this, you won't have much room for many other calories, and all of a sudden you'll start feeling fucking great. Finally, when you start working out, just remember that you're wearing your body from two weeks ago in the gym (i.e. it won't look any different for about 2 weeks). If you've never worked out before, it will unironically take 2 months to appear on your body, but you'll have a "holy shit" epiphany that will feel like Link pulling the Hookshot out of a treasure chest, music and all. Good luck bro and godspeed

Trench Crusade General - /trench/
Let's Make A Warband Generator Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

Male human fighters can have a ton of backstory and flavor. I've made a human fighter that is the son of ancient royalty for instance, and has a hint of a romantic pairing with a mysterious girl he's had a crush on ever since he met her when he was six. But even the classic "farmerboy turned soldier" male human fighter can have excellent backstories. I mean hell, look at Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

>>96767018
Naw, I can confirm from playing said male human fighter, who I've given around a millennia of backstory surrounding the circumstance of his family - I've only had the story been engaged with once. I found them pretty fun to play out of battle regardless, since that's just personality and character, but once you get into a fight it's mostly just spamming the attack button.
>>
>>96768295
>Male human fighters can have a ton of backstory and flavor
Key word "can"
Guess what doesn't happen in 9 out of 10 cases.
>>
>>96768295
Besides, I don't give a flying fuck about backstories, I want a player who isn't sitting by the table, doing fuck all and having to be almost forced to speak up or participate. Why even occupying the spot, if you don't plan to play?
>>
>>96768310
This, what most male human fighter fags don't realize is that the stereotype "fighters are boring" doesn't come from the class. It comes from years of the most boring people you know playing fighters.

I'm not even talking about a lack of backstory, because that really doesn't matter. But a total lack of attention, initiative or involvement. Mostfighterfags just exist at a table to bloat the enemy CR limit and nothing else

You ever wonder why there's so much 'church bad' stuff? Like you'd think that given how fantasy deities demonstrably exist and do indeed grant supernatural powers, there would be less basic-ass iconoclasm.

Iconoclasm isn't against church or faith, it is against idols, condemning them all to be false. Its morality is that people who think a picture of Christ is capable of miracles is attributing the miracle to the object at least in part and not fully to Christ, etc.

One suspected origin of the doctrine was from Greek Orthodox Christians who lived near the Saracens and observed the piety behind calls to not depict god or the prophet and then thought "damn my neighbors do go hard over that heirloom crucifix of theirs, they treat it as magical. Maybe that's a sin."

I feel like "what does your character do when they have nothing to do?" is an interesting question that more players should explore, but it's not something to fill an entire session with.

Having a look at it now and considering options:
Rogue Trader's ability to pull wargear cards (minus character specific) from anywhere could definitely make things interesting if you want to really tool them up in a weird way. Or just an unexpected combo. But it's also just very handy for characterful bits.
The Preacher character could be quite interesting, cheap and comes with a conversion field (handy blinding effect in some cases) and a wargear card so you can probably do something cheeky with that but also just have them for utility.
They get some cheap scouts which is good for just a variety of things even if they're not particularly killy being only humans.
And for the general wargear list; no power fists and no power armour in general wargear is interesting but you do get shuriken pistols and catapults which are always nasty, could be given to a character.

You don't get many Rogue Trader specific units, and I would want to take them and tool them up a bit for flavour, and definitely make use of the support weapons, but I think the bulk of a force would be cherry picking some bits from the Imperial Guard, Space Marine armies and agents, like grab a tooled up assault squad or some veterans with an autocannon for a really solid adaptable core unit, or maybe some stormtroopers, an assassin, that kind of thing, use a bunch of tarantulas for the heavy weapons...

It's kind of difficult to think what'd work really well together with so many options on hand but there's bound to be some good ones. But also potentially a little too specialised, a lot of the army is still (unless you really lean into the Marines part) basic humans and will need some fodder to screen the specialist units. Maybe thinking of it like a guard army with a bit of extra edge/space marine allies is the key? Assuming you focus on taking all the optional Rogue Trader specific units that is. Lot of options.
