Example in the image is my defiler which only had an undercoat on it because I haven't got round to painting it fully yet compared to Haarken and the Raptors

My first miniature is about to get washed. It's crazy how much worse a model looks in a photo, this looks pretty much perfect to my eye but I can already notice a bunch of imperfections now that I have a picture of it.

Anyways, the game plan is to wash it with nuln oil, glaze the arms, legs, and chest with a watered down mix of brown and orange, hit those areas with agrax earthshade, do a very light and gentle dry brush with iron hands steel on the extremities along with a brush highlight on some of the harder to reach spots, and then finally do the glowing parts with a layer of base white and a layer or two of tesseract glow.

That's the spirit! One of the corner stones of Malice's doctrine is weird self destructive impulses. That's Malice telling you to do that shit.

Susoga! Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, a tactics RPG made by Owlcat who also made the critically acclaimed Pathfinder video games, is now on sale in celebration of Warhammer season.

Also the season pass DLC is recommended instead of the individual DLCs since they are at the same price but season pass has future update.

>>
>>94083662
I think to fix him you could make him one of the Forgemasters for the Forge of Souls, along with whoever is the biggest most powerful darkmech leader and other daemons of the Forge. Forgemasters being whose in charge after their leader Vashtorr the Arkifane (which literally means leader of the shrine) was kicked out.
Another anon suggested this idea and it captured my imagination. That way the Forge of Souls can be tied to mutiple different characters and daemons and not just Vashtorr making it more interesting and have personaility/ Vashtorr being an exiled forgemaster as punishment for trying to reach godhood and breaking the truce/ non alignment of the forge to the big 4 also explains his 'sudden' apperance. Then we can get power plays and conflict over whose working with the exiled one. And different daemon designs since some don't like how he looks like hes naked wearing an apron.

On Perturabo it makes him far more interesting, explains how hes a deamon primarch but not tied to the 4, he has been a daemon primarch since Realms of Chaos so I'd say its central to his 40k identity. Gives him agency as he hasnt just been on his daemon world for 40k years doing nothing but climbing the infernal ranks and a controlling and leader of a vital immaterial realm. Also gives a good reason for Iron Warriors to have unqiue and special daemon engines, warp viruses like the obliterators while still not being a pray and faith heavy legion.
>>
>>94083726
I'm not convinced that's the actual reason since most anons in here never once played the game under any edition.

Historically it's because the glass cannon nature of the army made them always hard to balance so they have always alternated between periods where they're game-breaking op and periods where they're shit to play, of course the former scar the playing community longer.

Furthermore, since warhammer is a setting that tries to have everyone as inimical one way or another, and since warhammer still ultimately has humans as protagonists and since the marine fanbase has some deep seated insecurity issues they express with exaggerated revenge porn, then elves with their innate superiority and arrogance become the ideal target for attacks.

Finally, in more recent years, the warhammer community has been plagued by newfags who make their favourite faction their own personality, in /40kg/ specifically this mental illness has been most evident with the recent slaaneshi shitposter, who attacks the eldar and projects whatever is necessary onto eldarfags, in order to justify hating on the eldar.

It is also humorous to poke at the incredible age of some parts of the range and the seeming curse they have regarding their fate in almost every book or narrative, but here it's one of those things where you laugh in order to not cry at the terrible management.

I don't quite understand the Space Marine codex
A solid third of the codex is just statlines for Marine leaders in different armour (Can't this just be optional point-buy in one dataslate?). There are like 10 different units that have nothing but bolters and maybe one rule, and you'd think that's alright, but then for a few points more I can run a squad of 10 plasma guys who have enough firepower to instantly kill whatever they look at, or a Dread that's doing its best to cosplay a 6th ed Riptide. I can either run a squad of 10 bolter cucks or for no point increase(?) give them jetpacks and then run them with a HQ to instantly kill whatever they get to in melee.
Like, 90% of the stuff here is straight garbage, a solid third of the codex is just named characters/HQ options and the stuff that isn't shit is really busted.
Why are Melee Cents even a thing?

ideally you would have one unit dedicated to full BDSM monstrous fuckers

and one unit with aspects of both blending together

which is why I would say terminators are a bad fit for EC, instead I'd have noise marines, creations of bile and something completely new

As a tyranid fan, I think orks deserve to be the main antagonistic posterboys:
tyranids are the alien threat
chaos are the enemy within
necrons are the ancient evil
orks are the best possible frienemies you could always count on in any circumstance doesn't matter when, doesn't matter where, doesn't matter how, and it never gets old

but we both know GW wants chaos to be the main big bad because their writers cannot actually write

new 40k guy here. i have a question regarding painting. are there any tips for how to make my models look presentable despite having very shaky hands, and general poor painting ability as a result? I'm absolutely adoring the hobby so far, and building and painting would be, in theory, my favourite part, but I'm just so bad at fine motor skills that I'm finding it really stressful since I keep making my models look like shit. I've only tried painting a couple of models, and they all look hideous, since I'm just not precise enough with such a tiny brush on a tiny model. I love my world eaters, and I want them to look cool, especially since I've put some time into coming up with my own custom warband idea, but my physical ability is holding me back. any bros have advice? I looked into painting services but they're so fucking expensive, to get the patrol + angron painted it was like £3000. I'm looking for some cheaper options, and will probably just get angron himself painted and do the best I can with my other troops, but if there are any good techniques for getting models looking good with minimal detail, or other such ways to bypass my shitty hands, I'd love to hear them.

Unironically, go check out /wip/. Is the shaking due to nervousness or something else? Shaking can decrease as you build up the muscle control and skill. Supporting your elbow on a solid surface helps a lot. Having a beer can help if it you're nervous to just calm down. The other kicker is just having less caffeine before painting

But yeah, bare minimum for an all-Krieg army is just the core three infantry/HW/command kits and I'd say that's well within the scope of a big codex release, especially since one of those kits already exists.

I mean.. it technically can be.
You can turn the big knight into a despoiler, the rest into wardogs and buy some actual chaos wardog kits to finish off the entire thing.
Knights and Chaos Knights are neat from a modeling standpoint because there is very little that differentiates the two armies. All you need is some magnets and a few extra weapon bits to change loadouts.

paint the chords/wires going under the gun in a yellow or red or something. you can just paint the dots on the barrel with white or grey and then put green contrast paint or tesseract glow and it's done.

You can also use very watery white paint to get in the cracks and then let a green contrast paint flow in there if you want to paint that part too.

I like how Space Marine players don’t understand basic storytelling devices and genuinely think one Space Marine is equivalent to like a hundred Tau or a hundred Eldar or a Hundred Orkz or a hundred Chaos Space Marines.

Like people who watch WWE understand storytelling better than Space Marine players do, of course the “face” character is gonna win against the army of nameless faceless jobbers to hype them up. But this goes both ways depending on the story’s perspective.

secondaries are the new market. GW preys upon those who are too ignorant to buy secondhand or from 3rd party sites.

The former lead product designer said that their biggest spenders (besides 30 something year old balding whales) are aunts and moms buying something for their teenage son/nephew. they walk into the store and buy whatever the shopkeeper tells them to buy because they don't know any better. they get suckered into the 35 USD mould line remover.

You have the 40k-tubers who all upload the same videos (complete with manscaped/squarespace sponsor segment) to blame for inducing frenzy and consoomerism with the release of space marine 2. You have been left behind. Sorry.

GW are retarded and refuse to change the game from I GO U GO so things like reactive movement and fragile-but-deadly units designed to trade up their points before dying will always be disproportionately valuable (especially in alpha strike scenarios), especially since they present a higher ceiling. Add in that Eldar have high mobility and are good at scoring, while many 40k players try to play the game like it's Halo Team Deathmatch and just want to table their opponent's armies and you can see the results.
You don't see the same reeee elf hate in Kill Team because that game has alternating activations by default and the low model count means everybody having a bunch of specialists is the default, the way shooting and damage works is also different, same with scoring.

Until 40k gets rid of IGOUGO getting up and walking away from the table for 40 minutes while your opponent jerks off playing Solitaire, people will always be ass mad about Fire and Fade and Phantasm mechanics. It's unavoidable.

Outside of its original context of being elitist about playing bullet hell games, secondary has always meant someone that consumes the secondary media in a given franchise. In 40k's case a secondary would be someone that reads BL books or plays any of the video games and doesn't play the main tabletop game.
>>
>>94085860

>>
>>94085389
Chaos knights are just corrupted versions of regular knights. For example, the Knight Tyrant is just a differently colored Dominus Pattern knight. A War Dog Executioner is just an Armiger Helverin.
It's not just common, but expected, for you to buy regular knights, paint them a different color and call them something else. That's literally how you create a Despoiler.
The only exception these are the chaos-specific kits, like Karnivores and Abominants. But you can buy those independently.
An ordinary CK army is ordinarily 10-12 wardogs, sometimes substituting a few with a big knight. So you can use literally everything in that box.
>>
>>94085101
Quit making me want to start Admech you slut.
>>
>>94085915
I guess I should have been more clear, I meant an abominant because I think its one of the coolest models in all of 40k.

Im working on a chaos army, and Id love to fit in a knight and a couple dogs just for fun, not meta reasons or anything. A christmas box with them would have been the TITS.
>>
>>94085883
It's a common misconception that Games Workshop is a company that produces tabletop games. As clearly outlined in their investor statement Games Workshop is a company that produces MODELS that just so happen to be supported by various game systems.

That is to say people who play 40k are, by definition, the biggest secondaries in the consumer sphere. The, again as outlined in Games Workshop investor statement, primaries of the Warhammer 40,000 property are those who participate in "The Hobby" that is 1) Collecting 2) Building 3) Painting 4) Playing 5) Reading.

Which is to say the most PRIMARY Warhammer 40,000 is the individual with the most Games Workshop brand Warhammer 40,000 merchandise in their collection.

Even if we match the combat patrol to their own webstore prices, it would be 179 bucks for all those kits vs. 168 for the combat patrol, which isn't even a deal. Did they just decide that "fomo boxes are bad for our bottom line" or something?

A space marine should easily kill 100 fire warriors or 100 guardians, it's like a thousand guardsmen getting eaten by a daemon. Tautrannies are not in the same class. Orks are maybe a little more iffy because of their physical strength. CSM seem to give what they get back but often are using old weapons or are outright ghosts and zombies moved purely by daemon aids and seething.

>He's an eternal jobber like his older brother.
Hashut? That's the only chaos god who is kind of a jobber and falls into a similar realm as Vash'torr. But I think age of sigmar is pushing for Hashut to be a different warp god that parasites off of chaos to increase his power, rather than directly chaos.

But also
>a picture of the faces of the chaos gods
Age of sigmar sucks. I know 40k can be shallow but AoS really goes full WoW where the gods just show up right next to you and rub their hands cackling. It's really lame.
>poor little be'lakor

Anyway the reason Vash'torr will become a god in 11th or 12th edition is because of Peter Turbo. He's a daemon prince but undivided princes are supposed to be rare or non-existent. Lorgar serves all of chaos so he falls into the Be'lakor "empowered by all the gods" zone, but iron warriors are in their own tech-worshiping daemon engine zone. With people talking about Dark Mechanicus and Vash'torr it makes sense to release a Codex: Iron Warriors that puts daemons of Vash'torr, Dark Mechanicus and Iron Warriors into one neat package where Vash'torr has replaced the Machine God for dark mech and Iron Warriors suck their dicks for more daemon engines and shit.

Nothing needs to be done for Alpha Legion (since no one knows what side they are really on and alpha/omega are in a grey zone) or Blacked Legion (Abrandon isn't a daemon prince) or Night Lords (Curze is dead, or in the zone where he could somehow have survived and come back as a new guy down the road if they want).

>>94083706

This is pure cope. GW fucked up with Vashtorr because no one gives a shit about him and it is evident by the fact that GW is now desperately shilling him everywhere and showing him everywhere in an artificial attempt to make him "a thing" in 40k to get people to like him.
GW is only making the 4 main legions for both loyalists and traitors and that is it.

Vashtorr plain sucks.

the idea that they were possessed was added onto the sculpt afterwards

the thought process with the world eaters was the following
>want to update berzerkers like we did with plague marines with way more mutations and weapons variety
>but people also want conventional berserkers without the gribbles we now strap onto any chaos model
>so we will do two units: normal berserkers and bigger exalted berserkers
>the sculptors put into the exalted berserkers kit enough bits to make them either almost normal but bigger or fully mutated
>the rules writers then decided to make the two aesthetic builds two separate units to pretend the world eaters aren't coming out with an abysmally small roster (especially considering the lack of the demons and of some normal csm units, all to bump the sales of those new kits they were releasing as much as possible)
>closest thing they have that's similarly mutated is possessed

Sucks to be you. The HH is amazing unless you're a seethign xenofag.
> In general, Trazyn had not been much interested in humans. He collected them, of course, he collected everything. But he considered them on the same level as orks, or various kinds of carnivorous algae. Their spread across the cosmos had destroyed so many more interesting civilisations, and since the rise of the Emperor their culture had an utter sameness that bored him. If Trazyn cared about the mere ability to propagate and spread, he’d spend his eternity collecting bacteria. Just because a thing was successful and ubiquitous did not make it fascinating – it just made it common.
>But the Heresy changed all that. Before it was all colonisation and settlement. This, this was history, this was drama. Betrayal. Struggle. Brother fighting brother across the gulf of the stars. Empires rising and falling, heroes and rebels.
>He’d collected so much that he’d begun to worry he’d gone overboard. Especially since it hadn’t stopped. Centuries out from the Siege of Terra, and he’d continued snatching up human artefacts wherever he could. Now he not only had specimens, and spare specimens, but spares of spares.

>>
>>94087427
In the original lore for the primarchs GW stated that apart from the ones ascended to darmonhood they had all died in battle or of old age thousands of years before the setting of the game.

Then they slowly started changing "dead" to "last seen running into the webway", "was abducted by weird robed psychic midgets", or "MIA after boarding an enemy ship". They're absolutely backpedalling.

Ynnari were really fucking terrible and seemingly permanently fucked over every Eldar faction/army. Damage their story did to all Eldar cannot be overstated. Mary Sue GW tried to hype up and push for them failed miserably which is funny at least, since fanbase collectively made up a completely different personality for her and relegated her to a meme whore status known only for starring in porn. Whoever pushed her for stronk wymyn points must be seething.
But that's the point, Ynnari were so bad I can't even call them lame, I have some strong, negative feelings towards them at least. Now Arks of Omen and Lion's return were lame. Supposedly some bigger plot point and it's a complete nothingburger so far. That's lame and disappointing.

Primarchs returning. The term is overused but I would call it Marvelslop. The Imperium can have exceptional leaders sure, but unkillable superheroes are extremely lame and gay.

seconding this
in due time you'll look at this model fondly and any one of his actions in game will forever catch your attention adding to his story, he will have as much value in your collection as your latest and best creations

only thing I'd tell you to change or fix is the rim of the base so it's more uniformly and cleanly black, or whatever rim colour you're going to use for your army

I can see a way to fix this, the current Eightbound models should become a new unit named 'berserker gladitors' or something who try and be closer to Angron by fighting like the gladitors Angron and his real family were. The nails didn't work so some of the legions fractured culture has turned towards trying to ape the culture Nuceria. This also explains their partial nudity and being bigger badder WE berserkers
Eightbound/ Exalted Eightboud should get new models that make them look like mini bloodthirsters crossed with a normal berserker crossed with possessed.

No need to overcomplicate it, anon. "Eightbound" should be a reference to those marines being even more into the Eighfold Path and becoming daemonic.
Paint their flesh in red/black like bloodletters and let's forget about the retarded "possesed by 8 daemons" idea
>>
>>94088054
a way simpler solution is accepting that it's not a type of possession anywhere near close to the one normal possessed marines are under, in that case they've got a demon (most likely something above a normal lesser demon, although probably not to the rank of a herald) fully possessing their physical body, while in the eightbounds they've got 8 bloodletters chained inside their minds, with the exalted ones having wrestled enough control to channel a measure of their power into their bodies

in both cases the plastic models for the lesser demons are ass, personally I'd go tzeentch but replace most if not all horror models with recasts of 6th edition models (or prints of their scans), stuff from creature casters, some of mantic nightstalkers, and prints of tzeentch proxies from one page rules and lost kingdom miniatures

if you have to go slaanesh there's an unverified voice that slaaneshi demons might get updates with the EC wave (or perhaps with the slaaneshi tome for aos), otherwise for them I'd convert fantasy witch elves, blissbarb archers and exalted seekers to replace at least half of the demonettes and all of the cavalry models

Traiter guard regiments will just be units for a specific Chaos army at this point, like Imperial Agents. We will probably get Iron Warriors with Demon Perturabo, considering all the Perturabo content being pushed by the influencers.
>>
>>94088344
This is the perennial problem with chaos players.

If you make the armies "pure", people bitch and moan that they can't crossover their models.
If you make the codexes easily soupable, or a more broad theme everyone complains that their "insert favourite unit here" never gets used because it's out competed by "insert points efficient option here".

Not everything will be equally strong or powerful in a game. Every game, no matter how hard the creators try, will always have a meta to them.

Use your favorites and optimize within your own parameters. A lot of people don't seem to get that here. So you see tons of exchanges like:

Yeah but the problem is when the meta does not reflect the narrative/theme of your army. GW needs to try and balance things so that a combined (say) DG+NG army isn't 99% daemons and 1 cultist squad.
You can see this with Guard where a meta unit is bullgryns but many guard players don't like abhumans and don't want to run bullgryns
