4/5c is effectively saying
>my mana is going to be slow and clunky, but I'm going to do some broken shit nobody else gets to do
1/2c is saying
>my mana is good therefore I get to do whatever specific thing I choose very well

3c is in this weird place where your mana doesn't feel good but the payoffs aren't as broken as 4/5c
amalia is basically the only exception to this, if you try to make a generic 3c deck, you just feel like you're doing something worse than 4/5c without the consistency of 1/2c

How did you find a deck that just "clicks" for you? Was it a mechanic, a color combination, or a tribe that caught your attention, or do you play whatever is best in whichever format you're a part of? I got into Golgari because of Dredge, but as Dredge shifted more blue for a long while, I lost interest in the mechanic and went back to the colors.

Based basic land enjoyer.
>>
>>93372424
It didn't have to. Sets filled with legendaries have become too regular. DMU can be considered an outlier but LCI wasn't so long ago and is close to OTJ.
>>
>>93372490
The average is somewhere between 25-35, and probably will trend a bit downwards towards more like 15-20-ish if their talk about actively pushing the numbers of legendaries down is true. OTJ, by that logic, is an outlier. Though it has no real mechanical reason to be an outlier, it had no legendary subtheme or anything, etc.
>>
>>93372507
>it had no legendary subtheme or anything
except for the enchantments that need legendary creatures to enter
thats a big one
>>
>>93372527
A single cycle of rare cards isn't much of a theme, but fair, it did have those. Nothing else in the set that cared about legendaries, and even on the angle of it being a showcase sort of set to have a bunch of people from across Magic in it, they also just had a bunch of literally random nobodies.

>"But what's the significance of instant speed?!"
You might ask, if you're retarded. The significance is manlands and vehicles. They are more difficult to interact with than other threats, so the more we can secure ourselves against them the better. Tergrid's Shadow did pretty well in some quick tests. The utility of Foretell is surprising, dodging late game thoughtseizes, tucking itself out of reach of our own Lili +1s. Lots of potential, might even find its way into a 2-of slot.

Aside from that, the Sideboard feels solid now. I'm still meandering between Bile Blight and the Ratchet Bomb bros. Blight has more universal potential, but Ratchet does its specific job better.

And, of course, why the fuck wasn't Meathook in here earlier. What a ridiculous card. Adds even more random life gain, it's a decent enough fast board wipe and even can chop its way through huge threats in the late game, if it needs to. Welcome aboard, you cold blooded murder spree!

One more contender for a prize piece of the deck, rather fitting given the Black Hole name.

We have some mighty control pieces, but extreme fast starts out the gate can still smash through the cracks. Sphere of Annihilation may seem like an odd pick, given it sits around like a brick for an entire turn before doing anything.

But I think it will do the job. Firstly, because that turn you're sitting around is a turn they are not able to play more fast threats out. I mean, if they want to feed the sphere they can, but it's a bad idea otherwise.

Path to Peril would be the obvious choice for a similar option, but I think Sphere has a nice place. Its variability puts it a might bit higher than Sphere in my estimation, even if we have to face tank a full hit to reap the benefits. We're chads, we can take the hit. Coasting on 1-5 life is a premium feature of this deck.

Fortunately, Bloomburrow seems relatively low powered compared to most recent sets other thank MKM, and also seems extremely popular so it'll probably sell well. Maybe they'll finally learn that good art, good aesthetics, and good mechanics can make up for a lack of powercreep.

The black virtue is a very solid 1-of.
I also have grown fond of a 1-of March of Wretched Sorrow. It does surprising work in the late game, easily sucking up 8+ life to stabilize.

Since you're fairly heavy on permanents, Seed of Hope may be a good option for quick filtering and some life gain. Might have to drop a few more nonpermanent spells to get it more reliable though. Candy Trail has served me alright and proved to be not the worst card in the universe, but it's not incredible.
Courser of Kruphix is surprisingly not awful.

I stopped playing MTG for a few years now besides the occasional commander match here and there, but I always come back for spoiler season and most of the cards feel like cards they have released before, but with one or two words changed in minimal ways. So, Ensoul Artifact proved to be a very fun deck when I tested it. It's a real riot. Felt like I wanted to contribute to the brew, started cracking at it.

The first thing that caught my eye is one of my all time favorites: Tough Cookie. What a brick house, this fucker is. Six potential life gain in a pinch, 6/6 stat line for 1G and... Oh! Well doesn't that activated ability fit into Ensoul perfectly!

So I started fiddling with Simic Ensoul Cookies. Gilded Goose replaced Epicure effortlessly. More importantly, we get Tamiyo Compleat in simic. Turns out being able to whip Ensouls out of the grave for a second go is preeeeeeeetty good. She may not end up making the cut in the long run, but locking down blockers while reanimating Ensouls is one hell of a clean way to secure otherwise stalled games.
But I just kept running into a problem: We lose Shrapnel Blast. That's a big hit. Blast is a key murder weapon in Ensoul...

But wait, we have tons of food now. We can probably sustain 4x Mana Confluence happily enough... and damn, Spire of Industry too, alongside Darksteel Citadels we already run. And fuck it, we're a hardcore aggro deck. If we're so slow in a game that we're dying to mana burn, we already fucked up. Well, what the hell! Let's just go for it.

Temur Ensoul Cookies is here! This is an only very lightly tested work in progress for now. It shall only grow more refined with tests.
>>
>>93379137
Sheoldred really needed this buff. We really needed a better Necropotence.

Getting to play 12x 1-drops means Temur Cookies is brutally, brutally streamlined. Alongside the Darksteel Citadels, If we start Ensoul, it's going to land on turn 2. Held back, sadly, by Pioneer's garbage fire mana, but it's at least a 3c deck that can abuse some cheaty mana options to spread things out.

Going to need a lot of testing to get the mana base feeling right. For now, I hope the thought of ensouling some gingerbread cookies can titillate you.

Amalia is fine but ban Aetherflux.

Which set
>>
>>93380283
I think they're likelier to ban Walker instead of Amalia. Walker makes Amalia almost too predictable. She'd still have a place in lifegain decks regardless, but it wouldn't be as nonsense without the combo.
>>
I have lost to Amalia actually hitting me exactly zero (0) times.
I have lost to Aetherflux many (>1) times.

Amalia is not a broken combo. Aetherflux is a broken combo finisher.

Maybe your mind can't be changed until more broken cards are released before the end of the year and all those cards pale in comparison to the broken shit just over the horizon.

I used to run a Swarmyard insect deck in modern back in the 2010s. Sure, it had a very low winrate, but when it did win, the seething was glorious.

General thoughts on Bloomburrow?
>>
>>93380368
6/10
Unforgivably shit mechanics. Bland flavor. Awful story. Shallow setting. Good art.
>>
>>93380368
I have difficulty evaluating it as a player and not as a furfag
>>
>>93380368
7/10
Weak powerlevel, obtuse mechanics, superb art, enjoyed the lore, fun plane hope we return sooner than later and it sells well.
>>
>>93380368
Looks pretty if its fun to draft thats all i care about so lets see
>>
>>93380368
It’s the first set I’ve been excited for in a long time. Detectives and cowboys sucked ass. There’s actually some creativity and artistry going on here at least. Hoping it plays well.
>>
>>93380407
I'm expecting draft to be solid this time around. You have Offspring as a mana sink and the Common 1-drops are looking anemic, so games can run longer. The most powerful Rares imo require building around the tribal synergies and the truly oppressive cards like Maha are in the Mythic slot.
>>
>>93379238
You can add hard evidence or similar (0/3 crab + clue token for U) for 16 1 drops
>>
>>93380461
I've said "the one drops don't look that good this time" every set for the past several years and every time I get blown out by someone whose curve tops out at 3. I'm leery.
>>
>>93380479
Ohhh fuck yeah bud I dig it. Huge suggestion, nice.
>>
>>93380479
You bamboozler! That's not Pioneer legal!

shit, sorry bro, forgot that manmade horrors are illegal in your format. As a pauper player - i wish we were so lucky...

>>93380368
It might be better than what I'm willing to admit. The art is ok, gift and offspring look entertaining enough and the set is going to impact constructed if only because of rotations.

I play commander, which bloomburrow commander should I invest in? I like the offspring mechanic but unsure if it's worth getting the family matters deck (not the colors I play) or the squirrels.

The fact that WotC has had bad enough ideas in the past that Foundations isn't the worst idea they've ever come up with is mind blowing.

What makes you think Foundations will have anything game changer besides some reprint and new Standard level shit? So far the cards showed are Standard warping at best
>>
>>93380617
>What makes you think Foundations will have anything game changer besides some reprint and new Standard level shit?
He says, talking about WotC, for some unknown reason assuming that WotC won't fuck everything up.
>>
>>93380617
Llanowar Elves and Day of Judgment are at least 'notable' for Standard, but nothing in Foundations so far seems like it'll do much for Pioneer. Granted we've only seen like five cards, and 3 are reprints that I think were already Pioneer legal except DoJ? No idea if something like Nine-Lives Familiar will do much anywhere. But we haven't remotely seen the full set, so I'm withholding judgement.
>>
>>93380617
it's their way of doing things, ruin them for everyone else
>>
>>93380617
We already know it's bringing a real 4 mana wrath and llanowar elves. Elves might amount to nothing because lol green but 4 mana on T3 enabler is going to see play in some form. And the wrath looming overhead makes this tribal set pretty piss poor. As if sunfall wasn't bad enough now you can't even try to aggro them before it hits since it's T4 wrath.
>>
>>93380665
That cat is both expensive and not even good. In fact Cauldron familiar, my boy, outshines it.
>>
>>93380686
DoJ is honestly not something that I feel will do a lot. Death triggers are so common that exile wipes are just more 'necessary'.

>>
>>93380686
I can agree about it's impact in Standard specially if Convoke keeps living, but in Pioneer? Meh.
>>
>>93372695
Dewdrop Cure and Heartfire Hero, just about yeah.
>>
>>93380283
Apparently Memory Deluge is bugged, so UW isn't keeping Amalia down as well as it should.
>>
whats the difference between skill and luck
>>
>>93380846
Skill is brewing your own deck.
Luck is playing someone else's and it happening to be the top one.
>>
>>93380586
being an esl with windows set to native language? No idea honestly, for example "native" is a-ok here, so is "a-ok", but "honestly" is marked
>>
>>93380846
can't learn luck
>>
>>93380846
In the context of Magic skill is about minimizing the effects of poor variance and luck is having good variance.
>>
>>93380846
Skill=What i have when i win
Luck=What you have when i lose
>>
>>93380846
I was gonna say >>93380959
so I'll just second them. You need to know what luck looks like for your opponent, and set yourself up to be lucky.
>>
>>93380846
>Skill
Playing to your outs
>Luck
Not playing to your outs but getting the win anyways because you drew good.
>>
>>93380846
Skill is knowing when not to play your cards.
Luck is playing them and winning anyway.
>>
>>93380846
Skill:What it takes to play a brew
Luck:What people have normally playing Nadu, Amalia, Atraxa Domain...
>>
>>93380846
skill = knowing you might top deck it and playing to that
luck = just topdecking it whether you thought about it or not
>>
>>93378804

It doesn't count if it's reprinting a card with a generic name, only if they have to rename it like the Stranger Things tie-ins.

And one more update for Black Hole this time around. Might as well touch it up after the Ensoul Cookies action.

-1 Stone Brain for more active pieces. The End picks up most of the extract slack, and as much as the first one or two Brains can make or break a game, we really don't want too many flooding our early hands.

Orb of Annihilation is hilarious. Absolute nutter card, definitely doing exactly what I need it to. Plays incredibly into Fable too, as you can lay it down the turn before Fable flips and force them into an awkward position, unable to lay down more threats while they wait for the sphere to pop. Very happy with this include, plugs many holes that other fast board wipes in mono-black struggle to, and does so with extra versatility of an X cost rather than 1BB or 2BB or whatever.
