It dawned on me while I was speaking to my wife that the stereotypical murderhobo adventurers of D&D are like fantasy warrior gig workers. With that in mind, what would it take for an enterprising wizard (or group thereof) to come up with the fantasy warrior equivalent of something like Fiverr? You have a murderhobo related task you need done, you relay it to the system/spell/network, "Goblins stole my things, willing to pay ___ for their return", the system searches for the nearest registered murderhobos with relevant skills and offers them the job in return for a cut?
>>97408896You really believe that op is such a naive idiot that he really believes he is the first to have realized that a hobo is a traveling tradesman and so a murderhobo is a traveling tradesman whose trade is murder and tradesmen tend to form trade guilds? It's bait. Also the concept predates the Japanese take on western fantasy by more than a decade in the least.
>>97408403It would take a lot.The issue is that access to such a system is contingent on access to either a magic user or a magic item. Both of these, as you might expect, are pretty expensive. Like yes, the computer network analogy is technically valid, but these are old school university computers on a university network; not everyone has access to such systems. If long distance communications are solved with essentially modern day forums and instant messaging, then the D&D-style medieval fantasy world you've kludged together around this concept probably no longer exists. If you wanted something similar to this, you could have a commerce deity subcontract out mercenary work through his various temples. This would bypass most of the logistical issues, but 'a god did it' is little better than 'a wizard did it'.
>>97408957>the service is provided by the cult Arnesus, God of Murderhobos, at any of their regional branches

I made a PC that was accidentally Richard Sharpe without ever having watched or read it. I had another player point it out to me at the table. Is this a good watch/read? Should I start with the books first?
>>97405277Read the books first if you like reading. But you don't have to, the show stands on its own.
>>97405277The books are a bit different but the general style is close enough to the series (in the books Sharpe becomes an officer in India, while in the series he becomes one in Spain)I found the books to be a little bit samey like all Cornwell books imo, but I suppose I enjoyed them for some fictionslop

is longbow battle master a thing
>>97408209Yes! In fact, depending on the version of 5e its quite good. In 2014 5e, Ranged Weapons in general are the best weapons in the game due to the power of the Archery Fighting Style, the Sharpshooter Feat, and Extra Attack. Great damage, high range, ignoring cover (Which 99.9% of creatures cannot do), the range allows you to usually maneuver around the battlefield to take advantage of cover and hazards to trick up your opponents. Battle Masters in particular are really good for this style of play due to them having combat maneuvers like Precision Attack (Which you can use after rolling to boost your to hit roll), Menacing Attack (Long Range Frighten for movement shut down and disadvantage on their attacks), Trip Attack (To trip foes), Pushing Attack (Push foes into hazards or away from allies or off cliffs), and other nice options to go with it!2024 5e is a little different due to Sharpshooter not giving the big damage bonus it had in 2014, but it's still solid due to Longbows having the Heavy Property allowing you to get the Great Weapon Master feat- it just requires a wider stat spread than it used to. Hypothetically, you could get Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and still max out your Dexterity all by level 8 as a Fighter, which means you'll still be doing solid enough damage without the loss to accuracy that 2014 Longbow users were dealing with. Battle Masters are more or less the same, though at higher levels they get a great buff with Relentless and can be even more mobile than they were before.
Any ideas for how to incorporate Thieves Cant into games? I'm running Mines and I had the idea of the proprietor of The Sleeping Giant be a former member of the Neverwinter Thieves Guild who got her bag and retired. The signage would indicate to those in the know (such as members of the Redbrands or my Rogue) that the place is safe for unsavoury types. I'd also have symbols akin to Depression-era hobo slang near Tressendar Manor that indicate that business is to be conducted in the cellar and that the upstairs is unsafe to navigate.

>>97408640>first stage of eugenics should be weeding out all eugenicistsWhile I appreciate the sentiment, there are practical applications of eugenics, such as Iceland's app to avoid cousin fucking or cascade testing and genetic counseling (both things recommended by the CDC and not just under this administration) to avoid children being born with heritable diseases. That said, that sort of shit is generally not what anyone calling themselves a "eugenicist" means.
