What's the appeal of evil women?
77 replies and 18 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97827879
It's a flawed attempt to harness those men's potency in their own favor. A delusion that if there's a monster in the room, the best place to be is clinging to his side.
It ties in to women's taming fantasies, and the thought that if she can win over a monstrous man as her protector she must be uniquely valuable.
Obviously in practice it doesn't always work out.
>>97827955
Both genders are invested in the aesthetic trappings of the other. Men appreciate violence in ritualized and symbolic forms (sport, vidya, tabletop gaming :^) , but often have a practical awareness of the costs of a genuinely violent life. Women, more insulated from violence, are simultaneously titillated, tantalized and threatened by it, in an odd way admiring men's capability for it. They fear it and treasure it and measure our manhood by it. It perhaps doesn't help that a lot of the violence women actually face is sexual, and it's a short leap from there to sexualizing violence itself.
You see the situation somewhat inverted with beauty. Men treasure beauty and wax poetic about it, while women often seem to hold an odd contempt for the entire concept. From their perspective, beauty is not a natural thing, but effort and jealousy and long hours spent in front of the mirror.

Well you can't have a game without a antagonist having a right hand beautiful woman, bonus points if she a evil sorceress who betrays her master at the last moment of whatever grand scheme of his to take power and flirts with the party into luring them into a trap or help her with her own schemes without them knowing it
>>
>>97827871
Because it's all they really got socially. The internet put bullet holes in the mystery of either sex and from what I can see, the men are definitely coping better. The women's lonliness crisis will be sung from the rafters and rooftops while the men's lonliness "crisis" is really only being parroted by women and influencers.

Prostitution is the oldest profession. It has always existed and it will always exist. The presence of prostitutes and brothels is crucial for making a game setting and world feel realistic and lived in. Otherwise, it will lack all verisimilitude. So, tell us, how have you incorporated prostitution into your game?

I would never tell my players they can't solicit a prostitute in a decent sized settlement, but i'd forbid them from going into any detail about it, make them deduct money to pay them, then make them roll a d8 to see if they catch VD

It's not like that sort of thing can't be done with feminine features--you just actually have to pay attention to what you're doing.
I justify the ubiquity of beards on dwarves in my setting by giving them Eimer's organs around their mouths, making shaving a delicate operation that isn't worth the hassle in the vast majority of cases, but that seems to be a bit weirder than what you like doing.

I just don't think giving them beards works, its visually offputting as well as exceptionally lazy, if that makes sense, I want to find a better solution.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

What kind of stories are you looking to tell or games you want to play?
Let your narrative or design goals inform and influence your worldbuilding.

For example the whole ecology of magic in my setting is designed from the ground up to be a ongoing conflict motivator that ties directly into why monster filled dungeons exist and are actually a good thing, as well as always giving a reason to go out into the dangerous wilds since it's highly lucrative to those who can consistently survive.
>>
>>97784855
>Do you use any lesser-known mythologies, histories, or regions as inspiration? If so, which ones, and what appeals to you about them?
Hinduism. I love its pagan immorality because it's great fodder for dark fantasy.
>>
The more I research, sociology, the more it seems like all puritan beliefs, sexism, radical ideas, racism, and wealth insecurity, and gilded attitudes, come from the upper middle classes. The "middle" is where the most intense social friction happens because that’s where people have the most to lose and the most to prove. Therefore, they must perform the most to pretend that they are rich, more moral, more upright, etc than the actual upper classes and lower classes. Everything from the cult of domesticity, to sexism, to everything seems to come from them or is more zealous about them than anyone else.

Because the middle and upper-middle classes lack the inherited "old money" security of the elite and the "nothing to lose" grit of the working class, they are trapped in a constant, high-stakes performance of respectability. The lower and upper classes don’t have to "perform" because their status is assumed. They can be eccentric or messy because their bank account provides the safety net or their behaviours can justified as "base" and rough due destitution.

To maintain their position, the middle-class must constantly signal that they are "better" than the class below them. This leads to Hyper-Conformity: following rules (like the Cult of Domesticity or rigid gender roles) even more strictly than the elites do, just to prove they belong.

To keep this status, the middle class became the primary "moral police" of society. They created the "right" way to raise children, the "right" way to eat, and the "right" way to behave, often looking down on the lower classes for being "unrefined" and the upper classes for being "decadent."

Because the upper-middle class often manages the institutions of society (education, HR, media), they are the ones who codify what "good" looks like. If they can define morality in a way that requires expensive education or specific "refined" tastes, they effectively gatekeep the upper echelons of society from everyone else.

Enuncia isn't psychic powers just like webway travel or Necron teleportation isn't warp travel. Or like how psychic powers and sorcery overlap a lot but aren't the same thing.

Non psykers like Zygmunt Molotch can use it. They're primordial instruments of power, probably either used or created by the Old Ones. As a concept, it widens the scope of where "power" can come from in the 40k universe, which ends up adding layers and mystery to the setting.

> I don't think 'alakazam' and 'open sesame' and 'expecto patronum' fit the idea that psykers are all one mental slip away from becoming demonic onaholes or enslaver gates.
You really strike me as someone who only reads the wikis and watches youtube videos instead of reading Dan Abnett's sublime wordsmithing. In "The Magos", chaos followers put people through absolute hell via Enuncia for some cryptic greater purpose, eventually ending up with one of their own volunteers getting possessed by a greater daemon of Nurgle. The Ravenor series also subjects a lot of innocent civilian bureaucrats to grisly ends involving Enuncia exposure.

"Enuncia isn't grimdark enough" is a completely inaccurate take.

Go over what we know about them. They're known as witch-hunters, they make heavy use of Sororitas forces, they're EXTREMELY into the whole 'cleanse and purify' thing, and they were formed as a direct response to Goge Vandire as a check on the power of the Ecclesiarchy. They are primarily focused on internal threats, and the primary such threats are listed as treason, mutation, heresy, and witches, in that order.
A Planetary Governor is gearing up to secede? Treason, go through his cronies with a fine-toothed comb and figure out why, then kill the bastard. The population of a planet are showing some concerning genetic drift centered around a specific location? Mutation, figure out what's causing it and put an end to the probable xenotech or chaotic aritfact at its root. A Cardinal's preaching is growing concerningly deviant from orthodoxy? Heresy, probably. Find out what he intends to cause with his sermons, look into what triggered this deviation, prevent another Vraks. Rogue psyker? Witch, find out how they got loose and what they've been up to.
