DWK with their -1 damage and Stormwolf cav with invulns and insane speed let them more or less ignore that issue. Most marine datasheets are… kinda okay, but not great. The army rule is good into specific armies like knights but even then war dog spam CK should only lose to marines if the army’s pilot is totally braindead. Compared to something like Deldar’s pain dice OoM is pretty mediocre. In casual games things are still manageable but in a tourney barring impressive luck non UM codex marines have pretty mediocre characters to fall back on. SM are also disgustingly CP hungry and if you can’t generate it or get stratagems for free we just fold. Look at the Sister’s dex for comparison. They have all the same strats in their flamethrower detachment but the juicy ones are cheaper.

But plague marine weapon options are very silly anyways because they come in groups of 7 but you run them in multiples of 5. And the guns don't really matter as much as the melee weapons. So you can probably make a viable 5 plague marine unit out of the set.

>>94365494The single most important thing to learn in 40k is to give less of a shit to lesser army chaff. Your HQs should look good, but not every Termigant needs to be an art piece.
>>94365494for votann, you can easily fill up a list quickly with vehicles, bikes, thunderkyn and hearthguard. that said, between 10th editions launch and its first patch, votanns point costs dropped nearly 50% across the whole army. an army of them on the table doubled in size, in conjunction with the mass realignment of their profiles across the board as more mid to poor competence trading army rather than an elite force. tyranids are in a similar boat with units, especially their small model count specialists like lictors and biovores having some of the worst points to dollar rations in the game. you can pad out a tyranids army cheaply though with leviathan sprues and monstrous creatures which are much more efficient cash to points, especially the tyrannofex and hive tyrant. but also just in general, 40k tends to be 30-40% cheaper on points for equivalent profiles than aos. something that would be a 10ppm unit like steelhelms in aos ends up being a 6-8ppm unit in 40k like guard infantry or genestealer neohpyte hybrids.
