>>97386311>>97387756never really learned how to draftis everyone just playing limited and commander at lgs's? is there any standard/modern scene at your typical shop? are standard players all just playing on arena now?
>>97393699You the anon from the other thread? If so I answered most of that. But limited has a decent scene yes. A draft is like 10 bucks. The prerelease's are always packed, one I won those from had 70 entrants. Yours might have one today if so I HIGHLY reccomend you go. Its very fun, like 35 bucks and is kinda the lowest barrier to entry for any player.
>>97393721lol yeah, I am, thanksI might go check it out, but I'm still not really sure if I even want to bother with paper at all
>>97393741Prerelease is probably your best test then. Its very low skill and fun. Other main idea is to simply play with a friend. Theres a few 60 card premade boxes on store shelves that are cheap. The FF one was like 20 bucks. Grab it with a friend and play. The main thing you get from paper is talking to and interacting with other humans. Either as friends and just chatting, but also talking about WHAT you want to play. You dont always have to be armed to the teeth for the standard meta with some hyper efficent deck. You can agree on things.

>>97391741not all of these are spells, a couple are homebrew, but here you go
>>97391463Command is pretty rigid in its options. Approach, Drop, Fall, Flee, and Halt is all you're gonna get. Obviously context can make those have more implications, such as "Fall" on a flying creature or "Drop" when the target is dangling from a rope. But this isn't Suggestion or Geas.

Is it even worth trying something like Roll20 online (with mic), or is online play kind of cumbersome? I'm a recluse and struggle socially, so I can only fathom comfortably roleplaying online. I've never played in-person, but it's just not in my comfort zone.

>>97392355AGP was an incredibly long-running greentext saga about a party of Dark Heresy players who were all former Imperial Guard, the Hammer of the Emperor, and thus treated every inquisitorial problem like a nail. In fairness, this usually got them out of as much trouble as it got them into.
>>97366886What's up gangHow difficult would you say Dark Heresy 2e is to learn for a GM and to teach new players? I have experience running DND 5e, some 3.5e, Blades in The Dark and a bunch of small OSR games.
>>97391846I don't care much about Gathering Storm either way - I generally prefer the setting to be static, but if the Rift fits my campaign I do include in, and if it doesn't I don't.I do hate the idea of Primarchs returning though>>97393520You should be fine, just read the book a few times and make notes of most important things. WH systems have fairly simple, instinctive and consistent core mechanics and lots of tiny rules and systems that build up on top of them - so there's plenty to remember, but it's all fairly easy to understand and it shouldn't fall apart if you just forget or omit a rule or two. Explaining the bare minimum they need to start playing to newbies shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes and then you can introduce new rules and concepts on a need to know basis.
>>97390956>the entrenchment of what counts as "real" 40k has gotten REALLY badI try not to be too much of a stick-in-the-mud about it, but all too often if feels like someone's telling me about their hilariously epic LotR game where they met Tom Bombadil singing karaoke in a goblin brothel.
>>97374547I would say Sisters if only for the fact that they would not lose aspirants to gene seed surgeries failure and beforementioned lack of codex limit. Then we got six big orders and shitload of minor ones. And thats not counting non-combat sisters of orders hospitaller and famulous.Tried hitting the wiki, but they seem vague on specific numbers. So I would guess that major order is tens of thousands and minor are up to few thousands.

It's pic related. Peter Jackson tried to copy Blix's swag for a good reason
>>97389217Amy Winehouse?
>>97391917This is the original
>>97290361Love Peter Jackson portrayal, although I think he goes a little to heavy on the armor at times. Dragon's Dogma had a nice interpretation of them, clearly visually inspired by LotR films.>>97328676>>97372937WoD's portrayal of the old Orcs was fun, but also demonstrates one of the problems with changing Orcs from a classic monster race to one that's capable of making moral choices. Cause if you do that an then try to keep all the fun barbarian raider orc tropes, you end up with something far far more problematic than just sticking to the classic always evil monsters. So yeah, kind of fun, but Orcs have been a mess since, I dunno, TBC.

Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.
>>97386643>>97386798>>97386945Rules for PC creation haven't applied to NPCs since 3rd edition, and even then a lot of the writers at the time treated elves and drow and dwarfs and such as generally superior to humans even if the rules didn't always reflect this I think the best way to look at it is that a mid-level player character could represent an above average elf, tiefling, or genasi, or a well above average dwarf, or truly exceptional human or halfling Obviously there would be some nuance, like a mid-level gnome wizard would be considered uncommon, but a mid-level gnome fighter would very rare
>>97391066Agreed. Simply wretched slop.
>>97391066>>97391461samefag
>>97360722There have been a few systems where Elves grow slow physically. Hell in my setting that done to a few races. Orcs and Goblins grow up quickly where Elves and Dwarves grow up slowly.

Paying double digit dollarydoos or more PER CARD is the swcond stupidest thing, right behind the car-centric zoning laws.>>97387686People with "let's not have gambling in our games" mindset are the opposite of "investors" though. god I miss FFGs Netrunner, LCGs are the only viable solution to card games.

When did Magic players get so delusional? The performative outrage about UB has got to be some of the most faggy outrage ive seen in this game. If you bought/played with any secret lair cards or LotR cards then you have no room to complain about the current trajectory, this is your fault. If you are anti UB because they dont "fit" Mtgs setting, but purchased/played Neon Dynasty, Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, or Edge then you have no media literacy because they are all basicly UB sets without an IP attached. Stop posting like UB is the death of magic, I remember when we thought Mythic rarity was going to be the end and now look at this bullshit. Its going to keep going on until people are done playing the game and move to something else, and theres not a single TCG right now that could take its place. >inbf I proxy so I winYou are a faggot in denial, if you play the game in anyway, you are coupable in this. >I brought up Epicureanism before because I think its key concepts are strangely poignant in today's society where life is really a stress test of everything and people basically live life on high anxiety. Lucretius' On the Nature of Things and the Epicurus compilation called the Art of Happiness are typical starting points.Epicureanism is FLAWED because it promotes STAGNATION. What if I find peace THROUGH pain and fear? What if I CONSTRUE moderation and tranquility as FAILURES of self-EXPRESSION? Because it sure FUCKING seems to be that EPICUREANISM sounds a whole LOT like it's a PRO-GOHAN stance.

Why is there so much whinging about 'No Games' on this board? I understand that those who come here solely with the intention of discussing tropes and the like can be frustrating to deal with, but there seem to be some folks here who make it their mission to drop bursts of negativity in threads they should've known would enrage them. And even in these threads that hold more general discussion, I don't see how nearly all of them are not at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.

I know GW shills are gonna be mad after reading this, but... when did you realize that busy, overdesigned models are NOT fun to paint and that miniature design peaked 20 years ago?
>>97393423>people are gonna be mad at me because i'm old, i'm lazy, i'm unskilled, and my eyesight is fadingHarsh shit man, wishing you the best of luck with all that.
It's hard to say it's an exclusively GW thing when most 3d modellers put even more detail than GW on their models. There's definitely demand for it.
>>97393423some models are bit much these days.but a lot of them are just really good and much better than anything they could do before. the new CSM legionaries are much better than the old ones. GSC Neophytes look better than any plastic kit they had back in the day.
it only bothers me when it's the basic footsloggersalso designs 20 years ago were busy as fuck too as much as fakegrogs like to pretend otherwise
Painting the rogal dorn tank was no fun for me because of all the details, also meant there was no room for decals. Felt very restrictive.
