I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?

I just watched Dark City for the first time. The CYOA was better - although I'm not sure whether it was better to remove the overt science fiction elements. >>97810560True but they always seem to focus on the sexual mechanics, I'm more talking about mechanical buffs that persist into conventional gameplay. The post-nut buffs if you will/>>97811241>>97811433>>97811811Depends entirely on the mechanism. If a spell specifies the size increase/decrease effects like Enlarge/Reduce does, use those because specific trumps general. For the things that change your size but don't specify the stat changes it's an open question if you use the rules as if you'd take the size increase rules from a monster gaining Hitdice, or you'd gain nothing at all. (I'd probably give the natural armor increases at least to partly offset the size penalty to general and touch AC
>>97813872I try not to get involved in homebrew anymore. Sorry.Maybe let a dragon's princess concubines gain some SLAs of the dragon plus some elemental resistance based on HD.
>>97813872>offset the size penalty to general and touch ACWhy do they need to be offset? Shit's bigger now, it's going to be easier to hit. Monster advancement isn't really analogous to having its size magically altered.
>>97820179Because you're gonna have a tougher hide from the scaleup.

>>97820459Path of the Doomed is the one with the suicide bombers and yeah that's the one. The biggest reason I'm losing a lot of guys is that I fucked up at gang creation and only bought one champion. On the second week or so both of them got critically injured and neither of them could take eachother to the doctor, so I lost my entire leadership in one game. Honestly I just feel like I've been getting super unlucky with the lasting injury table results.
>>97820474And on downtime I bought two champions. The very next game, one got memdeath'd and the other got captured and I didn't want to fight the same guy again; let's just say I had 23 tactics cards for that game. Just recently I got an 11 for picking the missions and got to choose, so I just decided to run fucking Ghast Harvest with my opponent and voluntarily bottle when he got close. Spent the 260 creds on another champion who got memdeath'd this last game.

>>97819267It's necromunda but with vehicle rule (forced too, game had to start with orks on vehicles), and modeling for advantage: Orks are on thin, oval bases like the one on green army men. >>97820399If you guys are playing relatively RAW, it is pointless. The transitions in the succession campaign are very poorly balanced (what a shock!) and moving from Cinderak to Temenos you guys should all just reset gangs, or at the very least do something like rehiring gang members ar 1250+400c. Despite your outlier scenario Cinderak isn't deadly enough to warrant the 2000c starting lists, and any new gangs joining in Temenos start with 1000+400. The gang rating and even crew differences will be in the 1000s for just standard gangs, not even considering new joinees or your situation, or the characters randomly joining up. The move from Temenos to Jardlan is much smoother as those are both 1000+400, but even then if you play RAW any continuing gang will just be radically higher rating compared to a starting gang. Why a continuing gang also gets 250c on top of everything else when joining into the next campaign is beyond comprehension.
>Join open table night for 5E>Playing a monster expert ranger>combat starts >pull out monster manual and read the stats >DM accuses me of meta gaming This is a DM skill issue right? It’s a roleplaying GAME. Why is he upset that I’m just using all the tools of the game to be a better player

>>97818555>Join open table night for 5E>Playing a scout and talker>Enter dungeon>pull out adventure to find secret doors and npc talking points>DM accuses me of meta gaming
>>97820270Hes not, because metagaming means the higher level of a game where you strategize against the other players, not the system. Knowing all the stats is just gaming with a wiki. Its only metagaming when you load up on radiant damage because you know you're playing COS and expect a tonne of undead that wouldnt otherwise be common enemies - your strategy is strong because of the other strategies in play, not the inherent balance of the gameThats why its called the metagame
>>97818555Its fine to do as long as you're okay with the gm doing everything they can to win.

Serious question: What value do slaves actually have to your average PC? Like, I've never seen any PC / group actively engage in slavery because there never seems to be any substantial reward worth the effort. It's like crafting or running a business, there's just no *point* in engaging with the mechanics because the rewards are puny. How could you make it actually appealing to players? It's not like they can load up a ship and sail off to the ivory coast.
>>97814288>What would a giant want great quantities of slaves for?Same thing humans would want halfling slaves for. They're good for both farming, domestic servitude, and industry. Sure, each human is individually weaker than the giant they serve, but that's always been the case for slavery, a Spartan hoplite was stronger than his helot slaves but he wasn't going to till the fields. Ultimately, slavery isn't about putting everyone in the role their physique is most suited for. It's about the strongest people realizing they can get weaker people to do the work they don't want to do themselves.
>>97798302There is no such thing as in the abstract. Either you're discussinga specific game, or you're not discussing games. Argue and I'll ban you.

>>97820234Honestly? There are more than 100 different powers in Blood Sorcery and as a result it wasn't made all at once. One day I was probably thinking Dominate for the dice pool, the other I was probably thinking Majesty, since Animalism, what it's actually based on, just uses Animal Ken. I can see the argument for either. Now that I think about it, I'm wondering why I didn't make the objects one Crafts. In any case, if you see a dice pool you find questionable, feel free to change it, you don't need my permission. It's stated advice in both the Foreword and the Final Words, and probably several places in-between. I'm happy to hear total strangers are taking an interest, and I really do appreciate the feedback, especially when something is genuinely unclear. But for matters of balance, unless completely broken, my advice is just to tweak things to your table's liking.

>>97820618>Pentex doesn't have shit on this guy's cost-saving measures.Pentex only favor cost-saving when it's harmful to someone or something. They don't actually care about money. I feel like even though there is a bit of a surge in popularity for the medium, the actual art of rules writing might be slipping away. We haven't lost it yet, but there may have been some stagnation. What exactly makes a wargame/TTRPG's rules good? And what is the most "retard proof" method of slowly or even hastily (if possible) to learn to be a good writer of wargame/ttrpg rules?

While not the most critical aspect of game design, I think it is important to create something which appeals to yourself rather than emulating the current style. For example, Skirmish games with relatively few units have taken massive precedence over large-scale wargames as of late, but this does not mean that you are required to create a skirmish game yourself.
