Your top three sets of the post-MAT era?
>>97834724So this is gay and furry right? I don't see any tits on that fox thing. Well done wotc.
>>97837354Let me guess; there was a Beyblade tournament going on as well?
>>97834269I always thought it was kind of fucked up that the Spirits of dead people were treated as "mascots" by Lorehold students, even using them in sports.
I'll start>D&D 5E is a heroic fantasy game (I didn't say good), trying to do anything else should have you using a different system.
>>97835868Prep is simple. I populate a region with few sentences. For example:>Revax-19: mining town, refines Rhydoium ship fuel. Incredibly toxic. Miners are slowly dying of exposure. Corpo but closely associated with the Empire.>Mining office: Ketra Moree (Zabrak, sharp features, sharp wit, laura linney from Ozark) wants to leave her post by any means necessary>Swoop bikers- Brandish blasters even though it's outlawed. Tolerated by the Empire because they keep mining revolts down (see it as a threat to their power/ability to sling spice). Run by a Trandoshan named Vim [missing eye, disruptor pistol, loud [Tommy, Goodfellas]>Refinery: Twisting pipes. Ughnaught workers. One is spying for the nearby imp garrison for promise of early retirement. Rodian named Jint Voss running a smuggling operation on the side [sly but unsubtle. The imps are aware but tolerate him because of his efficiency]>Doctor Bel Van [Bith, stuttering, works for the same company as PC #1's family]- gathering blood samples for nearby imperial base. Easy to detect his effort to obtain bloodwork. Unaware of why the Imps are collecting blood work (They are studying Rhydonium effect on system as possible stimulant).>The miners are about to riot.. Recently "retired" miner is finding his company scrip doesn't convert cleanly into credits off world. It doesn't take long. Just a thing that happens, a person attached (with their own hopes, dreams, etc), and some attachment to the are a they are in. I improve the rest. Descriptions, dialogue, etc.
>>97836232Sure, but I'm replying to the context generated from this comment: >>97833615. I think you might interpret "thinking on your feet and reacting to player's choices" as "improvising everything".So, if I didn't interpret you correctly, I apologize. It sounds like there are others here, though, that are arguing for a "pure improv" GM style which I do think inevitably results in sub-par experiences.>>97836586When it comes to populating the world, I agree with you and share the "living world" approach to worldbuilding. The world build in such a way that it goes on whether or not games play in it are- by far- the most robust and satisfying. That being said, I don't sit at the table 4 hours a week to worldbuild. I do so to experience, adjudicate, and respond as the world in question to the antics of my friend's characters. And the world absolutely changes based upon what they do. I don't know that completely agree that "the world doesn't exist for the characters" because, in a sense, some of my worldbuilding explicitly *does*. I am trying to play roleplaying games after all and the way in which my character's history and story affects what happens from sessions to sessions creates some pretty neat stories and memories.
>>97836786Because there is no point, you fucking moron. He's just saying nonsense trying to be 3deep5u. The only way to confront such an idiot is to point and laugh.
>>97837219>respond as the world in question to the antics of my friend's characters. And the world absolutely changes based upon what they do.Not necessarily. It's entirely up to them if the world is responding or not. If they aren't choosing themselves to make big moves, then the world likely would care less. The world isn't responding to every peasant doing whatever it is they're doing. If it were; they're not a peasant are they.
>>97835868>Also: any extra prep is pointless work and wasted time & energy on GM side.Spoken like a railroad (shitty) DM

>>97836486There are a couple ways to do it. bt16 Pail 2 checks -> bt12 dragonmode 1 check -> ad fightermode 2 checks, so you've stripped all 5 security for 3 memory or less depending on your level 4s and tamers. So bt5 omni or bt20 omni X for the final check. You can also do 4-5 checks by using the starter dragon mode to play out your 4s, DNA into pail to swing 1-2 times more and go into another imperial.

>>97837547ThisCasters should have a theme and if being able to defend themselves fits the theme they should be able to do that, and if it doesn't they shouldn'tIf your caster is a magical scholar of some sort like a wizard, then no they shouldn't be able to throw a punch better than any other nerd. That's not part of the theme of being a wizard. Other themes like a sci-fi technomancer, or an alchemist, or a magical deal-maker or summoner, or a seer or oracle, or a magical performer or bard, or a religious scholar or cleric, or a necromancer, also should not being able to defend themselves. That's not part of what their theme is, even if some of these thematic casters get to defend themselves in DnD logically speaking they shouldn't. They might have spells to defend themselves but frankly some of these like the cleric, bard, oracle, or alchemist should not be combat classes with any offensive magic at all.If your caster is some sort of cultivator or magic martial artist or element-bender, if they're some sort of crusading zealot with a god's blessing, if they're some sort of animist or shapeshifter or shaman with a martial bent then yes they should be able to defend themselves. But frankly, TTRPGs need less of a combat focus and more classes which are entirely non-combat.

Would the Beastmen race from Warhammer Fantasy, The Old World and Age of Sigmar been more popular if they were instead a Beastwomen race where the purpose of their raids is forcing human and elven males to breed with them?
It would attract a different audience but I highly doubt they would end up being more popular, people who like monstergirls might now care for a game where the whole point is that they die in large numbers.

>>97784855Anyone focus on glass as an important industry in their setting?Pretty sure for a lot of the west and Italy and Venice in particular, Glassmaking was an important and highly exported product. Often being highly covetted in places like China in a way that Fine china ceramics were coveted in Europe.I always thought that it might be interesting to make a european inspired place the "foreign and exotic location where you get luxery goods" If you are in a non european inspired place like if it is more Arabian, Southeast Asian, or Japanese. Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings. If you want to go for something more magical maybe stained glass windows and fine crystal wineglasses that vibrate and hum with magic but will shatter if the magic is not kept in check could be a cool idea. Or maybe you are a glass blower that literally blows in the breath of life to animate glass objects. Glass has a lot of interesting potentials.
>>97835314>always thought that it might be interesting to make a european inspired place the "foreign and exotic location where you get luxery goods" If you are in a non european inspired place like if it is more Arabian, Southeast Asian, or Japanese. Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings. The issue I see with this is that the East having all these exotic goods wasn't just a coincidence, it's way more likely that tropical countries are going to have valuable goods than a northern temperate climate. For example if we assume that there's a one in a hundred chance any given plant will produce a useful spice/dye/medicine/whatever, you're way more likely to find it somewhere like Indonesia which has over 28K species of plants than Britain which has only around 1K (Indonesia being an archipelago also helps a lot here compared to somewhere like Africa since it creates more endemism). This is why all the fancy spices and dyes came from places like India, Indonesia, and China and not Europe. Also there's animal-based goods like silk, ivory, pearls, animal skins, etc to consider as well.Of course not all goods are as ecologically related, like minerals or some manufactured ones like glass that you mentioned, but it's still important to consider because unless you're setting your not-Europe in the jungle they'd probably still need to have a trading relationship with some exotic tropical region to get certain goods.
>>97835681Fair enough. It wont be exotic in the "same way" as warmer and more bio-diverse climates are to europe.I wasnt trying to imply that the not-europe would ONLY export exotic stuff, just that some of the stuff they do export would seem exotic in a non-European inspired main location.ON the topic of glass and silk, I also find it interesting that glass making processes were also jealously guarded just like how silk making processes were in the east. The Venetians being an obvious example, but later on I believe there was like only one small German state that had the knowledge to make the finest telescope lenses and people from all over europe bought them and tried to get the secret. European telescopes more broadly meant were also another major luxury export across the globe.
>>97834742>cogfopCringe.
>>97835314It's just something that exist in the background. It isn't a focus in my setting. There are some fairly advanced applications of glass, like it being a information storage medium, but that is because the tech level of my setting is intentionally all over the place.
Why did domain level play fall out of style?
>>97837556Nobody bought the AD&D domain level modules, and the attempt to reintroduce it in 2E flopped commercially.
Management is a niche compared to just adventuring and doing cool things. I like strategy and management games but even I am not sure I would enjoy such a playstyle right after work.
Long time MtG player (17 years?) and with what's happening to the game rn, i don't really have much interest in any of the new sets. Sorcery looks like it could maybe scratch that itch. The art is fantastic and reminds me of legacy MtG art. Anybody here play?I watched a few overview vids, but I'm curious how the actual gameplay goes. For someone who plays mostly EDH, are there any similarities? Is it usually a 2 player match? How long are the matches usually? Is it as much of a money pit as MtG?Convinced a few of my MtG friends to give it a shot based off of the art alone. Just need an idea of what I'm up against in terms of learning curve.
