I would give elves magical friendship rings.

>>97230484I like to imagine santa's elves as actually a race of snow-dwelling halflings, and they call themselves (honorary) elves because a traveling elf visited their village centuries ago and complimented some craftwork

[Req] Letters from the Dark IX: Book of the Dead
Moloch's Fun Park Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. >>97231387I always had the impression that the Synod and the Church looked like the same premisse mirrored on opposite sides of the conflict, at least lore-wise. If that will be case mechanically, however, I'm not so sure.
Hey /TCG/My partner and i have gotten heavily into the lore and models. We just arent too sure where to start? We have the rules and what not but on the website ive noticed not all have STL links. Also i habe a 3d printer but with no idea how to use it yet
Which of the Armies are recommended for the newest players? I've been excited to start my own warband part of the New Antioch. Yet is that the best way to go?

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different. I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times. Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.
>>97219648The kobold guides and the lazy dungeon master guides are pretty bad in my opinion. The lazy dungeon master stuff started ok if a little basic, but then went into shit not even about the games.
GM advice thread?
>>97218290Be a Master of both paths my sonWorld path) take the OSR pill, as in internalizing the following truth:- be like an Arena Master and a Referee, not a Director. Your job is to throw the PC in the scenarios you engineered, to move the set pieces and react to your players decision accordingly, not to be an illusionist altering the threads behind your screen to force your predetermined and inescapable decisions on the pc;- keep the world around the pc moving, the osr specific tool here is to keep strict track of time in all dimensions. Just as for the microcosm of combat rounds use calendars for days (where to keep track in advance of weather, factions actions and events to be) and proceduralized turns for explorations;- be callous but just, learn to advertise and telegraph dangers but never shy away from them, instead of fixing mistakes in post (fudging dice, use failing forward and deus ex machina tricks) convey openly the risks beforehand leaving ALL the responsability weight on the players decisions alone, make their agency truly matter;- treat combat (and by extension all sorts of scenarios) as a war and not as a sport, make terrain matter, make features matter, make morale matter, make psychology matter, make any of the pc interaction matter. The players are traversing a real field, not a theme park with triggerable events and puppets;- focus on a (per adventure) narrow theme, ask yourself what your game will be about. Hunting monsters? Tomb raiding? Street gangs war? The more specific the better.[Part 1/2]
>>97228205[Part 2/2]Story path) take the Hickman manifesto pill as in internalize the following truth:- have the players engaging with the world on a deeper level than what the game focus presents. Ask them a poignant, short and relevant reason (that may be honest to themselves or not) for their characters motives;- there should be overachieving events in motion the effects of which should influence the characters microcosms (and their decisions influence these events back), have them tackle with this spontaneously unfolding narrative;- make the world have verisimilitude, don't just throw random dungeons and encounters in random locations but try to make sense of them within the context of the world, even in post if necessary. Make notations of these reasons to keep this internal consistency for yourself and not to explain the world to your players. Leave them to make head and tail of it by themselves but reasons should exist nevertheless;- overarching events should culminate within 1 or 2 game session tops in a satisfying manner (as in resolutive). Make extensive use of in media-res to initiate the game and keep the pacing snappy!
Wonderful, was looking for this exact thread.I have been running games for 15ish years but have recently started delving into more narrative-heavy games. Currently running PF2e in a campaign that's a sequel to my previous DND 5e campaign. In the first campaign, the players were stuck in a time loop, and thus had very few consequences to contend with, up until they point they needed to break the time loop and align things to minimize the bad consequences. This next campaign is set after the time loop was broken, and the new characters are effectively tasked with stitching the broken world back together. The issue is, with the world in this very broken state, I've been experimenting with more complicated small settings that require some attention to detail/asking the right questions to pull apart the entire story. My mantra has been "nothing is random, everything has purpose" to sort of hammer this home. My issue is that in many many cases, all but one or two of my players seem to understand the consequences of taking actions without considering everything, and one of those players has been playing a dumb character. So in many circumstances, a good chunk of my party has been left feeling like they're getting railroaded or otherwise do not know how to influence the flow of the world. I've even tried dumbing things down significantly (e.g. the infected forest only needed to be healed by the party's druid) but I've brainwashed them into overthinking ( to the point where having the druid heal the forest was the 5th thing they tried because it was "too obvious"). tl;dr, at what point is slight complexity being too hard the fault of the players rather than the GMs? because I feel like I'm failing a bit right now

>>97231916I was definitely thinking older dragons, but fair point. Some young dumb dragon hopped up on "bow before me I'm the master race" energy would make a decent melee opponent, I suppose.

>>97231775I mean despite all the console war shitposting I fully understand why someone who was fully into whfb at the time would hate aos (spending your free time raiding a thread on a mongolian basket weaving forum 10+ years later is another matter entirely). It's so fundamentally different it really can't be considered a replacement to whfb, though of course that's what gw pushed. As for fatcast, I think generally I prefer the newer stormies but there's definitely some aspects where I prefer the older designs. The shields being a prime example.
>>9723183640k is more about shooting and gotcha moments with stratagems while aos more more straightforward. Generally you can get a good idea of what your opponent is trying to do pretty quickly which is both good and bad in the sense that there are less surprising moments, but you're less likely to have someone just crush you off a stratagem play. This leads to less cautious play, so the games tend to be slightly shorter but not by much. Outside of the game, 40k has a lot more established lore, so it can be harder to /yourdudes/ in 40k without getting people you're hobbying wrong. Aos is wide open, the realms are all weird and varied, and have just enough explored to give an idea without it being so much that you can't insert /yourdudes/. Aos is a little better than fantasy in that respect too, because fantasy has so much established lore that placing/yourdudes/ in a certain place on the map, or having them interact with a certain faction is instantly invalidated by 40 years of maps and stories.
>>97231882If new Liberators had kept the pteruges and chain tabard and styled the new shield similarly to the old one they would’ve been a slam dunk. I don’t dislike them but the only differences they have with Vindictors is the weapon, shield shape, tilt-plate, and the Protector bar on the nose part of the helmet.
>>97231836>What the main difference between the two?I think the way wounds are counted in 40k are different, there are a couple of things that might irk you when you play full 40k if you're learning from aos or vice versa. personally I stay clear of full 2000 point armies and just stick with spearhead because I only ever really get a game (of spearhead) like every other week and I dont want to get invested into a game that can change on the drop like every 4-5 months. but if you really wanted to play with 40k try and get someone to help you out with boarding patrol, I would avoid kill team and combat patrol like the plauge.
Oh something else I found which could be interesting. So apparently in march or so 2017, about a month or two before they actually released, GW had displayed some kharadron miniatures at a convention or something. The interesting thing is that the admiral seems to have a different hammer shape than the one he currently has. I wonder if this was a prototype or a more mundane conversion by one of the staff? The latter seems unlikely to me since at the time this was essentially a preview miniature. Anyone have more info on this?
>They were never an actual threat to the world because the literal God of the world and his angels would never let them win. Do you cuck your dark lord on purpose or give them an actual fighting chance in your game?
>What kind of name is Wilbur?
>>97227404It really irritates me that the books treat both Morgoth and Sauron as non-issue pushovers. The idea of them being doomed to lose and good winning is fine, but that's an omniscient cosmological view. The actual characters should consider them pretty terrifying bad guys, but Morgoth is literally laughed at by the other Valar and bullied and Sauron is punked on by a dog and Gandalf treats fighting him and destroying the ring as urgent as having afternoon tea. It saps any tension the narrative might have otherwise, and it's one thing the movies did better imo, especially with the Ring.>movie: gandalf finds the ring, oh fuck oh shit frodo you need to get out of here, this is dangerous shit, even i shouldn't touch this, it's too powerful>book: gandalf finds the ring, oh wow so interesting anyway pass me the pipeweed frodo, i'm gonna crash at your place for a year and chill out, the ring's no big deal it can wait, last time sauron had it he lost anyway (this is without exaggeration literally how it goes in the book)They go on to take it to Tom Bombadil who acts like it's just a worthless piece of tin and laughs about it, then to Elrond who suggests maybe someone should destroy it and Glorfindel says it's not worth his time and he can't be bothered to so Frodo volunteers via mind control by Gandalf. Also without exaggeration what happens in the book. The writing is much worse than most people realize.
>>97231498Did you ask a chatbot for that, because it's wildly inaccurate.
>>97228514The dwarves were close to being destroyed. The main difference between Aulë and Melkor is that Aulë immediately expressed deference when confronted about his creation and offered to end it himself, so Eru showed magnanimity. So ultimately, what Melkor got punished for is his arrogance.
