Alright, so here's a standard legal infinite combo.
With The clown and pic related 3 cards on the board you activate the clown to make a copy of Ertha. Ertha copies the trigger, with the copy, you copy the recruiter and target your own clown. The clown will untap and the Ertha copy will create a 1/1 (You legend rule the old Ertha away).
Now you have an untapped Ertha copy, an untapped 1/1 flying Reptilian Recruiter with haste and an untapped Clown. You use the Relic to tap the Ertha token and now you have the mana to do it again.
Each iteration will net you two 1/1 tokens, with one of them having haste and flying.
You can basically make infinite hasting 1/1s this way.
It's totally unplayable garbage since it requires you to have 3 creatures on the board that total 12 mana, but a fun thought experiment on how it would be possible to break it right now.

>Your opponent has all of their creatures untapped to defend themselves

Skeletons continues to evolve.
With more testing, I'm starting to lean away from the pure Sligh variant and more into a midrange toolkit list. Case of the Stashed Skeleton machine gunning Demonic Tutors if they try to stop our pressure is FUCKING. RIDICULOUS.
Skeletal Swarming is cracked, turning a manageable board into 15+ trampling power in no time at all.

Fruits of Tizerus is out for Cling to Dust. Cling is just too potent.
And, sadly, Death Baron is out for now. It's a shame that Pioneer is in a state where you can't just play efficient tribal lords and have them work. If Baron drew a card on ETB, now we're talking. But it doesn't. It not being a Skeleton, gaining no haste from Corpses, was a big hit too. Glissa doesn't suffer the similar fate due to how absurd she is by herself.

Visage of Dread is proving pretty solid. Disruption in the early game, and a haymaker late game. A very good mix.

Basically, if we can lock down the game into the midgame, the torrent of Corpses of the Lost, Rot Farm Skeleton and Skeletal Swarming is way too much for any deck to handle. It feels great, but still needs some tuning. And a sideboard would probably also help.

Still, I REALLY like this deck. Fast and resilient. It has everything you could ever want.

I think we're past the point of them justifying anything. They do whatever it is they want and they don't give a shit what you think because the majority of players lack your ability to see things and either they approve of it or condemn you.

I don't mean to say this as an insult, but why do you still have any faith in them? It's been the same people running the game for over 20 years and they have only made the game worse. Yes, there's more cards to do more things, but stores are dead and dead stores means no paper game (except EDH), and no paper game means people aren't talking and no talking means no way to get good ideas. So the majority moves online, where there is no voice but YouTuber and Twitch dickriders who beg for a suck at Wizards' dick for a box of promo product.

if you still have shocklands, you can make a competitive aggro deck like ensoul or convoke for like $100, if you don't, you can make white humans for about the same price

yeah RDW doesn't run any threats with 3+ mana value anymore, lockdown is a full wipe against them that also takes out mirran banesplitters and prevents demonic ruckus from drawing cards
this is absolutely unambiguously worse than temporary lockdown vs RDW

this is however 3 mana plague wind in normal fair / midrange aggro vs aggro deck like deep cavern bat tribal
>>
>>93777189
Karakas stopped people from playing Lurrus?
>>
>>93776742
Mechanically it is red with white giving flying
Flavorfully red traits are emotion over logic and caring for the life of your friends over caring for all life.
White traits are caring for your in group and caring about what is legally right over what is instinctively right.
>>
>>93776406
If you put this in a deck that runs 2~3 Mutavaults it's already great, the difference between a 2/2 and a 3/3 or a 4/4 when you want to close games is pretty noticeable.

also the only karakasseable threat in dimir reanimator was atraxa since they didnt even run griselbrand and archon of cruelty isn't a legendary, and bouncing an atraxa doesnt really matter since the ETB already won the game. The addition of Hearse maindeck has shifted the deck from feeling like it smokes crack, to feeling like it shoots PCP. Extremely easy, FREE Crimes plus an inevitably gigantic body that the Miners can fucking crew after recurring on their end step.

Things grow more streamlined by the second. It's growing VERY hard to deal with. Like, three Reflections of Kiki-Jiki can't put out enough blockers to stop it hard.

I'm already seeing people not understanding Rooms, despite them being... Honestly kind of straightforward? The reminder text isn't the most clear, but it's hardly incomprehensible. People just make weird leaps in logic when it comes to, like, cheating them in. The most wonky thing is that copying one that's in play means you copy its locked/unlocked states. If it came into play untapped it would be a 4 of in every 2+ color deck ever made because it would be a prismatic land with no downside

This is the old problem of 5 color lands where taplands need to do more than just fix your mana to justify their huge tempo loss (ie manlands that also fix colors), because if all they do is fix colors than they're fucking garbage
even in a dedicated enchantment-matters deck this won't be worth its tempo loss in most cases

this seriously needed something like:
>Valgavoth's Lair
>Enchantment Land
>Hexproof
>As long as you control six or more lands, other lands you control are enchantments in addition to their other types
>Valgavoth's Lair enters the battlefield tapped. As it enters, choose a color.
>{T}: Add one mana of the chosen color

there, fucking fixed it world tree style

We already have lands like that, and they barely see any play because they can only tap for one color at a time. It would be good in Standard and stop being relevant after rotation.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/planeswalkers-guide-to-duskmourn

Duskmourn guide got updated.
Origins of The House (entirely new)
Basically Marina befriend the Valgavoth and lured her bullies to him. After their deaths people began disappearing. Marina threatened to burn down the house but made a deal with Valgavoth. Now she sees everything as it once was despite it no longer being true.

Valgavoth
As he grows older and more powerful, Valgavoth molts out of his older form and into a new, larger body. Some believe he's doing this because he's still trying to break the curse that tethers him to the House. Others believe that these molts are just the natural way that demons grow.

Marina Vendrell
As part of his promise to her, Valgavoth swore to restore the House to its normal state. Or rather, he restored her perception of the world, encasing her in a bubble of warped unreality that transforms the House wherever she goes so that she only sees a normal world, not the horrific environment it's become.

Cellarspawn
Cellarspawn have an innate connection to the House and an instinctual understanding of the House's geography. They can sense impending shifts to the House's geography and take advantage of them to spring surprise attacks upon survivors.

Like other manifestations, most cellarspawn are unconsciously created by the House. The main exception to this are the overlords, which Valgavoth deliberately created to help enact his will and carry out occasional targeted campaigns of terror. There’s one overlord for each zone of the House.

Survivors
The longer newcomers remain in the House, the more their memories of their home planes are altered, until they come to believe they've always lived in the House. They still retain memories and knowledge of other planes, but become convinced they learned it all secondhand.

Why is Fable still allowed in Pioneer?
>>

its a fair card
>>
>>93776742
the real answer is:
>one of the card designers wanted those colours for his clown EDH deck
>>
>>93778568
Fable is a fair card and encourages slow formats

Degenerate formats end the game on turn 3. That's where pretty much every format is right now. Fable gives you a fucking grey ogre on the board on turn 3, its a 2/2 blocker until turn 4.
Its not a 3 drop game ending avengers level threat like every other card needs to be now, where if you don't kill it immediately it kills you in 1-2 swings. Opponents curves 1 drop into 2 drop lord into adeline? Adeline will hit you for 2 damage on turn 3, then on turn 4 she's contributing 10-11 damage, next turn 13-15 damage. You don't have instant speed removal that kills an x/4 on the spot? Whoops you're already behind 2 life and a 2/2 token even if you untap and answer her

Fable and invoke despair being banned in standard when kumano, swiftspear, heartfire, slickshot all go unbanned is a joke. I have never felt like a fable deck stopped me from playing a game of magic

There's no point at which fable either threatens to end the game, locks opponents out of the game, cheats in game ending threats or anything else to actually stop a game of magic in its tracks.
All it does is provide incremental advantage. +1 ramp treasures, 2 card draw/discard, an incredibly slow kiki jiki.

If a format is slow enough that fable can be a usable card than its a healthy format, that's just a fact. And thus, its a healthy, fair card. You know what would happen if you played fable on turn 3 in standard right now? You'd never untap on turn 4

There is a financial incentive for Hasbro/WOTC to both print broken cards and to keep them in circulation. The only cards they do ban are the ones which are so format warping that they can't ignore the problem, like Nadu.

What WOTC/Hasbro now has is an unstable growth that can only be sustained by continuing to print cards that are even more broken than their predecessors. This growth will one day hit its breaking point and kill its host for good. I can't say when the breaking point will come for sure. Every match in every format except standard right now usually ends on turn 3, yet it's still alive somehow.

>>93778842
>There's no point at which fable either threatens to end the game, locks opponents out of the game, cheats in game ending threats or anything else to actually stop a game of magic in its tracks.
if you flip two of them you can dump all your mana into one of them copying the other one on the opponent's end step then untap and swing for like 10. you can facilitate this by playing 4 of them in your deck and using the first one to dig for the second one.
>>
>>93778867
EDH is casual magic pretending to be a format
>>
>>93778873
You'll get no argument from me, but that's why the game isn't dying--the most widely played form of it isn't choking on the same shit. Competitive Magic hasn't been evaluated as a significant component of the revenue stream since Time Spiral block.
>>
>>93777567
The hexproof is basically necessary. The rarity is a huge mistake though
>>
>>93778881
>the most widely played form of it isn't choking on the same shit
It's getting pretty damn close even outside of EDH because even in that format the power level has been escalating a lot. I played against someone with a abzan counters deck who ran nearly the entire table over with like a 64/64 trampler not 5 turns in.
>>
>>93778861
>>I cast Archfiend of Dross and copy it with my Kiki-Jiki
so at the earliest on turn SIX, with a combo requiring two different creatures to survive and can be stopped by ANY removal spell down to shock or cut down, you can use your kiki jiki to deal 6 damage
bravo

>>93778868
the "threat" that appears immediately is a 2/2 that cost 3 mana, its about as threatening as grey ogre. It ramps you but it doesn't actually kill the opponent

Its like you haven't even seen what actually degenerate cards do. Slickshot Showoff deals 20 damage on its own by casting random spells. Grief locks you out of the game before you've even played your first land. You didn't get down 2+ creatures to answer a Liliana on turn 3? She both softlocks the game state on her own and then ultimates to hard lock it.
You want to pretend that a 3 mana card that just gives you a trivially killed treasure goblin and faithless looting before turn 6 is some broken busted format warping card meanwhile wizards printed
let me remind you this exists
they printed
and again, for emphasis:

TIME WALK FOR FOUR MANA

>>
>>93778900
and in busted formats the game is over on turn 1 and in standard its over on turn 3-4 and you're talking about a kiki jiki that only gets over its summoning sickness on turn 6 when your opponent somehow passed over it so mercifully it must have sacrificed a lamb and put blood on its door because you need to untap with a 2/2 exposed for a full cycle to do anything
>>
>>93778910
>and in busted formats the game is over on turn 1
>>
>>93778838
ProsBloom was an extended combo deck named for Prosperity and Cadaverous Bloom, also notably supported by Squandered Resources and Natural Balance.

Long.dec was an early 2000's Vintage deck born from newly released Storm cards. It was widely regarded as the best deck ever created and was disgustingly consistent at turn 1 and 2 Storm kills. It used cheap fast mana in tandem with wishes, tutors, and draw 7's to power out consistent fast kills even in the face of interaction. Its the reason that Lion's Eye Diamond is an expensive card and still restricted in Vintage to this day, and the reason Burning Wish was formerly restricted. It is truly THE storm deck.

The reason it's Rare is because of limited. They're just designing for Arena. That's the real issue. When BO1 Standard is your most played format, you start building for it. Which means aggro needs to be faster to get those dailies done. And if aggro is faster, then you need to be able to sweep faster and faster too so that aggro will scoop sooner and dailies get done quicker.

Survival is a non-keyword because it doesn't condense information. "If it's tapped during the second main phase, do a thing" but the "thing" is going to be different on all of these survival creatures. It's also a massive cop out, since the idea is that you survived combat, but any Survival creature with a good ability will get tapped manually to keep it safe and creatures with Vigilance can't Survival because they don't tap. It should say "if this creature attacked", but it doesn't for some strange reason.

>>
>>93781870

>>
I think they've actually pushed the powerlevel so high that they're going to be forced to make "BO1 Standard" its own format with its own bans. Which concerns me because then I think they become even bolder with their aggro design choices, knowing they can banhammer it from Arena without worrying about paper sales.
>>
>>93781870
Just think about chaining them together. How many cards are 2 mana for a 2/2 that draws 2? If there's any decent fodder or sac synergy in the set, this thing has a ton of value.
>>
>>93781900
As I said earlier, it's a signpost uncommon, meaning the whole theme of Black-Red in the set will be sacrificing creatures and Enchantments, so hopefully we'll get some good cards for the strategy.
>>
>>93781900
They've already shown the 1 drop that pings when it dies. Fear of Losing Teeth, I think. So Rakdos Sacrifice is definitely coming back.

The ability word serves to make designs cohesive and allow mental shorthand. If I see something has a landfall ability, I know when and how it triggers even if I don't know what it does. That sort of batching is useful when dealing with complex cards.
